Rings with q-torsionfree canonical modules

Let A be a Noetherian local ring with canonical module K. We characterize A when K is a torsionless, reflexive, or q-torsionfree module. If A is a Cohen-Macaulay ring, H.-B. Foxby proved in 1974 that the A-module K is q-torsionfree if and only if the ring A is q-Gorenstein. With mild assumptions, we provide a generalization of Foxby's result to arbitrary Noetherian local rings admitting the canonical module. In particular, since the reflexivity of the canonical module is closely related to the ring being Gorenstein in low codimension, we also explore quasi-normal rings, introduced by W. V. Vasconcelos. We provide several examples as well.

Are Prompt-based Models Clueless?

Finetuning large pre-trained language models with a task-specific head has advanced the state-of-the-art on many natural language understanding benchmarks. However, models with a task-specific head require a lot of training data, making them susceptible to learning and exploiting dataset-specific superficial cues that do not generalize to other datasets. Prompting has reduced the data requirement by reusing the language model head and formatting the task input to match the pre-training objective. Therefore, it is expected that few-shot prompt-based models do not exploit superficial cues. This paper presents an empirical examination of whether few-shot prompt-based models also exploit superficial cues. Analyzing few-shot prompt-based models on MNLI, SNLI, HANS, and COPA has revealed that prompt-based models also exploit superficial cues. While the models perform well on instances with superficial cues, they often underperform or only marginally outperform random accuracy on instances without superficial cues.

Fractional hinge and corner charges in various crystal shapes with cubic symmetry

Higher-order topological insulators host gapless states on hinges or corners of three-dimensional crystals. Recent studies suggested that even topologically trivial insulators may exhibit fractionally quantized charges localized at hinges or corners. Although most of the previous studies focused on two-dimensional systems, in this work, we take the initial step toward the systematic understanding of hinge and corner charges in three-dimensional insulators. We consider five crystal shapes of vertex-transitive polyhedra with the cubic symmetry such as a cube, an octahedron and a cuboctahedron. We derive real-space formulas for the hinge and corner charges in terms of the electric charges associated with bulk Wyckoff positions. We find that both the hinge and corner charges can be predicted from the bulk perspective only modulo certain fractions depending on the crystal shape, because the relaxation near boundaries of the crystal may affect the fractional parts. In particular, we show that a fractionally quantized charge $1/24$ mod $1/12$ in the unit of elementary charge can appear in a crystal with a shape of a truncated cube or a truncated octahedron. We also investigate momentum-space formulas for the hinge and corner charges. It turns out that the irreducible representations of filled bands at high-symmetry momenta are not sufficient to determine the corner charge. We introduce an additional Wilson-loop invariant to resolve this issue.

Rotoinversion-symmetric bulk-hinge correspondence and its applications to higher-order Weyl semimetals

We give a bulk-hinge correspondence for higher-order topological phases protected by rotoinversion $C_{4}\mathcal{I}$ symmetry in magnetic systems. Our approach allows us to show the emergence of the chiral hinge modes only from the information of the $C_{4}\mathcal{I}$ eigenvalues at the high-symmetry points in the Brillouin zone. In addition, based on the bulk-hinge correspondence, we propose a class of higher-order Weyl semimetals (HOWSMs) being Weyl semimetals with hinge modes and Fermi-arc surface states. The HOWSM is characterized by topological invariants for three-dimensional higher-order topological insulators, and the topological invariants are determined by the $C_{4}\mathcal{I}$ symmetry eigenvalues at the high-symmetry points. This HOWSM has chiral hinge modes as a direct consequence of the three-dimensional higher-order topology in the bulk.

When is a subcategory Serre or torsionfree?

Let R be a commutative noetherian ring. Denote by mod R the category of finitely generated R-modules. In the present paper, we first provide various sufficient (and necessary) conditions for a full subcategory of mod R to be a Serre subcategory, which include several refinements of theorems of Stanley and Wang and of Takahashi with simpler proofs. Next we consider when an IKE-closed subcategory of mod R is a torsionfree class. We investigate certain modules out of which all modules of finite length can be built by taking direct summands and extensions, and then we apply it to show that the IKE-closed subcategories of mod R are torsionfree classes in the case where R is a certain numerical semigroup ring.

On the Subcategories of n-Torsionfree Modules and Related Modules

Let R be a commutative noetherian ring. Denote by mod R the category of finitely generated R-modules. In this paper, we study n-torsionfree modules in the sense of Auslander and Bridger, by comparing them with n-syzygy modules, and modules satisfying Serre's condition (S_n). We mainly investigate closedness properties of the full subcategories of mod R consisting of those modules.

Appearance of hinge states in second-order topological insulators via the cutting procedure

In recent years, second-order topological insulators have been proposed as a new class of topological insulators. Second-order topological insulators are materials with gapped bulk and surfaces, but with topologically protected gapless states at the intersection of two surfaces. These gapless states are called hinge states. In this paper, we give a general proof that any insulators with inversion symmetry and gapped surface in class A always have hinge states when the $\mathbb{Z}_{4}$ topological index $μ_{1}$ is $μ_{1}=2$. We consider a three-dimensional insulator whose boundary conditions along two directions change by changing the hopping amplitudes across the boundaries. We study behaviors of gapless states through continuously changing boundary conditions along the two directions, and reveal that the behaviors of gapless states result from the $\mathbb{Z}_{4}$ strong topological index. From this discussion, we show that gapless states inevitably appear at the hinge of a three-dimensional insulator with gapped surfaces when the strong topological index is $\mathbb{Z}_{4}=2$ and the weak topological indices are $ν_{1}=ν_{2}=ν_{3}=0$.

Maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules that are not locally free on the punctured spectrum

We say that a Cohen-Macaulay local ring has finite $\operatorname{\mathsf{CM}}_+$-representation type if there exist only finitely many isomorphism classes of indecomposable maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules that are not locally free on the punctured spectrum. In this paper, we consider finite $\operatorname{\mathsf{CM}}_+$-representation type from various points of view, relating it with several conjectures on finite/countable Cohen-Macaulay representation type. We prove in dimension one that the Gorenstein local rings of finite $\operatorname{\mathsf{CM}}_+$-representation type are exactly the local hypersurfaces of countable $\mathsf{CM}$-representation type, that is, the hypersurfaces of type $(\mathrm{A}_\infty)$ and $(\mathrm{D}_\infty)$. We also discuss the closedness and dimension of the singular locus of a Cohen-Macaulay local ring of finite $\operatorname{\mathsf{CM}}_+$-representation type.

Pressure-Induced Restoration of the Reversed Crystal-Field Splitting in $α$-Sr$_2$CrO$_4$

Motivated by an experimental finding that the successive phase transitions in $α$-Sr$_2$CrO$_4$ observed at ambient pressure ceases to exist under high pressures, we carry out the density-functional-theory-based electronic structure calculations and demonstrate that the reversal of the crystal-field splitting reported previously is restored under high pressures, so that the orbital degrees of freedom disappears, resulting in the single phase transition that divides the system into high-temperature Mott insulating and low-temperature antiferromagnetic insulating phases.

Second-order topological non-Hermitian skin effects

Higher-order topology realizes topologically robust corner modes as a manifestation of nontriviality. We theoretically propose non-Hermitian skin effects which stem from second-order topology of chiral-symmetric Hermitian systems. It is found that the skin modes are localized at the corners. We demonstrate two types of second-order topological skin effects by two-dimensional intrinsic and extrinsic second-order topology. The intrinsic second-order topological skin effect is characterized topologically by bulk inversion symmetry as well as chiral symmetry. Meanwhile, the extrinsic second-order topological skin effect occurs from the topological correspondence between the edges and corners. We show that the non-Hermitian skin modes emerge by using a relationship between second-order and conventional first-order topology.

Bulk-edge and bulk-hinge correspondence in inversion-symmetric insulators

We show that a slab of a three-dimensional inversion-symmetric higher-order topological insulator (HOTI) in class A is a 2D Chern insulator, and that in class AII is a 2D $Z_2$ topological insulator. We prove it by considering a process of cutting the three-dimensional inversion-symmetric HOTI along a plane, and study the spectral flow in the cutting process. We show that the $Z_4$ indicators, which characterize three-dimensional inversion-symmetric HOTIs in classes A and AII, are directly related to the $Z_2$ indicators for the corresponding two-dimensional slabs with inversion symmetry, i.e. the Chern number parity and the $Z_2$ topological invariant, for classes A and AII respectively. The existence of the gapless hinge states is understood from the conventional bulk-edge correspondence between the slab system and its edge states. Moreover, we also show that the spectral-flow analysis leads to another proof of the bulk-edge correspondence in one- and two-dimensional inversion-symmetric insulators.

Local rings with quasi-decomposable maximal ideal

Let $(R,\frak m)$ be a commutative noetherian local ring. In this paper, we prove that if $\frak m$ is decomposable, then for any finitely generated $R$-module $M$ of infinite projective dimension $\frak m$ is a direct summand of (a direct sum of) syzygies of $M$. Applying this result to the case where $\frak m$ is quasi-decomposable, we obtain several classfications of subcategories, including a complete classification of the thick subcategories of the singularity category of $R$.

On the ideal case of a conjecture of Huneke and Wiegand

A conjecture of Huneke and Wiegand claims that, over one-dimensional commutative Noetherian local domains, the tensor product of a finitely generated, non-free, torsion-free module with its algebraic dual always has torsion. Building on a beautiful result of Corso, Huneke, Katz and Vasconcelos, we prove that the conjecture is affirmative for a large class of ideals over arbitrary one-dimensional local domains. Furthermore we study a higher dimensional analog of the conjecture for integrally closed ideals over Noetherian rings that are not necessarily local. We also consider a related question on the conjecture and give an affirmative answer for first syzygies of maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules.

Gauge coupling unification in a classically scale invariant model

There are a lot of works within a class of classically scale invariant model, which is motivated by solving the gauge hierarchy problem. In this context, the Higgs mass vanishes at the UV scale due to the classically scale invariance, and is generated via the Coleman-Weinberg mechanism. Since the mass generation should occur not so far from the electroweak scale, we extend the standard model only around the TeV scale. We construct a model which can achieve the gauge coupling unification at the UV scale. In the same way, the model can realize the vacuum stability, smallness of active neutrino masses, baryon asymmetry of the universe, and dark matter relic abundance. The model predicts the existence vector-like fermions charged under $SU(3)_C$ with masses lower than $1\,{\rm TeV}$, and the SM singlet Majorana dark matter with mass lower than $2.6\,{\rm TeV}$.

Gorenstein modifications and $\mathbb{Q}$-Gorenstein rings

Let $R$ be a Cohen--Macaulay normal domain with a canonical module $ω_R$. It is proved that if $R$ admits a noncommutative crepant resolution (NCCR), then necessarily it is $\mathbb{Q}$-Gorenstein. Writing $S$ for a Zariski local canonical cover of $R$, then a tight relationship between the existence of noncommutative (crepant) resolutions on $R$ and $S$ is given. A weaker notion of Gorenstein modification is developed, and a similar tight relationship is given. There are three applications: non-Gorenstein quotient singularities by connected reductive groups cannot admit an NCCR, the centre of any NCCR is log-terminal, and the Auslander--Esnault classification of two-dimensional CM-finite algebras can be deduced from Buchweitz--Greuel--Schreyer.

On the ideal case of a conjecture of Auslander and Reiten

A celebrated conjecture of Auslander and Reiten claims that a finitely generated module $M$ that has no extensions with $M\oplus Λ$ over an Artin algebra $Λ$ must be projective. This conjecture is widely open in general, even for modules over commutative Noetherian local rings. Over such rings, we prove that a large class of ideals satisfy the extension condition proposed in the aforementioned conjecture of Auslander and Reiten. Along the way we obtain a new characterization of regularity in terms of the injective dimensions of certain ideals.

Perfect linkage of Cohen--Macaulay modules over Cohen--Macaulay rings

In this paper, we introduce and study the notion of linkage by perfect modules, which we call perfect linkage, for Cohen-Macaulay modules over Cohen--Macaulay local rings. We explore perfect linkage in connection with syzygies, maximal Cohen-Macaulay approximations and Yoshino-Isogawa linkage. We recover a theorem of Yoshino and Isogawa, and analyze the structure of double perfect linkage. Moreover, we establish a criterion for two Cohen-Macaulay modules of codimension one to be perfectly linked, and apply it to the classical linkage theory for ideals. We also construct various examples of linkage of modules and ideals.

Renormalization Group Improved Higgs Inflation with a Running Kinetic Term

We study a Higgs inflation model with a running kinetic term, taking account of the renormalization group evolution of relevant coupling constants. Specifically we study two types of the running kinetic Higgs inflation, where the inflaton potential is given by the quadratic or linear term potential in a frame where the Higgs field is canonically normalized. We solve the renormalization group equations at two-loop level and calculate the scalar spectral index and the tensor-to-scalar ratio. We find that, even if the renormalization group effects are included, the quadratic inflation is ruled out by the CMB observations, while the linear one is still allowed.

Singularity categories and singular equivalences for resolving subcategories

Let $\X$ be a resolving subcategory of an abelian category. In this paper we investigate the singularity category $\ds(\underline\X)=\db(\mod\underline\X)/\kb(\proj(\mod\underline\X))$ of the stable category $\underline\X$ of $\X$. We consider when the singularity category is triangle equivalent to the stable category of Gorenstein projective objects, and when the stable categories of two resolving subcategories have triangle equivalent singularity categories. Applying this to the module category of a Gorenstein ring, we characterize simple hypersurface singularities of type $(\a_1)$ as complete intersections over which the stable categories of resolving subcategories have trivial singularity categories. We also generalize several results of Yoshino on totally reflexive modules.

$ν_R$ dark matter-philic Higgs for 3.5 keV X-ray signal

We suggest a new model of 7 keV right-handed neutrino dark matter inspired by a recent observation of 3.5 keV X-ray line signal in the XMM-Newton observatory. It is difficult to derive the tiny masses with a suitable left-right mixing of the neutrino in a framework of ordinary simple type-I seesaw mechanism. We introduce a new Higgs boson, a dark matter-philic Higgs boson, in which the smallness of its vacuum expectation value can be achieved. We investigate suitable parameter regions where the observed dark matter properties are satisfied. We find that the vacuum expectation value of dark matter-philic Higgs boson should be about 0.17 GeV.

A model realizing inverse seesaw and resonant leptogenesis

We construct a model realizing the inverse seesaw mechanism. The model has two types of gauge singlet fermions in addition to right-handed neutrinos. A required Majorana mass scale (keV scale) for generating the light active neutrino mass in the conventional inverse seesaw can be naturally explained by a "seesaw" mechanism between the two singlet fermions in our model. We find that our model can decrease the magnitude of hierarchy among the mass parameters by $\mathcal{O}(10^4)$ from that in the conventional inverse seesaw model. We also show that a successful resonant leptogenesis occurs for generating the baryon asymmetry of the universe in our model. The desired mass degeneracy for the resonant leptogenesis can also be achieved by the "seesaw" between the two singlet fermions.

Annihilation of cohomology and strong generation of module categories

The cohomology annihilator of a noetherian ring that is finitely generated as a module over its center is introduced. Results are established linking the existence of non-trivial cohomology annihilators and the existence of strong generators for the category of finitely generated modules. Exploiting this link, results of Popescu and Roczen, and Wang concerning cohomology annihilators of commutative rings, and also results of Aihara and Takahashi, Keller and Van den Bergh, and Rouquier on strong finite generation of the corresponding bounded derived category, are generalized to cover excellent local rings and also rings essentially of finite type over a field.

Annihilation of cohomology, generation of modules and finiteness of derived dimension

Let $(R,\m,k)$ be a commutative noetherian local ring of Krull dimension $d$. We prove that the cohomology annihilator $\ca(R)$ of $R$ is $\m$-primary if and only if for some $n\ge0$ the $n$-th syzygies in $\mod R$ are constructed from syzygies of $k$ by taking direct sums/summands and a fixed number of extensions. These conditions yield that $R$ is an isolated singularity such that the bounded derived category $\db(R)$ and the singularity category $\ds(R)$ have finite dimension, and the converse holds when $R$ is Gorenstein. We also show that the modules locally free on the punctured spectrum are constructed from syzygies of finite length modules by taking direct sums/summands and $d$ extensions. This result is exploited to investigate several ascent and descent problems between $R$ and its completion $\widehat R$.

Blowup behavior for a degenerate elliptic sinh-Poisson equation with variable intensities

In this paper, we provide a complete blow-up picture for solution sequences to an elliptic sinh-Poisson equation with variable intensities arising in the context of the statistical mechanics description of two-dimensional turbulence, as initiated by Onsager. The vortex intensities are described in terms of a probability measure defined on the interval. Under Dirichlet boundary conditions we establish the exclusion of boundary blowup points, we show that the concentration mass does not have residual L1-terms and we determine the location of blowup points in terms of Kirchhoff's Hamiltonian. We allow the measure to be a general Borel measure, which could be "degenerate." Our main results are new for the standard sinh-Poisson equation as well.

Extension closedness of syzygies and local Gorensteinness of commutative rings

We refine a well-known theorem of Auslander and Reiten about the extension closedness of n-th syzygies over noether algebras. Applying it, we obtain the converse of a celebrated theorem of Evans and Griffith on Serre's condition (S_n) and the local Gorensteiness of a commutative ring in height less than n. This especially extends a recent result of Araya and Iima concerning a Cohen-Macaulay local ring with canonical module to an arbitrary local ring.

Gravitational effects on vanishing Higgs potential at the Planck scale

We investigate gravitational effects on the so-called multiple point criticality principle (MPCP) at the Planck scale. The MPCP requires two degenerate vacua, whose necessary conditions are expressed by vanishing Higgs quartic coupling $λ(M_{\rm Pl})=0$ and vanishing its $β$ function $β_λ(M_{\rm Pl})=0$. We discuss a case that a specific form of gravitational corrections are assumed to contribute to $β$ functions of coupling constants although it is accepted that gravitational corrections do not alter the running of the standard model (SM) couplings. To satisfy the above two boundary conditions at the Planck scale, we find that the top pole mass and the Higgs mass should be $170.8\,{\rm GeV} \lesssim M_t\lesssim 171.7\,{\rm GeV}$ and $M_h=125.7\pm0.4\,{\rm GeV}$, respectively, as well as include suitable magnitude of gravitational effects (a coefficient of gravitational contribution as $|a_λ| > 2$). In this case, however, since the Higgs quartic coupling $λ$ becomes negative below the Planck scale, two vacua are not degenerate. We find that $M_h \gtrsim 131.5\,{\rm GeV}$ with $M_t \gtrsim 174\,{\rm GeV}$ is required by the realization of the MPCP. Therefore, the MPCP at the Planck scale cannot be realized in the SM and also the SM with gravity since $M_h \gtrsim 131.5\,{\rm GeV}$ is experimentally ruled out.

Hierarchy problem, gauge coupling unification at the Planck scale, and vacuum stability

From the point of view of the gauge hierarchy problem, introducing an intermediate scale in addition to TeV scale and the Planck scale ($M_{\rm Pl} = 2.4 \times 10^{18}\,{\rm GeV}$) is unfavorable. In that way, a gauge coupling unification (GCU) is expected to be realized at $M_{\rm Pl}$. We explore possibilities of GCU at $M_{\rm Pl}$ by adding a few extra particles with TeV scale mass into the standard model (SM). When extra particles are fermions and scalars (only fermions) with the same mass, the GCU at $M_{\rm Pl}$ can (not) be realized. On the other hand, when extra fermions have different masses, the GCU can be realized around $\sqrt{8 π} M_{\rm Pl}$ without extra scalars. This simple SM extension has two advantages that a vacuum becomes stable up to $M_{\rm Pl}$ ($\sqrt{8 π} M_{\rm Pl}$) and a proton lifetime becomes much longer than an experimental bound.

Higgs inflation and Higgs portal dark matter with right-handed neutrinos

We investigate the Higgs inflation and the Higgs portal dark matter with the right-handed neutrino. The dark matter and the right-handed neutrino in the Higgs inflation play important roles in explaining the recent experimental results of the Higgs and top masses, and the cosmic microwave background by BICEP2 at the same time. This inflation model predicts $805~{\rm GeV} \lesssim m_{\rm DM} \lesssim1220~{\rm GeV}$ for the DM mass, $1.05 \times10^{14}~{\rm GeV} \lesssim M_R \lesssim 2.04 \times10^{14}~{\rm GeV}$ for the right-handed neutrino mass, and $8.42 \lesssim ξ\lesssim 12.4$ for the non-minimal coupling within $m_H=125.6 \pm 0.35~{\rm GeV}$ for the Higgs and $M_t=173.34 \pm 0.76~{\rm GeV}$ for the top masses.

Search for new physics via photon polarization of $b \rightarrow s γ$

We suggest a discriminant analysis of new physics beyond the standard model through a detection of photon polarization in a radiative B meson decay. This analysis is investigated in SUSY SU(5) GUT with right-handed neutrino and left-right symmetric models. New physics search via CP asymmetry in the same process are also evaluated in each model for comparison. We show that new physics can be found via detecting the photon polarization in a parameter space of TeV energy scale.

Security of Power Packet Dispatching Using Differential Chaos Shift Keying

This paper investigates and confirms one advantageous function of a power packet dispatching system, which has been proposed by authors' group with being apart from the conventional power distribution system. Here is focused on the function to establish the security of power packet dispatching for prohibiting not only information but also power of power packet from being stolen by attackers. For the purpose of protecting power packets, we introduce a simple encryption of power packets before sending them. Encryption scheme based on chaotic signal is one possibility for this purpose. This paper adopts the Differential Chaos Shift Keying (DCSK) scheme for the encryption, those are partial power packet encryption and whole power packet encryption.

The dimension of a subcategory of modules

Let R be a commutative noetherian local ring. As an analogue of the notion of the dimension of a triangulated category defined by Rouquier, the notion of the dimension of a subcategory of finitely generated R-modules is introduced in this paper. We found evidence that certain categories over nice singularities have small dimensions. When R is Cohen-Macaulay, under a mild assumption it is proved that finiteness of the dimension of the full subcategory consisting of maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules which are locally free on the punctured spectrum is equivalent to saying that R is an isolated singularity. As an application, the celebrated theorem of Auslander, Huneke, Leuschke and Wiegand is not only recovered but also improved. The dimensions of stable categories of maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules as triangulated categories are also investigated in the case where R is Gorenstein, and special cases of the recent results of Aihara and Takahashi, and Oppermann and Stovicek are recovered and improved. Our key technique involves a careful study of annihilators and supports of Tor, Ext and \underline{Hom} between two subcategories.

Accurate renormalization group analyses in neutrino sector

We investigate accurate renormalization group analyses in neutrino sector between $ν$-oscillation and seesaw energy scales. We consider decoupling effects of top quark and Higgs boson on the renormalization group equations of light neutrino mass matrix. Since the decoupling effects are given in the standard model scale and independent of high energy physics, our method can basically apply to any models beyond the standard model. We find that the decoupling effects of Higgs boson are negligible, while those of top quark are not. Particularly, the decoupling effects of top quark affect neutrino mass eigenvalues, which are important for analyzing predictions such as mass squared differences and neutrinoless double beta decay in an underlying theory existing at high energy scale.

Building modules from the singular locus

A finitely generated module over a commutative noetherian ring of finite Krull dimension can be built from the prime ideals in the singular locus by iteration of three procedures: taking extensions, direct summands, and cosyzygies. In 2003 Schoutens gave a bound on the number of iterations required to build any module, and in this note we determine the exact number. This building process yields a stratification of the module category, which we study in detail for local rings that have an isolated singularity.

Higgs inflation with singlet scalar dark matter and right-handed neutrino in light of BICEP2

We discuss the Higgs inflation scenario with singlet scalar dark matter and a right-handed neutrino. The singlet scalar and the right-handed neutrino play crucial roles for realizing a suitable plateau of Higgs potential with the center value of the top mass of Tevatron and LHC measurements. This Higgs inflation scenario predicts about a 1 TeV scalar dark matter and an $\mathcal{O}(10^{14})$ GeV right-handed neutrino by use of 125.6 GeV Higgs mass, 173.34 GeV top mass, and a nonminimal gravity coupling $ξ\simeq10.1$. This inflation model is consistent with the recent result of the tensor-to-scalar ratio $r=0.20_{-0.05}^{+0.07}$ by the BICEP2 Collaboration.

Planck scale boundary conditions in the standard model with singlet scalar dark matter

We investigate Planck scale boundary conditions on the Higgs sector of the standard model with a gauge singlet scalar dark matter. We will find that vanishing self-coupling and Veltman condition at the Planck scale are realized with the 126 GeV Higgs mass and top pole mass, 172 GeV $\lesssim M_t\lesssim$ 173.5 GeV, where a correct abundance of scalar dark matter is obtained with mass of 300 GeV $\lesssim m_S \lesssim$ 1 TeV. It means that the Higgs potential is flat at the Planck scale, and this situation can not be realized in the standard model with the top pole mass.

Realization of lepton masses and mixing angles from point interactions in an extra dimension

We investigate a model on an extra dimension $S^1$ where plenty of effective boundary points described by point interactions (zero-thickness branes) are arranged. After suitably selecting the conditions on these points for each type of five-dimensional fields, we realize the tiny active neutrino masses, the charged lepton mass hierarchy, and lepton mixings with a CP-violating phase, simultaneously. Not only the quark's but also the lepton's configurations are generated in a unified way with acceptable accuracy, with neither the see-saw mechanism nor symmetries in Yukawa couplings, by suitably setting the model parameters, even though their flavor structures are dissimilar each other. One remarkable point is that a complex vacuum expectation value of the five-dimensional Higgs doublet in this model becomes the common origin of the CP violation in both quark and lepton sectors. The model can be consistent with the results of the precision electroweak measurements and Large Hadron Collider experiments.

Realization of the Lepton Flavor Structure from Point Interactions

We investigate a 5d gauge theory on $S^1$ with point interactions. The point interactions describe extra boundary conditions and provide three generations, the charged lepton mass hierarchy, the lepton flavor mixing and tiny degenerated neutrino masses after choosing suitable boundary conditions and parameters. The existence of the restriction in the flavor mixing, which appears from the configuration of the extra dimension, is one of the features of this model. Tiny Yukawa couplings for the neutrinos also appears without the see-saw mechanism nor symmetries in our model. The magnitude of CP violation in the leptons can be a prediction and is consistent with the current experimental data.

Vanishing Higgs potential at the Planck scale in a singlet extension of the standard model

We discuss the realization of a vanishing effective Higgs potential at the Planck scale, which is required by the multiple-point criticality principle (MPCP), in the standard model with singlet scalar dark matter and a right-handed neutrino. We find the scalar dark matter and the right-handed neutrino play crucial roles for realization of the MPCP, where a neutrino Yukawa becomes effective above the Majorana mass of the right-handed neutrino. Once the top mass is fixed, the MPCP at the (reduced) Planck scale and the suitable dark matter relic abundance determine the dark matter mass, $m_S$, and the Majorana mass of the right-handed neutrino, $M_R$, as $8.5~(8.0)\times10^2~{\rm GeV}\leq m_S\leq1.4~(1.2)\times10^3~{\rm GeV}$ and $6.3~(5.5)\times10^{13}~{\rm GeV}\leq M_R\leq1.6~(1.2)\times10^{14}~{\rm GeV}$ within current experimental values of the Higgs and top masses. This scenario is consistent with current dark matter direct search experiments, and will be checked by future experiments such as LUX with further exposure and/or the XENON1T.

Brauer-Thrall for totally reflexive modules over local rings of higher dimension

Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian local ring. Assume that $R$ has a pair $\{x,y\}$ of exact zerodivisors such that $\dim R/(x,y)\ge2$ and all totally reflexive $R/(x)$-modules are free. We show that the first and second Brauer--Thrall type theorems hold for the category of totally reflexive $R$-modules. More precisely, we prove that, for infinitely many integers $n$, there exists an indecomposable totally reflexive $R$-module of multiplicity $n$. Moreover, if the residue field of $R$ is infinite, we prove that there exist infinitely many isomorphism classes of indecomposable totally reflexive $R$-modules of multiplicity $n$.

Charge ordering in the intermediate valence magnet YbPd

An x-ray diffraction study reveals the charge ordering structure in an intermediate valence magnet YbPd with a CsCl-structure. The valence of the Yb ions forms an incommensurate structure, characterized by the wavevector (+-0.07 +-0.07 1/2) below 130 K. At 105 K, the incommensurate structure turns into a commensurate structure, characterized by the wavevector (0 0 1/2). Based on the resonant x-ray diffraction spectra of the superlattice reflections, the valences of the Yb ions below 105 K are found to be 3+ and 2.6+. The origin of the long wavelength modulation is discussed with the aid of an Ising model having the second nearest neighbor interaction.

Constraints on neutrino mass ordering and degeneracy from Planck and neutrino-less double beta decay

We investigate constraints on neutrino mass ordering and degeneracy by considering the first cosmological result based on Planck measurements of the cosmic microwave background. It is shown that the result at 95% CL rejects a neutrino mass degeneracy larger than 85% (82.5%) for the normal (inverted) hierarchical case. We can also find some regions where the neutrino mass ordering will be able to be distinguished by combining a value of sum of the neutrino masses with an effective neutrino mass determined by neutrino-less double beta decay experiments.

Dimensions of triangulated categories with respect to subcategories

This paper introduces the concept of the dimension of a triangulated category with respect to a fixed full subcategory. For the bounded derived category of an abelian category, upper bounds of the dimension with respect to a contravariantly finite subcategory and a resolving subcategory are given. Our methods not only recover some known results on the dimensions of derived categories in the sense of Rouquier, but also apply to various commutative and non-commutative noetherian rings.

Enhancement of Higgs to diphoton decay width in non-perturbative Higgs model

We investigate a possibility if a loop diagram via Higgsino can enhance the Higgs to diphoton decay width in supersymmetric models with an extension of Higgs sector. A model with an additional non-renormalizable term of Higgs fields is firstly analyzed where the higher order term can introduce the Higgs coupling to Higgsinos as well as charged Higgs bosons. We point out that a choice of the Higgs coupling to obtain a significant size of enhancement of diphoton decay width reduces the Higgs mass and/or a size of non-renormalizable term needs to be large and a cutoff scale is around the weak scale. Another model in which the Higgsino mass term is generated by a non-perturbative instanton effect via a strong dynamics in a context of SUSY QCD is also suggested. It is shown that the sign of the Higgs coupling to fermions is opposite from perturbative models due to an operator including bosonic fields in the denominator and a constructive contribution to the diphoton decay amplitude can be easily obtained in this kind of model.

Grand Unification of Flavor Mixings

An origin of flavor mixings in quark and lepton sectors is still a mystery, and a structure of the flavor mixings in lepton sector seems completely different from that of quark sector. In this letter, we point out that the flavor mixing angles in quark and lepton sectors could be unified at a high energy scale, when neutrinos are degenerate. It means that a minimal flavor violation at a high energy scale can induce a rich variety of flavor mixings in quark and lepton sectors at a low energy scale through quantum corrections.

Huneke-Wiegand conjecture and change of rings

Let $R$ be a Cohen-Macaulay local ring of dimension one with a canonical module $\rm{K_R}$. Let $I$ be a faithful ideal of $R$. We explore the problem of when $I \otimes_RI^{\vee}$ is torsionfree, where $I^{\vee} = \operatorname{Hom_R(I, \rm{K_R})}$. We prove that if $R$ has multiplicity at most $6$, then $I$ is isomorphic to $R$ or $\rm{K_R}$ as an $R$-module, once $I\otimes_RI^{\vee}$ is torsionfree. This result is applied to monomial ideals of numerical semigroup rings. A higher dimensional assertion is also discussed.

Interplay between Charge and Magnetic Ordering in YbPd

The pressure-temperature phase diagram of an intermediate-valence compound YbPd was revealed via simultaneous ac-calorimetry and electrical resistivity measurements. Two successive structural phase transition temperatures, $T_1$ = 125 K and $T_2$ = 110 K, are found to decrease with increasing pressure. The magnetic ordering transition at $T_{\rm N} ~sim$ 1.9 K decreases monotonically up to 1.7 GPa and disappears discontinuously at $P_{\rm c} sim$ 1.9 GPa, where the structural phase transition at $T_2$ is also suppressed. At $P_{\rm c}$, enhancement of the effective mass and residual resistivity are observed. Another probable magnetic phase transition, however, is found to take place at $T_{\rm ML} sim$0.3 K and smoothly varies even when crossing $P_{\rm c}$. Structural phase transitions at ambient pressure were also studied by a single crystal X-ray diffraction measurement. Below $T_2$, a tetragonal lattice distortion with doubling of the unit cell along the c-axis is observed, and thus there are two inequivalent Yb-sites below $P_{\rm c}$. These results indicate that one Yb-site, having larger valence configuration and thus smaller Kondo temperature, orders at $T_{\rm N}$. The other phase transition at $T_{\rm ML}$ seems to couple to the crystal structure for $T_2 < T < T_1$. YbPd is a unique system exhibiting magnetic orderings in metallic charge-ordered Yb systems.

Minimal Neutrino Texture with Neutrino Mass Ratio and Cabibbo Angle

We present neutrino mass matrix textures in a minimal framework of the type-I seesaw mechanism where two right-handed Majorana neutrinos are introduced in order to reproduce experimental results of neutrino oscillations. The textures can lead to experimentally favored leptonic mixing angles described by the tri-bimaximal mixing with one additional rotation. We present minimal and next to minimal textures for the normal mass hierarchy case in a context of the texture zero. A minimal texture in the inverted hierarchy case is also constructed, which does not have any vanishing entries in a Dirac neutrino mass matrix. We also discuss some cases that model parameters in the textures are supposed to be a neutrino mass ratio and/or the Cabibbo angle. Predicted regions of mixing angles, a leptonic CP-violation parameter, and an effective mass for the neutrino-less double beta decay are presented in all textures.

Next to new minimal standard model

We suggest a minimal extension of the standard model, which can explain current experimental data of the dark matter, small neutrino masses and baryon asymmetry of the universe, inflation, and dark energy, and achieve gauge coupling unification. The gauge coupling unification can explain the charge quantization, and be realized by introducing six new fields. We investigate the vacuum stability, coupling perturbativity, and correct dark matter abundance in this model by use of current experimental data.

NNMSM Type-II and III

We suggest two types of extension of the standard model, which are the so-called next to new minimal standard model (NNMSM) type-II and -III. They can achieve gauge coupling unification as well as suitable dark matter abundance, small neutrino masses, baryon asymmetry of the universe, inflation, and dark energy. The gauge coupling unification can be realized by introducing extra two or three new fields, and could explain the charge quantization. We also show that there are regions in which the vacuum stability, coupling perturbativity, and correct dark matter abundance can be realized with current experimental data at the same time.

Non-commutative resolutions and Grothendieck groups

Let $R$ be a noetherian normal domain. We investigate when $R$ admits a faithful module whose endomorphism ring has finite global dimension. This can be viewed as a non-commutative desingularization of $\Spec(R)$. We show that the existence of such modules forces stringent conditions on the Grothendieck group of finitely generated modules over $R$. In some cases those conditions are enough to imply that $\Spec(R)$ has only rational singularities.

Renormalization group invariants in neutrino sector

We show renormalization group invariants in neutrino sector. These are found from a simple analytical discussion of Majorana mass matrix for light neutrinos. It is shown that the invariants are obtained by taking ratios among elements of the Majorana neutrino mass matrix. The invariance is independent of neutrino mass ordering and a parameterization of mixing matrix for the lepton sector. Parameters in the runnings under renormalization group equations in the neutrino sector are also analyzed.

Separate seesaw and its applications to dark matter and baryogenesis

We propose a new seesaw model in an extra-dimensional setup where only right-handed neutrinos are bulk fields. In the model, localizations of an extra-dimensional wave function and brane Majorana mass of the right-handed neutrinos can be different among each generation of the right-handed neutrinos. The setup can lead to different suppression factor dependences of effective right-handed neutrino masses and neutrino Yukawa couplings for each generation. It is shown that the resultant mass spectra of the right-handed neutrinos and neutrino Yukawa couplings are favored in models of neutrino dark matter with baryogenesis.

Stability of Leptonic Self-complementarity

We investigate a stability of leptonic self-complementarity such that sum of three mixing angles in lepton sector is 90 degrees. Renormalization group equations in a context of minimal supersymmetric standard model for the self-complementarity are analyzed. It is seen that one of Majorana phases plays an important role for the stability of self-complementarity. We find some stable solutions against quantum corrections at a low energy. An effective neutrino mass for neutrino-less double beta decay is also evaluated by the use of neutrino parameters giving rise to the stable solutions.

The radius of a subcategory of modules

We introduce a new invariant for subcategories X of finitely generated modules over a local ring R which we call the radius of X. We show that if R is a complete intersection and X is resolving, then finiteness of the radius forces X to contain only maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules. We also show that the category of maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules has finite radius when R is a Cohen-Macaulay complete local ring with perfect coefficient field. We link the radius to many well-studied notions such as the dimension of the stable category of maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules, finite/countable Cohen-Macaulay representation type and the uniform Auslander condition.

More precisely, there exists a single R-module X such that the indecomposable maximal Cohen-Macaulay R-modules not locally free on the punctured spectrum are X and its syzygy ΩX and that any other maximal Cohen-Macaulay R-module is obtained from some extension of X and ΩX.

A4 Flavor Models in Split Seesaw Mechanism

A seesaw mechanism in an extra-dimension, known as the split seesaw mechanism, provides a natural way to realize a splitting mass spectrum of right-handed neutrinos. It leads to one keV sterile neutrino as a dark matter candidate and two heavy right-handed neutrinos being responsible for leptogenesis to explain the observed baryon asymmetry of the Universe. We study models based on $A_4$ flavor symmetry in the context of the split seesaw mechanism. It is pointed out that most of known $A_4$ flavor models with three right-handed neutrinos being $A_4$ triplet suffer from a degeneracy problem for the bulk mass terms, which disturbs the split mechanism for right-handed neutrino mass spectrum. Then we construct a new $A_4$ flavor model to work in the split seesaw mechanism. In the model, the experimentally observed neutrino masses and mixing angles can be realized from both type I+II seesaw contributions. The model predicts the $μ-τ$ symmetry in the neutrino mass matrix at the leading order, resulting in the vanishing $θ_{13}$ and maximal $θ_{23}$. The flavor symmetry $A_4$ is broken via the flavon vacuum alignment which can be obtained from the orbifold compactification. The model can be consistent with all data of neutrino oscillation experiments, cosmological discussions of dark matter abundance, leptogenesis, and recent astrophysical data.

Deviations from Tri-Bimaximality and Quark-Lepton Complementarity

We study deviations from tri-bimaximality (TBM) and quark-lepton complementarity (QLC) in a model independent way. The current neutrino experimental data is well approximated by tri-bimaximal generation mixing but the QLC relations are not satisfied with each data of 1$σ$ level. This means that there exist deviations from the complementarity. The same fact for the TBM might be checked in the future neutrino experiments. We discuss such deviations from the TBM and QLC, simultaneously. A new ratio between the deviations is introduced, and some interesting points are presented. We also show predicted correlations among leptonic mixing angles at the points.

First we show profiles of vacuum expectation value of the scalar under the general boundary conditions. We also investigate Goldberger-Wise mechanism in several setups with the general boundary conditions of the bulk scalar field and find that the mechanism can work under non-zero Dirichlet boundary conditions with appropriate vacuum expectation values. Especially, we show that $SU(2)_R$ triplet Higgs in the bulk left-right symmetric model with custodial symmetry can be identified with the Goldberger-Wise scalar.

In this paper, we study the dimension of the bounded derived category of finitely generated modules over a commutative Noetherian ring. The main result of this paper asserts that it is finite over a complete local ring containing a field with perfect residue field. These magnitudes are modified $0.310\lesssim\sin^2θ_{12}\lesssim0.330$ and $0.540\lesssim\sin^2θ_{23}\lesssim0.560$ when the charged lepton mass matrix also has the cascade form.

Voltage-Selective Bi-directional Polarization and Coherent Rotation of Nuclear Spins in Quantum Dots

We proposed and demonstrated that the nuclear spins of the host lattice in GaAs double quantum dots can be strongly polarized in either of two opposite directions, parallel or antiparallel to an external magnetic field. The direction is selected simply by adjusting the dc source-drain voltage of the device. This nuclear polarization manifests itself by repeated controlled electron-nuclear spin scattering in the Pauli spin blockade state. Polarized nuclei are also controlled coherently by means of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). This work confirmed that the nuclear spins in quantum dots are indeed long-lived quantum states with a coherence time of up to 1 ms, and may be a promising resource for quantum information processing such as quantum memories for electron spin qubits.

Diagonal Kaluza-Klein expansion under brane localized potential

We clarify and study our previous observation that, under a compactification with boundaries or orbifolding, vacuum expectation value of a bulk scalar field can have different extra-dimensional wave-function profile from that of the lowest Kaluza-Klein mode of its quantum fluctuation, under presence of boundary-localized potentials which would be necessarily generated through renormalization group running. For concreteness, we analyze the Universal Extra Dimension model compactified on orbifold $S^1/Z_2$, with brane-localized Higgs potentials at the orbifold fixed points. We compute the Kaluza-Klein expansion of the Higgs and gauge bosons in an $R_ξ$-like gauge by treating the brane-localized potential as a small perturbation. We also check that the $ρ$ parameter is not altered by the brane localized potential.

Dirichlet Higgs in extra-dimension, consistent with electroweak data

We propose a simple five-dimensional extension of the Standard Model (SM) without any Higgs potential nor any extra fields. A Higgs doublet lives in the bulk of a flat line segment and its boundary condition is Dirichlet at the ends of the line, which causes the electroweak symmetry breaking without Higgs potential. The vacuum expectation value of the Higgs is induced from the Dirichlet boundary condition which is generally allowed in higher dimensional theories. The lightest physical Higgs has non-flat profile in the extra dimension even though the vacuum expectation value is flat. As a consequence, we predict a maximal top Yukawa deviation (no coupling between top and Higgs) for the Brane-Localized Fermion and a small deviation, a multiplication of 2\sqrt{2}/π\simeq0.9 to the Yukawa coupling, for the Bulk Fermion. The latter is consistent with the electroweak precision data within 90% CL for 430GeV\lesssim m_{KK}\lesssim 500GeV.

This setup gives the scalar a role as an only Gravitationally Interacting Massive Particle (GIMP), which is a candidate for dark matter.

Phenomenological Aspects of Dirichlet Higgs Model from Extra-Dimension

We study a simple five-dimensional extension of the Standard Model, compactified on a flat line segment in which there propagate Higgs and gauge bosons of the Standard Model. We impose a Dirichlet boundary condition on the Higgs field to realize its vacuum expectation value. Since a flat Nambu-Goldstone zero-mode of the bulk Higgs is eliminated by the Dirichlet boundary condition, a superposition of the Higgs Kaluza-Klein modes play the role of the Nambu-Goldstone boson except at the boundaries. We discuss phenomenology of our model at the LHC, namely the top Yukawa deviation and the production and decay of the physical Higgs field, as well as the constraints from the electroweak precision measurements.

Revisiting superparticle spectra in superconformal flavor models

We study superparticle spectra in the superconformal flavor scenario with non-universal gaugino masses. The non-universality of gaugino masses can lead to the wino-like or higgsino-like neutralino LSP. Furthermore, it is shown that the parameter space for the higgsino-like LSP includes the region where the fine-tuning problem can be improved. The degeneracy of soft scalar masses squared does not drastically change by taking ratios of gaugino masses of order one. The degeneracy of scalar masses for squarks and left-handed sleptons would be good to avoid the FCNC problem but that of right-handed slepton masses is weak. However, the overall size of right-handed slepton masses become larger when the bino becomes heavier. It is also pointed out that such region can be realized, and thus, that would be favorable to avoid the FCNC problem for soft scalar masses as well as A-terms.

Fine Tuning in General Gauge Mediation

We study the fine-tuning problem in the context of general gauge mediation. Numerical analyses toward for relaxing fine-tuning are presented. We analyse the problem in typical three cases of the messenger scale, that is, GUT ($2\times10^{16}$ GeV), intermediate ($10^{10}$ GeV), and relatively low energy ($10^6$ GeV) scales. In each messenger scale, the parameter space reducing the degree of tuning as around 10% is found. Certain ratios among gluino mass, wino mass and soft scalar masses are favorable. It is shown that the favorable region becomes narrow as the messenger scale becomes lower, and tachyonic initial conditions of stop masses at the messenger scale are favored to relax the fine-tuning problem for the relatively low energy messenger scale. Our spectra would also be important from the viewpoint of the $μ-B$ problem.

Top Yukawa Deviation in Extra Dimension

We suggest a simple one-Higgs-doublet model living in the bulk of five-dimensional spacetime compactified on $S^1/Z_2$, in which the top Yukawa coupling can be smaller than the naive standard-model expectation, i.e. the top quark mass divided by the Higgs vacuum expectation value. If we find only single Higgs particle at the LHC and also observe the top Yukawa deviation, our scenario becomes a realistic candidate beyond the standard model. The Yukawa deviation comes from the fact that the wave function profile of the free physical Higgs field can become different from that of the vacuum expectation value, due to the presence of the brane-localized Higgs potentials. In the Brane-Localized Fermion scenario, we find sizable top Yukawa deviation, which could be checked at the LHC experiment, with a dominant Higgs production channel being the $WW$ fusion. We also study the Bulk Fermion scenario with brane-localized Higgs potential, which resembles the Universal Extra Dimension model with a stable dark matter candidate. We show that both scenarios are consistent with the current electroweak precision measurements.

Classifying subcategories of modules over a commutative noetherian ring

Let R be a quotient ring of a commutative coherent regular ring by a finitely generated ideal. Hovey gave a bijection between the set of coherent subcategories of the category of finitely presented R-modules and the set of thick subcategories of the derived category of perfect R-complexes. Using this isomorphism, he proved that every coherent subcategory of finitely presented R-modules is a Serre subcategory. In this paper, it is proved that this holds whenever R is a commutative noetherian ring. This paper also yields a module version of the bijection between the set of localizing subcategories of the derived category of R-modules and the set of subsets of Spec R which was given by Neeman.
