Critical properties of the valence-bond-solid transition in lattice quantum electrodynamics

Elucidating the phase diagram of lattice gauge theories with fermionic matter in 2+1 dimensions has become a problem of considerable interest in recent years, motivated by physical problems ranging from chiral symmetry breaking in high-energy physics to fractionalized phases of strongly correlated materials in condensed matter physics. For a sufficiently large number $N_f$ of flavors of four-component Dirac fermions, recent sign-problem-free quantum Monte Carlo studies of lattice quantum electrodynamics (QED$_3$) on the square lattice have found evidence for a continuous quantum phase transition between a power-law correlated conformal QED$_3$ phase and a confining valence-bond-solid phase with spontaneously broken point-group symmetries. The critical continuum theory of this transition was shown to be the $O(2)$ QED$_3$-Gross-Neveu model, equivalent to the gauged Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model, and critical exponents were computed to first order in the large-$N_f$ expansion and the $ε$ expansion. We extend these studies by computing critical exponents to second order in the large-$N_f$ expansion and to four-loop order in the $ε$ expansion below four spacetime dimensions. In the latter context, we also explicitly demonstrate that the discrete $\mathbb{Z}_4$ symmetry of the valence-bond-solid order parameter is dynamically enlarged to a continuous $O(2)$ symmetry at criticality for all values of $N_f$.

Fermion Traces Without Evanescence

We outline the evaluation of $n$-dimensional fermion traces ($n\in\mathbb{N}$) built by products of Dirac-$γ$ matrices suitable for a uniform dimensional continuation. Such a continuation is needed for calculations employing a dimensional regulator whenever intrinsically integer dimensional tensors yield non-vanishing contributions. A prime example for such a tensor is given by $γ_5$ for $n=4$. The main difference between Dimensional Regularization (DREG) and a Dimensionally Continued Regularization (DCREG) is that DCREG does not attempt to lift the algebra to continuous $d$ dimensions ($d\in\mathbb{R}$). As a consequence one has to properly deal with evanescent structures in order to ensure the uniform application of the regulator. In basic steps we identify evanescent structures in fermion traces and show that their proper treatment is crucial for example when calculating the $VVA$ anomaly in four dimensions. We checked that the performed considerations enable the evaluation of Standard Model (SM) $Z$-factors within DCREG up to including three loops.

Irreducible tensor basis and general Fierz relations for Bhabha scattering like amplitudes

We construct an irreducible s- and t-channel tensor basis for Bhabha scattering like amplitudes based on the properties of the underlying Lorentz symmetry in four space-time dimensions. In the given basis the calculation of amplitude contractions like the amplitude square reduces to the contraction of their corresponding coefficient tensors. Further the basis retains the full amplitude information and thus can be applied in off-shell cases. The general Fierz transformations which relate the s- and t-channel basis with each other are obtained. As an example for application we use the basis to calculate the tree-level Bhabha scattering amplitude.

Superconducting quantum criticality of topological surface states at three loops

The semimetal-superconductor quantum phase transition on the two-dimensional (2D) surface of a 3D topological insulator is conjectured to exhibit an emergent $\mathcal{N}=2$ supersymmetry, based on a renormalization group (RG) analysis at one-loop order in the $ε$ expansion. We provide additional support for this conjecture by performing a three-loop RG analysis and showing that the supersymmetric fixed point found at this order survives the extrapolation to 2D. We compute critical exponents to order $ε^3$, obtaining the more accurate value $ν\approx 0.985$ for the correlation length exponent and confirming that the fermion and boson anomalous dimensions remain unchanged beyond one loop, as expected from non-renormalization theorems in supersymmetric theories. We further couple the system to a dynamical $U(1)$ gauge field, and argue that the transition becomes fluctuation-induced first order. We discuss implications of this result for quantum phase transitions between certain symmetry-preserving correlated surface states of 3D topological insulators.

Hyperfine splitting in the bottomonium system on the lattice and in the continuum

The latest experimental measurements of the hyperfine splitting $E_{\rm{hfs}}=M_{Υ(1 S)}-M_{η_b(1 S)}$ done by the Belle collaboration and the perturbative and lattice QCD predictions show a tension with the current extraction within lattice non-relativistic QCD. In this talk we revise the analysis of radiative corrections to the bottomonium hyperfine splitting within lattice non-relativistic QCD at the next-to-leading order. The result of the analysis is in good agreement with the perturbative and lattice QCD result as well as the direct measurement.

Bottom Quark Mass from $Υ$ Sum Rules to ${\cal O}(α_s^3)$

We use the ${\cal O}(α_s^3)$ approximation of the heavy-quark vacuum polarization function in the threshold region to determine the bottom quark mass from nonrelativistic $Υ$ sum rules. We find very good stability and convergence of the perturbative series for the bottom quark mass in $\rm\overline{MS}$ renormalization scheme. Our final result is $\overline{m}_b(\overline{m}_b)=4.169\pm 0.008_{th}\pm 0.002_{α_s}\pm 0.002_{exp}$.

SLAM, a Mathematica interface for SUSY spectrum generators

We present and publish a Mathematica package, which can be used to automatically obtain any numerical MSSM input parameter from SUSY spectrum generators, which follow the SLHA standard, like Spheno, Softsusy, Suseflav or Suspect. The package enables a very comfortable way of numerical evaluations within the MSSM using Mathematica. It implements easy to use predefined high scale and low scale scenarios like mSUGRA or $m_h^{\rm max}$ and if needed enables the user to directly specify the input required by the spectrum generators. In addition it supports an automatic saving and loading of SUSY spectra to and from a SQL data base, avoiding the rerun of a spectrum generator for a known spectrum.

Precision calculations for Higgs-boson production at hadron colliders

The next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) calculation of the effective Higgs gluon coupling $C_1$ for the lightest Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) Higgs boson $h^0$ is presented. Selected numerical results for the total production cross section of $h^0$ via gluon fusion at the LHC within the effective field theory approach are shown in the NNLO approximation.

Supersymmetric next-to-next-to-leading order corrections to Higgs boson production in gluon fusion

We compute the total cross section for the production of a light CP even Higgs boson within the framework of supersymmetric QCD up to next-to-next-to-leading order. Technical subtleties in connection to the evaluation of three-loop Feynman integrals with many mass scales are discussed in detail and explicit results for the counterterms of the evanescent couplings are provided. The new results are applied to several phenomenological scenarios which are in accordance with the recent discovery at the LHC. In a large part of the still allowed parameter space the $K$ factor of the supersymmetric theory is close to the one of the Standard Model. However, for the case where one of the top squarks is light, a deviation of more than 5% in the next-to-next-to-leading order prediction of the cross section can be observed where at the same time the predicted Higgs boson mass has a value of about 125 GeV.

Towards Higgs boson production in gluon fusion to NNLO in the MSSM

We consider the Higgs boson production in the gluon-fusion channel to next-to-next-to-leading order within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. In particular, we present analytical results for the matching coefficient of the effective theory and study its influence on the total production cross section in the limit where the masses of all MSSM particles coincide. For supersymmetric masses below 500 GeV it is possible to find parameters leading to a significant enhancement of the Standard Model cross section, the $K$-factors, however, change only marginally.
