Associated graded of Hodge modules and categorical sl_2 actions

One of the most mysterious aspects of Saito's theory of Hodge modules are the Hodge and weight filtrations that accompany the pushforward of a Hodge module under an open embedding. In this paper we consider the open embedding in a product of complementary Grassmannians given by pairs of transverse subspaces. The push-forward of the structure sheaf under this open embedding is an important Hodge module from the viewpoint of geometric representation theory and homological knot invariants. We compute the associated graded of this push-forward with respect to the induced Hodge filtration as well as the resulting weight filtration. The main tool is a categorical $\sl_2$ action on the category of $\D_h$-modules on Grassmannians. Along the way we also clarify the interaction of kernels for $\D_h$-modules with the associated graded functor. Both of these results may be of independent interest.

Derived Reid's recipe for abelian subgroups of SL3(C)

For any finite subgroup G in SL3(C), work of Bridgeland-King-Reid constructs an equivalence between the G-equivariant derived category of C^3 and the derived category of the crepant resolution Y = G-Hilb(C^3) of C^3/G. When G is abelian we show that this equivalence gives a natural correspondence between irreducible representations of G and certain sheaves on exceptional subvarieties of Y, thereby extending the McKay correspondence from two to three dimensions. This categorifies Reid's recipe and extends earlier work from [CL09] and [Log10] which dealt only with the case when C^3/G has one isolated singularity.

Implicit structure in 2-representations of quantum groups

Given a strong 2-representation of a Kac-Moody Lie algebra (in the sense of Rouquier) we show how to extend it to a 2-representation of categorified quantum groups (in the sense of Khovanov-Lauda). This involves checking certain extra 2-relations which are explicit in the definition by Khovanov-Lauda and, as it turns out, implicit in Rouquier's definition. Some applications are also discussed.

Rigidity in higher representation theory

We describe a categorical g action, called a (g,theta) action, which is easier to check in practice. Most categorical g actions can be shown to be of this form. The main result is that a (g,theta) action carries actions of quiver Hecke algebras (KLR algebras). We discuss applications of this fact to categorical vertex operators, affine Grassmannians (or Nakajima quiver varieties) and to homological knot invariants.

Vertex operators and 2-representations of quantum affine algebras

We construct 2-representations of quantum affine algebras from 2-representations of quantum Heisenberg algebras. The main tool in this construction are categorical vertex operators, which are certain complexes in a Heisenberg 2-representation that recover vertex operators after passing to the Grothendieck group. As an application we categorify the Frenkel-Kac-Segal homogeneous realization of the basic representation of (simply laced) quantum affine algebras. This gives rise to categorical actions of quantum affine (and toroidal) algebras on derived categories of coherent sheaves on Hilbert schemes of points of ALE spaces.

Webs and quantum skew Howe duality

We give a diagrammatic presentation in terms of generators mod relations of the representation category of $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_n)$. More precisely, we produce all the relations among $\rm{SL}_n$-webs, thus describing the full subcategory tensor-generated by fundamental representations $\bigwedge^k \mathbb{C}^n$ (this subcategory can be idempotent completed to recover the entire representation category). Our result answers a question posed by Kuperberg [arXiv:q-alg/9712003] and affirms conjectures of Kim [arXiv:math.QA/0310143] and Morrison [arXiv:0704.1503]. Our main tool is an application of quantum skew Howe duality.

The solvable monodromy extension property and varieties of log general type

We speculate on the relationship between the solvable monodromy extension (SME) property and log canonical models. A motivating example is the moduli space of smooth curves which, by earlier work, is known to have this SME property. In this case the maximal SME compactification is the moduli space of stable nodal curves which coincides with its log canonical model.

A derived approach to geometric McKay correspondence in dimension three

We propose a three dimensional generalization of the geometric McKay correspondence described by Gonzales-Sprinberg and Verdier in dimension two. We work it out in detail when G is abelian and C^3/G has a single isolated singularity. More precisely, we show that the Bridgeland-King-Reid derived category equivalence induces a natural geometric correspondence between irreducible representations of G and subschemes of the exceptional set of G-Hilb (C^3). This correspondence appears to be related to Reid's recipe.

Flops and about: a guide

Stratified flops show up in the birational geometry of symplectic varieties such as resolutions of nilpotent orbits and moduli spaces of sheaves. Constructing derived equivalences between varieties related by such flops is, strangely enough, related to areas in representation theory and knot homology. In this paper we discuss how to construct such equivalences, explain the main tool for doing this (categorical Lie algebra actions) and comment on various related topics.

Categorical geometric skew Howe duality

We categorify the R-matrix isomorphism between tensor products of minuscule representations of U_q(sl(n)) by constructing an equivalence between the derived categories of coherent sheaves on the corresponding convolution products in the affine Grassmannian. The main step in the construction is a categorification of representations of U_q(sl(2)) which are related to representations of U_q(sl(n)) by quantum skew Howe duality. The resulting equivalence is part of the program of algebro-geometric categorification of Reshitikhin-Turaev tangle invariants developed by the first two authors.

Knot homology via derived categories of coherent sheaves II, sl(m) case

Using derived categories of equivariant coherent sheaves we construct a knot homology theory which categorifies the quantum sl(m) knot polynomial. Our knot homology naturally satisfies the categorified MOY relations and is conjecturally isomorphic to Khovanov-Rozansky homology. Our construction is motivated by the geometric Satake correspondence and is related to Manolescu's by homological mirror symmetry.
