General symmetry operators of the asymmetric quantum Rabi model

The true level crossing in the asymmetric quantum Rabi model without any obvious symmetry can be exhibited in the energy spectrum if the qubit bias is a multiple of the cavity frequency, which should imply the existence of the hidden symmetry. In this work, within a Bogoliubov operator approach, we can readily derive the symmetry operators associated with the hidden symmetry hierarchically for arbitrary multiples. The symmetry operators for small multiples in the literature can be extremely easily reproduced in our general scheme. In addition, a general parity operator is defined through the symmetry operator, which naturally includes the well-known parity operator of the symmetric model. We believe that the present approach can be straightforwardly extended to other asymmetric Rabi models to find the relevant symmetry operators.

Reversible ratchet effects in a narrow superconducting ring

We study the ratchet effect in a narrow pinning-free superconductive ring based on time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau (TDGL) equations. Voltage responses to external dc an ac currents at various magnetic fields are studied. Due to asymmetric barriers for flux penetration and flux exit in the ring-shaped superconductor, the critical current above which the flux-flow state is reached, as well as the critical current for the transition to the normal state, are different for the two directions of applied current. These effects cooperatively cause ratchet signal reversal at high magnetic fields, which has not been reported to date in a pinning-free system. The ratchet signal found here is larger than those induced by asymmetric pinning potentials. Our results also demonstrate the feasibility of using mesoscopic superconductors to employ superconducting diode effect in versatile superconducting devices.

$\mathcal{PT}$ symmetry of a square-wave modulated two-level system

We study a non-Hermitian two-level system with square-wave modulated dissipation and coupling. Based on the Floquet theory, we achieve an effective Hamiltonian from which the boundaries of the $\mathcal{PT}$ phase diagram are captured exactly. Two kinds of $\mathcal{PT}$ symmetry broken phases are found whose effective Hamiltonians differ by a constant $ω/ 2$. For the time-periodic dissipation, a vanishingly small dissipation strength can lead to the $\mathcal{PT}$ symmetry breaking in the $(2k-1)$-photon resonance ($Δ= (2k-1) ω$), with $k=1,2,3\dots$ It is worth noting that such a phenomenon can also happen in $2k$-photon resonance ($Δ= 2k ω$), as long as the dissipation strengths or the driving times are imbalanced, namely $γ_0 \ne - γ_1$ or $T_0 \ne T_1$. For the time-periodic coupling, the weak dissipation induced $\mathcal{PT}$ symmetry breaking occurs at $Δ_{\mathrm{eff}}=kω$, where $Δ_{\mathrm{eff}}=\left(Δ_0 T_0 + Δ_1 T_1\right)/T$. In the high frequency limit, the phase boundary is given by a simple relation $γ_{\mathrm{eff}}=\pmΔ_{\mathrm{eff}}$.

First-order and continuous quantum phase transitions in the anisotropic quantum Rabi-Stark model

Various quantum phase transitions in the anisotropic Rabi-Stark model with both the nonlinear Stark coupling and the linear dipole coupling between a two-level system and a single-mode cavity are studied in this work. The first-order quantum phase transitions are detected by the level crossing of the ground-state and the first-excited state with the help of the pole structure of the transcendental functions derived by the Bogoliubov operators approach. As the nonlinear Stark coupling is the same as the cavity frequency, this model can be solved by mapping to an effective quantum oscillator. All energy levels close at the critical coupling in this case, indicating continuous quantum phase transitions. The critical gap exponent is independent of the anisotropy as long as the counter-rotating wave coupling is present, but essentially changed if the counter-rotating wave coupling disappears completely. It is suggested that the gapless Goldstone mode excitations could appear above a critical coupling in the present model in the rotating-wave approximation.

Quantum criticality of the Rabi-Stark model at finite frequency ratios

In this paper, we analyze the quantum criticality of the Rabi-Stark model at finite ratios of the qubit and cavity frequencies in terms of the energy gap, the order parameter, as well as the fidelity, if the Stark coupling strength is the same as the cavity frequency. The critical exponents are derived analytically. The energy gap and the length critical exponents are different from those in the quantum Rabi model and the Dicke model. The finite size scaling analysis for the order parameter and the fidelity susceptibility is also performed. The universal scaling behaviors are demonstrated and several finite size exponents can be then extracted. Furthermore, universal critical behavior can be also established in terms of the bosonic Hilbert space truncation number, and the corresponding critical scaling exponents are found. Interestingly, the critical correlation length exponents in terms of the photonic truncation number as well as the equivalently effective length scales are different in the Rabi-Stark model and the quantum Rabi model, suggesting they belong to different universality classes. The second-order quantum phase transition is convincingly corroborated in the Rabi-Stark model at finite frequency ratios, by contrast, it only emerges at the infinite frequency ratio in the original quantum Rabi model without the Stark coupling.

Rich phase diagram of quantum phases in the anisotropic subohmic spin-boson model

We study the anisotropic spin-boson model (SBM) with the subohmic bath by a numerically exact method based on variational matrix product states. A rich phase diagram is found in the anisotropy-coupling strength plane by calculating several observables. There are three distinct quantum phases: a delocalized phase with even parity (phase I), a delocalized phase with odd parity (phase II), and a localized phase with broken $Z_2$ symmetry (phase III), which intersect at a quantum tricritical point. The competition between those phases would give overall picture of the phase diagram. For small power of the spectral function of the bosonic bath, the quantum phase transition (QPT) from phase I to III with mean-field critical behavior is present, similar to the isotropic SBM. The novel phase diagram full with three different phases can be found at large power of the spectral function: For highly anisotropic case, the system experiences the QPTs from phase I to II via 1st-order, and then to the phase III via 2nd-order with the increase of the coupling strength. For low anisotropic case, the system only experiences the continuous QPT from phase I to phase III with the non-mean-field critical exponents. Very interestingly, at the moderate anisotropy, the system would display the continuous QPTs for several times but with the same critical exponents. This unusual reentrance to the same localized phase is discovered in the light-matter interacting systems. The present study on the anisotropic SBM could open an avenue to the rich quantum criticality.

Single-photon scattering controlled by an imperfect cavity

We study the single-photon transport in the coupled-resonator waveguide (CRW) controlled by an imperfect cavity. A Lorentzian spectrum is introduced to describe the dissipation. We find that the probability current conservation can be broken, although the imperfect cavity is a Hermitian system. The coupling strength between the imperfect cavity and the CRW has significant influences near the resonant frequency. With the increase of the coupling strength, the transmission coefficient becomes smaller. The spectral width plays a dominant role under the off-resonant condition, where the transmission coefficient is greatly suppressed with the increase of the spectral width. We also observe an abrupt jump of the transmission and reflection coefficients when the hopping amplitude is large enough. All the distinctive behaviors are closely related to the complex effective potential induced by the imperfect cavity.

Two-photon Rabi-Stark model

The analytically exact solutions to the two-photon Rabi-Stark model are given by using the Bogoliubov operators approach. Transcendental functions responsible for the exact solutions are derived. The zeros of the transcendental functions reproduce completely the regular spectra. The first-order quantum phase transitions are also detected by the pole structure of the derived transcendental functions, similar to the one-photon Rabi-Stark model, different from the two-photon Rabi model where the energy levels for the ground-state and the first excited state do not cross. The spectra collapse characteristics resemble those in two-photon Rabi model. Some low lying levels can split off from the collapse energy, different from the one-photon Rabi-Stark model in which all levels collapse.

Analytical solutions and genuine multipartite entanglement of the three-qubit Dicke model

We present analytical solutions to three qubits and a single-mode cavity coupling system beyond the rotating-wave approximation (RWA). The zero-th order approximation gives correct solutions when the qubits are far detuned from the cavity. The first order approximation, called generalized rotating-wave approximation (GRWA), produces an effective solvable Hamiltonian with the same form as the ordinary RWA one and exhibits substantial improvements of energy levels over the RWA even on resonance. Based on these analytical eigen-solutions, we study both the bipartite entanglement and genuine multipartite entanglement (GME). The dynamics of the concurrence and the GME using the GRWA are in consistent with the numerical ones. Interestingly, the well known sudden death of entanglement occurs in the bipartite entanglement dynamics but not in GME dynamics.

Two-photon Rabi model: Analytic solutions and spectral collapse

The two-photon quantum Rabi model with quadratic coupling is studied using extended squeezed states and we derive $G$-functions for Bargmann index $q=1/4$ and $3/4$. The simple singularity structure of the $G$-function allows to draw conclusions about the distribution of eigenvalues along the real axis. The previously found picture of the spectral collapse at critical coupling $g_{\mathrm{c}}$ has to be modified regarding the low lying states, especially the ground state: We obtain a finite gap between ground state and the continuum of excited states at the collapse point. For large qubit splitting, also other low lying states may be separated from the continuum at $g_{\mathrm{c}}$. We have carried out a perturbative analysis allowing for explicit and simple formulae of the eigenstates. Interestingly, a vanishing of the gap between ground state and excited continuum at $g_{\mathrm{c}}$ is obtained in each finite order of approximation. This demonstrates cleary the non-pertubative nature of the excitation gap. We corroborate these findings with a variational calculation for the ground state.

Concise analytic solutions to the quantum Rabi model with two arbitrary qubits

Using extended coherent states, an analytical exact study has been carried out for the quantum Rabi model (QRM) with two arbitrary qubits in a very concise way. The $G$-functions with $2 \times 2$ determinants are generally derived. For the same coupling constants, the simplest $G$-function, resembling that in the one-qubit QRM, can be obtained. Zeros of the $G$-function yield the whole regular spectrum. The exceptional eigenvalues, which do not belong to the zeros of the $G$ function, are obtained in the closed form. The Dark states in the case of the same coupling can be detected clearly in a continued-fraction technique. The present concise solution is conceptually clear and practically feasible to the general two-qubit QRM and therefore has many applications.

Exact solvability, non-integrability, and genuine multipartite entanglement dynamics of the Dicke model

In this paper, the finite size Dicke model of arbitrary number of qubits is solved analytically in an unified way within extended coherent states. For the $N=2k$ or $2k-1$ Dicke models ($k$ is an integer), the $G$-function, which is only an energy dependent $k \times k$ determinant, is derived in a transparent manner. The regular spectrum is completely and uniquely given by stable zeros of the $G$-function. The closed-form exceptional eigenvalues are also derived. The level distribution controlled by the pole structure of the $G$-functions suggests non-integrability for $N>1$ model at any finite coupling in the sense of recent criterion in literature. A preliminary application to the exact dynamics of genuine multipartite entanglement in the finite $N$ Dicke model is presented using the obtained exact solutions.

Solution of the two-mode quantum Rabi model using extended squeezed states

The two-mode quantum Rabi model with bilinear coupling is studied using extended squeezed states. We derive $G$-functions for each Bargmann index $q$% . They share a common structure with the $G$-function of the one-photon and two-photon quantum Rabi models. The regular spectrum is given by zeros of the $G$-function while the conditions for the presence of doubly degenerate (exceptional) eigenvalues are obtained in closed form through the lifting property. The simple singularity structure of the $G$-function allows to draw conclusions about the distribution of eigenvalues along the real axis and to understand the spectral collapse phenomenon when the coupling reaches a critical value.

Solutions to the anisotropic quantum Rabi model

In this work, the anisotropic quantum Rabi model with different coupling strengths of the rotating-wave and counter-rotating wave terms is studied by using two kinds of extended coherent states (ECS). By the first kind of ECS, we can derive a so-called $G$-function, by which both the regular and exceptional solutions can be given. The exceptional solution are just corresponding to the crossing points of two energy levels with different parities, so is doubly degenerate. By the second kind of ECS, a general scheme for the eigensolutions is derived analytically in a unified way. The zero-order approximation is just the adiabatic approximation, and the first-order approximation is actually a generalized rotating-wave approximation. The algebraic formulae for the eigensolutions are given explicitly in two approximations. The generalized rotating-wave approximations work well in a wide range of two different coupling strengths and the qubit detunings.

Absence of collapse in quantum Rabi oscillations

We show analytically that the collapse and revival in the population dynamics of the atom-cavity coupled system under the rotating wave approximation (RWA), valid only at very weak coupling, is an artifact as the atom-cavity coupling is increased. Even the first-order correction to the RWA is able to bring about the absence of the collapse in the dynamics of atomic population inversion thanks to intrinsic oscillations resulting from the transitions between two levels with the same atomic quantum number. The removal of the collapse is valid for a wide range of coupling strengths which are accessible to current experimental setups. In addition, based on our analytical results that greatly improve upon the conventional RWA, even the strong-coupling power spectrum can now be explained with the help of the numerically exact energy levels.

Generalized rotating-wave approximation to the two-qubit and cavity coupling system

The generalized rotating-wave approximation (GRWA) is presented for the two-qubit and cavity coipling system . The analytical expressions in the zeroth order approximation recover the previous adiabatic ones. The counterrotating-wave terms can be eliminated by performing the first order corrections. An effective solvable Hamiltonian with the same form as the ordinary RWA one are then obtained, giving a significantly accurate eigenvalues and eigenstates. Energy levels in the present GRWA are in accordant with the numerical exact diagonalization ones in the a wide range of coupling strength. The atomic population inversion in the GRWA is in quantitative agreement with the numerical results for different detunings in the ultrastrong coupling regime.

Quantum criticality of the sub-Ohmic spin-boson model within displaced Fock states

The spin-boson model is analytically studied using displaced Fock states (DFS) without discretization of the continuum bath. In the orthogonal displaced Fock basis, the ground-state wavefunction can be systematically improved in a controllable way. Interestingly, the zeroth-order DFS reproduces exactly the well known Silbey-Harris results. In the framework of the second-order DFS, the magnetization and the entanglement entropy are exactly calculated. It is found that the magnetic critical exponent $β$ is converged to $0.5$ in the whole sub-Ohmic bath regime $0<s<1$, compared with that by the exactly solvable generalized Silbey-Harris ansatz. It is strongly suggested that the system with sub-Ohmic bath is always above its upper critical dimension, in sharp contrast with the previous findings. This is the first evidence of the violation of the quantum-classical Mapping for $% 1/2<s<1$.

Quantum phase transitions of the spin-boson model within multi-coherent-states

A variational approach based on the multi-coherent-state ansatz with asymmetric parameters is employed to study the ground state of the spin-boson model. Without any artificial approximations except for the finite number of the coherent states, we find the robust Gaussian critical behavior in the whole sub-Ohmic bath regime. The converged critical coupling strength can be estimated with the $1/N$ scaling, where $N $ is the number of the coherent states. It is strongly demonstrated the breakdown of the well-known quantum-to-classical mapping for $1/2<s<1$. In addition, the entanglement entropy displays more steep jump around the critical points for the Ohmic bath than the sub-Ohmic bath.

Solutions to the quantum Rabi model with two equivalent qubits

Using extended coherent states, an analytically exact study has been carried out for the quantum Rabi model with two equivalent qubits. Compact transcendental functions of one variable have been derived leading to exact solutions. The energy spectrum is clearly identified and analyzed. Also obtained analytically is the necessary and sufficient conditions for the occurrence of isolated exceptional solutions, which are not doubly degenerate as in the one-qubit quantum Rabi model.

Two-species hard-core bosons on the triangular lattice: A quantum Monte Carlo study

Using worm-type quantum Monte Carlo simulations, we investigate bosonic mixtures on the triangular lattice of two species of bosons, which interact via nearest-neighbour intraspecies ($V$) and onsite interspecies ($U$) repulsions. For the case of symmetric hopping amplitude ($t_A/V=t_B/V$) and $U/V=1$, we determine a rich ground-state phase diagram that contains double solid, double superfluid (2SF), supersolid (SS), solid-superfluid (Solid-SF) and counterflow supersolid (CSS) states. The SS, Solid-SF and CSS states exhibit spontaneous symmetry breaking among the three sublattices of the triangular lattice and between the two species, which leads to nonzero crystalline density wave order in each species. We furthermore show that the CSS and the SS states are present for $t_A/V \neq t_B/V$, and the latter even survives up to $t_A/V \rightarrow \infty$ or $t_B/V \rightarrow \infty$ limit. The effects induced by the variation of $U/V$ and by the imbalance of particle numbers of the two species are also explored.

Exact dynamics of quantum correlations of two qubits coupled to bosonic baths

The counter rotating-wave term (CRT) effects from the system-bath coherence on the dynamics of quantum correlation of two qubits in two independent baths and a common bath are systematically investigated. The hierarchy approach is extended to solve the relevant spin boson models with the Lorentzian spectrum, the exact dynamics for the quantum entanglement and quantum discord (QD) are evaluated, and the comparisons with previous ones under the rotating-wave approximation are performed. For the two independent baths, beyond the weak system-bath coupling, the CRT essentially changes the evolution of both entanglement and QD. With the increase of the coupling, the revival of the entanglement is suppressed dramatically and finally disappears, and the QD becomes smaller monotonically. For the common bath, the entanglement is also suppressed by the CRT, but the QD shows quite different behaviors, if initiated from the correlated Bell states. In the non-Markovian regime, the QD is almost not influenced by the CRT and generally finite in the long time evolution at any coupling, while in the Markovian regime, it is significantly enhanced with the strong coupling.

Generalized rotating-wave approximation to biased qubit-oscillator systems

The generalized rotating-wave approximation with counter-rotating interactions has been applied to a biased qubit-oscillator system. Analytical expressions are explicitly given for all eigenvalues and eigenstates. For a flux qubit coupled to superconducting oscillators, spectra calculated by our approach are in excellent agreement with experiment. Calculated energy levels for a variety of biases also agree well with those obtained via exact diagonalization for a wide range of coupling strengths. Dynamics of the qubit has also been examined, and results lend further support to the validity of the analytical approximation employed here. Our approach can be readily implemented and applied to superconducting qubit-oscillator experiments conducted currently and in the near future with a biased qubit and for all accessible coupling strengths.

Exact solvability of the quantum Rabi models within Bogoliubov operators

The quantum Rabi model can be solved exactly by the Bargmann transformation from real coordinate to complex variable recently [Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{107}, 100401 (2011)]. By the extended coherent states, we recover this solution in an alternative simpler and perhaps more physical way without uses of any extra conditions, like Bargmann conditions. In the same framework, the two-photon Rabi model are solved exactly by extended squeeze states. Transcendental functions have been derived with the similar form as those in one-photon model. Both extended coherent states and squeeze states are essentially Fock states in the space of the corresponding Bogoliubov operators. The present approach could be easily extended to study the exact solvability or integrability of various spin-boson systems with multi-level, even multi-mode.

Jaynes-Cummings model: What emerges first beyond the rotating-wave approximation?

The Jaynes-Cummings model without the rotating-wave approximation can be solved exactly by extended Swain's ansatz with the conserved parity. The analytical approximations are then performed at different levels. The well-known rotating-wave approximation is naturally covered in the present zero and first approximations. The effect of the counter rotating-wave term emerges clearly in the second order approximation. The concise analytical expressions are given explicitly and can be applicable up to the ultra-strong coupling regime. The preliminary application to the vacuum Rabi splitting is shown to be very successful.

Quantum correlations in the collective spin systems

Quantum and classical pairwise correlations in two typical collective spin systems (i.e., the Dicke model and the Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model) are discussed. These correlations in the thermodynamical limit are obtained analytically and in a finite-size system are calculated numerically. Large-size scaling behavior for the quantum discord itself is observed, which has never been reported in another critical system. A logarithmic diverging behavior for the first derivative of the quantum discord is also found in both models, which might be universal in the second-order quantum phase transition. It is suggested that the pronounced maximum or minimum of first derivative of quantum discord signifies the critical point. Comparisons between the quantum discord and the scaled concurrence are performed. It is shown that the quantum discord is very small in one phase and robust in the other phase, while the scaled concurrence shows maximum at the critical point and decays rapidly when away from the the critical point.

Quantum discord dynamics of two qubits in the single-mode cavities

The dynamics of the quantum discord for two identical qubits in both two independent single-mode cavities and a common single-mode cavity are discussed. For the initial Bell state with correlated spins, while the entanglement sudden death can occur, the quantum discord vanishes only at discrete moments in the independent cavities and never vanishes in the common cavity. Interestingly, quantum discord and entanglement show opposite behaviors in the common cavity, unlike in the independent cavities. For the initial Bell state with anti-correlated spins, quantum discord and entanglement behave in the same way for both independent cavities and a common cavity. It is found that the detunnings always stabilize the quantum discord.

Quantum transport of double quantum dots coupled to an oscillator in arbitrary strong coupling regime

In this paper, we investigate the quantum transport of a double quantum dot coupled with a nanomechanical resonator at arbitrary strong electron-phonon coupling regimes. We employ the generalized quantum master equation to study full counting statistics of currents. We demonstrate the coherent phonon states method can be applied to decouple the electron-phonon interaction non-perturbatively. With the help of this non-perturbative treatment of electron-phonon couplings, we find that the phonon-assisted resonant tunneling emerges when the excess energy from the left quantum dot to the right one can excite integer number of phonons and multi-phonon excitations can enhance the transport in strong electron-phonon coupling regime. Moreover, we find that as the electron-phonon coupling increases, it first plays a constructive role to assist the transport, and then plays the role of scattering and strongly represses the transport.

Unified analytical treatments to qubit-oscillator systems

An effective scheme within two displaced bosonic operators with equal positive and negative displacements is extended to study qubit-oscillator systems analytically in an unified way. Many previous analytical treatments, such as generalized rotating-wave approximation (GRWA) [Phys. Rev. Lett. 99, 173601 (2007)] and an expansion in the qubit tunneling matrix element in the deep strong coupling regime [Phys. Rev. Lett. 105, 263603 (2010)] can be recovered straightforwardly in the present scheme. Moreover, further improving GRWA and extension to the finite-bias case are implemented easily. The analytical expressions are then derived explicitly and uniquely, which work well in a wide range of the coupling strengthes, detunings, and static bias including the recent experimentally accessible parameters.

Jaynes-Cummings model:Counter rotating effect on the vacuum Rabi splitting and atom-cavity dynamics

he effect of the counter-rotating terms in the Jaynes-Cummings model is investigated with an extended coherent-state approach. The counter-rotating terms greatly modify the vacuum Rabi splitting. Two peaks with different heights in the weak coupling regime and more than two peaks in the intermediate coupling regime are predicted. The collapses and revivals in the evolution of the atomic population inversion disappear in the intermediate coupling regime, but reappear in the strong coupling regime. This reappearance is similar to that under the rotating-wave approximation, attributed to the summation of periodic cosine functions of the evolution.

Worm-type Monte Carlo simulation of the Ashkin-Teller model on the triangular lattice

We investigate the symmetric Ashkin-Teller (AT) model on the triangular lattice in the antiferromagnetic two-spin coupling region ($J<0$). In the $J \rightarrow -\infty$ limit, we map the AT model onto a fully-packed loop-dimer model on the honeycomb lattice. On the basis of this exact transformation and the low-temperature expansion, we formulate a variant of worm-type algorithms for the AT model, which significantly suppress the critical slowing-down. We analyze the Monte Carlo data by finite-size scaling, and locate a line of critical points of the Ising universality class in the region $J<0$ and $K>0$, with K the four-spin interaction. Further, we find that, in the $J \rightarrow -\infty$ limit, the critical line terminates at the decoupled point $K=0$. From the numerical results and the exact mapping, we conjecture that this `tricritical' point ($J \rightarrow -\infty, K=0$) is Berezinsky-Kosterlitz-Thouless-like and the logarithmic correction is absent. The dynamic critical exponent of the worm algorithm is estimated as $z=0.28(1)$ near $(J \rightarrow -\infty, K=0)$.

Entanglement dynamics of two independent Jaynes-Cummings atoms without rotating-wave approximation

Entanglement evolution of two independent Jaynes-Cummings atoms without rotating-wave approximation (RWA) is studied by an numerically exact approach. The previous results in the RWA are essentially modified in the strong coupling regime ($g\ge 0.1$), which has been reached in the recent experiments on the flux qubit coupled to the LC resonator. For the initial Bell state with anti-correlated spins, the entanglement sudden death (ESD) is absent in the RWA, but does appear in the present numerical calculation without RWA. Aperiodic entanglement evolution in the strong coupling regime is observed. The strong atom-cavity coupling facilitates the ESD. The sign of detuning play a essential role in the entanglement evolution for strong coupling, which is irrelevant in the RWA. An analytical results based on an unitary transformation are also given, which could not modify the RWA picture essentially. It is suggested that the activation of the photons may be the origin of the ESD. The present theoretical results could be applied to artificial atoms realized in recent experiments.

Heat transport in an open transverse-field Ising chain

The heat conduction in an open transverse-field Ising chain is studied by using quantization in the Fock space of operators in the weak coupling regimes, i.e. the coupling is much smaller than the transverse field. The non-equilibrium steady state is obtained for large size systems coupled to Markovian baths at its ends. The ballistic transport is observed in the uniform chain and normal diffusion in the random-exchange chain. {In addition, the ballistic-diffusive transition is found at the intermediate disorder regime.} The thermal conductivity $κ$ is also calculated in the low and high temperature regimes. It is shown that $κ$ decays as $κ\sim T^{-2}$ at high temperatures.

Quantum Phase Transition in the Sub-Ohmic Spin-Boson Model: Extended Coherent-state Approach

We propose a general extended coherent state approach to the qubit (or fermion) and multi-mode boson coupling systems. The application to the spin-boson model with the discretization of a bosonic bath with arbitrary continuous spectral density is described in detail, and very accurate solutions can be obtained. The quantum phase transition in the nontrivial sub-Ohmic case can be located by the fidelity and the order-parameter critical exponents for the bath exponents $s<1/2$ can be correctly given by the fidelity susceptibility, demonstrating the strength of the approach.

Quantum phase transitions in coupled two-level atoms in a single-mode cavity

The dipole-coupled two-level atoms(qubits) in a single-mode resonant cavity is studied by extended bosonic coherent states. The numerically exact solution is presented. For finite systems, the first-order quantum phase transitions occur at the strong interatomic interaction. Similar to the original Dicke model, this system exhibits a second-order quantum phase transition from the normal to the superradiant phases. Finite-size scaling for several observables, such as the average fidelity susceptibility, the order parameter, and concurrence are performed for different interatomic interactions. The obtained scaling exponents suggest that interatomic interactions do not change the universality class.

Theory of Spectrum in Qubit-Oscillator Systems in the Ultrastrong Coupling Regime

Recent measurement on an LC resonator magnetically coupled to a superconducting qubit[arXiv:1005.1559] shows that the system operates in the ultra-strong coupling regime and crosses the limit of validity for the rotating-wave approximation of the Jaynes-Cummings model. By using extended bosonic coherent states, we solve the Jaynes-Cummings model exactly without the rotating-wave approximation. Our numerically exact results for the spectrum of the flux qubit coupled to the LC resonator are fully consistent with the experimental observations. The smallest Bloch-Siegert shift obtained is consistent with that observed in this experiment. In addition, the Bloch-Siegert shifts in arbitrary level transitions and for arbitrary coupling constants are predicted.

Berry Phase and Fidelity in the Dicke model with $A^{2}$ term

The instability, so-called the quantum-phase-like transition, in the Dicke model with a rotating-wave approximation for finite $N$ atoms is investigated in terms of the Berry phase and the fidelity. It can be marked by the discontinuous behavior of these quantities as a function of the atom-field coupling parameter. Involving an additional field $A^{2}$ term, it is observed that the instability is not eliminated beyond the characteristic atom-field coupling parameter even for strong interaction of the bosonic fields, contrarily to the previous studies.

Large-N scaling behavior of the ground-state energy and fidelity in the Dicke Model

Within the numerically exact solution to the Dicke model proposed previously, we study the quantum criticality in terms of the ground-state (GS) energy, fidelity, and the order parameter. The finite size scaling analysis for the average fidelity susceptibility (FS) and second derivative of GS energy are performed. The correlation length exponent is obtained to be $ν=2/3$, which is the same as that in Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model obtained previously, suggesting the same universality. It is observed that average FS and second derivative of GS energy show similar critical behavior, demonstrating the intrinsic relation in the Dicke model. The scaling behavior for the order parameter and the singular part of the GS energy at the critical point are also analyzed and the obtained exponents are consistent with the previous scaling hypothesis in 1/N expansion scheme.

Large-scale dynamical simulations of the three-dimensional XY spin glass

Large-scale simulations have been performed in the current-driven three-dimensional XY spin glass with resistively-shunted junction dynamics for sample sizes up to $64^3$. It is observed that the linear resistivity at low temperatures tends to zero, providing a strong evidence of a finite temperature phase-coherence (i.e. spin-glass) transition. Dynamical scaling analysis demonstrates that a perfect collapse of current-voltage data can be achieved. The obtained critical exponents agree with those in equilibrium Monte Carlo simulations, and are compatible with those observed in various experiments on high-T$_c$ cuprate superconductors. It is suggested that the spin and the chirality order simultaneously. A genuine continuous depinning transition is found at zero temperature. For low temperature creep motion, critical exponents are evaluated, and a non-Arrhenius creep motion is observed in the low temperature ordered phase. It is proposed that the XY spin glass gives an effective description of the transport properties in high-T$_c$ superconductors with d-wave symmetry.

We study the Terahertz (THz) emission mechanism in BSCCO with an external magnetic field theoretically. The total power is proportional to the square of the number of layers and the frequency. Under the small size limitation, the angular distribution is similar to that in the dipole emission. The present theoretical results for THz power output are in the same order of magnitude as the experimental ones, in contrast with previous simulations. A series of size-dependent intrinsic frequencies are also observed. When the external frequency induced by the external current resonates with intrinsic ones, the distinct THz emission is observed.

Vortex-lattice melting in magnesium diboride in terms of the elastic theory

In the framework of elastic theory, we study the vortex-lattice melting transitions in magnesium diboride for magnetic fields both parallel and perpendicular to the anisotropy axis. Using the parameters from experiments, the vortex-lattice melting lines in the H-T diagram are located systematically by various groups of Lindemann numbers and the anisotropic parameters. It is observed that the theoretical result for the vortex melting with parallel and perpendicular fields agrees well with the experimental data.

Ground-state properties of the two-site Hubbard-Holstein model: an exact solution

We revisit the two-site Hubbard-Holstein model by using extended phonon coherent states. The nontrivial singlet bipolaron is studied exactly in the whole coupling regime. The ground-state (GS) energy and the double occupancy probability are calculated. The linear entropy is exploited successfully to quantify bipartite entanglement between electrons and their environment phonons, displaying a maximum entanglement of the singlet-bipolaron in strong coupling regime. A dramatic drop in the crossover regime is observed in the GS fidelity and its susceptibility. The bipolaron properties is also characterized classically by correlation functions. It is found that the crossover from a two-site to single-site bipolaron is more abrupt and shifts to a larger electron-phonon coupling strength as electron-electron Coulomb repulsion increases.

Anomalous finite-size effect in superconducting Josephson junction arrays

We report large-scale simulations of the resistively-shunted Josephson junction array in strip geometry. As the strip width increases, the voltage first decreases following the dynamic scaling ansatz proposed by Minnhagen {\it et al.} [Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 74}, 3672 (1995)], and then rises towards the asymptotic value predicted by Ambegaokar {\it et al.} [Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 40}, 783 (1978)]. The nonmonotonic size-dependence is attributed to shortened life time of free vortices in narrow strips, and points to the danger of single-scale analysis applied to a charge-neutral superfluid state.
