Eigenvalue bounds for non-selfadjoint Dirac operators

In this work we prove that the eigenvalues of the $n$-dimensional massive Dirac operator $\mathscr{D}_0 + V$, $n\ge2$, perturbed by a possibly non-Hermitian potential $V$, are localized in the union of two disjoint disks of the complex plane, provided that $V$ is sufficiently small with respect to the mixed norms $L^1_{x_j} L^\infty_{\widehat{x}_j}$, for $j\in\{1,\dots,n\}$. In the massless case, we prove instead that the discrete spectrum is empty under the same smallness assumption on $V$, and in particular the spectrum is the same of the unperturbed operator, namely $σ(\mathscr{D}_0+V)=σ(\mathscr{D}_0)=\mathbb{R}$. The main tools we employ are an abstract version of the Birman-Schwinger principle, which include also the study of embedded eigenvalues, and suitable resolvent estimates for the Schrödinger operator.

On the supercritical defocusing NLW outside a ball

We study a defocusing semilinear wave equation, with a power nonlinearity $|u|^{p-1}u$, defined outside the unit ball of $\mathbb{R}^{n}$, $n\ge3$, with Dirichlet boundary conditions. We prove that if $p>n+4$ and the initial data are nonradial perturbations of large radial data, there exists a global smooth solution. The solution is unique among energy class solutions satisfying an energy inequality. The main tools used are the Penrose transform and a pointwise decay estimate for the exterior linear wave equation perturbed with a large, time dependent potential.

Weighted estimates for powers and Smoothing estimates of Schrödinger operators with inverse-square potentials

Let $\mathcal{L}_a$ be a Schrödinger operator with inverse square potential $a|x|^{-2}$ on $\mathbb{R}^d, d\geq 3$. The main aim of this paper is to prove weighted estimates for fractional powers of $\mathcal{L}_a$. The proof is based on weighted Hardy inequalities and weighted inequalities for square functions associated to $\mathcal{L}_a$. As an application, we obtain smoothing estimates regarding the propagator $e^{it\mathcal{L}_a}$.

Global existence of small equivariant wave maps on rotationally symmetric manifolds

We introduce a class of rotationally invariant manifolds, which we call \emph{admissible}, on which the wave flow satisfies smoothing and Strichartz estimates. We deduce the global existence of equivariant wave maps from admissible manifolds to general targets, for small initial data of critical regularity $H^{\frac n2}$. The class of admissible manifolds includes in particular asymptotically flat manifolds and perturbations of real hyperbolic spaces $\mathbb{H}^{n}$ for $n\ge3$.

On the regularity set and angular integrability for the Navier--Stokes equation

We investigate the size of the regular set for suitable weak solutions of the Navier--Stokes equation, in the sense of Caffarelli--Kohn--Nirenberg. We consider initial data in weighted Lebesgue spaces with mixed radial-angular integrability, and we prove that the regular set increases if the data have higher angular integrability, invading the whole half space $\{t>0\}$ in an appropriate limit. In particular, we obtain that if the $L^{2}$ norm with weight $|x|^{-\frac12}$ of the data tends to 0, the regular set invades $\{t>0\}$.

Scattering in the energy space for the NLS with variable coefficients

We consider the NLS with variable coefficients in dimension $n\ge3$ \begin{equation*} i \partial_t u - Lu +f(u)=0, \qquad Lv=\nabla^{b}\cdot(a(x)\nabla^{b}v)-c(x)v, \qquad \nabla^{b}=\nabla+ib(x), \end{equation*} on $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ or more generally on an exterior domain with Dirichlet boundary conditions, for a gauge invariant, defocusing nonlinearity of power type $f(u)\simeq|u|^{γ-1}u$. We assume that $L$ is a small, long range perturbation of $Δ$, plus a potential with a large positive part. The first main result of the paper is a bilinear smoothing (interaction Morawetz) estimate for the solution. As an application, under the conditional assumption that Strichartz estimates are valid for the linear flow $e^{itL}$, we prove global well posedness in the energy space for subcritical powers $γ<1+\frac{4}{n-2}$, and scattering provided $γ>1+\frac4n$. When the domain is $\mathbb{R}^{n}$, by extending the Strichartz estimates due to Tataru [Tataru08], we prove that the conditional assumption is satisfied and deduce well posedness and scattering in the energy space.

Weighted L^p estimates for powers of selfadjoint operators

We prove $L^{p}$ and weighted $L^{p}$ estimates for bounded functions of a selfadjoint operator satisfying both a pointwise gaussian estimate for its heat kernel and a finite speed of propagation property. As an application, we obtain weighted estimates for fractiional powers of an electromagnetic Schrödinger operator with singular coefficienta. The proofs are based on a modification of techniques due to Hebisch and Auscher and Martell. EDIT: second version, November 2010, a few inaccuracies have been corrected.

Atlas of products for wave-Sobolev spaces on $\mathbf R^{1+3}$

The wave-Sobolev spaces $H^{s,b}$ are $L^2$-based Sobolev spaces on the Minkowski space-time $\R^{1+n}$, with Fourier weights are adapted to the symbol of the d'Alembertian. They are a standard tool in the study of regularity properties of nonlinear wave equations, and in such applications the need arises for product estimates in these spaces. Unfortunately, it seems that with every new application some estimates come up which have not yet appeared in the literature, and then one has to resort to a set of well-established procedures for proving the missing estimates. To relieve the tedium of having to constantly fill in such gaps "by hand", we make here a systematic effort to determine the complete set of estimates in the bilinear case. We determine a set of necessary conditions for a product estimate $H^{s_1,b_1} \cdot H^{s_2,b_2} \hookrightarrow H^{-s_0,-b_0}$ to hold. These conditions define a polyhedron $Ω$ in the space $\R^6$ of exponents $(s_0,s_1,s_2,b_0,b_1,b_2)$. We then show, in space dimension $n=3$, that all points in the interior of $Ω$, and all points on the faces minus the edges, give product estimates. We can also allow some but not all points on the edges, but here we do not claim to have the sharp result. The corresponding result for $n=2$ and $n=1$ will be published elsewhere.

Evolution equations on non flat waveguides

We investigate the dispersive properties of evolution equations on waveguides with a non flat shape. More precisely we consider an operator $H=-Δ_{x}-Δ_{y}+V(x,y)$ with Dirichled boundary condition on an unbounded domain $Ω$, and we introduce the notion of a \emph{repulsive waveguide} along the direction of the first group of variables $x$. If $Ω$ is a repulsive waveguide, we prove a sharp estimate for the Helmholtz equation $Hu-λu=f$. As consequences we prove smoothing estimates for the Schrödinger and wave equations associated to $H$, and Strichartz estimates for the Schrödinger equation. Additionally, we deduce that the operator $H$ does not admit eigenvalues.

Global well-posedness of the Maxwell-Dirac system in two space dimensions

In recent work, Grünrock and Pecher proved that the Dirac-Klein-Gordon system in 2d is globally well-posed in the charge class (data in $L^2$ for the spinor and in a suitable Sobolev space for the scalar field). Here we obtain the analogous result for the full Maxwell-Dirac system in 2d. Making use of the null structure of the system, found in earlier joint work with Damiano Foschi, we first prove local well-posedness in the charge class. To extend the solutions globally we build on an idea due to Colliander, Holmer and Tzirakis. For this we rely on the fact that MD is charge subcritical in two space dimensions, and make use of the null structure of the Maxwell part.

Null structure and almost optimal local well-posedness of the Dirac-Klein-Gordon system

We prove almost optimal local well-posedness for the coupled Dirac-Klein-Gordon (DKG) system of equations in 1+3 dimensions. The proof relies on the null structure of the system, combined with bilinear spacetime estimates of Klainerman-Machedon type. It has been known for some time that the Klein-Gordon part of the system has a null structure; here we uncover an additional null structure in the Dirac equation, which cannot be seen directly, but appears after a duality argument.
