Antiferromagnetic resonances in twinned EuFe2As2 single crystal

In this work, we report ferromagnetic resonance spectroscopy of EuFe2As2 single crystals. We observe ferromagnetic resonance responses, which are attributed to antiferromagnetic resonances of Eu sub-lattice with orthorhombic crystal structure and with different orientations of twin domains relative to the external field. We confirm validity of the recently-proposed spin Hamiltonian with anisotropic Eu-Eu exchange interaction and biquadratic Eu-Fe exchange interaction.

Exchange spin waves in thin films with gradient composition

We report investigation of ferromagnetic resonance phenomenon in ferromagnetic thin films with essentially non-uniform composition. Epitaxial Pd-Fe thin film with linear distribution of Fe content across the thickness is used as the model material. Anomalous perpendicular standing spin waves are observed and quantified using the collective dynamic equation. Numerical analysis yields the exchange stiffness constant for diluted Pd-Fe alloy $D=2A/μ_0M_s=15$~T$\cdot$nm$^2$ and the ratio of the effective magnetization to the saturation magnetization $M_{eff}/M_s=1.16$. It is demonstrated that, overall, engineering of thin films with non-uniform composition across the thickness can be used for high-frequency or low-field magnonic operations using exchange spin waves.

Magnetic resonances in EuSn$_2$As$_2$ single crystal

In this work, we report the broad-band ferromagnetic resonance spectroscopy of EuSn$_2$As$_2$ single crystals at different temperatures in combination with magnetization measurements and structural characterization. We observe conventional collective acoustic resonance mode of the A-type antiferromagnetic spin-flop phase in the Eu sub-lattice, and its transition to the paramagnetic resonance above the ordering temperature. Furthermore, we observe reproducibly additional well-defined spectral line. The origin of the additional line remains unclear. However, its temperature dependence attributes it to magnetism in the Eu sub-lattice.

Magnetization dynamics in proximity-coupled superconductor/ferromagnet/superconductor multilayers

In this work, magnetization dynamics is studied in superconductor/ferromagnet/superconductor three-layered films in a wide frequency, field, and temperature ranges using the broad-band ferromagnetic resonance measurement technique. It is shown that in presence of both superconducting layers and of superconducting proximity at both superconductor/ferromagnet interfaces a massive shift of the ferromagnetic resonance to higher frequencies emerges. The phenomenon is robust and essentially long-range: it has been observed for a set of samples with the thickness of ferromagnetic layer in the range from tens up to hundreds of nanometers. The resonance frequency shift is characterized by proximity-induced magnetic anisotropies: by the positive in-plane uniaxial anisotropy and by the drop of magnetization. The shift and the corresponding uniaxial anisotropy grow with the thickness of the ferromagnetic layer. For instance, the anisotropy reaches 0.27~T in experiment for a sample with 350~nm thick ferromagnetic layer, and about 0.4~T in predictions, which makes it a ferromagnetic film structure with the highest anisotropy and the highest natural resonance frequency ever reported. Various scenarios for the superconductivity-induced magnetic anisotropy are discussed. As a result, the origin of the phenomenon remains unclear. Application of the proximity-induced anisotropies in superconducting magnonics is proposed as a way for manipulations with a spin-wave spectrum.

Electrodynamics of a planar Archimedean spiral resonator

We present a theoretical and experimental study of electrodynamics of a planar spiral superconducting resonator of a finite length. The resonator is made in the form of a monofilar Archimedean spiral. By making use of a general model of inhomogeneous alternating current flowing along the resonator and specific boundary conditions on the surface of the strip, we obtain analytically the frequencies $f_n$ of resonances which can be excited in such system. We also calculate corresponding inhomogeneous RF current distributions $ψ_n (r)$, where $r$ is the coordinate across a spiral. We show that the resonant frequencies and current distributions are well described by simple relationships $f_n=f_1 n$, and $ψ_n(r)\simeq \sin[πn (r/R_e)^2]$, where $n=1,2...$, and $R_e$ is the external radius of the spiral. Our analysis of electrodynamic properties of spiral resonators' is in good accord with direct numerical simulations and measurements made using specifically designed magnetic probe and laser scanning microscope.

Superconducting hot-electron nanobolometer with microwave bias and readout

We propose a new detection technique based on radio-frequency (RF) bias and readout of an antenna-coupled superconducting nanobolometer. This approach is suitable for Frequency-Division-Multiplexing (FDM) readout of large arrays using broadband low-noise RF amplifier. We call this new detector RFTES. This feasibility study was made on demonstrator devices which are made in all-Nb technology and operate at 4.2 K. The studied RFTES devices consist of an antenna-coupled superconducting nanobolometer made of ultrathin niobium films with transition temperature Tc = 5.2 K. The 0.65-THz antenna and nanobolometer are embedded as a load into a GHz-range coplanar niobium resonator (Tc = 8.9 K, Q = 4000). To heat the superconducting Nb nanobolometer close to the Tc, the RF power at resonator frequency f = 5.8 GHz is applied via a transmission line which is weakly coupled (-11 dB) to the loaded resonator. The THz-antenna of RFTES was placed in the focus of a sapphire immersion lens inside a He4-cryostat equipped with an optical window and a semiconductor RF amplifier. We have demonstrated optical response of the RFTES to THz radiation. The demonstrator receiver system employing the RFTES device showed an optical Noise-Equivalent Power (NEP) 1e-14 W/sqrt(Hz) at 4.2 K.
