Effects of realistic tensor force on nuclear quadrupole deformation around the shore of the island of inversion

The M3Y-type semi-realistic interaction is applied to deformed nuclei for the first time. The constrained Hartree-Fock calculations assuming axial symmetry are implemented for the N=20N=20 isotones 30^{30}Ne, 32^{32}Mg, 34^{34}Si and the N=28N=28 isotones 40^{40}Mg, 42^{42}Si, 44^{44}S with the M3Y-P6 interaction. The results match the experimental data well. Effects of the realistic tensor force on the nuclear quadrupole deformation are investigated in relation to the loss of the N=20N=20 and 2828 magic numbers. The tensor force is confirmed to favor the deformation for the N=28N=28 nuclei owing to the closure of the jjjj-shell (\textit{i.e.}, n0f7/2n0f_{7/2}), while favoring the sphericity for the N=20N=20 nuclei owing to the ℓs\ell s-closure of N=20N=20.

Electromagnons in the multiferroic state of perovskite manganites with symmetric-exchange striction

We have investigated electrically-active magnetic excitations (electromagnons) in perovskite manganites with the EE-type (up-up-down-down) spin structure by terahertz spectroscopy. Eu1−x_{1-x}Yx_xMnO3_3 (0.1≤x≤\le x\le1) and Y1−y_{1-y}Luy_yMnO3_3 (0≤y≤\le y\le1) without magnetic ff-moments, which host collinear sinusoidal, AA-type, cycloidal, and EE-type spin orders, are used to examine the systematics of possible electromagnons. Three-peak structures (23, 35, 45 cm−1^{-1}) of magnetic origin show up in the EE-type phase with little composition (yy) dependence of frequencies, making a contrast with the electromagnons observed in the cycloidal-spin (x≤0.8x\le0.8) phases. One of these electromagnon is ascribed to the zone-edge magnon mode based on the calculated magnon dispersions.

Ferroelectricity induced by spin-dependent metal-ligand hybridization in Ba2_2CoGe2_2O7_7

We have investigated the variation of induced ferroelectric polarization under magnetic field with various directions and magnitudes in a staggered antiferromagnet Ba2_2CoGe2_2O7_7. While the ferroelectric polarization cannot be explained by the well-accepted spin current model nor exchange striction mechanism, we have shown that it is induced by the spin-dependent pp-dd hybridization between the transition-metal (Co) and ligand (O) via the spin-orbit interaction. On the basis of the correspondence between the direction of electric polarization and the magnetic state, we have also demonstrated the electrical control of the magnetization direction.

Raman scattering due to a one-magnon excitation process in MnV2O4{\rm MnV_2O_4}

Unconventional peak structure in the Raman spectra due to magnon excitation at low temperature is observed in spinel magnet MnV2O4{\rm MnV_2O_4}, where a noncollinear spin state is realized by geometrical frustration. We propose a new mechanism to induce such a Raman scattering process due to a one-magnon excitation of the noncollinear spin state. Novel features of the scattering such as selection rules and peak position observed experimentally in MnV2O4{\rm MnV_2O_4} can be explained quite naturally by considering the present one-magnon process. We also discuss that such one-magnon process may exist in various materials with noncollinear spin structures.
