Complex Scalar Dark Matter in G2HDM

The complex scalar dark matter (DM) candidate in the gauged two Higgs doublet model (G2HDM), stabilized by a peculiar hidden parity ($h$-parity), is studied in detail. We explore the parameter space for the DM candidate by taking into account the most recent DM constraints from various experiments, in particular, the PLANCK relic density measurement and the current DM direct detection limit from XENON1T. We separate our analysis in three possible compositions for the mixing of the complex scalar. We first constrain our parameter space with the vacuum stability and perturbative unitarity conditions for the scalar potential, LHC Higgs measurements, plus Drell-Yan and electroweak precision test constraints on the gauge sector. We find that DM dominated by composition of the inert doublet scalar is completely excluded by further combining the previous constraints with both the latest results from PLANCK and XENON1T. We also demonstrate that the remaining parameter space with two other DM compositions can be further tested by indirect detection like the future CTA gamma-ray telescope.

Dark chiral symmetry breaking and the origin of the electroweak scale

We study a classically scale-invariant model in which strong dynamics in a dark sector sets the scale of electroweak symmetry breaking. Our model is distinct from others of this type that have appeared in the recent literature. We show that the Higgs sector of the model is phenomenologically viable and that the spectrum of dark sector states includes a partially composite dark matter candidate.

Flavored axion-monodromy inflation

The hierarchy of fermion masses in the standard model may arise via the breaking of discrete gauge symmetries. The renormalizable interactions of the flavor-symmetry-breaking potential can have accidental global symmetries that are spontaneously broken, leading to pseudo-goldstone bosons that may drive inflation. We consider two-field, axion-monodromy inflation models in which the inflaton is identified with a linear combination of pseudo-goldstone bosons of the flavor sector. We show that the resulting models are nontrivially constrained by current cosmological data as well as the requirements of viable flavor model building.

A Permutation on Hybrid Natural Inflation

We analyze a model of hybrid natural inflation based on the smallest non-Abelian discrete group S_3. Leading invariant terms in the scalar potential have an accidental global symmetry that is spontaneously broken, providing a pseudo-Goldstone boson that is identified as the inflaton. The S_3 symmetry restricts both the form of the inflaton potential and the couplings of the inflaton field to the waterfall fields responsible for the end of inflation. We identify viable points in the model parameter space. Although the power in tensor modes is small in most of the parameter space of the model, we identify parameter choices that yield potentially observable values of r without super-Planckian initial values of the inflaton field.

Charged Higgs Discovery in the W plus "Dark" Vector Boson Decay Mode

In Two Higgs doublet extensions of the Standard Model, flavor-changing neutral current constraints can be addressed by introducing a U(1)' gauge symmetry, under which the Higgs doublets carry different charges. That scenario implies the presence of a H^\pm W^\mp Z' vertex at tree level. For the light "dark" Z model (Z'=Z_d) with m_{Z_d} < 10 GeV, such a coupling leads to the dominant decay mode H^\pm \to W^\pm + Z_d (for m_{H^\pm} \lsim 175 GeV), rather than the usual type I model decay H^\pm \to τ^\pm ν, for a broad range of parameters. We find that current analyses do not place significant bounds on this scenario. Over much of the parameter space considered, the decay of a pair-produced t ({\bar t}) into H^+ b (H^- {\bar b}) provides the dominant H^\pm production. Analysis of available LHC data can likely cover significant ranges of our parameters, if Z_d \to μ^+μ^- has a branching ratio of \sim 20%. If the Z_d decays mainly invisibly then probing the entire relevant parameter space would likely require additional data from future LHC runs. We briefly discuss the phenomenology for m_{H^\pm}\gsim 175 GeV.

LHC Constraints on the Lee-Wick Higgs Sector

We determine constraints on the Lee-Wick Higgs sector obtained from the full LHC Higgs boson data set. We determine the current lower bound on the heavy neutral Lee-Wick scalar, as well as projected bounds at a 14 TeV LHC with 300 and 3000 inverse femtobarns of integrated luminosity. We point out that the first sign of new physics in this model may be the observation of a deviation from standard model expectations of the lighter neutral Higgs signal strengths corresponding to production via gluon-gluon fusion and decay to either tau or $Z$ pairs. The signal strength of the latter is greater than the standard model expectation, unlike most extensions of the standard model.

The Dark Z and Charged Higgs Decay

If there is an additional U(1) symmetry under which Standard Model particles are singlets, then there can be mixing between the additional gauge boson and the hypercharge gauge boson. This can lead to a very light, but weakly coupled "dark" gauge boson, the $Z_d$, with a mass of O(1) GeV. If the $Z_d$ gets its mass entirely from a Higgs singlet, it is called a dark photon; whereas if there is a second Higgs doublet, it is called a dark Z. We look at charged Higgs boson decays in the dark Z model. If the charged Higgs mass is between 90 GeV and 170 GeV, then its dominant two-body decays are $H^+ \rightarrow τ ν $ and $H^+ \rightarrow W^+ Z_d$. The former is suppressed by the small tau mass-squared and by $1/\tan^2 β$, whereas the latter is suppressed by a loop and a small mixing. We find that for much of the allowed parameter-space $H^+ \rightarrow W^+ Z_d$ will dominate. Since $Z_d$ decays to a lepton pair much of the time, this leads (using Drell-Yan pair production) to $pp \rightarrow H^+H^- \rightarrow W^+ W^-$ plus two highly collimated "lepton jets". Current bounds on lepton jets from ATLAS come close to constraining some of parameter space, and a dedicated search using the 2012 data would substantially improve the coverage.

Classical scale-invariance, the electroweak scale and vector dark matter

We consider a classically scale-invariant extension of the standard model in which a dark, non-Abelian gauge symmetry is spontaneously broken via the Coleman-Weinberg mechanism. Higgs portal couplings between the dark and standard model sectors provide an origin for the Higgs mass squared parameter and, hence, the electroweak scale. We find that choices for model parameters exist in which the dark gauge multiplet is viable as dark matter.

Model of flavor with quaternion symmetry

We present a renormalizable fermion mass model based on the symmetry $Q_4$ that accommodates all fermion masses and mixing angles in both the quark and lepton sectors. It requires the presence of only four SU(2) doublet scalar fields transforming non trivially under the flavor symmetry and the assumption of an alignment between first and second generation Yukawa couplings. No right-handed neutrinos are present in the model and neutrino masses are generated radiatively through the introduction of two additional SU(2) singlet fields charged under both hypercharge and lepton number.

A renormalizable fermion mass model with the double tetrahedral group

We present a renormalizable model for fermion masses based solely on the double tetrahedral group T'. It does not include right handed neutrinos and majorana neutrino masses are generated radiatively. The scalar sector of the model involves three SU(2) doublets and a set of lepton number violating (charged) scalars needed to give mass to the neutrinos. In the quark sector the model leads to a Fritzsch type scenario that is consistent with all the existing data. In the lepton sector, the model leads to tribimaximal (and near tribimaximal) mixing, and an inverted mass hierarchy.
