Classical harmonic three-body system: An experimental electronic realization

The classical three-body harmonic system in $\mathbb{R}^d$ ($d>1$) with finite rest lengths and zero total angular momentum $L=0$ is considered. This model describes the dynamics of the $L=0$ near-equilibrium configurations of three point masses $(m_1,m_2,m_3)$ with arbitrary pairwise potential $V(r_{ij})$ that solely depends on the relative distances between bodies. It exhibits an interesting mixed regular and chaotic dynamics as a function of the energy and the system parameters. The corresponding harmonic quantum system plays a fundamental role in atomic and molecular physics. In this work we report on a novel electronic experimental realization of the model as a complementary tool to analyze the rich dynamics of the classical system. Our setup allows us to experimentally explore different regions of behavior due to the fact that the system parameters and initial conditions are independently controlled via voltage signals. Chaotic and periodic motions are characterized employing time series, phase planes, and the largest Lyapunov exponents as a function of the energy and system parameters. The results show an excellent qualitative as well as quantitative agreement between theory and experiment.

Hydrogen atom confined inside an inverted-Gaussian potential

In this work, we consider the hydrogen atom confined inside a penetrable spherical potential. The confining potential is described by an inverted-Gaussian function of depth $ω_0$, width $σ$ and centered at $r_c$. In particular, this model has been used to study atoms inside a $C_{60}$ fullerene. For the lowest values of angular momentum $l=0,1,2$, the spectra of the system as a function of the parameters ($ω_0,σ,r_c$) is calculated using three distinct numerical methods: (i) Lagrange-mesh method, (ii) fourth order finite differences and (iii) the finite element method. Concrete results with not less than 11 significant figures are displayed. Also, within the Lagrange-mesh approach the corresponding eigenfunctions and the expectation value of $r$ for the first six states of $s, p$ and $d$ symmetries, respectively, are presented. Our accurate energies are taken as initial data to train an artificial neural network as well. It generates an efficient numerical interpolation. The present numerical results improve and extend those reported in the literature.

Crámer-Rao complexity of the two-dimensional confined hydrogen

The internal disorder of the two-dimensional confined hydrogenic atom is numerically studied in terms of the confinement radius for the 1\textit{s}, 2\textit{s}, 2\textit{p} and 3\textit{d} quantum states by means of the statistical Crámer-Rao complexity measure. First, the confinement dependence of the variance and the Fisher information of the position and momentum spreading of its electron distribution are computed and discussed. Then, the Crámer-Rao complexity measure (which quantifies the combined balance of the charge concentration around the mean value and the gradient content of the electron distribution) is investigated in position and momentum spaces. We found that confinement does distinguish complexity of the system for all quantum states by means of this two component measure.

Two-dimensional confined hydrogen: An entropy and complexity approach

The position and momentum spreading of the electron distribution of the two-dimensional confined hydrogenic atom, which is a basic prototype of the general multidimensional confined quantum systems, is numerically studied in terms of the confinement radius for the 1s, 2s, 2p and 3d quantum states by means of the main entropy and complexity information-theoretic measures. First, the Shannon entropy and the Fisher information as well as the associated uncertainty relations are computed and discussed. Then, the Fisher-Shannon, LMC and LMC-Rényi complexity measures are examined and mutually compared. We have found that these entropy and complexity quantities reflect the rich properties of the electron confinement extent in the two conjugated spaces.

Variational and perturbative approaches to the confined hydrogen atom with a moving nucleus

We calculate the ground--state energy and other physical properties of the hydrogen atom inside a spherical box with an impenetrable wall. We apply the variational method and perturbation theory and compare both approximate results. We show that the total, kinetic and potential energies for the moving--nucleus model are greater than those for the case in which the nucleus is clamped at the box center.
