Brownian Loops, Layering Fields and Imaginary Gaussian Multiplicative Chaos

We study vertex-like operators built from the Brownian loop soup in the limit as the loop soup intensity tends to infinity. More precisely, following Camia, Gandolfi and Kleban (Nuclear Physics B 902, 2016), we take a Brownian loop soup in a planar domain and assign a random sign to each loop. We then consider random fields defined by taking, at every point of the domain, the exponential of a purely imaginary constant times the sum of the signs associated to the loops that wind around that point. As smaller loops are included in the count, that sum diverges logarithmically with the diameter of the loops, but we show that a suitable renormalization procedure allows to define the fields in an appropriate Sobolev space. Subsequently, we let the intensity of the loop soup tend to infinity and prove that these vertex-like fields tend to a conformally covariant random field which can be expressed as an explicit functional of the imaginary Gaussian multiplicative chaos with covariance kernel given by the Brownian loop measure. Besides using properties of the Brownian loop soup and the Brownian loop measure, a main tool in our analysis is an explicit Wiener-Itô chaos expansion of linear functionals of vertex-like fields.

Limit theorems for loop soup random variables

This article deals with limit theorems for certain loop variables for loop soups whose intensity approaches infinity. We first consider random walk loop soups on finite graphs and obtain a central limit theorem when the loop variable is the sum over all loops of the integral of each loop against a given one-form on the graph. An extension of this result to the noncommutative case of loop holonomies is also discussed. As an application of the first result, we derive a central limit theorem for windings of loops around the faces of a planar graphs. More precisely, we show that the winding field generated by a random walk loop soup, when appropriately normalized, has a Gaussian limit as the loop soup intensity tends to $\infty$, and we give an explicit formula for the covariance kernel of the limiting field. We also derive a Spitzer-type law for windings of the Brownian loop soup, i.e., we show that the total winding around a point of all loops of diameter larger than $δ$, when multiplied by $1/\logδ$, converges in distribution to a Cauchy random variable as $δ\to 0$.

On critical points of random polynomials and spectrum of certain products of random matrices

In the first part we study critical points of random polynomials. We choose two deterministic sequences of complex numbers, whose empirical measures converge to the same probability measure in complex plane. We make a sequence of polynomials whose zeros are chosen from either of sequences at random. We show that the limiting empirical measure of zeros and critical points agree for these polynomials. As a consequence we show that when we randomly perturb the zeros of a deterministic sequence of polynomials, the limiting empirical measures of zeros and critical points agree. This result can be interpreted as an extension of earlier results where randomness is reduced. Pemantle and Rivin initiated the study of critical points of random polynomials. Kabluchko proved the result considering the zeros to be i.i.d. random variables. In the second part we deal with the spectrum of products of Ginibre matrices. Exact eigenvalue density is known for a very few matrix ensembles. For the known ones they often lead to determinantal point process. Let $X_1,X_2,...,X_k$ be i.i.d matrices of size $n \times n$ whose entries are independent complex Gaussian random variables. We derive the eigenvalue density for matrices of the form $Y_1.Y_2....Y_n$, where each $Y_i = X_i$ or $X_i^{-1}$. We show that the eigenvalues form a determinantal point process. The case where $k=2$, $Y_1=X_1,Y_2=X_2^{-1}$ was derived earlier by Krishnapur. The case where $Y_i =X_i$ for all $i=1,2,...,n$, was derived by Akemann and Burda. These two known cases can be obtained as special cases of our result.

Determinantal point processes in the plane from products of random matrices

We show the density of eigenvalues for three classes of random matrix ensembles is determinantal. First we derive the density of eigenvalues of product of $k$ independent $n\times n$ matrices with i.i.d. complex Gaussian entries with a few of matrices being inverted. In second example we calculate the same for (compatible) product of rectangular matrices with i.i.d. Gaussian entries and in last example we calculate for product of independent truncated unitary random matrices. We derive exact expressions for limiting expected empirical spectral distributions of above mentioned ensembles.
