Non-Parametric Attenuation Curves in Local Star-Forming Galaxies: Geometry Effect, Dust Evolution, and ISS

We introduce a non-parametric approach, the Stellar Population Synthesis with Equivalent Widths (SEW) method, to reconstruct spectrally-resolved attenuation curves for 169,568 star-forming galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 7 (SDSS DR7). Composite attenuation curves, stacked by stellar mass and inclination, reveal systematic trends: a higher stellar mass correlates with steeper slopes (lower $R_V$), while edge-on galaxies exhibit flatter curves due to geometric saturation effects. This flattening occurs because, as optical depth increases along the line of sight, the observed light becomes increasingly dominated by emission from the outer, less obscured layers of the galaxy. Using a simplified radiative transfer treatment based on a uniform dust-star mixture, we find the inclination-dependent slope variations are consistent with geometric effects, whereas the mass-dependent slope steepening indicates evolution in intrinsic dust properties, suggesting feedback-driven grain fragmentation in massive galaxies. Additionally, intermediate-scale structures (ISSs) are tentatively identified in the attenuation curves at approximately 4870, 6370, and 7690 Å. These results illustrate how the interplay among dust-star geometry, grain size evolution, and the galactic environment shapes attenuation curves.

Rigorous uniaxial limit of the Qian--Sheng inertial Q-tensor hydrodynamics for liquid crystals

This article is concerned with the rigorous connections between the inertial Qian--Sheng model and the Ericksen--Leslie model for the liquid crystal flow, under a more general condition of coefficients. More specifically, in the framework of Hilbert expansions, we show that: (i) when the elastic coefficients tend to zero (also called the uniaxial limit), the smooth solution to the inertial Qian--Sheng model converges to that to the full inertial Ericksen--Leslie model; (ii) when the elastic coefficients and the inertial coefficient tend to zero simultaneously, the smooth solution to the inertial Qian--Sheng model converges to that to the noninertial Ericksen--Leslie model.

EA$^2$E: Improving Consistency with Event Awareness for Document-Level Argument Extraction

Events are inter-related in documents. Motivated by the one-sense-per-discourse theory, we hypothesize that a participant tends to play consistent roles across multiple events in the same document. However recent work on document-level event argument extraction models each individual event in isolation and therefore causes inconsistency among extracted arguments across events, which will further cause discrepancy for downstream applications such as event knowledge base population, question answering, and hypothesis generation. In this work, we formulate event argument consistency as the constraints from event-event relations under the document-level setting. To improve consistency we introduce the Event-Aware Argument Extraction (EA$^2$E) model with augmented context for training and inference. Experiment results on WIKIEVENTS and ACE2005 datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of EA$^2$E compared to baseline methods.

Current-induced magnetization switching in a chemically disordered A1 CoPt single layer

We report the first demonstration of the current-induced magnetization switching in a perpendicularly magnetized A1 CoPt single layer. We show that good perpendicular magnetic anisotropy can be obtained in a wide composition range of the A1 Co1-xPtx single layers, which allows to fabricate perpendicularly magnetized CoPt single layer with composition gradient to break the inversion symmetry of the structure. By fabricating the gradient CoPt single layer, we have evaluated the SOT efficiency and successfully realized the SOT-induced magnetization switching. Our study provides an approach to realize the current-induced magnetization in the ferromagnetic single layers without attaching SOT source materials.

Identify Influential Spreaders in Asymmetrically Interacting Multiplex Networks

Identifying the most influential spreaders is important to understand and control the spreading process in a network. As many real-world complex systems can be modeled as multilayer networks, the question of identifying important nodes in multilayer network has attracted much attention. Existing studies focus on the multilayer network structure, while neglecting how the structural and dynamical coupling of multiple layers influence the dynamical importance of nodes in the network. Here we investigate on this question in an information-disease coupled spreading dynamics on multiplex networks. Firstly, we explicitly reveal that three interlayer coupling factors, which are the two-layer relative spreading speed, the interlayer coupling strength and the two-layer degree correlation, significantly impact the spreading influence of a node on the contact layer. The suppression effect from the information layer makes the structural centrality on the contact layer fail to predict the spreading influence of nodes in the multiplex network. Then by mapping the coevolving spreading dynamics into percolation process and using the message-passing approach, we propose a method to calculate the size of the disease outbreaks from a single seed node, which can be used to estimate the nodes' spreading influence in the coevolving dynamics. Our work provides insights on the importance of nodes in the multiplex network and gives a feasible framework to investigate influential spreaders in the asymmetrically coevolving dynamics.

Cross-media Structured Common Space for Multimedia Event Extraction

We introduce a new task, MultiMedia Event Extraction (M2E2), which aims to extract events and their arguments from multimedia documents. We develop the first benchmark and collect a dataset of 245 multimedia news articles with extensively annotated events and arguments. We propose a novel method, Weakly Aligned Structured Embedding (WASE), that encodes structured representations of semantic information from textual and visual data into a common embedding space. The structures are aligned across modalities by employing a weakly supervised training strategy, which enables exploiting available resources without explicit cross-media annotation. Compared to uni-modal state-of-the-art methods, our approach achieves 4.0% and 9.8% absolute F-score gains on text event argument role labeling and visual event extraction. Compared to state-of-the-art multimedia unstructured representations, we achieve 8.3% and 5.0% absolute F-score gains on multimedia event extraction and argument role labeling, respectively. By utilizing images, we extract 21.4% more event mentions than traditional text-only methods.

Short-term Load Forecasting with Dense Average Network

As an important part of the power system, power load forecasting directly affects the national economy. The data shows that improving the load forecasting accuracy by 0.01% can save millions of dollars for the power industry. Therefore, improving the accuracy of power load forecasting has always been the pursuing goals for a power system. Based on this goal, this paper proposes a novel connection, the dense average connection, in which the outputs of all preceding layers are averaged as the input of the next layer in a feed-forward fashion. Based on dense average connection , we construct the dense average network for power load forecasting. The predictions of the proposed model for two public datasets are better than those of existing methods. On this basis, we use the ensemble method to further improve the accuracy of the model. To verify the reliability of the model predictions, the robustness is analyzed and verified by adding input disturbances. The experimental results show that the proposed model is effective and robust for power load forecasting.

A data analysis method for isochronous mass spectrometry using two time-of-flight detectors at CSRe

The concept of isochronous mass spectrometry (IMS) applying two time-of-flight (TOF) detectors originated many years ago at GSI. However, the corresponding method for data analysis has never been discussed in detail. Recently, two TOF detectors have been installed at CSRe and the new working mode of the ring is under test. In this paper, a data analysis method for this mode is introduced and tested with a series of simulations. The results show that the new IMS method can significantly improve mass resolving power via the additional velocity information of stored ions. This improvement is especially important for nuclides with Lorentz factor $γ$-value far away from the transition point $γ_t$ of the storage ring CSRe.

Direct mass measurements of neutron-rich $^{86}$Kr projectile fragments and the persistence of neutron magic number $N$ = 32 in Sc isotopes

In this paper, we present direct mass measurements of neutron-rich $^{86}$Kr projectile fragments conducted at the HIRFL-CSR facility in Lanzhou by employing the Isochronous Mass Spectrometry (IMS) method. The new mass excesses of $^{52-54}$Sc nuclides are determined to be -40492(82), -38928(114), -34654(540) keV, which show a significant increase of binding energy compared to the reported ones in the Atomic Mass Evaluation 2012 (AME12). In particular, $^{53}$Sc and $^{54}$Sc are more bound by 0.8 MeV and 1.0 MeV, respectively. The behavior of the two neutron separation energy with neutron numbers indicates a strong sub-shell closure at neutron number $N$ = 32 in Sc isotopes.

The study of $U$-boson from $π^{0}$-meson decays at HIAF energy

Within the frame of LDM (light dark matter)-model, the LDM exchange particle $U$-boson (with mass 10-100 MeV) can be produced from many meson decay process so it attracts a lot of attention. Considering the merit of searching the $U$-boson from $π^{0}$ decay, the momentum spectra of light spin-1 vector $U$-boson from decay channel $π^{0}\rightarrow γU$ and the energy spectra of positron decay from $U\rightarrow e^{+}e^{-}$ at beam energy of 5-10 GeV are first presented by using a relativistic transport (ART) model. Moreover, the feasibility and rationality of searching the $U$-boson in the experiment at HIAF energy are discussed, which will be an important promotion to understand and ultimately detect the $U$-boson, both in theory and experiment.
