WIP: Achieving Self-Interference-Free Operation on SDR Platform with Critical TDD Turnaround Time

Software Defined Radio (SDR) platforms are valuable for research and development activities or high-end systems that demand real-time adaptable wireless protocols. While low latency can be achieved using the dedicated digital processing unit of a state-of-the-art SDR platform, its Radio Frequency (RF) front-end often poses a limitation in terms of turnaround time (TT), the time needed for switching from the receiving to the transmitting mode (or vice versa). Zero Intermediate Frequency (ZIF) transceivers are favorable for SDR, but suffer from self-interference even if the device is not currently transmitting. The strict MAC-layer requirements of Time Division Duplex (TDD) protocols like Wi-Fi cannot be achieved using configurable ZIF transceivers without having to compromise receiver sensitivity. Using a novel approach, we show that the TT using the AD9361 RF front-end can be as low as 640 ns, while the self-interference is at the same level as achieved by the conventional TDD mode, which has a TT of at least 55 μs. As compared to Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) mode, a decrease of receiver noise floor by about 13 dB in the 2.4 GHz band and by about 4.5 dB in the 5 GHz band is achieved.

Classical and Bayesian Analyses of a Mixture of Exponential and Lomax Distributions

The exponential and the Lomax distributions are widely used in life testing experiments in mixture models. A mixture model of exponential distribution and Lomax distribution is proposed. Parameters of the proposed model are estimated using classical and Bayesian procedures under type-I right censoring. Expressions for Bayes estimators are derived assuming noninformative (uniform and Jeffreys) priors under symmetric and asymmetric loss functions. Posterior predictive distributions of a future observation are derived and predictive estimates are obtained. Extensive Monte Carlo simulations are carried out to investigate performance of the estimators in terms of sample sizes, censoring times and mixing proportions. The analysis of mixture model is carried out using a data set of lifetime of transmitter receivers. Interesting properties of estimators are observed and discussed.

Evaluating the Communication Efficiency in Federated Learning Algorithms

In the era of advanced technologies, mobile devices are equipped with computing and sensing capabilities that gather excessive amounts of data. These amounts of data are suitable for training different learning models. Cooperated with advancements in Deep Learning (DL), these learning models empower numerous useful applications, e.g., image processing, speech recognition, healthcare, vehicular network and many more. Traditionally, Machine Learning (ML) approaches require data to be centralised in cloud-based data-centres. However, this data is often large in quantity and privacy-sensitive which prevents logging into these data-centres for training the learning models. In turn, this results in critical issues of high latency and communication inefficiency. Recently, in light of new privacy legislations in many countries, the concept of Federated Learning (FL) has been introduced. In FL, mobile users are empowered to learn a global model by aggregating their local models, without sharing the privacy-sensitive data. Usually, these mobile users have slow network connections to the data-centre where the global model is maintained. Moreover, in a complex and large scale network, heterogeneous devices that have various energy constraints are involved. This raises the challenge of communication cost when implementing FL at large scale. To this end, in this research, we begin with the fundamentals of FL, and then, we highlight the recent FL algorithms and evaluate their communication efficiency with detailed comparisons. Furthermore, we propose a set of solutions to alleviate the existing FL problems both from communication perspective and privacy perspective.

Paired Comparisons Modeling using t-Distribution with Bayesian Analysis

A paired comparison analysis is the simplest way to make comparative judgments between objects where objects may be goods, services or skills. For a set of problems, this technique helps to choose the most important problem to solve first and/or provides the solution that will be the most effective. This paper presents the theory of paired comparisons method and contributes to the paired comparisons models by developing a new model based on t-distribution. The developed model is illustrated using a data set of citations among four famous journals of Statistics. Using Bayesian analysis, the journals are ranked as JRSS-B --> Biometrika --> JASA --> Comm. in Stats.

Bipolar Fuzzy Soft sets and its applications in decision making problem

In this article, we combine the concept of a bipolar fuzzy set and a soft set. We introduce the notion of bipolar fuzzy soft set and study fundamental properties. We study basic operations on bipolar fuzzy soft set. We define exdended union, intersection of two bipolar fuzzy soft set. We also give an application of bipolar fuzzy soft set into decision making problem. We give a general algorithm to solve decision making problems by using bipolar fuzzy soft set.

Generalization of N-Ideals Of BE-algebras

In this paper, using N-structure, the notion of an N-ideal in a BE-algebra is introduced. Conditions for an N-structure to be an N-ideal are provided. To obtain a more general form of an N-ideal, a point N-structure which is (k conditionally) employed in an N-structure is proposed. Using these notions, the concept of an N-ideal is introduced and related properties are investigated. N-ideal is a generalized form of N-ideal. Characterizations of N-ideals are discussed.

On Fuzzy semihyperrings

In this article we introduce the study of fuzzy semihyperrings and fuzzy R-semihypermodules, where R is a semihyperrings and R-semihypermodules are represntations of R. In particular, semihyperrings all of whose hyperideals are idempotent, called fully idempotent semihyperrings, are investigated in a fuzzy context. It is proved, among other results, that a semihyperring R is fully idempotent if and only if the lattics of fuzzy hyperideals of R is distributive under the sum and product of fuzzy hyperideals. It is also shown that the set of proper fuzzy prime hyperideals of a fully idempotent semihyperring R admits the structure of a topological space, called the fuzzy prime spectrum of R.
