Loss-Induced Quantum Revival

Conventional wisdom holds that quantum effects are fragile and can be destroyed by loss. Here, contrary to general belief, we show how to realize quantum revival of optical correlations at the single-photon level with the help of loss. We find that, accompanying loss-induced transparency of light in a nonlinear optical-molecule system, quantum suppression and revival of photonic correlations can be achieved. Specifically, below critical values, adding loss into the system leads to suppressions of both optical intensity and its non-classical correlations; however, by further increasing the loss beyond the critical values, quantum revival of photon blockade (PB) can emerge, resulting in loss-induced switch between single-PB and two-PB or super-Poissonian light. Our work provides a strategy to reverse the effect of loss in fully quantum regime, opening up a counterintuitive route to explore and utilize loss-tuned single-photon devices for quantum technology.

Development of readout electronics a novel beam monitoring system for ion research facility accelerator

This article presents the readout electronics of a novel beam monitoring system for ion research facility accelerator. The readout electronics are divided into Front-end Card (FEC) and Readout Control Unit (RCU). FEC uses Topmetal II minus to processes the energy of the hitting particles and convert it into a voltage signal. The main function of RCU is to digitize the analog output signal of FEC and format the raw data. On the other hand, the RCU also processes the control commands from the host and distributes the commands according to the mapping. The readout electronic has been characterized and calibrated in the laboratory, and have been installed with the detector. Implementation and testing of readout electronics have been discussed.

Ising Spins on Randomly Multi-Branched Husimi Square Lattice: Thermodynamics and Phase Transition in Cross-dimensional Range

An inhomogeneous random recursive lattice was constructed from the multi-branched Husimi square lattice. The number of repeating units connected on one vertex was randomly set to be 2 or 3 with a quenched ratio $P_2$ or $P_3$ with $P_2+P_3=1$. The model was designed to describe complex thermodynamic systems with variable coordinating neighbors, e.g. the cross-dimensional range around the surface of a bulk materials. Classical ferromagnetic spin-1 Ising model was solved on the lattice to achieve an annealed solution via the local exact calculation technique. The model exhibits distinct spontaneous magnetization similar to the deterministic system, with however rigorous thermal fluctuations and significant singularities on the entropy behavior around the critical temperature, indicating a complex superheating and supercooling frustration in the cross-dimensional range induced by the stochasticity. The critical temperature was found to be exponentially correlated to the structural ratio $P$ with the coefficient fitted as 0.53187, while the ground state energy presents linear relation to $P$, implying a well-defined average property according to the structural ratio.

Design Study on Medium beta SC Half-Wave Resonator at IMP

A superconducting half-wave resonator has been designed with the frequency of 325 MHz and beta of 0.51. Different geometry parameters and shapes of inner conductors (racetrack, ring-shape and elliptical-shape) were optimized to decrease the peak electromagnetic fields to obtain higher accelerating gradients and minimize the dissipated power on the cavity walls. To suppress the operation frequency shift caused by the helium pressure fluctuations and maximize the tuning ranges, the frequency shifts and mechanical properties were studied on the electric and magnetic areas separately. At the end, the helium vessel was also designed to keep the mechanical structure as robust as possible. The fabrication and test of the prototype will be completed in the beginning of 2016.

Majorana zero modes in the hopping-modulated one-dimensional $p$-wave superconducting model

We investigate the one-dimensional $p$-wave superconducting model with periodically modulated hopping and show that under time-reversal symmetry, the number of the Majorana zero modes (MZMs) strongly depends on the modulation period. If the modulation period is odd, there can be at most one MZM. However if the period is even, the number of the MZMs can be zero, one and two. In addition, the MZMs will disappear as the chemical potential varies. We derive the condition for the existence of the MZMs and show that the topological properties in this model are dramatically different from the one with periodically modulated potential.

Theoretical Exploration on the Magnetic Properties of Ferromagnetic Metallic Glass: An Ising Model on Random Recursive Lattice

The ferromagnetic Ising spins are modeled on a recursive lattice constructed from random-angled rhombus units with stochastic configurations, to study the magnetic properties of the bulk Fe-based metallic glass. The integration of spins on the structural glass model well represents the magnetic moments in the glassy metal. The model is exactly solved by the recursive calculation technique. The magnetization of the amorphous Ising spins, i.e. the glassy metallic magnet is investigated by our modeling and calculation on a theoretical base. The results show that the glassy metallic magnets has a lower Curie temperature, weaker magnetization, and higher entropy comparing to the regular ferromagnet in crystal form. These findings can be understood with the randomness of the amorphous system, and agrees well with others' experimental observations.

A Triangular Array of the Counts of Natural Numbers with the Same Number of Prime Factors (Dimensions) Within 2n Space

By defining the dimension of natural numbers as the number of prime factors, all natural numbers smaller than 2^(n+1) (n is a natural number) can be classified by their dimensions, and the count of numbers of each dimension gives a dimensions distribution directly related to the distribution of prime numbers. A triangle similar to Pascals triangle from some aspects can be obtained by the ensemble of dimensions distributions. Some superficial explorations have been done to this interesting triangle.

The Crystallization Behavior of Porous PLA Prepared by Modified Solvent Casting/Particulate Leaching Technique for Potential Use of Tissue Engineering Scaffold

The porous PLA foams potential for tissue engineering usage are prepared by a modified solvent casting/particulate leaching method with different crystallinity. Since in typical method the porogens are solved in the solution and flow with the polymers during the casting and the crystallinity behavior of PLA chains in the limited space cannot be tracked, in this work the processing is modified by diffusing the PLA solution into a steady salt stack. With a thermal treatment before leaching while maintaining the stable structure of the porogens stack, the crystallinity of porous foams is made possible to control. The characterizations indicate the crystallization of porous foams is in a manner of lower crystallibility than the bulk materials. Pores and caves of around 250μm size are obtained in samples with different crystallinity. The macro-structures are not much impaired by the crystallization nevertheless the morphological effect of the heating process is still obvious.

The Thermodynamic Behaviors and Glass Transition on the Surface/Thin Film of An Ising Spin Model on Recursive Lattice

A quasi 2-dimensional recursive lattice formed by planar elements have been designed to investigate the surface thermodynamics of Ising spin glass system with the aim to study the metastability of supercooled liquids and the ideal glass transition. The lattice is constructed as a hybrid of partial Husimi lattice representing the bulk and 1D single bonds representing the surface. The recursive properties of the lattices were adopted to achieve exact calculations. The model has an anti-ferromagnetic interaction to give rise to an ordered phase identified as crystal, and a metastable solution representing the amorphous/metastable phase. Interactions between particles farther away than the nearest neighbor distance are taken into consideration. Free energy and entropy of the ideal crystal and supercooled liquid state of the model on the surface are calculated by the partial partition function. By analyzing the free energies and entropies of the crystal and supercooled liquid state, we are able to identify the melting transition and the second order ideal glass transition on the surface. The results show that due to the coordination number change, the transition temperature on the surface decreases significantly compared to the bulk system. Our calculation agrees with experimental and simulation results on the thermodynamics of surfaces and thin films conducted by others.

The Thermodynamic Transitions of Antiferromagnetic Ising Model on the Fractional Multi-branched Husimi Recursive Lattice

The multi-branched Husimi recursive lattice has been extended to a virtual structure with fractional numbers of branches joined on one site. Although the lattice is undrawable in real space, the concept is consistent with regular Husimi lattice. The Ising spins of antiferromagnetic interaction on such a sets of lattices were calculated to check the critical temperatures ($T_{c}$) and ideal glass transition temperatures ($T_{k}$) variation with fractional branch numbers. Besides the similar results of two solutions representing the stable state (crystal) and metastable state (supercooled liquid) and indicating the phase transition temperatures, the phase transitions show a well-defined shift with branch number variation. Therefore the fractional branch number as a parameter can be used as an adjusting tool in constructing a recursive lattice model to describe real systems.

Thermodynamic Comparison and the Ideal Glass Transition of A Monatomic Systems Modeled as an Antiferromagnetic Ising Model on Husimi and Cubic Recursive Lattices of the Same Coordination Number

Two kinds of recursive lattices with the same coordination number but different unit cells (2-D square and 3-D cube) are constructed and the antiferromagnetic Ising model is solved exactly on them to study the stable and metastable states. The Ising model with multi-particle interactions is designed to represent a monatomic system or an alloy. Two solutions of the model exhibit the crystallization of liquid, and the ideal glass transition of supercooled liquid respectively. Based on the solutions, the thermodynamics on both lattices was examined. In particular, the free energy, energy, and entropy of the ideal glass, supercooled liquid, crystal, and liquid state of the model on each lattice were calculated and compared with each other. Interactions between particles farther away than the nearest neighbor distance are taken into consideration. The two lattices show comparable properties on the transition temperatures and the thermodynamic behaviors, which proves that both of them are practical to describe the regular 3-D case, while the different effects of the unit types are still obvious.
