Anisotropic singular Neumann equations with unbalanced growth

We consider a nonlinear parametric Neumann problem driven by the anisotropic $(p,q)$-Laplacian and a reaction which exhibits the combined effects of a singular term and of a parametric superlinear perturbation. We are looking for positive solutions. Using a combination of topological and variational tools together with suitable truncation and comparison techniques, we prove a bifurcation-type result describing the set of positive solutions as the positive parameter $λ$ varies. We also show the existence of minimal positive solutions $u_λ^*$ and determine the monotonicity and continuity properties of the map $λ\mapsto u_λ^*$.

Existence of solutions for singular double phase problems via the Nehari manifold method

In this paper we study quasilinear elliptic equations driven by the double phase operator and a right-hand side which has the combined effect of a singular and of a parametric term. Based on the fibering method by using the Nehari manifold we are going to prove the existence of at least two weak solutions for such problems when the parameter is sufficiently small.

Existence and nonexistence of positive solutions for singular (p,q)-equations with superdiffusive perturbation

We consider a nonlinear Dirichlet problem driven by the $(p,q)$-Laplacian and with a reaction which is parametric and exhibits the combined effects of a singular term and of a superdiffusive one. We prove an existence and nonexistence result for positive solutions depending on the value of the parameter $λ\in \overset{\circ}{\mathbb{R}}_+=(0,+\infty)$.

On the logistic equation for the fractional p-Laplacian

We consider a Dirichlet type problem for a nonlinear, nonlocal equation driven by the degenerate fractional p-Laplacian, with a logistic type reaction depending on a positive parameter. In the subdiffusive and equidiffusive cases, we prove existence and uniqueness of the positive solution when the parameter lies in convenient intervals. In the superdiffusive case, we establish a bifurcation result. A new strong comparison result, of independent interest, plays a crucial role in the proof of such bifurcation result.

Parametric superlinear double phase problems with singular term and critical growth on the boundary

In this paper we study quasilinear elliptic equations driven by the double phase operator along with a reaction that has a singular and a parametric superlinear term and with a nonlinear Neumann boundary condition of critical growth. Based on a new equivalent norm for Musielak-Orlicz Sobolev spaces and the Nehari manifold along with the fibering method we prove the existence of at least two weak solutions provided the parameter is sufficiently small.

Positive solutions for singular anisotropic $(p,q)$-equations

In this paper we consider a Dirichlet problem driven by an anisotropic $(p,q)$-differential operator and a parametric reaction having the competing effects of a singular term and of a superlinear perturbation. We prove a bifurcation-type theorem describing the changes in the set of positive solutions as the parameter moves. Moreover, we prove the existence of a minimal positive solution and determine the monotonicity and continuity properties of the minimal solution map.

(p,q)-Equations with singular and concave convex nonlinearities

We consider a nonlinear Dirichlet problem driven by the $(p,q)$-Laplacian with $1<q<p$. The reaction is parametric and exhibits the competing effects of a singular term and of concave and convex nonlinearities. We are looking for positive solutions and prove a bifurcation-type theorem describing in a precise way the set of positive solutions as the parameter varies. Moreover, we show the existence of a minimal positive solution and we study it as a function of the parameter.

Anisotropic equations with indefinite potential and competing nonlinearities

We consider a nonlinear Dirichlet problem driven by a variable exponent $p$-Laplacian plus an indefinite potential term. The reaction has the competing effects of a parametric concave (sublinear) term and of a convex (superlinear) perturbation (an anisotropic concave-convex problem). We prove a bifurcation-type theorem describing the changes in the set of positive solutions as the positive parameter $λ$ varies. Also, we prove the existence of minimal positive solutions.

Nonlinear nonhomogeneous singular problems

We consider a nonlinear Dirichlet problem driven by a nonhomogeneous differential operator with a growth of order $(p-1)$ near $+\infty$ and with a reaction which has the competing effects of a parametric singular term and a $(p-1)$-superlinear perturbation which does not satisfy the usual Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz condition. Using variational tools, together with suitable truncation and strong comparison techniques, we prove a "bifurcation-type" theorem that describes the set of positive solutions as the parameter $λ$ moves on the positive semiaxis. We also show that for every $λ>0$, the problem has a smallest positive solution $u^*_λ$ and we demonstrate the monotonicity and continuity properties of the map $λ\mapsto u^*_λ$.

Nonlinear singular problems with indefinite potential term

We consider a nonlinear Dirichlet problem driven by a nonhomogeneous differential operator plus an indefinite potential. In the reaction we have the competing effects of a singular term and of concave and convex nonlinearities. In this paper the concave term is parametric. We prove a bifurcation-type theorem describing the changes in the set of positive solutions as the positive parameter $λ$ varies. This work continues our research published in arXiv:2004.12583, where $ξ\equiv 0 $ and in the reaction the parametric term is the singular one.

Nonlinear, nonhomogeneous Robin problems with indefinite potential and general reaction

We consider a nonlinear elliptic equation driven by a nonhomogeneous differential operator plus an indefinite potential. On the reaction term we impose conditions only near zero. Using variational methods, together with truncation and perturbation techniques and critical groups, we produce three nontrivial solutions with sign information. In the semilinear case we improve this result by obtaining a second nodal solution for a total of four nontrivial solutions. Finally, under a symmetry condition on the reaction term, we generate a whole sequence of distinct nodal solutions.

Relaxation methods for optimal control problems

We consider a nonlinear optimal control problem with dynamics described by a differential inclusion involving a maximal monotone map $A:\mathbb{R}^N\rightarrow2^{\mathbb{R}^N}$. We do not assume that $D(A)=\mathbb{R}^N$, incorporating in this way systems with unilateral constraints in our framework. We present two relaxation methods. The first one is an outgrowth of the reduction method from the existence theory, while the second method uses Young measures. We show that the two relaxation methods are equivalent and admissible.

preprint2020arXiv

Superlinear perturbations of the eigenvalue problem for the Robin Laplacian plus an indefinite and unbounded potential

We consider a superlinear perturbation of the eigenvalue problem for the Robin Laplacian plus an indefinite and unbounded potential. Using variational tools and critical groups, we show that when $λ$ is close to a nonprincipal eigenvalue, then the problem has seven nontrivial solutions. We provide sign information for six of them.

On a Robin problem with $p$-Laplacian and reaction bounded only from above

The existence of three smooth solutions, one negative, one positive, and one nodal, to a homogeneous Robin problem with $p$-Laplacian and Carathéodory reaction is established. No sub-critical growth condition is taken on. Proofs exploit variational as well as truncation techniques. The case $p=2$ is separately examined, obtaining a further nodal solution via Morse's theory.

Nonlinear nonhomogeneous Dirichlet equations with a superlinear reaction

We consider a nonlinear elliptic Dirichlet equation driven by a nonlinear nonhomogeneous differential operator involving a Carathéodory reaction which is $(p-1)$-superlinear but does not satisfy the Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz condition. First we prove a three-solutions-theorem extending an earlier classical result of Wang (Ann. Inst. H. Poincaré Anal. Non Linéaire 8 (1991), no. 1, 43--57). Subsequently, by imposing additional conditions on the reaction $f(x,\cdot)$, we produce two more nontrivial constant sign solutions and a nodal solution for a total of five nontrivial solutions. In the special case of $(p,2)$-equations we prove the existence of a second nodal solution for a total of six nontrivial solutions given with complete sign information. Finally, we study a nonlinear eigenvalue problem and we show that the problem has at least two nontrivial positive solutions for all parameters $λ>0$ sufficiently small where one solution vanishes in the Sobolev norm as $λ\to 0^+$ and the other one blows up (again in the Sobolev norm) as $λ\to 0^+$.
