Convex inequalities and their applications to relative operator entropies

A considerable amount of literature in the theory of inequality is devoted to the study of Jensen's and Young's inequality. This article presents a number of new inequalities involving the log-convex functions and the geometrically convex functions. As their consequences, we derive the refinements for Young's inequality and Jensen's inequality. In addition, the operator Jensen's type inequality is also developed for conditioned two functions. Utilizing these new inequalities, we investigate the operator inequalities related to the relative operator entropy.

Improvements of the weighted Hermite-Hadamard inequality and applications to mean inequality

This paper aims to characterize the function appearing in the weighted Hermite-Hadamard inequality. We provide improved inequalities for the weighted means as applications of the obtained results. Modifications of the weighted Hermite-Hadamard inequality are also presented. Our results contain some exciting inequalities and extensions of the known results.

More results on weighted means

We give a refined Young inequality which generalizes the inequality by Zou--Jiang. We also show the upper bound for the logarithmic mean by the use of the weighted geometric mean and the weighted arithmetic mean. Furthermore, we show some inequalities among the weighted means. Based on the obtained essential scalar inequalities, we give some operator inequalities. In particular, we give a generalization of the result by Zou--Jiang, that is, we show the operator inequalities with the operator relative entropy with the weighted parameter. Finally, we give the further generalized inequalities by the Tsallis operator relative entropy.

On weighted means and their inequalities

In \cite{PSMA}, Pal et al. introduced some weighted means and gave some related inequalities by using an approach for operator monotone functions. This paper discusses the construction of these weighted means in a simple and nice setting that immediately leads to the inequalities established there. The related operator version is here immediately deduced as well. According to our constructions of the means, we study all cases of the weighted means from three weighted arithmetic/geometric/harmonic means, by the use of the concept such as stable and stabilizable means. Finally, the power symmetric means are studied and new weighted power means are given.

Some remarks on Tsallis relative operator entropy

This paper intends to give some new estimates for Tsallis relative operator entropy ${{T}_{v}}\left( A|B \right)=\frac{A{{\natural}_{v}}B-A}{v}$. Let $A$ and $B$ be two positive invertible operators with the spectra contained in the interval $J \subset (0,\infty)$. We prove for any $v\in \left[ -1,0 \right)\cup \left( 0,1 \right]$, $$ (\ln_v t)A+\left( A{{\natural}_{v}}B+tA{{\natural}_{v-1}}B \right)\le {{T}_{v}}\left( A|B \right) \le (\ln_v s)A+{{s}^{v-1}}\left( B-sA \right) $$ where $s,t\in J$. Especially, the upper bound for Tsallis relative operator entropy is a non-trivial new result. Meanwhile, some related and new results are also established. In particular, the monotonicity for Tsallis relative operator entropy is improved. Furthermore, we introduce the exponential type relative operator entropies which are special cases of the perspective and we give inequalities among them and usual relative operator entropies.

Information theoretical properties of Tsallis entropies

A chain rule and a subadditivity for the entropy of type $β$, which is one of the nonadditive entropies, were derived by Z.Daróczy. In this paper, we study the further relations among Tsallis type entropies which are typical nonadditive entropies. The chain rule is generalized by showing it for Tsallis relative entropy and the nonadditive entropy. We show some inequalities related to Tsallis entropies, especially the strong subadditivity for Tsallis type entropies and the subadditivity for the nonadditive entropies. The subadditivity and the strong subadditivity naturally lead to define Tsallis mutual entropy and Tsallis conditional mutual entropy, respectively, and then we show again chain rules for Tsallis mutual entropies. We give properties of entropic distances in terms of Tsallis entropies. Finally we show parametrically extended results based on information theory.

On some properties of Tsallis hypoentropies and hypodivergences

Both the Kullback-Leibler and the Tsallis divergence have a strong limitation: if the value $0$ appears in probability distributions $\left( p_{1},\cdots ,p_{n}\right)$ and $\left( q_{1},\cdots ,q_{n}\right)$, it must appear in the same positions for the sake of significance. In order to avoid that limitation in the framework of Shannon statistics, Ferreri introduced in 1980 the hypoentropy: "such conditions rarely occur in practice". The aim of the present paper is to extend Ferreri's hypoentropy to the Tsallis statistics. We introduce the Tsallis hypoentropy and the Tsallis hypodivergence and describe their mathematical behavior. Fundamental properties like nonnegativity, monotonicity, the chain rule and subadditivity are established.

On refined Young inequalities

In this paper, we study refinements of some inequalities related to Young inequality for scalar and for operator. As our main results, we show refined Young inequalities for two positive operators. This results refine the ordering relations among the arithmetic mean, the geometric mean and the harmonic mean. Finally, we give supplements for refined Young inequalities for two positive real numbers. And then we also give operator inequalities based on the supplemental inequalities.

Schrödinger uncertainty relation, Wigner-Yanase-Dyson skew information and metric adjusted correlation measure

In this paper, we give a Schrödinger-type uncertainty relation using the Wigner-Yanase-Dyson skew information. In addition, we give Schrödinger-type uncertainty relation by use of a two-parameter extended correlation measure. Moreover, we give the further generalization for Schrödinger-type uncertainty relation by metric adjusted correlation measure. These results generalize our previous result in [Phys. Rev. A, Vol.82(2010), 034101].

Refined Young inequalities with Specht's ratio

In this paper, we show that the $ν$-weighted arithmetic mean is greater than the product of the $ν$-weighted geometric mean and Specht's ratio. As a corollary, we also show that the $ν$-weighted geometric mean is greater than the product of the $ν$-weighted harmonic mean and Specht's ratio. These results give the improvements for the classical Young inequalities, since Specht's ratio is generally greater than 1. In addition, we give an operator inequality for positive operators, applying our refined Young inequality.

A generalized Faddeev's axiom and the uniqueness theorem for Tsallis entropy

The uniequness theorem for the Tsallis entropy by introducing the generalized Faddeev's axiom is proven. Our result improves the recent result, the uniqueness theorem for Tsallis entropy by the generalized Shannon-Khinchin's axiom in \cite{Suy}, in the sence that our axiom is simpler than his one, as similar that Faddeev's axiom is simpler than Shannon-Khinchin's one.

Characterizations of generalized entropy functions by functional equations

We shall show that a two-parameter extended entropy function is characterized by a functional equation. As a corollary of this result, we obtain that the Tsallis entropy function is characterized by a functional equation, which is a different form used in \cite{ST} i.e., in Proposition \ref{prop01} in the present paper. We also give an interpretation of the functional equation giving the Tsallis entropy function, in the relation with two non-additive properties.

On a parametrically extended entanglement-measure due to Tsallis relative entropy

In the previous paper \cite{FYK}, we mainly studied the mathematical properties of Tsallis relative entropy with respect to the density operators. As an application of it, we adopt a parametrically extended entanglement-measure due to Tsallis relative entropy in order to measure the degree of entanglement. Then we study its properies with respect to the parameter $q$ appearing in Tsallis entropies. In addition, the relation between it and the relative entropy of entanglement is studied.

On bounds of Tsallis relative entropy and an inequality for generalized skew information

Quantum entropy and skew information play important roles in quantum information science. They are defined by the trace of the positive operators so that the trace inequalities often have important roles to develop the mathematical theory in quantum information science. In this paper, we study some properties for information quantities in quantum system through trace inequalities. Especially, we give upper bounds and lower bounds of Tsallis relative entropy, which is a one-parameter extension of the relative entropy in quantum system. In addition, we compare the known bounds and the new bounds, for both upper and lower bounds, respectively. We also give an inequality for generalized skew information by introducing a generalized correlation measure.

On the maximum entropy principle and the minimization of the Fisher information in Tsallis statistics

We give a new proof of the theorems on the maximum entropy principle in Tsallis statistics. That is, we show that the $q$-canonical distribution attains the maximum value of the Tsallis entropy, subject to the constraint on the $q$-expectation value and the $q$-Gaussian distribution attains the maximum value of the Tsallis entropy, subject to the constraint on the $q$-variance, as applications of the nonnegativity of the Tsallis relative entropy, without using the Lagrange multipliers method. In addition, we define a $q$-Fisher information and then prove a $q$-Cramér-Rao inequality that the $q$-Gaussian distribution with special $q$-variances attains the minimum value of the $q$-Fisher information.

A generalized skew information and uncertainty relation

A generalized skew information is defined and a generalized uncertainty relation is established with the help of a trace inequality which was recently proven by J.I.Fujii. In addition, we prove the trace inequality conjectured by S.Luo and Z.Zhang. Finally we point out that Theorem 1 in {\it S.Luo and Q.Zhang, IEEE Trans.IT, Vol.50, pp.1778-1782 (2004)} is incorrect in general, by giving a simple counter-example.

A note on operator inequalities of Tsallis relative operator entropy

Tsallis relative operator entropy was defined as a parametric extension of relative operator entropy and the generalized Shannon inequalities were shown in the previous paper. After the review of some fundamental properties of Tsallis relative operator entropy, some operator inequalities related to Tsallis relative operator entropy are shown in the present paper. Our inequalities give the upper and lower bounds of Tsallis relative operator entropy. The operator equality on Tsallis relative operator entropy is also shown by considering the tensor product. This relation generalizes the pseudoadditivity for Tsallis entropy. As a corollary of our operator equality derived from the tensor product manipulation, we show several operator inequalities including the superadditivity and the subadditivity for Tsallis relative operator entropy. Our results are generalizations of the superadditivity and the subadditivity for Tsallis entropy.

On trace inequalities and their applications to noncommutative communication theory

Certain trace inequalities related to matrix logarithm are shown. These results enable us to give a partial answer of the open problem conjectured by A.S.Holevo. That is, concavity of the auxiliary function which appears in the random coding exponent as the lower bound of the quantum reliability function for general quantum states is proven in the case of $0\leq s\leq 1$.

On uniqueness theorems for Tsallis entropy and Tsallis relative entropy

The uniqueness theorem for Tsallis entropy was presented in {\it H.Suyari, IEEE Trans. Inform. Theory, Vol.50, pp.1783-1787 (2004)} by introducing the generalized Shannon-Khinchin's axiom. In the present paper, this result is generalized and simplified as follows: {\it Generalization}: The uniqueness theorem for Tsallis relative entropy is shown by means of the generalized Hobson's axiom. {\it Simplification}: The uniqueness theorem for Tsallis entropy is shown by means of the generalized Faddeev's axiom.
