A Starry Byte -- proton beam measurements of single event upsets and other radiation effects in ABCStar ASIC Versions 0 and 1 for the ITk strip tracker

Single Event Effects (SEEs) - predominately bit-flips in electronics caused by particle interactions - are a major concern for ASICs operated in high radiation environments such as ABCStar ASICs, which are designed to be used in the future ATLAS ITk strip tracker. The chip design is therefore optimised to protect it from SEEs by implementing triplication techniques such as Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR). In order to verify the radiation protection mechanisms of the chip design, the cross-section for Single Event Upsets (SEUs), a particular class of SEEs, is measured by exposing the chip to high-intensity particle beams while monitoring it for observed SEUs. This study presents the setup, the performed measurements, and the results from SEU tests performed using the latest version of the ABCStar ASIC (ABCStar V1) using a 480 MeV proton beam.

Proposal for taking data with the KLOE-2 detector at the DA$Φ$NE collider upgraded in energy

This document reviews the physics program of the KLOE-2 detector at DA$Φ$NE upgraded in energy and provides a simple solution to run the collider above the $ϕ$-peak (up to 2, possibly 2.5 GeV). It is shown how a precise measurement of the multihadronic cross section in the energy region up to 2 (possibly 2.5) GeV would have a major impact on the tests of the Standard Model through a precise determination of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon and the effective fine-structure constant at the $M_Z$ scale. With a luminosity of about $10^{32}$cm$^{-2}$s$^{-1}$, DA$Φ$NE upgraded in energy can perform a scan in the region from 1 to 2.5 GeV in one year by collecting an integrated luminosity of 20 pb$^{-1}$ (corresponding to a few days of data taking) for single point, assuming an energy step of 25 MeV. A few years of data taking in this region would provide important tests of QCD and effective theories by $γγ$ physics with open thresholds for pseudo-scalar (like the $η'$), scalar ($f_0,f'_0$, etc...) and axial-vector ($a_1$, etc...) mesons; vector-mesons spectroscopy and baryon form factors; tests of CVC and searches for exotics. In the final part of the document a technical solution for the energy upgrade of DA$Φ$NE is proposed.

Test of a LYSO matrix with an electron beam

The angular coverage extension of the KLOE-2 electromagnetic calorimeter, from a polar angle of 20$^{\circ}$ down to $8^{\circ}$, will increase the multiphoton detection capability of the experiment enhancing the search reach for rare kaon, $η$ and $η'$ prompt decay channels. The basic layout of the calorimeter extension consists of two small barrels of LYSO crystals readout with APD photosensors aiming to achieve a timing resolution between 300 and 500 ps for 20 MeV photons. The first test of a (5.5$\times6\times$13) cm$^3$ prototype for such a detector was carried out in april 2009 at the Beam Test Facility of Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati of INFN with an electron beam from 100 to 500 MeV. In the selected energy range, we measured a light yield of 500$÷$800 p.e./Mev, an energy resolution which can be parametrized as $0.05 \oplus 0.01/({\rm E/GeV}) \oplus 0.015/\sqrt{\rm{E/GeV}}$, a position resolution of 2.8 mm and a timing resolution of 200$÷$300 ps.
