Effect of nucleon effective mass and symmetry energy on the neutrino mean free path in a neutron star

The Korea-IBS-Daegu-SKKU energy density functional (KIDS-EDF) models, constructed from the perturbative expansion of the energy density in nuclear matter, have been successfully and widely applied in describing the properties of finite nuclei and infinite nuclear matter. In the present work, we extend the applications of the KIDS-EDF models to investigate the implications of the nucleon effective mass and nuclear symmetry energy for the properties of neutron stars (NSs) and neutrino interaction with the NS constituent matter in the linear response approximation (LRA). At fixed neutrino energy and momentum transfer, we analyze the total differential cross section of neutrino, the neutrino mean free path (NMFP), and the NS mass-radius (M-R) relations. Remarkable results are given by the KIDS0-m*87 and SLy4 models, in which $M_n^* /M \lesssim 1$, and their NMFPs are quite higher in comparison with those obtained from the KIDS0, KIDS-A, and KIDS-B models, which result in $M_n^*/M \gtrsim 1$. For the KIDS0, KIDS-A, and KIDS-B models, we obtain $λ\lesssim R_{\textrm{NS}}$, indicating that these models could predict the slow NS cooling and neutrino trapping in NSs. In contrast, the KIDS0-m*87 and SLy4 models yield $λ\gtrsim R_{\textrm{NS}}$ and thus we expect faster NS cooling and a small possibility of neutrino trapping within NSs. We also calculate the NMFP as a function of the neutrino energy and the nuclear matter density and find that the NMFP decreases as the density and neutrino energy increase, which is consistent with the result obtained in the Brussels-Montreal Skyrme (BSk17 and BSk18) models at saturation density.

Gluon and valence quark distributions for the pion and kaon in nuclear matter

In this paper we study the gluon and valence quark distributions in the pion and kaon in nuclear medium for various nuclear densities as well as in vacuum within the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model with the help of the proper-time regularization scheme which simulates a confinement of QCD. The nuclear medium effect is also determined in the same model for the symmetric nuclear matter. We then analyze the gluon and valence quark distributions for the bound pion and kaon in symmetric nuclear matter as well as those in vacuum. We find that the valence quark and gluon distributions in vacuum have relatively good agreements with the experimental data, the lattice QCD simulations, and the JAM Monte-Carlo (MC) global fit QCD analysis. Evolving to the higher factorization scale $Q = $ 4 GeV, the in-medium gluon and valence-quark distributions of the pion for various nuclear densities are turned out to be almost unchanged in comparison to the vacuum cases. On the contrary, for the kaon, they increase significantly with respect to the densities. Finally, we find that the vacuum gluon distribution for the kaon is smaller than that for the pion, which is consistent with other theoretical predictions. This feature holds for the in-medium gluon distribution in the nuclear density up to the saturation density.

The decay of $N^*$(1895) to light hyperon resonances

In this talk I review the findings of our recent works where we have studied the decay of $N^*(1895)$ and the implications of such properties on the photoproduction of light hyperons. I discuss that meson-baryon interactions play an essential role in describing the nature of $N^*(1895)$ and report the details of our investigation of its decays to different meson-baryon systems and to final states involving $Λ(1405)$ and a proposed $Σ(1400)$. We find that the width of $N^*(1895)$ gets important contributions from the decay to light hyperon resonances. Such an information can be used to look for alternative processes to study $N^*(1895)$ in experimental data.

QCD chiral condensate and pseudoscalar-meson properties in the nuclear medium at finite temperature

The pion and kaon properties in a nuclear medium at nonvanishing temperature as well as the QCD chiral condensate in the presence of a magnetic field for various baryon densities are studied in the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model with the help of the proper-time regularization (PTR) scheme, simulating a QCD confinement. The density dependent of the quark mass in symmetric nuclear matter is obtained from the quark-meson coupling (QMC) model, which shares the same covariant feature with the NJL model, at quark level. We then analyze the QCD chiral condensates, and dynamical masses for various baryon densities at finite temperature and magnetic field as well as the pion and kaon masses, pion and kaon weak-decay constants, pion-and kaon-quark coupling constants, and wave function renormalization factors for various baryon densities at finite temperature. We find that the QCD chiral condensates suppress with increasing temperature and baryon density and enhance under the presence of a magnetic field, which are consistent with other model predictions. Interestingly, the wave function renormalization factors for the pion and kaon increase with respect to temperature and reduce as the baryon density increases are found.

Investigation of electroproduction of $ϕ$ mesons off protons

We investigate $ϕ$-meson electroproduction off the proton target, i.e., $γ^* p \to ϕp$, by employing a tree-level effective Lagrangian approach in the kinematical ranges of $Q^2$ = (0$-$4) $\mathrm{GeV}^2$, $W$ = (2$-$5) GeV, and $|t| \leq 2\,\mathrm{GeV}^2$. In addition to the universally accepted Pomeron exchange, we consider various meson exchanges in the $t$ channel with the Regge method. Direct $ϕ$-meson radiations in the $s$- and $u$-channels are also taken into account. We find that the $Q^2$ dependence of the transverse ($σ_{\mathrm{T}}$) and longitudinal ($σ_{\mathrm{L}}$) cross sections are governed by Pomeron and $(a_0,f_0)$ scalar meson exchanges, respectively. Meanwhile, the contributions of $(π,η)$ pseudoscalar- and $f_1(1285)$ axial-vector-meson exchanges are much more suppressed. The results of the interference cross sections ($σ_{\mathrm{LT}}, σ_{\mathrm{LT}}$) and the spin-density matrix elements indicate that $s$-channel helicity conservation holds at $Q^2$ = (1$-$4) $\mathrm{GeV}^2$. The result of the parity asymmetry yield $P \simeq 0.95$ at $W$ = 2.5 GeV, meaning that natural-parity exchange dominates the reaction process. Our numerical results are in fair agreement with the experimental data and thus the use of our effective Reggeized model is justified over the considered kinematical ranges of $Q^2$, $W$, and $t$.

The use of the canonical approach in effective models of QCD

We clarify regions where the canonical approach works well at the finite temperature and density in the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) and Polyakov-NJL (PNJL) models. The canonical approach is a useful method for avoiding the sign problem in lattice QCD simulations at finite density, but it involves some parameters. We find that number densities computed from the canonical approach are consistent with exact values in most of the confinement phase within the parameters, which are applicable in lattice QCD.

$Ξ(1690)^-$ resonance production via $K^-p \to K^+K^-Λ$

In this talk, we investigate $Ξ(1690)^-$ production from the $K^-p\to K^+K^-Λ$ reaction wit the effective Lagrangian method and consider the $s$- and $u$-channel $Σ/Λ$ ground states and resonances for the $Ξ$-pole contributions, in addition to the $s$-channel $Λ$, $u$-channel nucleon pole, and $t$-channel $K^-$-exchange for the $ϕ$-pole contributions. The $Ξ$-pole includes $Ξ(1320)$, $Ξ(1535)$, $Ξ(1690)(J^p=1/2^-)$, and $Ξ(1820)(J^p=3/2^-)$. We compute the Dalitz plot density of $(d^2σ/dM_{K^+K^-}dM_{K^-Λ}$ at 4.2 GeV$/c$) and the total cross sections for the $K^-p\to K^+K^-Λ$. Employing the parameters from the fit, we present the cross sections for the two-body $K^-p\to K^+Ξ(1690)^-$ reaction near the threshold. We also demonstrate that the Dalitz plot analysis for $p_{K^-}=1.915 \sim2.065$ GeV/c makes us to explore direct information for $Ξ(1690)^-$ production, which can be done by future $K^-$ beam experiments.

Empirical estimate of the unpolarized dihadron fragmentation functions

We estimate the unpolarized dihadron fragmentation functions (uDiFFs) within the framework of the single-cascade jet algorithm. We first obtain the elementary fragmentation functions generating the single hadron fragmentation functions by using the single-cascade jet algorithm. These results are very close to the empirical parametrizations of the single hadron fragmentation functions which are extracted from the experimental data of the $e^+e^-$ annihiliation and semi-inclusive deeply inelastic scatterings (SIDIS). We then use those elementary fragmentation functions to generate the dihadron fragmentation functions by the help of the single-cascade jet algorithm again. The comparison between our empirical results with the results of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model and the non-local chiral quark model (NL$χ$QM) is also presented.

Pomeron, nucleon-resonance, and $(0^+,0^-,1^+)$-meson contributions in $ϕ$-meson photoproduction

We investigate the reaction mechanism of the $ϕ$-meson photoproduction off the proton target, i.e., $γp\toϕp$, up to $\sqrt{s}=2.8$ GeV. For this purpose, we employ an effective Lagrangian approach in the tree-level Born approximation, and we employ various experimental and theoretical inputs. As a theoretical setup, the vectorlike Pomeron ($C=+1$) is taken into account as a parameterized two-gluon exchange contribution. We also consider $f_1(1285)$ axial-vector-meson, ($π,η$) pseudoscalar-meson, and ($a_0,f_0$) scalar-meson exchanges in the $t$ channel, in addition to the experimentally confirmed nucleon resonances, such as $N^*(2000,5/2^+)$ and $N^*(2300,1/2^+)$, for the direct $ϕ$-meson radiations in the $s$ and $u$ channels. We provide numerical results for the total and differential cross sections as well as the spin-density matrices in the Gottfried-Jackson, Adair, and helicity frames. We observe that, together with the universally accepted pomeron contribution, the considered meson and nucleon-resonance contributions play significant roles in reproducing the experimental data for the forward and backward $ϕ$-meson scattering-angle regions, respectively, indicating the nontrivial interferences between mesonic and baryonic contributions.

Consistency check of charged hadron multiplicities and fragmentation functions in SIDIS

We derived the conditions on certain combinations of integrals of the fragmentation functions of pion using HERMES data of the sum for the charged pion multiplicities from semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering (SIDIS) off the deuteron target. In our derivation the nucleon parton distribution functions (PDFs) are assumed to be isospin SU(2) symmetric. Similar conditions have also been obtained for the fragmentation functions (FFs) of kaon by the sum of charged kaon multiplicities as well. We have chosen several FFs to study the impact of those conditions we have derived. Among those FFs, only that produced in the nonlocal chiral-quark model (NL$χ$QM) constantly satisfy the conditions. Furthermore, the ratios of the strange PDFs $S(x)$ and the nonstrange PDFs $Q(x,Q^2)$ extracted from the charged pion and kaon multiplicities differ from each other significantly. Finally, we demonstrate that the HERMES pion multiplicity data is unlikely to be compatible with the two widely-used PDFs, namely CTEQ6M and NNPDF3.0.

Photoproduction of $Λ(1405)$ with the two-pole structure

We investigate the $Λ(1405,1/2^-)\equivΛ^*$ photoproduction off the proton target, i.e. $γp\to K^+Λ^*$, considering explicitly its two-pole structure, the higher ($Λ^*_H:\,1430\,\mathrm{MeV}$) and lower ($Λ^*_L:\,1390\,\mathrm{MeV}$) mass-pole contributions, suggested by the chiral-unitary model (ChUM) approaches. For this purpose, we construct a two-body process model, which mimics the Dalitz process, $γp\to K^+πΣ$, assuming that the mass of $Λ^*$ as the invariant mass of $π$ and $Σ$, i.e. $M_{Λ^*}\sim M_{πΣ}$. We employ the effective Lagrangian method with the tree-level Born approximation, using the gauge-invariant prescription for the phenomenological form factors. We provide the numerical results for the energy and angular dependences, $π$-$Σ$ invariant-mass distribution, and so on. It turns out that the model parameters determined from ChUM reproduce the experimental data qualitatively well, supporting the two-pole structure. Moreover, the nucleon resonance contribution near the threshold plays an important role to describe the data.

Thermal conductivity of the quark matter for the SU(2) light-flavor sector

We investigate the thermal conductivity ($κ$) of the quark matter at finite quark chemical potential $(μ)$ and temperature $(T)$, employing the Green-Kubo formula, for the SU(2) light-flavor sector with the finite current-quark mass $m=5$ MeV. As a theoretical framework, we construct an effective thermodynamic potential from the $(μ,T)$-modified liquid-instanton model (mLIM). Note that all the relevant model parameters are designated as functions of $T$, using the trivial-holonomy caloron solution. By solving the self-consistent equation of mLIM, we acquire the constituent-quark mass $M_0$ as a function of $T$ and $μ$, satisfying the universal-class patterns of the chiral phase transition. From the numerical results for $κ$, we observe that there emerges a peak at $μ\approx200$ MeV for the low-$T$ region, i.e. $T\lesssim100$ MeV. As $T$ increase over $T\approx100$ MeV, the curve for $κ$ is almost saturated as a function of $T$ in the order of $\sim10^{-1}\,\mathrm{GeV}^2$, and grows with respect to $μ$ smoothly. At the normal nuclear-matter density $ρ_0=0.17\,\mathrm{fm}^{-3}$, $κ$ shows its maximum $6.22\,\mathrm{GeV}^2$ at $T\approx10$ MeV, then decreases exponentially down to $κ\approx0.2\,\mathrm{GeV}^2$. We also compute the ratio of $κ$ and the entropy density, i.e. $κ/s$ as a function of $(μ,T)$ which is a monotonically decreasing function for a wide range of $T$, then approaches a lower bound at very high $T$: $κ/s_\mathrm{min}\gtrsim0.3\,\mathrm{GeV}^{-1}$ in the vicinity of $μ=0$.

Weak $K\to π$ generalized form factors and transverse transition quark-spin density from the instanton vacuum

We investigate the generalized $K\to π$ transition vector and tensor form factors, from which we derive the transverse quark spin density in the course of the $K\toπ$ transition, based on the nonlocal chiral quark model from the instanton vacuum. The results of the transition tensor form factor are in good agreement with recent data of lattice QCD. The behavior of the transverse quark spin density of the $K\toπ$ transition turn out to be very similar to those of the pion and the kaon.

Jet-quenching parameter $\hat{q}$ in the nonperturbative region

We investigate the jet-quenching parameter $\hat{q}$ for the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) for $N_c=3$, defined nonperturbatively with the Wilson loop in the light-cone (LC) coordinate, at finite temperature $(T)$. Considering the effective static (heavy) quark-antiquark potential $V_{\bar{Q}Q}=σL+C-A/L$, where $L$ indicates the LC transverse separation between the quarks, we obtain $\hat{q}\approx8V_{\bar{Q}Q}/L^2$. The $T$ dependences for $L$ and other relevant parameters are extracted from the $T$-dependent instanton (trivial-holonomy caloron) length parameters and the lattice QCD data. By choosing $L\approx{a}\approx\barρ_T$, in which $a$ and $\barρ_T$ denote the lattice spacing and the $T$-dependent average (anti)instanton size, respectively, we acquire numerically that $\hat{q}=(5\sim25)\,\mathrm{GeV/fm}$ for $T=(0\sim0.6)$ GeV, and these values are well consistent with other estimations from AdS/CFT and experimental analyses. It turns out that $\hat{q}$ is produced almost by the Coulomb and constant potentials of $V_{\bar{Q}Q}$. We also observe that the ratio $T^3/\hat{q}$ turns into being saturated to $\sim4.45\times10^{-2}$ for $T\gtrsim0.4$ GeV, indicating the strongly-coupled QGP, and $\hat{q}$ behaves proportionally to $T^3$ for high $T$.

Electroproduction of $Λ(1520)$ off the nucleon target with the nucleon resonances

We investigate the unpolarized electroproduction of $Λ(1520)\equivΛ^*$ off the nucleon target, using the effective Lagrangian method at the tree-level Born approximation with the nucleon-resonance contributions from $S_{11}(2090)$, $D_{13}(2080)$, and $D_{15}(2200)$. First, we compute the various physical quantities for the proton target case, such as the total and differential cross sections, $t$-momentum transfer distribution, and $K^-$ decay-angle ($ϕ$) distribution. It turns out that $D_{13}$ plays an important role to reproduce the electroproduction data properly. The numerical results for the $ϕ$ distribution shows obvious different structures from that for the photoproduction, due to the enhancement of the kaon exchange by the longitudinal polarization of the virtual photon as expected. Numerically, we observe that the kaon-exchange contribution in the $t$ channel becomes about a half of that from the contact-term one that dominates the photoproduction of $Λ^*$. We also provide theoretical estimations for the $Λ^*$ electroproduction off the neutron target, showing that its production rate is saturated almost by the resonance contributions. Finally, the contact-term dominance, which is the key ingredient for the $Λ^*$ electromagnetic productions, is briefly discussed.

K*Sigma photoproduction off the proton target with baryon resonances

We investigate the photoproduction of K*0Sigma+ and K*+Sigma0 off the proton target, employing the effective Lagrangian approach at the tree-level Born approximation. In addition to the (s, t, u)-channel Born diagrams, we take into account various baryon-resonance contributions such as F15(2000), D13(2080), G17(2190), D15(2200), F35(2000), G37(2200), F37(2390), and Sigma*(1385, 3/2+) in a fully covariant manner. We present the numerical results for the energy and angular dependences for the cross sections in comparison to available experimental data. The single-polarization observables, i.e. the photon-beam, recoil and target baryon polarization asymmetries are computed as well for future experiments. We observe from the numerical results that the resonance contributions play a minor role in producing the strength of the cross sections, being different from the K*Lambda photoproduction. In contrast, it turns out that the Delta(1232)-pole contribution and strange-meson exchanges in the t-channel dominate the scattering process. On the other hand, the higher resonances influence the polarization observables such as the recoil and target asymmetries.

QCD magnetic susceptibility at finite temperature beyond the chiral limit

We investigate the QCD magnetic susceptibility chi_q for flavor SU(2) at finite temperature (T) beyond the chiral limit, using the liquid instanton model, defined in Euclidean space and modified by the T-dependent caloron solution. The background electromagnetic fields are induced to the QCD vacuum, employing the Schwinger method. We first compute the scalar (chiral) and tensor condensates as functions of T as well the current-quark mass m, signaling the correct universal chiral restoration patterns. It turns out that chi_q, given by the ratio of the two condensates, is a smoothly decreasing function of T, showing about 20% reduction of its strength at the chiral transition T = T_0, in comparison to that at T = 0, and decreases almost linearly beyond T_0 for m > 0. We observe that the present numerical results are in qualitatively good agreement with other theoretical results, including the lattice simulations. Finally, we examine the effects of the external magnetic field on the tensor-polarization VEV, resulting in that it plays the role of the chiral order parameter.

Quark-gluon mixed condensate for the SU(2) light-flavor sector at finite temperature

We investigate the quark-gluon mixed condensate <qbar sigma*G q> m^2_0 = <qbar q> for the SU(2) light-flavor sector at finite temperature (T). Relevant model parameters, such as the average (anti)instanton size, inter-(anti)instanton distance, and constituent-quark mass at zero virtuality, are modified as functions of T, employing the trivial-holonomy caloron solution. By doing that, we observe correct chiral restoration patterns depending on the current-quark mass m. We also perform the two-loop renormalization-group (RG) evolution for the both condensates by increasing the renormalization scale mu=(0.6~2.0) GeV. It turns out that the mixed condensate is insensitive to the RG evolution, whereas the quark condensate become larger considerably by the evolution. Numerically, we obtain -<qbar sigma*G q>^1/5 = (0.45 ~ 0.46) GeV at T=0 within the present theoretical framework, and the mixed condensate plays the role of the chiral order parameter for finite T. The ratio of the two condensates m^2_0 is almost flat below the chiral transition T (T_0), and increases rapidly beyond it. From a simple linear parametrization, we obtain m^2_0(T)/m^2_0(0) ~ (0.07, 0.47) T/T_0 + (1,0.6) for (T<T_0, T>T_0) at mu=0.6 GeV. The present results are compared with other theoretical ones including the lattice QCD simulations, and show qualitatively good agreement with them.

Shear viscosity of quark matter at finite temperature in magnetic fields

We have applied the Green-Kubo formula to investigate the shear viscosity in the SU(2) light-flavor quark matter at finite temperature under the external strong magnetic field e|B| ~ m^2_pi. For this purpose, we employ the temperature-modified instanton model and the Schwinger method to induce the magnetic field. The quark spectral function with the finite width motivated by the instanton model is adopted to compute the shear viscosity. We find that shear viscosity increases as temperature increases even beyond the transition temperature T_0=170 MeV if temperature-dependent (TDP) model parameters is used. On the other hand, with temperature-independent ones the shear viscosity starts to drop when temperature goes beyond T_0. Although the magnetic field reduces the shear viscosity in terms of the magnetic catalysis, its effects are almost negligible in the chiral-restored phase even for very strong magnetic field, e|B| ~ 10^20 gauss. We also compute the ratio of the shear viscosity and entropy density eta/s. Our numerical results are well compatible with other theoretical results for a wide temperature regions. We obtain the parameterization of the temperature-dependent ratio from our numerical result as eta/s=0.27-0.87/t+1.19/t^2-0.28/t^3 with t = T/T_0 for T=(100 ~ 350) MeV and e|B|=0.

Study of Baryon Resonances in the Photoproduction gamma p ---> K* Sigma(1190)

In this talk, we report the theoretical studies of baryon resonances for the gamma p ---> K*0 Sigma+ and gamma p ---> K*+ Sigma0 reaction processes by making use of the effective Lagrangian method in the tree-level Born approximation. The numerical results for the total and differential cross sections are shown with the presently available data. It turns out that the contributions from the N* and Delta* resonances are almost negligible near the threshold energy. On the other hand, the effects of the K exchange in the t channel and Delta(1232) in the s channel are considerably larger than other ones in the scattering process, being in good agreement with the experimental data.

In this talk, we report theoretical studies on the K*0 Sigma+(1190) photoproduction in the tree-level Born approximation, employing the effective Lagrangian method. We present the energy and angular dependences of the cross sections. It turns out that the N* and Delta* resonance contributions are negligible in the vicinity of the threshold. On the contrary, we observe that the kappa and K exchanges in the t channel and Delta(1232) in the s channel dominate the scattering process, reproducing the experimental data qualitatively well.

Electrical conductivity of quark matter at finite T

In this talk, I present the recent theoretical results on the electrical conductivity (EC) sigma of quark matter, using the Kubo formula at finite temperature and zero quark density (T>0, mu=0) in the presence of an external strong magnetic field. The dilute instanton-liquid model with the caloron distribution is taken into account. It turns out that sigma=(0.02~0.15)/fm for T=(0~400) MeV with the relaxation time tau=(0.3~0.9) fm. EC is parameterized as sigma/T (0.46,0.77,1.08,1.39)C_EM for tau=(0.3,0.5,0.7,0.9) fm, respectively. These results are well compatible with other theoretical estimations and show almost negligible effects from the magnetic field. The soft photon emission rate from the quark-gluon plasma is discussed as well.

Electrical conductivity of quark matter at finite T under external magnetic field

We investigate the electrical conductivity (sigma) of quark matter via the Kubo formula at finite temperature and zero quark density (T>0, mu=0) in the presence of an external strong magnetic field. For this purpose, we employ the dilute instanton-liquid model, taking into account its temperature modification with the trivial-holonomy caloron distribution. By doing that, the momentum and temperature dependences for the effective quark mass and model renormalization scale are carefully evaluated. From the numerical results, it turns out that sigma\approx(0.02 ~ 0.15)/fm for T=(0 ~ 400) MeV with the relaxation time tau=(0.3 ~ 0.9) fm. In addition, we also parameterize the electrical conductivity as sigma/T ~ (0.46,0.77,1.08,1.39)C_EM for tau=(0.3,0.5,0.7,0.9) fm, respectively. These results are well compatible with other theoretical estimations, including those from the lattice QCD simulations. It also turns out that the external magnetic field plays only a minor role for sigma even for the very strong one B_0 ~ m^2_pi*10 and becomes relatively effective for T\lesssim200 MeV. Moreover, we compute the soft photon emission rate from the quark-gluon plasma, using the electrical conductivity calculated.

Extended nonlocal chiral-quark model for the D- and B-meson weak-decay constants

In this work, we construct a phenomenological effective model for the heavy-light quark systems, which consist of (u,d,c,b) quarks, i.e. extended nonlocal chiral-quark model (ExNLChQM) to compute the heavy-meson weak-decay constants f_D and f_B. ExNLChQM is based on the heavy-quark effective field theory as well as the dilute instanton-vacuum configuration. In ExNLChQM, a certain portion of the heavy-meson mass is considered to be generated from the nontrivial QCD vacuum contribution, being similar to that for the light quarks in usual instanton approaches. Hence, the effective heavy- and light-quark masses become momentum-dependent and play the role of a smooth UV regulator. Employing a generic external-field method applied to the effective action from ExNLChQM, we obtain f_D = (169.28 ~ 234.57) MeV and f_B = (165.41 ~ 229.21) MeV from the numerical results, depending on different model parameters. These values are in relatively good agreement with experimental data and various theoretical estimations. We also discuss the heavy-quark effects on the QCD vacuum, and the decay constants f_D^* and f_B^* in terms of the heavy-quark spin symmetry.

These values are in relatively good agreement with experimental data and various theoretical estimations.

Fragmentation and quark distribution functions for the pion and kaon with explicit flavor-SU(3)-symmetry breaking

We investigate the unpolarized pion and kaon fragmentation functions, employing the nonlocal chiral-quark model, which manifests the nonlocal interactions between the quarks and pseudoscalar mesons, considering the explicit flavor-SU(3)-symmetry breaking in terms of the current-quark masses. Moreover, we study the quark-distribution functions, derived from the fragmentation ones with the Drell-Yan-Levi relation. Numerical results are evaluated to higher Q^2 by the DGLAP evolution and compared with the empirical data. The ratios between the relevant valance quark-distribution functions are also discussed. It turns out that the present results are in relatively good agreement with available data and other theoretical estimations.

Fragmentation functions and parton distribution functions for the pion with the nonlocal interactions

We study the unpolarized fragmentation functions and parton distribution functions of the pion employing the nonlocal chiral quark model. This model manifests the nonlocal interactions between the quarks and pseudoscalar mesons in the light-cone coordinate. It turns out that the nonlocal interactions result in substantial differences in comparison to typical models with only local couplings. We also perform the high Q^2-evolution for our results calculated at a relatively low renormalization scale Q^2 ~ 0.36 GeV}^2 to be compared with the experimental data. Our results after evolution are in qualitatively good agreement with those data.

Generalized form factors and spin structures of the kaon

We investigate the spin structure of the kaon, based on the nonlocal chiral quark model from the instanton vacuum. We first revisit the electromagnetic form factors of the pion and kaon, improving the results for the kaon. We evaluate the generalized tensor form factors of the kaon in order to determine the probability density of transversely polarized quarks inside the kaon. We consider the effects of flavor SU(3) symmetry breaking, so that the probability density of the up and strange quarks are examined in detail. It is found that the strange quark behaves differently inside the kaon in comparison with the up quark.

Heavy pseudoscalar-meson decay constants with strangeness from the extended nonlocal chiral-quark model

We study the weak-decay constants for the heavy pseudoscalar mesons, D, Ds, B, and Bs. For this purpose, we employ the extended nonlocal chiral-quark model (ExNLChQM), motivated by the heavy-quark effective field theory as well as the instanton-vacuum configuration. In addition to the heavy-quark symmetry and the nonlocal interactions between quarks and pseudoscalar mesons in ExNLChQM, a correction for the strange-quark content inside Ds and Bs is also taken into account and found to be crucial to reproduce the empirical values. From those numerical results, we obtain f_{D,Ds,B,Bs}=(207.53, 262.56, 208.13, 262.39) MeV, which are in good agreement with experimental data and other theoretical estimations. Using those numerical results, we compute the CKM matrix elements and the Cabibbo angle, using various mesonic and leptonic heavy-meson decay channels, resulting in (|V_{cd}|,|V_{cs}|,|V_{ub}|,|V_{td}|/|V_{ts}|)=(0.224,0.968,<5.395*10^{-3},0.215) and theta_C=12.36^o which are well compatible with available data.

Parton-distribution functions for the pion and kaon in the gauge-invariant nonlocal chiral-quark model

We investigate the parton-distribution functions (PDFs) for the positively charged pion and kaon at a low-renormalization scale ~ 1 GeV. To this end, we employ the gauge-invariant effective chiral action from the nonlocal chiral-quark model, resulting in that the vector currents are conserved. All the model parameters are determined phenomenologically with the normalization condition for PDF and the empirical values for the pseudoscalar-meson weak-decay constants. We consider the momentum dependence of the effective quark mass properly within the model calculations. It turns out that the leading local contribution provides about 70 % of the total strength for PDF, whereas the nonlocal one that is newly taken into account in this work for the gauge invariance does the rest. High-Q^2 evolution to 27 GeV^2 is performed for valance-quark distribution function (VQDF), using the DGALP equation. The moments for the pion and kaon VQDFs are also computed. The numerical results are compared with the empirical data and theoretical estimations, and show qualitatively agreement with them.

Photoproduction of K* meson off the proton target with the Regge contributions

We investigate the K* Lambda(1116) photoproduction off the proton target, employing the tree-level Born approximation within the effective Lagrangian approach. We take into account the kappa, K, and K* exchanges in the t channel in addition to the ground-state nucleon- and hyperon-pole contributions in the s and u channels with the gauge-invariant form-factor scheme. The nucleon and hyperon resonances, D_13(2080) and Sigma*(1385) are also included. We take into account the Regge trajectories of the strange-mesons for the t-channel contributions in such a way that the Feynman and Regge propagators are interpolated smoothly for the relevant photon energy region. We provide numerical results for the differential cross sections, which result in qualitatively good agreement with the presently available experimental data from CLAS collaboration at Jefferson laboratory. It turns out that the Feynman-Regge interpolation for the meson exchanges play a critical role in reproducing the data simultaneously for the low and relatively high energy regions. We also compute the total cross sections, momentum-transfer dependence of the differential cross sections in the t-channel, and the photon-beam asymmetry as useful guides for future experiments.

An effective thermodynamic potential from the instanton vacuum with the Polyakov loop

In this talk, we report our recent studies on an effective thermodynamic potential (Omega_eff) at finite temperature (T>0) and zero quark-chemical potential (mu_R=0), using the singular-gauge instanton solution and Matsubara formula for N_c=3 and N_f=2 in the chiral limit, i.e. m_q=0. The momentum-dependent constituent-quark mass is computed as a function of T, together with the Harrington-Shepard caloron solution in the large-N_c limit. In addition, we take into account the imaginary quark-chemical potential mu_I = A_4, indentified as the traced Polayakov-loop (Phi) as an order parameter for the Z(N_c) symmetry, characterizing the confinement (intact) and deconfinement (spontaneously broken) phases. As a consequence, we observe the crossover of the chiral (chi) order parameter sigma^2 and Phi. It also turns out that the critical temperature for the deconfinement phase transition, T^Z_c is lowered by about (5~10) % in comparison to the case with the constant constituent-quark mass. This behavior can be understood by considerable effects from the partial chiral restoration and nontrivial QCD vacuum on the Phi. Numerical results show that the crossover transitions occur at (T^chi_c,T^Z_c) ~ (216,227) MeV.

Charged pion photoproduction with the Delta(1232) baryon beyond the resonance region

We investigate the charged pion photoproduction off the proton target with the Delta(1232) baryon in the final state, i.e. gamma p -> pi^- Delta^++(1232) and gamma p -> pi^+ Delta^0(1232), based on the effective Lagrangian method, beyond the resonance region, E_cm >~ GeV. We employ the pi- and rho-meson Regge trajectories in the t-channel, in addition to the proton- and Delta-pole, in the s- and u-channels respectively, and the contact-interaction contributions. A specific scheme for the form factor which satisfies the Ward-Takahashi identity, crossing symmetry, and on-shell condition, is taken into account. To discuss the validity of the Regge approach within the Effective Lagrangian method, we also consider a smooth interpolation between the Regge- and Feynman-propagators for the t-channel meson exchanges as a function of sqrt(s). We present the numerical results for the energy and angular dependences of the cross sections, and double-polarization observable. It turns out that the present framework shows the significance of the pi-exchange and contact interaction terms to reproduce the experimental data qualitatively well. Especially, the interpolation between the two propagators plays a crucial role to reproduce the high-energy experimental data. The pi^+ decay-angle distribution is also studied using the Delta^++ decay frame, i.e. the Gottfried-Jackson frame. The present results will be a useful guide for future high-energy photon-beam experiments.

Chiral restoration at finite T under the magnetic field with the meson-loop corrections

We investigate the (partial) chiral restoration at finite temperature (T) under the strong external magnetic field B_0 of the SU(2) light-flavor QCD matter. To this end, we employ the instanton-liquid QCD vacuum configuration accompanied with the linear Schwinger method for inducing the magnetic field. The Harrington-Shepard caloron solution is used to modify the instanton parameters, i.e. the average instanton size (rho) and inter-instanton distance (R), as functions of T. In addition, we include the meson-loop corrections (MLC) as the large-N_c corrections because they are critical for reproducing the universal chiral restoration pattern. We present the numerical results for the constituent-quark mass as well as chiral condensate which signal the spontaneous breakdown of chiral-symmetry SBCS, as functions of T and B_0. From our results we observe that the strengths of those chiral order parameters are enhanced with respect to B_0 due to the magnetic catalysis effect. We also find that there appears a region where the u and d-quark constituent masses coincide with each other at eB_0 = (7 ~ 9) m^2_pi, even in the presence of the explicit isospin breaking. The critical T for the chiral restoration T_c tends to shift to the higher temperature in the presence of the B_0 for the chiral limit but keeps almost stationary for the physical quark mass case. We also compute the pion weak-decay constant F_pi and pion mass m_pi below T_c, varying the strength of the magnetic field, showing correct partial chiral restoration behaviors. Besides we find that the changes for the F_pi and m_pi due to the magnetic field is relatively small, in comparison to those caused by the finite T effect.

Contribution of higher nucleon resonances to K*Λ photoproduction

We investigate K*Λ(1116) photoproduction off the proton and neutron targets in the effective Lagrangian method in the tree-level Born approximation. In addition to the K, K*, and κ exchanges which are the main contributions to the reaction, we consider the contributions from the higher nucleon resonances D13(2080) and the D15(2200). We find that the D13(2080) plays a crucial role in explaining the enhancement of the near-threshold production rate, which results in a good agreement with the experimental data for the proton targets, while the contribution of the D15(2200) is rather small. A similar conclusion is drawn for K* photoproduction off the neutron targets. In addition to the energy and angular dependence of the cross sections, we present the predictions on the photon-beam asymmetry.

K*Lambda(1116) photoproduction and nucleon resonances

We study the reaction mechanism of K*Lambda(1116) photoproduction off the proton target near threshold considering the contributions from nucleon-resonances. Employing the effective Lagrangian method at the tree-level Born approximation, we investigate the role of the D13(2080) and the D15(2200). We found that the D13 plays a crucial role to reproduce the experimental data well in the forward scattering region at low energy. We also present theoretical predictions on the single photon-beam asymmetry as well as the energy and angular dependence for the cross sections of this reaction.

K*Λ(1116) photoproduction and nucleon resonances

In this presentation, we report our recent studies on the $K^*Λ(1116)$ photoproduction off the proton target, using the tree-level Born approximation, via the effective Lagrangian approach. In addition, we include the nine (three- or four-star confirmed) nucleon resonances below the threshold $\sqrt{s}_\mathrm{th}\approx2008$ MeV, to interpret the discrepancy between the experiment and previous theoretical studies, in the vicinity of the threshold region. From the numerical studies, we observe that the $S_{11}(1535)$ and $S_{11}(1650)$ play an important role for the cross-section enhancement near the $\sqrt{s}_\mathrm{th}$. It also turns out that, in order to reproduce the data, we have the vector coupling constants $g_{K^*S_{11}(1535)Λ}=(7.0\sim9.0)$ and $g_{K^*S_{11}(1650)Λ}=(5.0\sim6.0)$.

Lambda(1405,1/2^-) photoproduction from the gamma p -> K^+ Lambda(1405) reaction

We investigate the photoproduction of Lambda(1405,1/2^-) = Lambda* off the proton target using the effective Lagrangian in the Born approximation. We observed that, depending on the choice of the K* N Lambda* coupling strength, the total cross section becomes 0.1 <~ sigma_Lambda* <~ 0.2 mu b near the threshold and starts to decrease beyond E_gamma ~ 1.6 GeV, and the angular dependence shows a mild enhancement in the forward direction. It turns out that the energy dependence of the total cross section is similar to that shown in the recent LEPS experiment. This suggests that the production mechanism of the Lambda* is dominated by the s-channel contribution.

We employ the instanton-liquid QCD vacuum configuration accompanied with the linear Schwinger method for inducing the magnetic field. The Harrington-Shepard caloron solution is used to modify the instanton parameters, i.e. the average instanton size $(\barρ)$ and inter-instanton distance $(\bar{R})$, as functions of $T$. Spin structure of the pion from the instanton vacuum

We investigate the spin structure of the pion within the framework of the nonlocal chiral quark model from the instanton vacuum. We first evaluate the tensor form factors of the pion for the first and second moment (n=1,2) and compare it with the lattice data. Combining the tensor form factor of the pion with the electromagnetic one, we determine the impact-parameter dependent probability density of transversely polarized quarks inside the pion. It turns out that the present numerical results for the tensor form factor as well as those for the probability density are in good agreement with the lattice data. We also discuss the distortion of the spatial distribution of the quarks in the transverse plane inside the pion.

We derive an effective thermodynamic potential (Omega_eff) at finite temperature (T>0) and zero quark-chemical potential (mu_R=0), using the singular-gauge instanton solution and Matsubara formula for N_c=3 and N_f=2 in the chiral limit. The momentum-dependent constituent-quark mass is also obtained as a function of T, employing the Harrington-Shepard caloron solution in the large-N_c limit. In addition, we take into account the imaginary quark chemical potential mu_I = A_4, translated as the traced Polayakov-loop (Phi) as an order parameter for the Z(N_c) symmsetry, characterizing the confinement (intact) and deconfinement (spontaneously broken) phases. As a result, we observe the crossover of the chiral (chi) order parameter sigma^2 and Phi. It also turns out that the critical temperature for the deconfinment phase transition, T^Z_c is lowered by about (5-10)% in comparison to the case with a constant constituent-quark mass. This behavior can be understood by considerable effects from the partial chiral restoration and nontrivial QCD vacuum on Phi. Numerical calculations show that the crossover transitions occur at (T^chi_c,T^Z_c) ~ (216,227) MeV.

Chiral restoration at finite temperature with meson loop corrections

We investigate chiral-restoration patterns of QCD for N_{c}=3 and N_{f}=2 at finite temperature (T) and zero quark-chemical potential beyond the chiral limit, indicating the explicit chiral-symmetry breaking. To this end, we employ the instanton-vacuum configuration for the flavor SU(2) sector and the Harrington-Shepard caloron for modifying relevant instanton parameters as functions of T. The meson-loop corrections (MLC), which correspond to 1/N_{c} corrections, are also taken into account to reproduce appropriate m_{q} dependences of chiral order parameters. We compute chiral condensate as a function of T and/or m_{q}. From the numerical calculations, we observe that MLC play an important role to have a correct universality-class behavior of chiral-restoration patterns in this framework, depending on m_{q}: Second-order phase transition in the chiral limit, m_{q}=0 and crossover for m_{q}>0. Without MLC, all the restoration patterns are crossover, due to simple saddle-point approximations. It turns out that T^χ_{c}=159 MeV in the chiral limit and T^χ_{c}=(177,186,196) MeV for m_{q}=(5,10,15) MeV, using the phenomenological choices for the instanton parameters at T=0.

QCD under magnetic field: chiral magnetic effect at heavy ion collisions

In this talk, we report our recent studies for the chiral magnetic effect, which signals the P- and CP-violations at the heavy ion collisions. We compute the electric current and its correlations, induced by the external magnetic field, inside the hot and dense QCD matter created in the heavy ion collisions. For this purpose, we employ the instanton-liquid model, modified by the Harrington-Shepard caloron at finite T. We observe that the chiral magnetic effect current and its correlations increase with respect to the magnetic field, whereas they decrease as functions of T, due to the diluting instanton ensemble. It turns out that the numerical results are in good agreement with those from the model-independent analyses and lattice QCD simulations. We also reproduce the charge separations, observed in the STAR experiment, qualitatively well, considering the simplified Lienard-Wiechert potential, screening and size effects.

Vector-current correlation and charge separation via chiral-magnetic effect

We investigate the vector-current correlation Pi_{mu nu} (VCC) in the presence of a strong external magnetic field (B_0 in the z direction) at low temperature (T<T^chi_c) with C- and CP-violations, indicated by the nonzero chiral-chemical potential (mu_chi>0), i.e. the chiral-magnetic effect (CME). For this purpose, we employ the instanton-vacuum configuration at finite T with nonzero topological charge (Q_t>0). From the numerical calculations, it turns out that the longitudinal component of the connected VCC is liner in B_0 and shows a bump, representing a corresponding vector meson at |Q|=(300~400) MeV for T=0. The bump becomes enhanced as T increases and the bump position shifts to a lager |Q| value. In the limit of |Q|->0, the transverse component of the connected VCC disappears, whereas the longitudinal one remains finite and gets insensitive to B_0 with respect to T, due to diluting instanton contributions. Considering a simple collision geometry of HIC and some assumptions on the induced magnetic field and screening effect, we can estimate the charge separation (ChS) as a function of centrality using the present results for VCC. The numerical results show a qualitative agreement with experiments for the Au+Au and Cu+Cu collisions. These results are almost independent on the source of CME, instanton or sphaleron, as long as the CME current is linear in B_0.

Chiral magnetic effect at low temperature

We investigate the chiral magnetic effect (CME) under a strong magnetic field B = B_0 x_3 at low temperature T < T^chi_c. For this purpose, we employ the instanton vacuum configuration with the finite instanton-number fluctuation Delta, which relates to the nontrivial topological charge Q_t. We compute the vacuum expectation values of the local chiral density <rho_chi>, chiral charge density <n_chi> and induced electromagnetic current <j_mu>, which signal the CME, as functions of T and B_0. We observed that the longitudinal EM current is much larger than the transverse one, |j_perp/j_parallel| ~ Q_t, and the <n_chi> equals to the |<j_{3,4}>|. It also turns out that the CME becomes insensitive to the magnetic field as T increases, according to the decreasing instanton, i.e. tunneling effect. Within our framework, the instanton contribution to the CME becomes almost negligible beyond T~300 MeV.

Photoproduction of the Theta^+ and its vector and axial-vector structure

We present recent investigations on the vector and axial-vector transitions of the baryon antidecuplet within the framework of the self-consistent SU(3) chiral quark-soliton model, taking into account the 1/N_c rotational and linear m_s corrections. The main contribution to the electric-like transition form factor comes from the wave-function corrections. This is a consequence of the generalized Ademollo-Gatto theorem. It is also found that in general the leading-order contributions are almost canceled by the rotational 1/N_c corrections. The results are summarized as follows: the vector and tensor K^*-N-Theta coupling constants, g_{K^*-N-Theta}=0.74 - 0.87 and f_{K^*-N-Theta}=0.53 - 1.16, respectively, and Gamma_{Theta->KN}=0.71 MeV, based on the result of the K-N-Theta coupling constant g_{K-n-Theta}=0.83. We also show the differential cross sections and beam asymmetries, based on the present results. We also discuss the connection of present results with the original work by Diakonov, Petrov, and Polyakov.

Scalar susceptibility from the instanton vacuum with meson-loop corrections

The scalar susceptibility (chi_s) of QCD, which represents the response of the chiral condensate to a small perturbation of explicit chiral-symmetry breaking, is investigated within the nonlocal chiral quark model (NLchiQM) based on the instanton vacuum configuration for N_f = 2. We also take into account 1/N_c meson-loop (ML) corrections including scalar and pseudoscalar mesons. It turns out that the chiral condensate is modified to a large extend by the ML corrections in the vicinity of m = 0, whereas its effect becomes weak beyond m ~ 100 MeV. As numerical results, we find that chi_s = -0.34 GeV^2 with the ML corrections and 0.18 GeV^2 without it, respectively. From these observations, we conclude that the ML corrections play an important role in the presence of finite current-quark mass.

Studies on the polarization transfer coefficients C_x and C_z in the gamma p -> K^+ Lambda(1520,3/2^-) reaction process

We investigate the polarization transfer coefficients C_(x,z) for the gamma p -> K^+ Lambda(1520,3/2^-) reaction process, in which the photon is polarized circularly and the Lambda(1520,3/2^-) along the x- or z-axis. To this end, we employ the effective Lagrangian method at tree level and the gauge-invariant form factor scheme. In addition to the Born terms, (s,u,t_K,t_K^*)-channels and contact term, we include the nucleon resonance D_{13}(2080) in the s-channel. We compute the C_(x,z) as functions of theta_K as well as E_cm. It turns out that the K^*-exchange and D_{13} contributions are negligible within available experimental and theoretical inputs for them. In contrast, we observe that the contact and K-exchange contributions play dominant roles for determining the C_(x,z). Especially, the $K$-exchange enhances the transverse polarization transfer C_x considerably.

Pion electromagnetic charge radii and rho-meson mass shift at finite density

We investigate the pion electromagnetic charge radii and mass dropping of the rho meson at finite density. We first calculate the pion charge radii within the framework of the nonlocal chiral quark model from the instanton vacuum both at zero and finite densities. In order to relate the change of the pion charge radius to that of the rho-meson mass at finite density, we employ the vector-meson dominance for the pion electromagnetic form factor. It turns out that the pion charge radius is getting larger as the quark chemical potential increases. As a result, the rho-meson mass falls off as the quark chemical potential grows and is found to be dropped by about 10% at normal nuclear matter density: m*_rho/m_rho ~ 1 - 0.12 mu_B/mu_0, which is compatible to the results of the measurement at the KEK recently.

Production of the pentaquark exotic baryon Xi_5 in bar{K} N scattering : bar{K} N -> K Xi_5 and bar{K} N -> K* Xi_5

We consider both positive- and negative parities of the Xi_5. The reactions are dominated by the s- and u-channel processes, and the resulting cross sections depend very much on the parity of Xi_5 and on the type of form factor. We have seen that the cross sections for the positive-parity Xi_5 are generally about a hundred times larger than those of the negative-parity one. This large difference in the cross sections will be useful for further study of pentaquark baryons.

A new nucleon resonance in eta photoproduction

We present in this talk recent investigations on the nucleon-like resonance N*(1675) newly found in eta photoproduction by the GRAAL, Tohoku LNS-gamma and CB-ELSA collaborations. We focus on the production mechanism of the N*(1675), examining its spin and parity theoretically within the framework of the effective Lagrangian method. We expliucitly consider D_{13}(1520), S_{11}(1535), S_{11}(1650), D_{15}(1675), P_{11}(1710), P_{13}(1720) as well as possible background contributions. We calculate the differential cross sections and beam asymmetries for the neutron and proton targets. It turns out that there is manifest isospin asymmetry in eta photoproduction, which can be explained by the asymmetry in the transition magnetic moments: mu_{gamma p p*} =<mu_{gamma n n*}. Moreover, we find that the spin-1/2 state is preferred and this observation implies that the new resonance may be identified as a non-strangeness member of the baryon antidecuplet.

First, we investigate the Theta^+ production via the vec{p} vec{p} -> Sigma^+ Theta^+ reaction process which was proposed to determine unambiguously the parity of Theta^+. We observe the clear differences in the total cross sections and the spin observable A_{xx}. As for the Xi_5 in the bar{K} N -> K Xi_5 reaction process, the total cross section for the positive parity presents about one hundred times lager than that of the negative one due to the huge destructive interference.
