Classification of real modules in monoidal categorifications of cluster algebras

In this paper, we propose a conjectural formula for the highest $\ell$-weight monomial of an arbitrary real module over a simply-laced quantum affine algebra. We verify the conjecture under a multiplicative reachability condition, answering the Hernandez--Leclerc classification problem in monoidal categorifications of cluster algebras under this condition. Moreover, we introduce the notion of cluster modules, generalizing Kirillov--Reshetikhin modules and Hernandez--Leclerc modules as special cases. We prove that cluster modules are reachable real modules, and obtain a system of equations governing $q$-characters of the prime cluster modules, providing a natural generalization of both the classical T-system relations for Kirillov--Reshetikhin modules and the exchange relations for Hernandez--Leclerc modules.

Continued fractions and orderings on the Markov numbers

Markov numbers are integers that appear in the solution triples of the Diophantine equation, $x^2+y^2+z^2=3xyz$, called the Markov equation. A classical topic in number theory, these numbers are related to many areas of mathematics such as combinatorics, hyperbolic geometry, approximation theory and cluster algebras. There is a natural map from the rational numbers between zero and one to the Markov numbers. In this paper, we prove two conjectures seen in Martin Aigner's book, Markov's theorem and 100 years of the uniqueness conjecture, that determine an ordering on subsets of the Markov numbers based on their corresponding rational. The proof relies on a relationship between Markov numbers and continuant polynomials which originates in Frobenius' 1913 paper.

Newton polytopes of rank 3 cluster variables

We characterize the cluster variables of skew-symmetrizable cluster algebras of rank 3 by their Newton polytopes. The Newton polytope of the cluster variable $z$ is the convex hull of the set of all $\mathbf{p}\in\mathbb{Z}^3$ such that the Laurent monomial ${\bf x}^{\mathbf{p}}$ appears with nonzero coefficient in the Laurent expansion of $z$ in the cluster ${\bf x}$. We give an explicit construction of the Newton polytope in terms of the exchange matrix and the denominator vector of the cluster variable. Along the way, we give a new proof of the fact that denominator vectors of non-initial cluster variables are non-negative in a cluster algebra of arbitrary rank.

On the Number of $τ$-Tilting Modules over Nakayama Algebras

Let $Λ^r_n$ be the path algebra of the linearly oriented quiver of type $\mathbb{A}$ with $n$ vertices modulo the $r$-th power of the radical, and let $\widetildeΛ^r_n$ be the path algebra of the cyclically oriented quiver of type $\widetilde{\mathbb{A}}$ with $n$ vertices modulo the $r$-th power of the radical. Adachi gave a recurrence relation for the number of $τ$-tilting modules over $Λ^r_n$. In this paper, we show that the same recurrence relation also holds for the number of $τ$-tilting modules over $\widetildeΛ^r_n$. As an application, we give a new proof for a result by Asai on recurrence formulae for the number of support $τ$-tilting modules over $Λ^r_n$ and $\widetildeΛ^r_n$.

Tilting modules arising from knot invariants

We construct tilting modules over Jacobian algebras arising from knots. To a two-bridge knot $L[a_1,\ldots,a_n]$, we associate a quiver $Q$ with potential and its Jacobian algebra $A$. We construct a family of canonical indecomposable $A$-modules $M(i)$, each supported on a different specific subquiver $Q(i)$ of $Q$. Each of the $M(i)$ is expected to parametrize the Jones polynomial of the knot. We study the direct sum $M=\oplus_iM(i)$ of these indecomposables inside the module category of $A$ as well as in the cluster category. In this paper we consider the special case where the two-bridge knot is given by two parameters $a_1,a_2$. We show that the module $M$ is rigid and $τ$-rigid, and we construct a completion of $M$ to a tilting (and $τ$-tilting) $A$-module $T$. We show that the endomorphism algebra $\operatorname{End}_AT$ of $T$ is isomorphic to $A$, and that the mapping $T\mapsto A[1]$ induces a cluster automorphism of the cluster algebra $\mathcal{A}(Q)$. This automorphism is of order two. Moreover, we give a mutation sequence that realizes the cluster automorphism. In particular, we show that the quiver $Q$ is mutation equivalent to an acyclic quiver of type $T_{p,q,r}$ (a tree with three branches). This quiver is of finite type if $(a_1,a_2)=(a_1,2), (1,a_2),$ or $(2,3)$, it is tame for $(a_1,a_2)=(2,4)$ or $(3,3)$, and wild otherwise.

A geometric $q$-character formula for snake modules

Let $\mathscr{C}$ be the category of finite dimensional modules over the quantum affine algebra $U_q(\widehat{\mathfrak{g}})$ of a simple complex Lie algebra ${\mathfrak{g}}$. Let $\mathscr{C}^-$ be the subcategory introduced by Hernandez and Leclerc. We prove the geometric $q$-character formula conjectured by Hernandez and Leclerc in types $\mathbb{A}$ and $\mathbb{B}$ for a class of simple modules called snake modules introduced by Mukhin and Young. Moreover, we give a combinatorial formula for the $F$-polynomial of the generic kernel associated to the snake module. As an application, we show that snake modules correspond to cluster monomials with square free denominators and we show that snake modules are real modules. We also show that the cluster algebras of the category $\mathscr{C}_1$ are factorial for Dynkin types $\mathbb{A,D,E}$.

Cluster-tilted and quasi-tilted algebras

In this paper, we prove that relation-extensions of quasi-tilted algebras are 2-Calabi-Yau tilted. With the objective of describing the module category of a cluster-tilted algebra of euclidean type, we define the notion of reflection so that any two local slices can be reached one from the other by a sequence of reflections and coreflections. We then give an algorithmic procedure for constructing the tubes of a cluster-tilted algebra of euclidean type. Our main result characterizes quasi-tilted algebras whose relation-extensions are cluster-tilted of euclidean type.

Hochschild cohomology of relation extension algebras

Let $B$ be the split extension of a finite dimensional algebra $C$ by a $C$-$C$-bimodule $E$. We define a morphism of associative graded algebras $φ^*:\HH^*(B)\rightarrow \HH^*(C)$ from the Hochschild cohomology of $B$ to that of $C$, extending similar constructions for the first cohomology groups made and studied by Assem, Bustamante, Igusa, Redondo and Schiffler. In the case of a trivial extension $B=C\ltimes E$, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for each $φ^n$ to be surjective. We prove the surjectivity of $φ^1$ for a class of trivial extensions that includes relation extensions and hence cluster-tilted algebras. Finally, we study the kernel of $φ^1$ for any trivial extension, and give a more precise description of this kernel in the case of relation extensions.

Induced and Coinduced Modules in Cluster-Tilted Algebras

We propose a new approach to study the relation between the module categories of a tilted algebra $C$ and the corresponding cluster-tilted algebra $B=C\ltimes E$. This new approach consists of using the induction functor $-\otimes_C B$ as well as the coinduction functor $D(B\otimes_C D-)$. We show that $DE$ is a partial tilting and a $τ$-rigid $C$-module and that the induced module $DE\otimes_C B$ is a partial tilting and a $τ$-rigid $B$-module. Furthermore, if $C=\text{End}_A T$ for a tilting module $T$ over a hereditary algebra $A$, we compare the induction and coinduction functors to the Buan-Marsh-Reiten functor $\text{Hom}_{\mathcal{C}_A}(T,-)$ from the cluster-category of $A$ to the module category of $B$. We also study the question which $B$-modules are actually induced or coinduced from a module over a tilted algebra.

Injective Presentations of Induced Modules over Cluster-Tilted Algebras

Every cluster-tilted algebra $B$ is the relation extension $C\ltimes \text{Ext}^2_C(DC,C)$ of a tilted algebra $C$. A $B$-module is called induced if it is of the form $M\otimes_C B$ for some $C$-module $M$. We study the relation between the injective presentations of a $C$-module and the injective presentations of the induced $B$-module. Our main result is an explicit construction of the modules and morphisms in an injective presentation of any induced $B$-module. In the case where the $C$-module, and hence the $B$-module, is projective, our construction yields an injective resolution. In particular, it gives a module theoretic proof of the well-known 1-Gorenstein property of cluster-tilted algebras.

On syzygies over 2-Calabi-Yau tilted algebras

We characterize the syzygies and co-syzygies over 2-Calabi-Yau tilted algebras in terms of the Auslander-Reiten translation and the syzygy functor. We explore connections between the category of syzygies, the category of Cohen-Macaulay modules, the representation dimension of algebras and the Igusa-Todorov functions. In particular, we prove that the Igusa-Todorov dimensions of d-Gorenstein algebras are equal to d. For cluster-tilted algebras of Dynkin type D, we give a geometric description of the stable Cohen-Macaulay category in terms of tagged arcs in the punctured disc. We also describe the action of the syzygy functor in a geometric way. This description allows us to compute the Auslander-Reiten quiver of the stable Cohen-Macaulay category using tagged arcs and geometric moves.

On the first Hochschild cohomology group of a cluster-tilted algebra

Given a cluster-tilted algebra B, we study its first Hochschild cohomology group HH^1(B) with coefficients in the B-B-bimodule B. If C is a tilted algebra such that B is the relation extension of C, then we show that if C is constrained, or else if B is tame, then HH^1(B) is isomorphic, as a k-vector space, to the direct sum of HH^1(C) with k^{n\_{B,C}}, where n\_{B,C} is an invariant linking the bound quivers of B and C. In the representation-finite case, HH^1(B) can be read off simply by looking at the quiver of B.

Snake graph calculus and cluster algebras from surfaces III: Band graphs and snake rings

We introduce several commutative rings, the snake rings, that have strong connections to cluster algebras. The elements of these rings are residue classes of unions of certain labeled graphs that were used to construct canonical bases in the theory of cluster algebras. We obtain several rings by varying the conditions on the structure as well as the labelling of the graphs. The most restrictive form of this ring is isomorphic to the ring $\mathbb{Z}[x,y]$ of polynomials in two variables over the integers. A more general form contains all cluster algebras of unpunctured surface type. The definition of the rings requires the snake graph calculus which is completed in this paper building on two earlier articles on the subject. Identities in the snake ring correspond to bijections between the posets of perfect matchings of the graphs. One of the main results of the current paper is the completion of the explicit construction of these bijections.

Snake graph calculus and cluster algebras from surfaces II: Self-crossing snake graphs

Snake graphs appear naturally in the theory of cluster algebras. For cluster algebras from surfaces, each cluster variable is given by a formula which is parametrized by the perfect matchings of a snake graph. In this paper, we continue our study of snake graphs from a combinatorial point of view. We introduce the notions of abstract snake graphs and abstract band graphs, their crossings and self-crossings, as well as the resolutions of these crossings. We show that there is a bijection between the set of perfect matchings of (self-)crossing snake graphs and the set of perfect matchings of the resolution of the crossing. In the situation where the snake and band graphs are coming from arcs and loops in a surface without punctures, we obtain a new proof of skein relations in the corresponding cluster algebra.

Cluster automorphisms and compatibility of cluster variables

In this paper, we introduce a notion of unistructural cluster algebras, for which the set of cluster variables uniquely determines the clusters. We prove that cluster algebras of Dynkin type and cluster algebras of rank 2 are unistructural, then prove that if $\mathcal{A}$ is unistructural or of Euclidean type, then $f: \mathcal{A}\to \mathcal{A}$ is a cluster automorphism if and only if $f$ is an automorphism of the ambient field which restricts to a permutation of the cluster variables. In order to prove this result, we also investigate the Fomin-Zelevinsky conjecture that two cluster variables are compatible if and only if one does not appear in the denominator of the Laurent expansions of the other.

The first Hochschild cohomology group of a cluster-tilted algebra revisited

Given a cluster-tilted algebra B we study its first Hochschild cohomology group HH1(B) with coefficients in the B-B-bimodule B. If C is a tilted algebra such that B is the relation extension of C by E= Ext2(DC,C), then we prove that HH1(B) is isomorphic, as a vector space, to the direct sum of HH1(C) with HH1(B,E). This yields homological interpretations for results of the first and the fourth author with M.J. Redondo.

Idempotents in representation rings of quivers

For an acyclic quiver Q, we solve the Clebsch-Gordan problem for the projective representations by computing the multiplicity of a given indecomposable projective in the tensor product of two indecomposable projectives. Motivated by this problem for arbitrary representations, we study idempotents in the representation ring of Q (the free abelian group on the indecomposable representations, with multiplication given by tensor product). We give a general technique for constructing such idempotents and for decomposing the representation ring into a direct product of ideals, utilizing morphisms between quivers and categorical Moebius inversion.

On a category of cluster algebras

We introduce a category of cluster algebras with fixed initial seeds. This category has countable coproducts, which can be constructed combinatorially, but no products. We characterise isomorphisms and monomorphisms in this category and provide combinatorial methods for constructing special classes of monomorphisms and epimorphisms. In the case of cluster algebras from surfaces, we describe interactions between this category and the geometry of the surfaces.

Snake graph calculus and cluster algebras from surfaces

Snake graphs appear naturally in the theory of cluster algebras. For cluster algebras from surfaces, each cluster variable is given by a formula which is parametrized by the perfect matchings of a snake graph. In this paper, we identify each cluster variable with its snake graph, and interpret relations among the cluster variables in terms of these graphs. In particular, we give a new proof of skein relations of two cluster variables.

A Combinatorial Formula for Rank 2 Cluster Variables

Let $r$ be any positive integer, and let $x_1, x_2$ be indeterminates. We consider the sequence $\{x_n\}$ defined by the recursive relation $$ x_{n+1} =(x_n^r +1)/{x_{n-1}} $$ for any integer $n$. Finding a combinatorial expression for $x_n$ as a rational function of $x_1$ and $x_2$ has been an open problem since 2001. We give a direct elementary formula for $x_n$ in terms of subpaths of a specific lattice path in the plane. The formula is manifestly positive, providing a new proof of a result by Nakajima and Qin.

Algebras from surfaces without punctures

We introduce a new class of finite dimensional gentle algebras, the surface algebras, which are constructed from an unpunctured Riemann surface with boundary and marked points by introducing cuts in internal triangles of an arbitrary triangulation of the surface. We show that surface algebras are endomorphism algebras of partial cluster-tilting objects in generalized cluster categories, we compute the invariant of Avella-Alaminos and Geiss for surface algebras and we provide a geometric model for the module category of surface algebras.

The higher relation bimodule

Given a finite dimensional algebra A of finite global dimension, we consider the trivial extension of A by the A-A-bimodule $\oplus_{i\ge 2} \Ext^2_A(DA,A)$, which we call the higher relation bimodule. We first give a recipe allowing to construct the quiver of this trivial extension in case A is a string algebra and then apply it to prove that, if A is gentle, then the tensor algebra of the higher relation bimodule is gentle.

Quivers with relations arising from clusters (A_n case)

Cluster algebras were introduced by S. Fomin and A. Zelevinsky in connection with dual canonical bases. Let U be a cluster algebra of type A_n. We associate to each cluster C of U an abelian category Cat_C such that the indecomposable objects of Cat_C are in natural correspondence with the cluster variables of U which are not in C. We give an algebraic realization and a geometric realization of Cat_C. Then, we generalize the ``denominator Theorem'' of Fomin and Zelevinsky to any cluster.
