Metric mean dimension of irregular sets for maps with shadowing

We study the metric mean dimension of $Φ$-irregular set $I_Φ(f)$ in dynamical systems with the shadowing property. In particular we prove that for dynamical systems with shadowing containing a chain recurrent class $Y$, the values of topological entropy together with the values of lower and upper metric mean dimension of the set $I_Φ(f)\cap B(Y,\varepsilon)\cap CR(f)$ are bounded from below by the respective values for class $Y$.

On automatic calibration of the SIRD epidemiological model for COVID-19 data in Poland

We propose a novel methodology for estimating the epidemiological parameters of a modified SIRD model (acronym of Susceptible, Infected, Recovered and Deceased individuals) and perform a short-term forecast of SARS-CoV-2 virus spread. We mainly focus on forecasting number of deceased. The procedure was tested on reported data for Poland. For some short-time intervals we performed numerical test investigating stability of parameter estimates in the proposed approach. Numerical experiments confirm the effectiveness of short-term forecasts (up to 2 weeks) and stability of the method. To improve their performance (i.e. computation time) GPU architecture was used in computations.

Parametrized family of pseudo-arc attractors: physical measures and prime end rotations

The main goal of this paper is to study topological and measure-theoretic properties of an intriguing family of strange planar attractors. Building towards these results, we first show that any generic Lebesgue measure preserving map $f$ generates the pseudo-arc as inverse limit with $f$ as a single bonding map. These maps can be realized as attractors of disc homeomorphisms in such a way that the attractors vary continuously (in Hausdorff distance on the disc) with the change of bonding map as a parameter. Furthermore, for generic Lebesgue measure preserving maps $f$ the background Oxtoby-Ulam measures induced by Lebesgue measure for $f$ on the interval are physical on the disc and in addition there is a dense set of maps $f$ defining a unique physical measure. Moreover, the family of physical measures on the attractors varies continuously in the weak* topology; i.e. the parametrized family is statistically stable. We also find an arc in the generic Lebesgue measure preserving set of maps and construct a family of disk homeomorphisms parametrized by this arc which induces a continuously varying family of pseudo-arc attractors with prime ends rotation numbers varying continuously in $[0,1/2]$. It follows that there are uncountably many dynamically non-equivalent embeddings of the pseudo-arc in this family of attractors.

Quasi-graphs, zero entropy and measures with discrete spectrum

In this paper, we study dynamics of maps on quasi-graphs characterizing their invariant measures. In particular, we prove that every invariant measure of quasi-graph map with zero topological entropy has discrete spectrum. Additionally, we obtain an analog of Llibre-Misiurewicz's result relating positive topological entropy with existence of topological horseshoes. We also study dynamics on dendrites and show that if a continuous map on a dendrite, whose set of all endpoints is closed and has only finitely many accumulation points, has zero topological entropy, then every invariant measure supported on an orbit closure has discrete spectrum.

Generic Points for Dynamical Systems with Average Shadowing

It is proved that to every invariant measure of a compact dynamical system one can associate a certain asymptotic pseudo orbit such that any point asymptotically tracing in average that pseudo orbit is generic for the measure. It follows that the asymptotic average shadowing property implies that every invariant measure has a generic point. The proof is based on the properties of the Besicovitch pseudometric DB which are of independent interest. It is proved among the other things that the set of generic points of ergodic measures is a closed set with respect to DB. It is also showed that the weak specification property implies the average asymptotic shadowing property thus the theory presented generalizes most known results on the existence of generic points for arbitrary invariant measures.

Multi-recurrence and van der Waerden systems

We explore recurrence properties arising from dynamical approach to combinatorial problems like the van der Waerden Theorem. We describe relations between these properties, study their consequences for dynamics, and demonstrate connections to combinatorial problems. In particular, we present a measure-theoretical analog of a result of Glasner on multi-transitivity in topological weakly mixing minimal maps. We also obtain a dynamical proof of the existence of a C-set with zero Banach density.

Mixing properties in coded systems

We show that topological mixing, weak mixing and total transitivity are equivalent for coded systems. We provide an example of a mixing coded system which cannot be approximated by any increasing sequence of mixing shifts of finite type, has only periodic points of even period and each set of its generators consists of blocks of even length. We prove that such an example cannot be a synchronized system. We also show that a mixing coded systems has the strong property $P$.

When all closed subsets are recurrent?

In the paper we study relations of rigidity, equicontinuity and pointwise recurrence between a t.d.s. $(X,T)$ and the t.d.s. $(K(X),T_K)$ induced on the hyperspace $K(X)$ of all compact subsets of $X$, and provide some characterizations. Among other examples, we construct a minimal, non-equicontinuous, distal and uniformly rigid t.d.s. and a t.d.s. which has dense small periodic sets but does not have dense distal points, solving that way open questions existing in the literature.

Invariant scrambled sets, uniform rigidity and weak mixing

We show that for a non-trivial transitive dynamical system, it has a dense Mycielski invariant strongly scrambled set if and only if it has a fixed point, and it has a dense Mycielski invariant $δ$-scrambled set for some $δ>0$ if and only if it has a fixed point and not uniformly rigid. We also provide two methods for the construction of completely scrambled systems which are weakly mixing, proximal and uniformly rigid.

On "observable" Li-Yorke tuples for interval maps

In this paper we study the set of Li-Yorke $d$-tuples and its $d$-dimensional Lebesgue measure for interval maps $T\colon [0,1] \to [0,1]$. If a topologically mixing $T$ preserves an absolutely continuous probability measure 9with respect to Lebesgue), then the $d$-tuples have Lebesgue full measure, but if $T$ preserves an infinite absolutely continuous measure, the situation becomes more interesting. Taking the family of Manneville-Pomeau maps as example, we show that for any $d \ge 2$, it is possible that the set of Li-Yorke $d$-tuples has full Lebesgue measure, but the set of Li-Yorke $d+1$-tuples has zero Lebesgue measure.

On entropy of dynamical systems with almost specification

We construct a family of shift spaces with almost specification and multiple measures of maximal entropy. This answers a question from Climenhaga and Thompson [Israel J. Math. 192 (2012), no. 2, 785--817]. Elaborating on our examples we also prove that some sufficient conditions for every subshift factor of a shift space to be intrinsically ergodic given by Climenhaga and Thompson are in some sense best possible, moreover, the weak specification property neither implies intrinsic ergodicity, nor follows from almost specification. We also construct a dynamical system with the weak specification property, which does not have the almost specification property. We prove that the minimal points are dense in the support of any invariant measure of a system with the almost specification property. Furthermore, if a system with almost specification has an invariant measure with non-trivial support, then it also has uniform positive entropy over the support of any invariant measure and can not be minimal.

On various definitions of shadowing with average error in tracing

In this paper we present a systematic study of shadowing properties with average error in tracing such as (asymptotic) average shadowing, $\underline{d}$-shadowing, $\overline{d}$-shadowing and almost specification. As the main tools we provide a few equivalent characterizations of the average shadowing property, which also partly apply to other notions of shadowing. We prove that almost specification on the whole space induces this property on the measure center. Next, we show that always (e.g. without assumption that the map is onto) almost specification implies asymptotic average shadowing, which in turn implies the average shadowing property and consequently also $\underline{d}$-shadowing and $\overline{d}$-shadowing. Finally, we study connections among sensitivity, transitivity, equicontinuity and (average) shadowing.

On almost specification and average shadowing properties

In this paper we study relations between almost specification property, asymptotic average shadowing property and average shadowing property for dynamical systems on compact metric spaces. We show implications between these properties and relate them to other important notions such as shadowing, transitivity, invariant measures, etc. We provide examples that compactness is a necessary condition for these implications to hold. As a consequence of our methodology we also obtain a proof that limit shadowing in chain transitive systems implies shadowing.

On weak product recurrence and synchronization of return times

The paper is devoted to study of product recurrence. First, we prove that notions of $\F_{ps}-PR$ and $\F_{pubd}-PR$ are exactly the same as product recurrence, completing that way results of [P. Dong, S. Shao and X. Ye, \emph{Product recurrent properties, disjointness and weak disjointness}, Israel J. Math.], and consequently, extending the characterization of return times of distal points which originated from works of Furstenberg. We also study the structure of the set of return times of weakly mixing sets. As a consequence, we obtain new sufficient conditions for $\F_{s}-PR$ and also find a short proof that weakly mixing systems are disjoint with all minimal distal systems (in particular, our proof does not involve Furstenberg's structure theorem of minimal distal systems).

Shadowing property, weak mixing and regular recurrence

We show that a non-wandering dynamical system with the shadowing property is either equicontinuous or has positive entropy and that in this context uniformly positive entropy is equivalent to weak mixing. We also show that weak mixing together with the shadowing property imply the specification property with a special kind of regularity in tracing (a weaker version of periodic specification property). This in turn implies that the set of ergodic measures supported on the closures of orbits of regularly recurrent points is dense in the space of all invariant measures (in particular, invariant measures in such a system form the Poulsen simplex, up to an affine homeomorphism).

Factor maps and invariant distributional chaos

The main aim of this article is to show that maps with specification property have invariant distributionally scrambled sets and that this kind of scrambled set can be transferred from factor to extension under finite-to-one factor maps. This solves some open questions in the literature of the topic. We also show how our method can be applied in practice, taking as example Poincaré map of time-periodic nonautonomous planar differential equation $$ \dot{z}=v(t,z)=(1+e^{iκt}\abs{z}^2)\z^3 -N $$ where $κ$ and $N$ are sufficiently small positive real numbers.

On $n$-scrambled tuples and distributional chaos in a sequence

The main aim of the present paper is to study relations between $n$-scrambled tuples and their attraction-adherence properties with respect to various sequences of integers. This extends previous research on relations between chaos in the sense of Li and Yorke and distributional chaos with respect to a given sequence. Moreover, we construct a system which is $n$-distributionally chaotic but not $(n+1)$-chaotic.

Shadowing and Expansivity in Sub-Spaces

We address various notions of shadowing and expansivity for continuous maps restricted to a proper subset of their domain. We prove new equivalences of shadowing and expansive properties, we demonstrate under what conditions certain expanding maps have shadowing, and generalize some known results in this area. We also investigate the impact of our theory on maps of the interval, in which context some of our results can be extended.

On weak mixing, minimality and weak disjointness of all iterates

The article addresses some open questions about the relations between the topological weak mixing property and the transitivity of the map $f\times f^2 \times...\times f^m$, where $f\colon X\ra X$ is a topological dynamical system on a compact metric space. The theorem stating that a weakly mixing and strongly transitive system is $Δ$-transitive is extended to a non-invertible case with a simple proof. Two examples are constructed, answering the questions posed by Moothathu [Colloq. Math. 120 (2010), no. 1, 127--138]. The first one is a multi-transitive non weakly mixing system, and the second one is a weakly mixing non multi-transitive system. The examples are special spacing shifts. The later shows that the assumption of minimality in the Multiple Recurrence Theorem can not be replaced by weak mixing.
