On the Compton scattering vertex for massive scalar QED

We investigate the Compton scattering vertex of charged scalars and photons in scalar quantum electrodynamics (SQED). We carry out its non perturbative construction consistent with Ward-Fradkin-Green-Takahashi identity (WFGTI) which relates 3-point vertices to the 4-point ones. There is an undetermined part which is transverse to one or both the external photons, and needs to be evaluated through perturbation theory. We present in detail how the transverse part at the 1-loop order can be evaluated for completely general kinematics of momenta involved in covariant gauges and dimensions. This involves the calculation of genuine 4-point functions with three massive propagators, the most non-trivial integrals reported in this paper. We also discuss possible applications of our results.

The nonperturbative propagator and vertex in massless quenched QED_d

It is well known how multiplicative renormalizability of the fermion propagator, through its Schwinger-Dyson equation, imposes restrictions on the 3-point fermion-boson vertex in massless quenched quantum electrodynamics in 4-dimensions (QED$_4$). Moreover, perturbation theory serves as an excellent guide for possible nonperturbative constructions of Green functions. We extend these ideas to arbitrary dimensions $d$. The constraint of multiplicative renormalizability of the fermion propagator is generalized to a Landau-Khalatnikov-Fradkin transformation law in $d$-dimensions and it naturally leads to a constraint on the fermion-boson vertex. We verify that this constraint is satisfied in perturbation theory at the one loop level in 3-dimensions. Based upon one loop perturbative calculation of the vertex, we find additional restrictions on its possible nonperturbative forms in arbitrary dimensions.

Induced Parity Violation in Odd Dimensions

One of the interesting features about field theories in odd dimensions is the induction of parity violating terms and well-defined {\em finite} topological actions via quantum loops if a fermion mass term is originally present and conversely. Aspects of this issue are illustrated for electrodynamics in 2+1 and 4+1 dimensions. (3 uuencoded Postscript Files are appended at the end of the TexFile.)

Meson Supermultiplet Decay Constants

We use a covariant supermultiplet theory to determine the primary coupling constant associated with several types of two-body meson decay. Despite the diverse range of decays considered the primary coupling constant is surprisingly uniform. We envisage the extension of the techniques to heavy quark cases, including as preliminary examples the calculation of the $D^{*+}$ and $D^{*0}$ total decay widths with results $57.7 \pm 1.5$ KeV and $42.5 \pm 2.6$ KeV respectively, as well as some predictions about $D^*$ and $B^*$ radiative decays.
