Difference of mutant knot invariants and their differential expansion

We evaluate the differences of HOMFLY-PT invariants for pairs of mutant knots colored with representations of $SL(N)$, which are large enough to distinguish between them. These mutant pairs include the pretzel mutants, which require at least the representation, labeled by the Young diagram $[4,2]$. We discuss the differential expansion for the differences, it is non-trivial in the case of mutants, which have the non-zero defect. The most effective technical tool, in this case, turns out to be the standard Reshetikhin-Turaev approach.

Stuckelberg SUSY QED and Infrared Problem

We review gauge invariant $\mathcal N =1$ supersymmetric massive $U(1)$ gauge theory coupled to matter and Stuckelberg superfields. We focus on the leading order self energy and vertex correction to the matter field in the massless limit of both the $U(1)$ vector superfield and the Stuckelberg superfield. We explicitly verify that the theory is infrared divergence free in the massless limit. Hence the Stuckelberg mechanism appears to be the efficient route to handle infrared divergences seen in supersymmetric quantum electrodynamics.Since these additional particles have very small masses they can serve as dark matter candidates through `Ultralight particles' mechanism.

Time-dependence of the holographic spectral function: Diverse routes to thermalisation

We develop a new method for computing the holographic retarded propagator in generic (non-)equilibrium states using the state/geometry map. We check that our method reproduces the thermal spectral function given by the Son-Starinets prescription. The time-dependence of the spectral function of a relevant scalar operator is studied in a class of non-equilibrium states. The latter are represented by AdS-Vaidya geometries with an arbitrary parameter characterising the timescale for the dual state to transit from an initial thermal equilibrium to another due to a homogeneous quench. For long quench duration, the spectral function indeed follows the thermal form at the instantaneous effective temperature adiabatically, although with a slight initial time delay and a bit premature thermalisation. At shorter quench durations, several new non-adiabatic features appear: (i) time-dependence of the spectral function is seen much before than that in the effective temperature (advanced time-dependence), (ii) a big transfer of spectral weight to frequencies greater than the initial temperature occurs at an intermediate time (kink formation) and (iii) new peaks with decreasing amplitudes but in greater numbers appear even after the effective temperature has stabilised (persistent oscillations). We find four broad routes to thermalisation for lower values of spatial momenta. At higher values of spatial momenta, kink formations and persistent oscillations are suppressed, and thermalisation time decreases. The general thermalisation pattern is globally top-down, but a closer look reveals complexities.

Colored HOMFLY polynomials of knots presented as double fat diagrams

Many knots and links in S^3 can be drawn as gluing of three manifolds with one or more four-punctured S^2 boundaries. We call these knot diagrams as double fat graphs whose invariants involve only the knowledge of the fusion and the braiding matrices of four-strand braids. Incorporating the properties of four-point conformal blocks in WZNW models, we conjecture colored HOMFLY polynomials for these double fat graphs where the color can be rectangular or non-rectangular representation. With the recent work of Gu-Jockers, the fusion matrices for the non-rectangular [21] representation, the first which involves multiplicity is known. We verify our conjecture by comparing with the [21] colored HOMFLY of many knots, obtained as closure of three braids. The conjectured form is computationally very effective leading to writing [21]-colored HOMFLY polynomials for many pretzel type knots and non-pretzel type knots. In particular, we find class of pretzel mutants which are distinguished and another class of mutants which cannot be distinguished by [21] representation. The difference between the [21]-colored HOMFLY of two mutants seems to have a general form, with A-dependence completely defined by the old conjecture due to Morton and Cromwell. In particular, we check it for an entire multi-parametric family of mutant knots evaluated using evolution method.

Non-Zero $θ_{13}$ and $δ_{CP}$ in a Neutrino Mass Model with $A_4$ Symmetry

In this paper, we consider a neutrino mass model based on $A_4$ symmetry. The spontaneous symmetry breaking in this model is chosen to obtain tribimaximal mixing in the neutrino sector. We introduce $Z_2 \times Z_2$ invariant perturbations in this model which can give rise to acceptable values of $θ_{13}$ and $δ_{CP}$. Perturbation in the charged lepton sector alone can lead to viable values of $θ_{13}$, but cannot generate $δ_{CP}$. Perturbation in the neutrino sector alone can lead to acceptable $θ_{13}$ and maximal CP violation. By adjusting the magnitudes of perturbations in both sectors, it is possible to obtain any value of $δ_{CP}$.

Backreaction effects due to matter coupled higher derivative gravity

AdS-hydrodynamics has proven to be a useful tool for obtaining transport coefficients observed in the collective flow of strongly coupled fluids like quark gluon plasma (QGP). Particularly, the ratio of shear viscosity to entropy density ${η/ s}$ obtained from elliptic flow measurements can be matched with the computation done in the dual gravity theory. The experimentally observed temperature dependence of ${η/ s}$ requires the study of scalar matter coupled AdS gravity including higher derivative curvature corrections. We obtain the backreaction to the metric for such a matter coupled AdS gravity in $D$-dimensional spacetime due to the higher derivative curvature corrections. Then, we present the backreaction corrections to shear-viscosity $η$ and entropy density $s$.

Colored Kauffman Homology and Super-A-polynomials

We study the structural properties of colored Kauffman homologies of knots. Quadruple-gradings play an essential role in revealing the differential structure of colored Kauffman homology. Using the differential structure, the Kauffman homologies carrying the symmetric tensor products of the vector representation for the trefoil and the figure-eight are determined. In addition, making use of relations from representation theory, we also obtain the HOMFLY homologies colored by rectangular Young tableaux with two rows for these knots. Furthermore, the notion of super-A-polynomials is extended in order to encompass two-parameter deformations of PSL(2,C) character varieties.

Is toric duality a Seiberg-like duality in (2+1)-d ?

We show that not all $(2+1)$ dimensional toric phases are Seiberg-like duals. Particularly, we work out superconformal indices for the toric phases of Fanos ${\cal{C}}_3$, ${\cal{C}}_5$ and ${\cal{B}}_2$. We find that the indices for the two toric phases of Fano ${\cal{B}}_2$ do not match, which implies that they are not Seiberg-like duals. We also take the route of acting Seiberg-like duality transformation on toric quiver Chern-Simons theories to obtain dual quivers. We study two examples and show that Seiberg-like dual quivers are not always toric quivers.

Trivalent graphs, volume conjectures and character varieties

The generalized volume conjecture and the AJ conjecture (a.k.a. the quantum volume conjecture) are extended to $U_q(\fraksl_2)$ colored quantum invariants of the theta and tetrahedron graph. The $\SL(2,\bC)$ character variety of the fundamental group of the complement of a trivalent graph with $E$ edges in $S^3$ is a Lagrangian subvariety of the Hitchin moduli space over the Riemann surface of genus $g=E/3+1$. For the theta and tetrahedron graph, we conjecture that the configuration of the character variety is locally determined by large color asymptotics of the quantum invariants of the trivalent graph in terms of complex Fenchel-Nielsen coordinates. Moreover, the $q$-holonomic difference equation of the quantum invariants provides the quantization of the character variety.

Partial resolution of complex cones over Fano ${\cal{B}}$

In our recent paper arXiv:1108.2387, we systematized inverse algorithm to obtain quiver gauge theory living on the M2-branes probing the singularities of special kind of Calabi-Yau four-folds which were complex cones over toric Fano $\mathbb{P}^3$, ${\cal{B}}_1$, ${\cal{B}}_2$, ${\cal{B}}_3$. These quiver gauge theories cannot be given a dimer tiling presentation. We use the method of partial resolution to show that the toric data of $\mathbb{C}^4$ and Fano $\mathbb{P}^3$ can be embedded inside the toric data of Fano ${\cal{B}}$ theories. This method indirectly justfies that the two node quiver Chern-Simons theories corresponding to $\mathbb{C}^4$, Fano $\mathbb{P}^3$ and their orbifolds can be obtained by higgsing matter fields of the three node parent quiver corresponding to Fano ${\cal{B}}_1$, ${\cal{B}}_2$, ${\cal{B}}_3$, ${\cal{B}}_4$ three-folds.

SU(N) quantum Racah coefficients & non-torus links

It is well-known that the SU(2) quantum Racah coefficients or the Wigner $6j$ symbols have a closed form expression which enables the evaluation of any knot or link polynomials in SU(2) Chern-Simons field theory. Using isotopy equivalence of SU(N) Chern-Simons functional integrals over three balls with one or more $S^2$ boundaries with punctures, we obtain identities to be satisfied by the SU(N) quantum Racah coefficients. This enables evaluation of the coefficients for a class of SU(N) representations. Using these coefficients, we can compute the polynomials for some non-torus knots and two-component links. These results are useful for verifying conjectures in topological string theory.

Super-A-polynomials for Twist Knots

We conjecture formulae of the colored superpolynomials for a class of twist knots $K_p$ where p denotes the number of full twists. The validity of the formulae is checked by applying differentials and taking special limits. Using the formulae, we compute both the classical and quantum super-A-polynomial for the twist knots with small values of p. The results support the categorified versions of the generalized volume conjecture and the quantum volume conjecture. Furthermore, we obtain the evidence that the Q-deformed A-polynomials can be identified with the augmentation polynomials of knot contact homology in the case of the twist knots.

Inverse algorithm and M2-brane theories

Recent paper arXiv:1103.0553 studied the quiver gauge theories on coincident $M2$ branes on a singular toric Calabi-Yau 4-folds which are complex cone over toric Fano 3-folds. There are 18 toric Fano manifolds but only 14 toric Fano were obtained from the forward algorithm. We attempt to systematize the inverse algorithm which helps in obtaining quiver gauge theories on $M2$-branes from the toric data of the Calabi-Yau 4-folds. In particular, we obtain quiver gauge theories on coincident $M2$-branes corresponding to the remaining 4 toric Fano 3-folds. We observe that these quiver gauge theories cannot be given a dimer tiling presentation.

Composite Invariants and Unoriented Topological String Amplitudes

Sinha and Vafa had conjectured that the $SO$ Chern-Simons gauge theory on $S^3$ must be dual to the closed $A$-model topological string on the orientifold of a resolved conifold. Though the Chern-Simons free energy could be rewritten in terms of the topological string amplitudes providing evidence for the conjecture, we needed a novel idea in the context of Wilson loop observables to extract cross-cap $c=0,1,2$ topological amplitudes. Recent paper of Marino based on the work of Morton and Ryder has clearly shown that the composite representation placed on the knots and links plays a crucial role to rewrite the topological string cross-cap $c=0$ amplitude. This enables extracting the unoriented cross-cap $c=2$ topological amplitude. In this paper, we have explicitly worked out the composite invariants for some framed knots and links carrying composite representations in U(N) Chern-Simons theory. We have verified generalised Rudolph's theorem, which relates composite invariants to the invariants in SO(N) Chern-Simons theory, and also verified Marino's conjectures on the integrality properties of the topological string amplitudes. For some framed knots and links, we have tabulated the BPS integer invariants for cross-cap $c=0$, $c=1$ and $c=2$ giving the open-string topological amplitude on the orientifold of the resolved conifold.

A Note on Dimer Models and D-brane Gauge Theories

The connection between quiver gauge theories and dimer models has been well studied. It is known that the matter fields of the quiver gauge theories can be represented using the perfect matchings of the corresponding dimer model. We conjecture that a subset of perfect matchings associated with an internal point in the toric diagram is sufficient to give information about the charge matrix of the quiver gauge theory. Further, we perform explicit computations on some aspects of partial resolutions of toric singularities using dimer models. We analyse these with graph theory techniques, using the perfect matchings of orbifolds of the form $\BC^3/Γ$, where the orbifolding group $Γ$ may be noncyclic. Using these, we study the construction of the superpotential of gauge theories living on D-branes which probe these singularities, including the case where one or more adjoint fields are present upon partial resolution. Applying a combination of open and closed string techniques to dimer models, we also study some aspects of their symmetries.

Spectrum of rotating black holes and its implications for Hawking radiation

The reduced phase space formalism for quantising black holes has recently been extended to find the area and angular momentum spectra of four dimensional Kerr black holes. We extend this further to rotating black holes in all spacetime dimensions and show that although as in four dimensions the spectrum is discrete, it is not equispaced in general. As a result, Hawking radiation spectra from these black holes are continuous, as opposed to the discrete spectrum predicted for four dimensional black holes.

U(N) Framed Links, Three-Manifold Invariants, and Topological Strings

Three-manifolds can be obtained through surgery of framed links in $S^3$. We study the meaning of surgery procedures in the context of topological strings. We obtain U(N) three-manifold invariants from U(N) framed link invariants in Chern-Simons theory on $S^3$. These three-manifold invariants are proportional to the trivial connection contribution to the Chern-Simons partition function on the respective three-manifolds. Using the topological string duality conjecture, we show that the large $N$ expansion of U(N) Chern-Simons free energies on three-manifolds, obtained from some class of framed links, have a closed string expansion. These expansions resemble the closed string $A$-model partition functions on Calabi-Yau manifolds with one Kahler parameter. We also determine Gopakumar-Vafa integer coefficients and Gromov-Witten rational coefficients corresponding to Chern-Simons free energies on some three-manifolds.

Boosts, Schwarzschild Black Holes and Absorption cross-sections in M theory

$D$ dimensional neutral black strings wrapped on a circle are related to $(D-1)$ dimensional charged black holes by boosts. We show that the boost has to be performed in the covering space and the boosted coordinate has to be compactified on a circle with a Lorentz contracted radius. Using this fact we show that the transition between Schwarzschild black holes to black p-branes observed recently in M theory is the well-known black hole- black string transition viewed in a boosted frame. In a similar way the correspondence point where an excited string state goes over to a neutral black hole is mapped exactly to the correspondence point for black p-branes. In terms of the $p$ brane quantities the equation of state for an excited string state becomes identical to that of a 3+1 dimensional massless gas for all $p$. Finally, we show how boosts can be used to relate Hawking radiation rates. Using the known microscopic derivation of absorption by extremal 3-branes and near-extremal 5D holes with three large charges we provide a microscopic derivation of absorption of 0-branes by seven and five dimensional Schwarzschild black holes in a certain regime.

Construction of Yangian algebra through a multi-deformation parameter dependent rational $R$-matrix

Yang-Baxterising a braid group representation associated with multideformed version of $GL_{q}(N)$ quantum group and taking the corresponding $q\rightarrow 1$ limit, we obtain a rational $R$-matrix which depends on $\left ( 1+ {N(N-1) \over 2} \right ) $ number of deformation parameters. By using such rational $R$-matrix subsequently we construct a multiparameter dependent extension of $Y(gl_N)$ Yangian algebra and find that this extended algebra leads to a modification of usual asymptotic condition on monodromy matrix $T(λ)$, at $ λ\rightarrow \infty $ limit. Moreover, it turns out that, there exists a nonlinear realisation of this extended algebra through the generators of original $Y(gl_N)$ algebra. Such realisation interestingly provides a novel $\left ( 1 + { N(N-1) \over 2 } \right ) $ number of deformation parameter dependent coproduct for standard $Y(gl_N)$ algebra.
