Equality of Lyapunov and stability exponents for products of isotropic random matrices

We show that Lyapunov exponents and stability exponents are equal in the case of product of $i.i.d$ isotropic(also known as bi-unitarily invariant) random matrices. We also derive aysmptotic distribution of singular values and eigenvalues of these product random matrices. Moreover, Lyapunov exponents are distinct, unless the random matrices are random scalar multiples of Haar unitary matrices or orthogonal matrices. As a corollary of above result, we show probability that product of $n$ $i.i.d$ real isotropic random matrices has all eigenvalues real goes to one as $n \to \infty$. Also, in the proof of a lemma, we observe that a real (complex) Ginibre matrix can be written as product of a random lower triangular matrix and an independent truncated Haar orthogonal (unitary) matrix.

Hole probabilities for finite and infinite Ginibre ensembles

We study the hole probabilities of the infinite Ginibre ensemble ${\mathcal X}_{\infty}$, a determinantal point process on the complex plane with the kernel $\mathbb K(z,w)= \frac{1}πe^{z\bar w-\frac{1}{2}|z|^2-\frac{1}{2}|w|^2}$ with respect to the Lebesgue measure on the complex plane. Let $U$ be an open subset of open unit disk $\mathbb D$ and ${\mathcal X}_{\infty}(rU)$ denote the number of points of ${\mathcal X}_{\infty}$ that fall in $rU$. Then, under some conditions on $U$, we show that $$ \lim_{r\to \infty}\frac{1}{r^4}\log\mathbb P[\mathcal X_{\infty}(rU)=0]=R_{\emptyset}-R_{U}, $$ where $\emptyset$ is the empty set and $$ R_U:=\inf_{μ\in \mathcal P(U^c)}\left\{\iint \log{\frac{1}{|z-w|}}dμ(z)dμ(w)+\int |z|^2dμ(z) \right\}, $$ $\mathcal P(U^c)$ is the space of all compactly supported probability measures with support in $U^c$. Using potential theory, we give an explicit formula for $R_U$, the minimum possible energy of a probability measure compactly supported on $U^c$ under logarithmic potential with a quadratic external field. Moreover, we calculate $R_U$ explicitly for some special sets like annulus, cardioid, ellipse, equilateral triangle and half disk.

Lyapunov exponents and eigenvalues of products of random matrices

Let $X_1,X_2, \ldots $ be a sequence of $i.i.d$ real (complex) $d \times d $ invertible random matrices with common distribution $μ$ and $σ_1(n), σ_2(n), \ldots , σ_d(n)$ be the singular values, $λ_1(n), λ_2(n), \ldots , λ_d(n)$ be the eigenvalues of $X_nX_{n-1}\cdots X_1$ in the decreasing order of their absolute values for every $n$. It is known that if $\mathbb{E}(\log^{+}\|X_1\|)< \infty$, then with probability one for all $1 \leq p \leq d$, $$ \lim_{n \to \infty} \frac{1}{n}\log σ_p(n)=γ_p, $$ where ${γ_1,γ_2 \ldots γ_d}$ are the Lyapunov exponents associated with $μ$. In this paper we show that under certain support and moment conditions on $μ$, the absolute values of eigenvalues also exhibit the same asymptotic behaviour. In fact, a stronger asymptotic relation holds between the singular values and the eigenvalues $i.e.$ for any $r>0$ with probability one for all $1 \leq p \leq d$, $$ \lim_{n \to \infty} \frac{1}{n^r}\log \left(\frac{|λ_p(n)|}{σ_p(n)}\right)= 0, $$ which implies that the fluctuations of the eigenvalues have the same asymptotic distribution as that of the corresponding singular values. Isotropic random matrices and also random matrices with $i.i.d$ real elements, which have some finite moment and bounded density whose support contains an open set, are shown to satisfy the moment and support conditions under which the above relations hold.

Determinantal point processes in the plane from products of random matrices

We show the density of eigenvalues for three classes of random matrix ensembles is determinantal. First we derive the density of eigenvalues of product of $k$ independent $n\times n$ matrices with i.i.d. complex Gaussian entries with a few of matrices being inverted. In second example we calculate the same for (compatible) product of rectangular matrices with i.i.d. Gaussian entries and in last example we calculate for product of independent truncated unitary random matrices. We derive exact expressions for limiting expected empirical spectral distributions of above mentioned ensembles.
