Local Convergence of Adaptive Gradient Descent Optimizers

Adaptive Moment Estimation (ADAM) is a very popular training algorithm for deep neural networks and belongs to the family of adaptive gradient descent optimizers. However to the best of the authors knowledge no complete convergence analysis exists for ADAM. The contribution of this paper is a method for the local convergence analysis in batch mode for a deterministic fixed training set, which gives necessary conditions for the hyperparameters of the ADAM algorithm. Due to the local nature of the arguments the objective function can be non-convex but must be at least twice continuously differentiable. Then we apply this procedure to other adaptive gradient descent algorithms and show for most of them local convergence with hyperparameter bounds.

Build-up of the Kondo effect from real-time 2PI effective action for the Anderson impurity model

The nonequilibrium time evolution of a quantum dot is studied by means of dynamic equations for time-dependent Greens functions derived from a two-particle-irreducible (2PI) effective action for the Anderson impurity model. Coupling the dot between two leads at different voltages, the dynamics of the current through the dot is investigated. We show that the 2PI approach is capable to describe the dynamical build-up of the Kondo effect, which shows up as a sharp resonance in the spectral function, with a width exponentially suppressed in the electron self coupling on the dot. An external voltage applied to the dot is found to deteriorate the Kondo effect at the hybridization scale. The dynamic equations are evaluated within different nonperturbative resummation schemes, within the direct, particle-particle, and particle-hole channels, as well as their combination, and the results compared with that from other methods.

Measuring Hidden Higgs and Strongly-Interacting Higgs Scenarios

Higgs couplings can be affected by physics beyond the Standard Model. We study modifications through interactions with a hidden sector and in specific composite Higgs models accessible at the LHC. Both scenarios give rise to congruent patterns of universal, or partially universal, shifts. In addition, Higgs decays to the hidden sector may lead to invisible decay modes which we also exploit. Experimental bounds on such potential modifications will measure the concordance of an observed Higgs boson with the Standard Model.

On a three dimensional analogue to the holomorphic z-powers

The main objective of this article is a constructive generalization of the holomorphic power and Laurent series expansions in C to dimension 3 using the framework of hypercomplex function theory. For this reason, deals the first part of this article with generalized Fourier & Taylor series expansions in the space of square integrable quaternion-valued functions which possess peculiar properties regarding the hypercomplex derivative and primitive. In analogy to the complex one-dimensional case, both series expansions are orthogonal series with respect to the unit ball in R^3 and their series coefficients can be explicitly (one-to-one) linked with each other. Furthermore, very compact and efficient representation formulae (recurrence, closed-form) for the elements of the orthogonal bases are presented. The latter results are then used to construct a new orthonormal bases of outer solid spherical monogenics in the space of square integrable quaternion-valued functions. This finally leads to the definition of a generalized Laurent series expansion for the spherical shell.
