A Time Projection Chamber with GEM-Based Readout

For the International Large Detector concept at the planned International Linear Collider, the use of time projection chambers (TPC) with micro-pattern gas detector readout as the main tracking detector is investigated. In this paper, results from a prototype TPC, placed in a 1 T solenoidal field and read out with three independent GEM-based readout modules, are reported. The TPC was exposed to a 6 GeV electron beam at the DESY II synchrotron. The efficiency for reconstructing hits, the measurement of the drift velocity, the space point resolution and the control of field inhomogeneities are presented.

Measurement of CP Violation in the MSSM Neutralino Sector with the ILD

Supersymmetric models provide many new complex phases which lead to CP violating effects in collider experiments. As an example, CP-sensitive triple product asymmetries in neutralino production and subsequent leptonic two-body decays are studied within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. A full ILD detector simulation has been performed at a center of mass energy of 500GeV, including the relevant Standard Model background processes, a realistic beam energy spectrum, beam backgrounds and a beam polarization of 80% and -60% for the electron and positron beams, respectively. Assuming an integrated luminosity of 500fb-1 collected by the experiment and the performance of the current ILD detector, a relative measurement accuracy of 10% for the CP-sensitive asymmetry can be achieved in the chosen scenario.

A Lightweight Field Cage for a Large TPC Prototype for the ILC

We have developed and constructed the field cage of a prototype Time Projection Chamber for research and development studies for a detector at the International Linear Collider. This prototype has an inner diameter of 72 cm and a length of 61 cm. The design of the field cage wall was optimized for a low material budget of 1.21 % of a radiation length and a drift field homogeneity of Delta(E)/(E) less or equal 10^-4. Since November 2008 the prototype has been part of a comprehensive test beam setup at DESY and used as a test chamber for the development of Micro Pattern Gas Detector based readout devices.

Prospects for the study of the \stau-system in SPS1a' at the ILC

The prospects for the analysis of tau channels at the SUSY benchmark point SPS1a', especially from e+e- -> stau_1 stau_1 and e+e- -> stau_2 stau_2, have been studied in full simulation of the ILD detector concept forseen for the International Linear Collider. All accessible SUSY channels as well as all Standard Model backgrounds were generated at a centre-of-mass energy E_CMS=500 GeV, including the beam energy spectrum and beam backgrounds expected for nominal ILC beam parameters. With an integrated luminosity of 500 fb-1 delivered to the experiment, the masses of the stau_1 and stau_2 can be measured to 107.69^{+0.03}_{-0.06} GeV +- 1.1 δM_LSP and 183 ^{+11}_{-5} GeV +- 18 δM_LSP, respectively, while the true values in SPS1a' are 107.9 GeV and 194.9 GeV, respectively. The cross sections for stau_1 and stau_2 pair production could be obtained with a precision of 3.1% and 4.2%, respectively. Combining the mass and cross section measurement in the stau_2 channel allows to determine the LSP mass with a relative error of 1.7%, assuming a known mixing angle. In stau_1 -> tau LSP decays, the tau polarisation is measured to be 91 +- 9% and 87.0 +- 3.4% in the pi and rho decay channels of the tau, respectively. The true value in the simulated SPS1a' sample is 89.6%.
