Tensor Meson Pole contributions to the HLbL piece of $a_μ$ within R$χ$T

We compute the tensor meson pole contributions to the Hadronic Light-by-Light piece of $a_μ$ in the purely hadronic region, using Resonance Chiral Theory. Given the differences between the dispersive and holographic groups determinations, we consider timely to present an alternative evaluation. In our approach, the lightest tensor meson nonet and two vector meson resonance nonets are considered in the chiral limit. Disregarding operators with derivatives, only the form factor $\mathcal{F}_1^T$ is non-vanishing, as assumed in the dispersive study. All parameters are determined by imposing a set of short-distance QCD constraints, and the radiative decay widths. In this case, we obtain (in units of $10^{-11}$): $ a_2$-pole: $-\left(1.02(10)_{\rm stat}(^{+0.00}_{-0.12})_{\rm syst}\right)$, $f_2$-pole: $-\left(3.2(3)_{\rm stat}(^{+0.0}_{-0.4})_{\rm syst}\right)$ and $f_2^\prime$-pole: $-\left(0.042(13)_{\rm stat}\right)$, which add up to $a_μ^{a_2+f_2+f_2^\prime \rm -pole}=-\left(4.3^{+0.3}_{-0.5}\right)$, in close agreement with the holographic result when truncated to $\mathcal F_1^T$ only. However, with an ad-hoc extended Lagrangian, that also generates $\mathcal F_3^T$, as in the holographic approach, we have found: $ a_2$-pole: $+0.47(1.43)_{\rm norm}(3)_{\rm stat}(^{+0.06}_{-0.00})_{\rm syst}$, $f_2$-pole: $+1.18(4.18)_{\rm norm}(12)_{\rm stat}(^{+0.24}_{-0.00})_{\rm syst}$ and $f_2^\prime$-pole: $+0.040(78)_{\rm norm}(2)_{\rm stat}$, summing to $a_μ^{a_2+f_2+f_2^\prime \rm - pole}=+1.7(4.4)$, which agree with these recent determinations within uncertainties (dominated by the $\mathcal F_3^T$ normalization). We point out that $RχT$ generates all form factors, the contributions to $a_μ$ of $\mathcal F_{2,4,5}$ cannot be evaluated in the current basis, preventing for the moment a complete calculation of $a_μ^{\rm T-poles}$ within our framework.

Michel parameters in the presence of massive Dirac and Majorana neutrinos

We analyse the effects of Dirac and Majorana neutrinos on leptonic decays of muon and tau leptons using the most general four-lepton effective interaction Hamiltonian of dimension six. We calculate the specific energy and angular distribution of the final charged lepton, including the polarizations of the initial and final charged leptons. We discuss the new generalized Michel parameters and focus on the effects of the heavy neutrino masses that would lead to sizable contributions on scenarios where the new sterile neutrinos have non-negligible mixing. Specifically, the most promising scenario is found for the case of $τ$ decay with one heavy final-state neutrino with a mass around $10^2 - 10^3$ MeV, where the linear term suppression could be of order $10^{-4}$, low enough to be measured in current and forthcoming experiments.

Axial-vector exchange contribution to the Hyperfine Splitting

We revisit the contribution of axial-vector mesons to the hyperfine splitting of muonic hydrogen. We focus our attention on the doubly-virtual asymptotic behavior of the relevant form factors of axial-vector mesons, together with their coupling to nucleons based on resonance saturation and short-distance constraints. Among others, we find significant differences with respect to previous studies, including an opposite sign and a $\sim50\%$ effect of the doubly-virtual high-energy behavior.

Dyson-Schwinger equations and the muon g-2

We present a brief introduction to the Dyson-Schwinger equations (DSEs) approach to hadron and high-energy physics. In particular, how this formalism is applied to calculate the electromagnetic form factors $γ^* γ^* \to \textbf{P}^0$ and $γ^* \textbf{P}^\pm \to \textbf{P}^\pm$ (with $\textbf{P}^\pm$ and $\textbf{P}^0$ charged and neutral ground-state pseudoscalar mesons, respectively) is discussed. Subsequently, the corresponding contributions of those form factors to the muon anomalous magnetic moment ($g-2$) are estimated. We look forward to promoting the DSE approach to address theoretical aspects of the muon $g-2$, highlighting some calculations that could be carried out in the future.

Improved description of di-lepton production in $τ^-\toν_τP^-$ decays

Recently, the Belle collaboration reported the first measurements of the $τ^- \toν_τπ^-e^+e^-$ branching fraction and the spectrum of the pion-dielectron system. In an analysis previous to Belle's results, we evaluated this branching fraction which turned out to be compatible with that reported by Belle, although with a large uncertainty. This is the motivation to seek for improvements on our previous evaluation of $τ^- \to ν_τπ^-\ell^+\ell^-$ decays ($\ell=e,\,μ$). In this paper we improve our calculation of the $WP^-γ^*$ vertex by including flavour symmetry breaking effects in the framework of the Resonance Chiral Theory. We impose QCD short-distance behaviour to constrain most parameters and data on the $π^-e^+e^-$ spectrum reported by Belle to fix the remaining free ones. As a result, improved predictions for the branching ratios and hadronic/leptonic spectra are reported, in good agreement with observations. Analogous calculations for the strangeness-changing $τ^- \to ν_τK^-\ell^+\ell^-$ transitions are reported for the first time. Albeit one expects the $m_{πμ^+μ^-}$ spectrum to be measured in Belle-II and the observables with $\ell=e$ can be improved, it is rather unlikely that the $K$ channels can be measured due to the suppression factor $|V_{ud}/V_{us}|^2=0.05$.

Lepton flavor violation in the Littlest Higgs Model with T parity realizing an inverse seesaw

We study lepton flavor violation (LFV) within the Littlest Higgs Model with T parity (LHT) realizing an inverse seesaw (ISS) mechanism of type I. With respect to the traditional LHT, there appear new $\mathcal{O}$(\textcolor{black}{10} TeV) Majorana neutrinos, driving LFV. For $τ\to\ell\ell'\bar{\ell}"$ (including wrong-sign, $\ell=e, μ$) decays and $μ\to e$ conversion in Ti, we get typical rates only one order of magnitude below present bounds ($\ell\to\ell'γ$ can reach the current upper limit) and for $Z\to\barτ\ell$, $μ\to e e \bar{e}$ and conversion in Au, results are within two orders of magnitude from present limits. Correlations among modes are drastically different to the traditional LHT and other models, which would ease the confrontation of this scenario to eventual measurements of LFV processes involving charged leptons.

Pion and Kaon box contribution to $a_μ^{\text{HLbL}}$

We present an evaluation of the $π^\pm$ and $K^\pm$ box contributions to the hadronic light-by-light piece of the muon's anomalous magnetic moment, $a_μ$. The calculation of the corresponding electromagnetic form factors (EFFs) is performed within a Dyson-Schwinger equations (DSE) approach to quantum chromodynamics. These form factors are calculated in the so-called rainbow-ladder (RL) truncation, following two different evaluation methods and, subsequently, in a further improved approximation scheme which incorporates meson cloud effects. The results are mutually consistent, indicating that in the domain of relevance for $a_μ$ the obtained EFFs are practically equivalent. Our analysis yields the combined estimates of $a_μ^{π^\pm-box}=-(15.6\pm 0.2)\times 10^{-11}$ and $a_μ^{K^\pm-\text{box}}=-(0.48\pm 0.02)\times 10^{-11}$, in full agreement with results previously obtained within the DSE formalism and other contemporary estimates.

Flavor violating muon decay into an electron and a light gauge boson

We analyze the flavor violating muon decay $μ\rightarrow eχ$, where $χ$ is a massive gauge boson, with emphasis in the regime where $χ$ is ultralight. We first study this process from an effective field theory standpoint in terms of form factors. We then present two explicit models where $μ\rightarrow eχ$ is generated at tree level and at the one-loop level. We also comment on the prospects of observing the process $μ\rightarrow eχ$ in view of the current limits on $μ\rightarrow 3e$ from the SINDRUM collaboration.

Axial-vector exchange contribution to the hadronic light-by-light piece of the muon anomalous magnetic moment

In this work we study the axial contributions to the hadronic light-by-light piece of the muon anomalous magnetic moment using the framework of resonance chiral theory. As a result, we obtain $a_μ^{\textrm{HLbL};A} = \left(0.8^{+3.5}_{-0.1}\right)\cdot 10^{-11}$, that might suggest a smaller value than most recent calculations, underlining the need of future work along this direction. In particular, we find that our results depend critically on the asymptotic behavior of the form factors, and as such, emphasizes the relevance of future experiments for large photon virtualities. In addition, we present general results regarding the involved axial form factors description, comprehensively examining (and relating) the current approaches, that shall be of general interest.

Effective field theory analysis of dark matter-standard model interactions with spin one mediators

We analyze interactions between dark matter and standard model particles with spin one mediators in an effective field theory framework. In this paper, we are considering dark particles masses in the range from a few MeV to the mass of the $Z$ boson. We use bounds from different experiments: $Z$ invisible decay width, relic density, direct detection experiments, and indirect detection limits from the search of gamma-ray emissions and positron fluxes. We obtain solutions corresponding to operators with antisymmetric tensor mediators that fulfill all those requirements within our approach.

Effective-field theory analysis of the $τ^{-}\to K^{-}(η^{(\prime)},K^{0}) ν_τ$ decays

We analyze the decays $τ^-\to K^-(η^{(\prime)},K^0) ν_τ$ within an effective field theory that includes the most general interactions between Standard Model fields up to dimension six, assuming left-handed neutrinos. In particular, we examine different interesting phenomenological observables i.e. decay spectra and branching ratio, Dalitz plot distributions and the forward-backward asymmetry, to explore the sensitivity of the corresponding decays to the effects of non-standard interactions. A controlled theoretical input on the Standard Model hadronic form factors, based on chiral symmetry, dispersion relations, data and asymptotic QCD properties, has allowed us to set bounds on the New Physics scalar and tensor effective couplings using the measured branching ratios. These are found to be in line with the findings of our series of previous analyses of two-meson tau decays and less precise than the constraints obtained from semileptonic kaon decays. In order to set stringent limits on these couplings, we will use all available experimental data of all possible di-meson tau decays. This is our next step plan, that we hope to be of interest for future experimental analyses of these decays.

Exclusive hadronic tau decays as probes of non-SM interactions

We perform a global analysis of exclusive hadronic tau decays into one and two mesons using the low-energy limit of the Standard Model Effective Field Theory up to dimension six, assuming left-handed neutrinos. A controlled theoretical input on the Standard Model hadronic form factors, based on chiral symmetry, dispersion relations, data and asymptotic QCD properties, has allowed us to set bounds on the New Physics effective couplings using the present experimental data. Our results highlight the importance of semileptonic $τ$ decays in complementing the traditional low-energy probes, such nuclear $β$ decays or semileptonic pion and kaon decays, and the high-energy measurements at LHC scales. This makes yet another reason for considering hadronic tau decays as golden modes at Belle-II.

$H\to \ell\ell'$ in the Simplest Little Higgs Model

Little Higgs Models are promising constructs to solve the hierarchy problem affecting the Higgs boson mass for generic new physics. However, their preservation of lepton universality forbids them to account for the $H\toτμ$ CMS hint and at the same time respect (as they do) the severe limits on $H\toμe$ inherited from the non-observation of $μ\to eγ$. We compute the predictions of the Simplest Little Higgs Model for the $H\to \ell\ell'$ decays and conclude that the measurement of any of these decays at LHC (even with a much smaller rate than currently hinted) would, under reasonable assumptions, disfavor this model. This result is consistent with our earlier observation of very suppressed lepton flavor violating semileptonic tau decays within this model.

Predictions on the second-class current decays $τ^{-}\toπ^{-}η^{(\prime)}ν_τ$

We analyze the second-class current decays $τ^{-}\toπ^{-}η^{(\prime)}ν_τ$ in the framework of Chiral Perturbation Theory with resonances. Taking into account $π^{0}$-$η$-$η^{\prime}$ mixing, the $π^{-}η^{(\prime)}$ vector form factor is extracted, in a model-independent way, using existing data on the $π^{-}π^{0}$ one. For the participant scalar form factor, we have considered different parameterizations ordered according to their increasing fulfillment of analyticity and unitarity constraints. We start with a Breit-Wigner parameterization dominated by the $a_{0}(980)$ scalar resonance and after we include its excited state, the $a_{0}(1450)$. We follow by an elastic dispersion relation representation through the Omnès integral. Then, we illustrate a method to derive a closed-form expression for the $π^{-}η$, $π^{-}η^{\prime}$ (and $K^{-}K^{0}$) scalar form factors in a coupled-channels treatment. Finally, predictions for the branching ratios and spectra are discussed emphasizing the error analysis. An interesting result of this study is that both $τ^{-}\toπ^{-}η^{(\prime)}ν_τ$ decay channels are promising for the soon discovery of second-class currents at Belle-II. We also predict the relevant observables for the partner $η^{(\prime)}_{\ell 3}$ decays, which are extremely suppressed in the Standard Model.

Towards the (Mexican) discovery of second class currents at Belle-II

Within the SM, the yet unmeasured $τ^-\toπ^-η^{(\prime)}ν_τ$ decays are predicted as a suppressed, isospin-violating effect with branching ratios $\lesssim\mathcal{O}(10^{-5})$. However, they can also proceed through other mechanisms (such as charged Higgs exchange) at comparable rates. This has motivated several studies of the corresponding QCD predictions for these second class current processes. In this contribution we discuss the prospects for the discovery of these decays at Belle-II emphasizing the Mexican involvement in this project. Our branching ratio prediction $\sim1.7\cdot10^{-5}$ (decay channel with an $η$ meson) is well within the reach of Belle-II. The branching fraction for the decay channel with an $η^\prime$ meson is expected to be between one and two orders of magnitude more suppressed.

Consistent high-energy constraints in the anomalous QCD sector

The anomalous <VVP> Green function and related form-factors (pi^0 to gamma^* gamma^* and tau^- to X^- nu_tau vector form-factors, with X^-=(KKpi)^-, phi^- gamma, (phi V)^-) are analyzed in this letter in the large-N_C limit. Within the single (vector and pseudoscalar) resonance approximation and the context of Resonance Chiral Theory, we show that all these observables over-determine in a consistent way a unique set of compatible high-energy constraints for the resonance couplings. This result is in agreement with analogous relations found in the even intrinsic-parity sector of QCD like, e.g., F_V^2 = 3 F^2. The antisymmetric tensor formalism is considered for the spin-one resonance fields. Finally, we have also worked out and provide here the relation between the two bases of odd intrinsic-parity Lagrangian operators commonly employed in the literature.

Failure of Breit-Wigner and success of dispersive descriptions of the τ^-\to K^-ην_τdecays

The τ^-\to K^-ην_τdecays have been studied using Chiral Perturbation Theory extended by including resonances as active fields. We have found that the treatment of final state interactions is crucial to provide a good description of the data. The Breit-Wigner approximation does not resum them and neglects the real part of the corresponding chiral loop functions, which violates analyticity and leads to a failure in the confrontation with the data. On the contrary, its resummation by means of an Omnès-like exponentiation of through a dispersive representation provides a successful explanation of the measurements. These results illustrate the fact that Breit-Wigner parametrizations of hadronic data, although simple and easy to handle, lack a link with the underlying strong interaction theory and should be avoided. As a result of our analysis we determine the properties of the K*(1410) resonance with a precision competitive to its traditional extraction using τ^-\to (Kπ)^-ν_τdecays, albeit the much limited statistics accumulated for the τ^-\to K^-ην_τchannel. We also predict the soon discovery of the τ^-\to K^-η'ν_τdecays.

Lightest pseudoscalar exchange contribution to light-by-light scattering piece of the muon g-2

Lightest pseudoscalar (P= pi^0, eta, eta') exchange contribution to the light-by-light (LbL) scattering piece of the muon anomaly, a_mu=(g_mu-2)/2, has been evaluated using a resonance chiral Lagrangian (RχL). Best description of pion transition form-factor (TFF) data is obtained with only tiny violations of one of the relations in the minimal consistent set of short-distance constraints on the anomalous RχL couplings. eta^{(')} TFF, predicted in terms of the pi TFF and the eta-eta^' mixing, are in good agreement with measurements. With this input, we obtain a_mu^{P,LbL} = (10.47\pm0.54)x10^-10, consistent with the reference determinations in the literature, albeit with smaller error.

Prospects for discovery of the τ^- \to π^- \ell^+ \ell^- ν_τdecays

We study the phenomenology of the τ^- \to π^- ν_τ\ell^+ \ell^- decays (\ell = e, μ), predicting the respective branching ratios and di-lepton invariant-mass spectra. In addition to the model-independent (QED) contributions, we investigate the structure-dependent (SD) terms, encoding features of the hadronization of QCD currents. The relevant form factors are evaluated by supplementing Chiral Perturbation Theory with the inclusion of the lightest (axial-)vector resonance multiplet as dynamical fields. The Lagrangian couplings are fully predicted requiring the known QCD asymptotic behavior to the relevant Green functions and associated form factors in the limit of an infinite number of colours. As a consequence we predict that the τ^- \to π^- ν_τe^+ e^- decays should be discovered soon while this is not granted for the \ell = μcase.

Resonance Chiral Lagrangians and alternative approaches to hadronic tau decays

Exclusive semi-leptonic decays of the tau lepton offer a clean probe to study the hadronization of QCD currents in its non-perturbative regime and learn about resonance dynamics, which drives strong interactions in these processes. In this theory outlook, I will use the simplest non-trivial di-pion tau decays to illustrate briefly recent theoretical progress on these analyses and their comparison to data.

Dispersive analysis of $τ^-\toπ^-π^0ν_τ$ Belle data

We analyse Belle data on the decay $τ^- \to π^- π^0 ν_τ$ using a dispersive representation of the vector form factor which is consistent with chiral symmetry and preserves analyticity and unitarity exactly. We fit the unknown theoretical parameters from the data, determining the values of the related low-energy observables $\left\langle r^2\right\rangle^π_V$ and $c_V^π$. The implementation of isospin breaking effects is also discussed.

Hadronic and radiative decays of the tau lepton

This PhD thesis studies some hadronic and radiative decays of the tau lepton using a Chiral Lagrangian including resonance fields. After a theoretical introduction, the decays to the $(πππ)^-$, $(KKπ)^-$ and $η^{(\prime)} π^- π^0$ hadronic states and $τ\to (π/K)^- γν_tau$ are analysed. Some material, which was not included in the corresponding references, is also discussed: The structure functions analysis for the 3 pion modes, the differential decay width as a function of the two-particle invariant masses in the considered three-meson modes and a simplified study of the $τ\to$η^{(\prime)} π^- π^0 ν_tau$ processes within a single-angle mixing scheme for the $η$ and $η^\prime$ mesons.

Resonance Chiral Lagrangian analysis of $τ^- \to η^{(\prime)} π^- π^0 ν_τ$ decays

The hadronization structure of $τ^- \to ηπ^- π^0 ν_τ$ decays is analyzed using Chiral Perturbation Theory with resonances, considering only the contribution of the lightest meson resonances at leading order in the $1/N_C$ expansion. After imposing the asymptotic behavior of vector spectral functions ruled by QCD, unknown effective couplings are determined by fitting the $τ^- \to ηπ^- π^0 ν_τ$ branching ratio and decay spectrum to recent data. Predictions for the partner decay $τ^- \to η^\prime π^- π^0 ν_τ$ and the low-energy behavior of the cross section $σ(e^+e^-\to ηπ^+π^-)$ are also discussed.

One meson radiative tau decays

We have studied the one meson radiative tau decays: tau- -> nu(tau) pi-(K-) gamma, computing the structure dependent contributions within a Lagrangian approach based on the large-N(C) limit of QCD that ensures the proper low-energy limit dictated by chiral symmetry. Upon imposing the short-distance QCD constraints to the form-factors we are able to predict without any free parameter the structure dependent radiation and, therefore, the relevant observables for the decay tau- -> nu(tau) pi- gamma: the photon energy spectrum, the invariant mass spectrum of the meson-photon system and the integrated decay rate. We also discuss the remaining uncertainties in these observables for the tau- -> nu(tau) K- gamma decay. According to our results, the present facilities could detect these rare decays for the first time in the near future allowing for a stringent test of our predictions.

$τ^-\toπ^-γν_τ$ as a source of background on the Lepton Flavour Violating decay $τ^-\toμ^-γ$

We calculate the decay of $τ^-\toπ^-γν_τ$ in the framework of Resonance Chiral Theory ($RχT$). By demanding the high energy constraints from QCD on the related form factors, we could predict the various physical observables of $τ^-\toπ^-γν_τ$ without any free parameter. Our results show that for a realistic cut on the photon energy (around $100$ MeV) this mode gives a branching ratio of roughly $0.1%$ that should have already been detected at the heavy-flavour factories. Another interesting subject we have studied based on our calculation of the decay $τ^-\toπ^-γν_τ$ is the experimental background estimation of the lepton flavour violation process $τ^- \to μ^- γ$. We point out that although the description of radiation that PHOTOS provides -which has been used by BaBar and Belle collaborations to estimate this source of background- is in excellent agreement with the theoretical expectations in the low energy region in $τ^-\toπ^-γν_τ$ decay, this is not the case in the high energy region, precisely where it is easier that this decay mimics the process $τ^-\toμ^-γ$.

Hadronic matrix elements for TAUOLA: 3 pi and KKpi channels

We emphasize that the motivation for including our hadronic matrix elements in TAUOLA is not only theoretical. We also show that our expressions describe better the tau to 3pi ALEPH data and are able to fit BABAR data on the isovector component of e^+e^- -> KKpi. The theoretical foundations of our framework are the large-N_C limit of QCD, the chiral structure exhibited at low energies and the proper asymptotic behaviour, ruled by QCD, that is demanded to the associated form factors.

Hadronization in tau -> K K pi nu_tau decays

Hadronization in tau -> K K pi nu_tau decays is driven by both vector and axial-vector currents that we study, guided by the following principles: The 1/N_C expansion -worked out at leading order, considering only the contribution of the lightest spin one resonances-, approximate chiral symmetry at low energies and the appropriate asymptotic behaviour we demand to the associated form factors. All these features are implemented in the resonance theory. Most of its couplings are determined by imposing the short-distance requirements of vector and axial-vector spectral functions within QCD. We plan to improve our prediction of the hadronic spectra using recently available experimental data.

Improving the Hadronization of QCD currents in TAUOLA and PHOKHARA

We present our study of the hadronization structure of both vector and axial-vector currents leading to decays of the tau into two kaons and a pion. The cornerstones of our framework are the large-N_C limit of QCD, the chiral structure exhibited at low energies and the proper asymptotic behaviour, ruled by QCD, that is demanded to the associated form factors. The couplings of the theory are mostly constrained by this procedure and upon the analysis of BaBar data on e^+e^- -> KK pi we are able to predict the hadronic spectra.

Hadronic decays of the tau lepton into K K pion modes within Resonance Chiral Theory

Tau decays into hadrons have a twofold interest: On the one hand, they are a clean environment for studying the hadronization of the left-handed current of QCD, while, on the other side, provide relevant dynamical information of the resonances that mediate these processes. Within an effective field theory-like framework, namely Resonance Chiral Theory, we analyse the decays ot the tau into K K pion modes and compare the results with CLEO and BaBar data. In this way, we provide bounds on the couplings entering our Lagrangian and predict the corresponding spectral functions. As a main result -and contrary to the bulk of theoretical studies and experimental analyses- we find vector current dominance on these decays.
