Detecting Inappropriate Messages on Sensitive Topics that Could Harm a Company's Reputation

Not all topics are equally "flammable" in terms of toxicity: a calm discussion of turtles or fishing less often fuels inappropriate toxic dialogues than a discussion of politics or sexual minorities. We define a set of sensitive topics that can yield inappropriate and toxic messages and describe the methodology of collecting and labeling a dataset for appropriateness. While toxicity in user-generated data is well-studied, we aim at defining a more fine-grained notion of inappropriateness. The core of inappropriateness is that it can harm the reputation of a speaker. This is different from toxicity in two respects: (i) inappropriateness is topic-related, and (ii) inappropriate message is not toxic but still unacceptable. We collect and release two datasets for Russian: a topic-labeled dataset and an appropriateness-labeled dataset. We also release pre-trained classification models trained on this data.

Applications of the Morava $K$-theory to algebraic groups

In the present article we discuss an approach to cohomological invariants of algebraic groups over fields of characteristic zero based on the Morava $K$-theories, which are generalized oriented cohomology theories in the sense of Levine--Morel. We show that the second Morava $K$-theory detects the triviality of the Rost invariant and, more generally, relate the triviality of cohomological invariants and the splitting of Morava motives. We describe the Morava $K$-theory of generalized Rost motives, compute the Morava $K$-theory of some affine varieties, and characterize the powers of the fundamental ideal of the Witt ring with the help of the Morava $K$-theory. Besides, we obtain new estimates on torsion in Chow groups of codimensions up to $2^n$ of quadrics from the $(n+2)$-nd power of the fundamental ideal of the Witt ring. We compute torsion in Chow groups of $K(n)$-split varieties with respect to a prime $p$ in all codimensions up to $\frac{p^n-1}{p-1}$ and provide a combinatorial tool to estimate torsion up to codimension $p^n$. An important role in the proof is played by the gamma filtration on Morava $K$-theories, which gives a conceptual explanation of the nature of the torsion. Furthermore, we show that under some conditions the $K(n)$-motive of a smooth projective variety splits if and only if its $K(m)$-motive splits for all $m\le n$.

Motivic decompositions of twisted flag varieties and representations of Hecke-type algebras

Let G be a split semisimple linear algebraic group over a field k0. Let E be a G-torsor over a field extension k of k0. Let h be an algebraic oriented cohomology theory in the sense of Levine-Morel. Consider a twisted form E/B of the variety of Borel subgroups G/B over k. Following the Kostant-Kumar results on equivariant cohomology of flag varieties we establish an isomorphism between the Grothendieck groups of the h-motivic subcategory generated by E/B and the category of finitely generated projective modules of certain Hecke-type algebra H which depends on the root datum of G, on the torsor E and on the formal group law of the theory h. In particular, taking h to be the Chow groups with finite coefficients Fp and E to be a generic G-torsor we prove that all indecomposable submodules of an affine nil-Hecke algebra H of G with coefficients in Fp are isomorphic to each other and correspond to the (non-graded) generalized Rost-Voevodsky motive for (G,p).

Motivic construction of cohomological invariants

Let G be a group of type E8 of compact type over the field of rational numbers, let K be a field of characteristic 0, and q the 5-fold Pfister form which is the sum of 32 squares. J-P. Serre posed in a letter to M. Rost written on June 23, 1999 the following problem: Is it true that G is split over K if and only if q is hyperbolic over K? In the present article we construct a cohomological invariant of degree 5 for groups of type E8 with trivial Rost invariant over any field k of characteristic 0, and putting the field of rational numbers for k answer positively this question of Serre. Aside from that, we show that a variety which possesses a special correspondence of Rost is a norm variety.

Integral motives, relative Krull-Schmidt principle, and Maranda-type theorems

In the present article we investigate properties of the category of the integral Grothendieck-Chow motives over a field. We discuss the Krull-Schmidt principle for integral motives, provide a complete list of the generalized Severi-Brauer varieties with indecomposable integral motive, and exploit a relation between the category of motives of twisted flag varieties and integral $p$-adic representations of finite groups.

On the Brauer group of the product of a torus and a semisimple algebraic group

Let T be a torus (not assumed to be split) over a field F, and denote by $_n{H^{2}_{et}(X,Gm)}$ the subgroup of elements of exponent dividing n in the cohomological Brauer group of a scheme X over the field F. We provide conditions on X and n for which the pull-back homomorphism $_n{H^2_{et}(T,Gm)}\to_n{H^2_{et}(X\times T,Gm)}$ is an isomorphism. We apply this to compute the Brauer group of some reductive groups and of non singular affine quadrics. Apart from this, we investigate the p-torsion of the Azumaya algebra defined Brauer group of a regular affine scheme over a field F of characteristic p>0.

The J-invariant, Tits algebras and Triality

In the present paper we set up a connection between the indices of the Tits algebras of a simple linear algebraic group $G$ and the degree one parameters of its motivic $J$-invariant. Our main technical tool are the second Chern class map and Grothendieck's $γ$-filtration. As an application we recover some known results on the $J$-invariant of quadratic forms of small dimension; we describe all possible values of the $J$-invariant of an algebra with orthogonal involution up to degree 8 and give explicit examples; we establish several relations between the $J$-invariant of an algebra $A$ with orthogonal involution and the $J$-invariant of the corresponding quadratic form over the function field of the Severi-Brauer variety of $A$.

J-invariant of linear algebraic groups

Let G be a linear algebraic group over a field F and X be a projective homogeneous G-variety such that G splits over the function field of X. In the present paper we introduce an invariant of G called J-invariant which characterizes the motivic behaviour of X. This generalizes the respective notion invented by A. Vishik in the context of quadratic forms. As a main application we obtain a uniform proof of all known motivic decompositions of generically split projective homogeneous varieties (Severi-Brauer varieties, Pfister quadrics, maximal orthogonal Grassmannians, G2- and F4-varieties) as well as provide new examples (exceptional varieties of types E6, E7 and E8). We also discuss relations with torsion indices, canonical dimensions and cohomological invariants of the group G.
