Noncommutativity, Saez-Ballester theory and kinetic inflation

This paper presents a noncommutative (NC) version of an extended Sáez-Ballester (SB) theory. Concretely, considering the spatially flat Friedmann-Lema\^ıtre-Robertson-Walker~(FLRW) metric, we propose an appropriate dynamical deformation between the conjugate momenta and applying the Hamiltonian formalism, obtain deformed equations of motion. In our model, the NC parameter appears linearly in the deformed Poisson bracket and the equations of the NC SB cosmology. When it goes to zero, we get the corresponding commutative counterparts. Even by restricting our attention to a particular case, where there is neither an ordinary matter nor a scalar potential, we show that the effects of the noncommutativity provide interesting results: applying numerical endeavors for very small values of the NC parameter, we show that (i) at the early times of the universe, there is an inflationary phase with a graceful exit, for which the relevant nominal condition is satisfied; (ii) for the late times, there is a zero acceleration epoch. By establishing an appropriate dynamical framework, we show that the results (i) and (ii) can be obtained for many sets of the initial conditions and the parameters of the model. Finally, we indicate that, at the level of the field equations, one may find a close resemblance between our NC model and the Starobinsky inflationary model.

Noncompactified Kaluza--Klein Gravity

We present a brief description of noncompactified higher-dimensional theories from the perspective of general relativity. More concretely, the Space-Time-Matter theory, or Induced Matter theory, and the reduction procedure used to construct the modified Brans-Dicke theory and the modified Sáez-Ballester theory are briefly explained. Finally, we apply the latter to the Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) cosmological models in arbitrary dimensions and analyze the corresponding solutions.

Shape Invariant Potentials in Supersymmetric Quantum Cosmology

In this brief review, we comment on the concept of shape invariant potentials, which is an essential feature in many settings of $N=2$ supersymmetric quantum mechanics. To motivate its application within supersymmetric quantum cosmology, we present a case study to illustrate the value of this promising tool. Concretely, we take a spatially flat FRW model in the presence of a single scalar field, minimally coupled to gravity. Then, we extract the associated Schrödinger-Wheeler-DeWitt equation, allowing for a particular scope of factor ordering. Subsequently, we compute the corresponding supersymmetric partner Hamiltonians, $H_1$ and $H_2$. Moreover, we point out how the shape invariance property can be employed to bring a relation among several factor orderings choices for our Schrödinger-Wheeler-DeWitt equation. The ground state is retrieved, and the excited states easily written. Finally, the Hamiltonians, $H_1$ and $H_2$ are explicitly presented within a $N=2$ supersymmetric quantum mechanics framework.

Late time cosmic acceleration in modified Sáez-Ballester theory

We establish an extended version of the modified Sáez-Ballester (SB) scalar-tensor theory in arbitrary dimensions whose energy momentum tensor as well as potential are pure geometrical quantities. This scenario emerges by means of two scalar fields (one is present in the SB theory and the other is associated with the extra dimension) which widens the scope of the induced-matter theory. Moreover, it bears a close resemblance to the standard Sáez-Ballester scalar-tensor theory, as well as other alternative theories to general relativity, whose construction includes either a minimally or a non-minimally coupled scalar field. However, contrary to those theories, in our framework the energy momentum tensor and the scalar potential are not added by hand, but instead are dictated from the geometry. Concerning cosmological applications, our herein contribution brings a new perspective. We firstly show that the dark energy sector can be naturally retrieved within a strictly geometric perspective, and we subsequently analyze it. Moreover, our framework may provide a hint to understand the physics of lower gravity theories.

Exact Cosmological Solutions in Modified Brans-Dicke Theory

In this paper, we obtain exact cosmological vacuum solutions for an extended FLRW homogenous and isotropic Brans-Dicke (BD) universe in five dimensions for all values of the curvature index. Then, by employing the equations associated to a modified Brans-Dicke theory (MBDT) [1], we construct the physics on a four-dimensional hypersurface. We show that the induced matter obeys the equation of state of a fluid of a barotropic type. We discuss the properties of such an induced matter for some values of the equation of state parameter and analyze in detail their corresponding solutions. To illustrate the cosmological behaviors of the solutions, we contrast our solutions with those present the standard Brans-Dicke theory. We retrieve that, in MBDT scenario, it is impossible to find a physically acceptable solution associated to the negative curvature for both the dust-dominated and radiation-dominated universes. However, for a spatially flat and closed universes, we argue that our obtained solutions are more general than those associated to the standard BD theory and, moreover, they contain a few classes of solutions which have no analog in the BD cosmology. For those particular cases, we further compare the results with those extracted in the context of the induced matter theory (IMT) and general relativity (GR). Furthermore, we discuss in detail the time behaviors of the cosmological quantities and compare them with recent observational data. We find a favorable range for the deceleration parameter associated to a matter-dominated spatially flat universe (for the late times) which is compatible with recent corresponding observational results.

Non-singular Brans-Dicke collapse in deformed phase space

We study the collapse process of a homogeneous perfect fluid (in FLRW background) with a barotropic equation of state in Brans-Dicke (BD) theory in the presence of phase space deformation effects. Such a deformation is introduced as a particular type of non-commutativity between phase space coordinates. For the commutative case, it has been shown in the literature [1], that the dust collapse in BD theory leads to the formation of a spacetime singularity which is covered by an event horizon. In comparison to general relativity (GR), the authors concluded that the final state of black holes in BD theory is identical to the GR case but differs from GR during the dynamical evolution of the collapse process. However, the presence of non-commutative effects influences the dynamics of the collapse scenario and consequently a non-singular evolution is developed in the sense that a bounce emerges at a minimum radius, after which an expanding phase begins. Such a behavior is observed for positive values of the BD coupling parameter. For large positive values of the BD coupling parameter, when non-commutative effects are present, the dynamics of collapse process differs from the GR case. Finally, we show that for negative values of the BD coupling parameter, the singularity is replaced by an oscillatory bounce occurring at a finite time, with the frequency of oscillation and amplitude being damped at late times.

Gravitational Collapse of a Homogeneous Scalar Field in Deformed Phase Space

We study the gravitational collapse of a homogeneous scalar field, minimally coupled to gravity, in the presence of a particular type of dynamical deformation between the canonical momenta of the scale factor and of the scalar field. In the absence of such a deformation, a class of solutions can be found in the literature [R. Goswami and P. S. Joshi, arXiv:gr-qc/0410144], %\cite{JG04}, whereby a curvature singularity occurs at the collapse end state, which can be either hidden behind a horizon or be visible to external observers. However, when the phase-space is deformed, as implemented herein this paper, we find that the singularity may be either removed or instead, attained faster. More precisely, for negative values of the deformation parameter, we identify the emergence of a negative pressure term, which slows down the collapse so that the singularity is replaced with a bounce. In this respect, the formation of a dynamical horizon can be avoided depending on the suitable choice of the boundary surface of the star. Whereas for positive values, the pressure that originates from the deformation effects assists the collapse toward the singularity formation. In this case, since the collapse speed is unbounded, the condition on the horizon formation is always satisfied and furthermore the dynamical horizon develops earlier than when the phase-space deformations are absent. These results are obtained by means of a thoroughly numerical discussion.

Kasner Solution in Brans-Dicke Theory and its Corresponding Reduced Cosmology

We present a brief review of the modified Brans-Dicke theory (MBDT) in arbitrary dimensions, whereby the ($N+1$)-dimensional field equations reduce to the $N$-dimensional $(ND)$ configuration with sources and an effective induced scalar potential. We then investigate a generalized Bianchi type~I anisotropic cosmology in $5D$ BD theory that leads to an extended Kasner solution. By employing the original equations of MBDT, we probe the reduced Kasner cosmology on the hypersuface with proceeding the investigations for a few cosmological quantities, explaining their properties for some cosmological models.}

Modified Brans-Dicke Theory in Arbitrary Dimensions

Within an algebraic framework, used to construct the induced-matter-theory (IMT) setting, in $(D+1)$-dimensional Brans-Dicke (BD) scenario, we obtain a modified BD theory (MBDT) in $D$ dimensions. Being more specific, from the $(D+1)$-dimensional field equations, a $D$--dimensional BD theory, bearing new features, is extracted by means of a suitable dimensional reduction onto a hypersurface orthogonal to the extra dimension. In particular, the BD scalar field in such $D$-dimensional theory has a self-interacting potential, which can be suitably interpreted as produced by the extra dimension. Subsequently, as an application to cosmology, we consider an extended spatially flat FLRW geometry in a $(D+1)$-dimensional space-time. After obtaining the power-law solutions in the bulk, we proceed to construct the corresponding physics, by means of the induced MBDT procedure, on the $D$-dimensional hypersurface. We then contrast the resulted solutions (for different phases of the universe) with those usually extracted from the conventional GR and BD theories in view of current ranges for cosmological parameters. We show that the induced perfect fluid background and the induced scalar potential can be employed, within some limits, for describing different epochs of the universe. Finally, we comment on the observational viability of such a model.

Noncommutative minisuperspace, gravity-driven acceleration and kinetic inflation

In this paper, we introduce a noncommutative version of the Brans-Dicke (BD) theory and obtain the Hamiltonian equations of motion for a spatially flat Friedmann--Lema\^ıtre--Robertson--Walker universe filled with a perfect fluid. We focus on the case where the scalar potential as well as the ordinary matter sector are absent. Then, we investigate gravity-driven acceleration and kinetic inflation in this noncommutative BD cosmology. In contrast to the commutative case, in which the scale factor and BD scalar field are in a power-law form, in the noncommutative case the power-law scalar factor is multiplied by a dynamical exponential warp factor. This warp factor depends on the noncommutative parameter as well as the momentum conjugate associated to the BD scalar field. We show that the BD scalar field and the scale factor effectively depend on the noncommutative parameter. For very small values of this parameter, we obtain an appropriate inflationary solution, which can overcome problems within BD standard cosmology in a more efficient manner. Furthermore, a graceful exit from an early acceleration epoch towards a decelerating radiation epoch is provided. For late times, due to the presence of the noncommutative parameter, we obtain a zero acceleration epoch, which can be interpreted as the coarse-grained explanation.

Quantum cosmology, minimal length and holography

We study the effects of a generalized uncertainty principle on the classical and quantum cosmology of a closed Friedmann Universe whose matter content is either a dust or a radiation fluid. More concretely, assuming the existence of a minimal length, we show that the entropy will constitute a Dirac observable. In addition, 't Hooft conjecture on the cosmological holographic principle is also investigated. We describe how this holographic principle is satisfied for large values of a quantum number, $n$. This occurs when the entropy is computed in terms of the minimal area.

Anisotropic Cosmological Model in Modified Brans--Dicke Theory

It has been shown that four dimensional Brans-Dicke theory with effective matter field and self interacting potential can be achieved from vacuum 5D BD field equations, where we refer to as modified Brans-Dicke theory (MBDT). We investigate a generalized Bianchi type I anisotropic cosmology in 5D BD theory, and by employing obtained formalism, we derive induced-matter on any 4D hypersurface in context of the MBDT. We illustrate that if the usual spatial scale factors are functions of time while scale factor of extra dimension is constant, and scalar field depends on time and fifth coordinate, then in general, one will encounter inconsistencies in field equations. Then, we assume the scale factors and scalar field depend on time and extra coordinate as separated variables in power law forms. Hence, we find a few classes of solutions in 5D spacetime through which, we probe the one which leads to a generalized Kasner relations among Kasner parameters. The induced scalar potential is found to be in power law or in logarithmic form, however, for constant scaler field and even when scalar field only depends on fifth coordinate, it vanishes. The conservation law is indeed valid in this MBDT approach for derived induced energy momentum tensor (EMT). We proceed our investigations for a few cosmological quantities, where for simplicity we assume metric and scalar field are functions of time. Hence, the EMT satisfies barotropic equation of state, and the model indicates that constant mean Hubble parameter is not allowed. Thus, by appealing to variation of Hubble parameter, we assume a fixed deceleration parameter, and set evolution of quantities with respect to the fixed deceleration, BD coupling and state parameters. The WEC allows a shrinking extra dimension for decelerating expanding universe that, in the constant scalar field, evolves same as flat FRW spacetime in GR.

Horizon Problem Remediation via Deformed Phase Space

We investigate the effects of a special kind of dynamical deformation between the momenta of the scalar field of the Brans-Dicke theory and the scale factor of the FRW metric. This special choice of deformation includes linearly a deformation parameter. We trace the deformation footprints in the cosmological equations of motion when the BD coupling parameter goes to infinity. One class of the solutions gives a constant scale factor in the late time that confirms the previous result obtained via another approach in the literature. This effect can be interpreted as a quantum gravity footprint in the coarse grained explanation. The another class of the solutions removes the big bang singularity, and the accelerating expansion region has an infinite temporal range which overcomes the horizon problem. After this epoch, there is a graceful exiting by which the universe enters in the radiation dominated era.

Naked Singularity Formation In f(R) Gravity

We study the gravitational collapse of a star with barotropic equation of state $p=wρ$ in the context of $f({\mathcal R})$ theories of gravity. Utilizing the metric formalism, we rewrite the field equations as those of Brans-Dicke theory with vanishing coupling parameter. By choosing the functionality of Ricci scalar as $f({\mathcal R})=α{\mathcal R}^{m}$, we show that for an appropriate initial value of the energy density, if $α$ and $m$ satisfy certain conditions, the resulting singularity would be naked, violating the cosmic censorship conjecture. These conditions are the ratio of the mass function to the area radius of the collapsing ball, negativity of the effective pressure, and the time behavior of the Kretschmann scalar. Also, as long as parameter $α$ obeys certain conditions, the satisfaction of the weak energy condition is guaranteed by the collapsing configuration.

Quantum mechanics and geodesic deviation in the brane world

We investigate the induced geodesic deviation equations in the brane world models, in which all the matter forces except gravity are confined on the 3-brane. Also, the Newtonian limit of induced geodesic deviation equation is studied. We show that in the first Randall-Sundrum model the Bohr-Sommerfeld quantization rule is as a result of consistency between the geodesic and geodesic deviation equations. This indicates that the path of test particle is made up of integral multiples of a fundamental Compton-type unit of length $h/mc$.
