Neutron pairing with medium polarization beyond the Landau approximation

We revisit the long-standing problem of the superfluid transition temperature $T_c$ in dilute neutron matter. It is well known that $T_c$ is strongly affected by medium polarization effects (screening) which modify the pairing interaction in the medium. We study these effects within the random-phase approximation (RPA). It turns out that the widely used Landau approximation is sufficient only at densities below about 0.002 fm$^{-3}$. At higher densities, the full RPA leads to stronger screening than the Landau approximation.

Triplet Pairing in pure neutron matter

We study the zero temperature BCS gaps for the triplet channel in pure neutron matter using Similarity Renormalization Group (SRG) evolved interactions. We use the dependence of the results on the SRG resolution scale, as a tool to analyze medium and many-body corrections. In particular, we study the effects of including the three-body interactions at leading order, which appear at N2LO in the Chiral EFT, as well as that of the first-order self-energy corrections on the zero temperature gap. In addition we also extract the transition temperature as a function of densities and verify the BCS scaling of the zero temperature gaps to the transition temperature. We observe that the self-energy effects are very crucial in order to reduce the SRG resolution scale dependence of the results, while the three-body effects at the leading order do not change the two-body resolution scale dependence. On the other hand, the results depend strongly on the three-body cut-off, emphasizing the importance of the missing higher-order three-body effects. We also observe that self-energy effects reduce the overall gap as well as shift the gap closure to lower densities.

Local Projections of Low-Momentum Potentials

Nuclear interactions evolved via renormalization group methods to lower resolution become increasingly non-local (off-diagonal in coordinate space) as they are softened. This inhibits both the development of intuition about the interactions and their use with some methods for solving the quantum many-body problem. By applying "local projections", a softened interaction can be reduced to a local effective interaction plus a non-local residual interaction. At the two-body level, a local projection after similarity renormalization group (SRG) evolution manifests the elimination of short-range repulsive cores and the flow toward universal low-momentum interactions. The SRG residual interaction is found to be relatively weak at low energy, which motivates a perturbative treatment.

Stringent constraints on the scalar K pi form factor from analyticity, unitarity and low-energy theorems

We investigate the scalar K pi form factor at low energies by the method of unitarity bounds adapted so as to include information on the phase and modulus along the elastic region of the unitarity cut. Using at input the values of the form factor at t=0 and the Callan-Treiman point, we obtain stringent constraints on the slope and curvature parameters of the Taylor expansion at the origin. Also, we predict a quite narrow range for the higher order ChPT corrections at the second Callan-Treiman point.

Theory of unitarity bounds and low energy form factors

We present a general formalism for deriving bounds on the shape parameters of the weak and electromagnetic form factors using as input correlators calculated from perturbative QCD, and exploiting analyticity and unitarity. The values resulting from the symmetries of QCD at low energies or from lattice calculations at special points inside the analyticity domain can beincluded in an exact way. We write down the general solution of the corresponding Meiman problem for an arbitrary number of interior constraints and the integral equations that allow one to include the phase of the form factor along a part of the unitarity cut. A formalism that includes the phase and some information on the modulus along a part of the cut is also given. For illustration we present constraints on the slope and curvature of the K_l3 scalar form factor and discuss our findings in some detail. The techniques are useful for checking the consistency of various inputs and for controlling the parameterizations of the form factors entering precision predictions in flavor physics.

Supersolid and solitonic phases in one-dimensional Extended Bose-Hubbard model

We report our findings on quantum phase transitions in cold bosonic atoms in a one dimensional optical lattice using the finite size density matrix renormalization group method in the framework of the extended Bose-Hubbard model. We consider wide ranges of values for the filling factors and the nearest neighbor interactions. At commensurate fillings, we obtain two different types of charge density wave phases and a Mott insulator phase. However, departure from commensurate fillings yield the exotic supersolid phase where both the crystalline and the superfluid orders coexist. In addition, we obtain signatures for solitary waves and also superfluidity.

Hecke curves and Hitchin discriminant

Let $C$ be a smooth projective curve of genus $g\geq 4$ over the complex numbers and ${\cal SU}^s_C(r,d)$ be the moduli space of stable vector bundles of rank $r$ with a fixed determinant of degree $d$. In the projectivized cotangent space at a general point $E$ of ${\cal SU}^s_C(r,d)$, there exists a distinguished hypersurface ${\cal S}_E$ consisting of cotangent vectors with singular spectral curves. In the projectivized tangent space at $E$, there exists a distinguished subvariety ${\cal C}_E$ consisting of vectors tangent to Hecke curves in ${\cal SU}^s_C(r,d)$ through $E$. Our main result establishes that the hypersurface ${\cal S}_E$ and the variety ${\cal C}_E$ are dual to each other. As an application of this duality relation, we prove that any surjective morphism ${\cal SU}^s_C(r,d) \to {\cal SU}^s_{C'}(r,d)$, where $C'$ is another curve of genus $g$, is biregular. This confirms, for ${\cal SU}^s_C(r,d)$, the general expectation that a Fano variety of Picard number 1, excepting the projective space, has no non-trivial self-morphism and that morphisms between Fano varieties of Picard number 1 are rare. The duality relation also gives simple proofs of the non-abelian Torelli theorem and the result of Kouvidakis-Pantev on the automorphisms of ${\cal SU}^s_C(r,d)$.

On vector bundles destabilized by Frobenius pull-back

Let X be an irreducible smooth projective curve of genus at least two over an algebraically closed field k of characteristic p>0. In this paper we study the natural stratification, defined using the absolute Frobenius of X, on the moduli space of vector bundles on X of suitable rank. In characteristic two we provide a complete classification of rank two semi-stable vector bundles whose Frobenius pull-back is not semi-stable. We also obtain fairly good information about the strata of the Frobenius stratification, including the irreducibility and the dimension of each non-empty Frobenius stratum. In particular we show that the locus of Frobenius destabilized bundles has dimension 3g-4 in the moduli space of semi-stable bundles of rank two. We also construct stable bundles that are destabilized by Frobenius in the following situations: characteristic p=2 and rank four, (2) characteristic p=rank=3, (3) characteristic p=rank=5 and g at least three. We also explore (in any characteristic) the connection between Frobenius destabilized bundles and (pre)-opers, this approach allows us to reinterpret some of our results in terms of pre-opers and also allows us to construct Frobenius destablised bundles from certain pre-opers (or opers). The other result we obtain is (for characteristic two): we show that the Gunning bundle descends under Frobenius when genus g is even. If g is odd, then the Gunning bundle twisted by any odd degree line bundle also descends.
