Analysis and Simulation of the Three-Component Model of HIV Dynamics

Mathematical modeling of biological systems is crucial to effectively and efficiently developing treatments for medical conditions that plague humanity. Often, systems of ordinary differential equations are a traditional tool used to describe the spread of disease within the body. We consider the dynamics of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) in vivo during the initial stage of infection. In particular, we examine the well-known three-component model and prove the existence, uniqueness, and boundedness of solutions. Furthermore, we prove that solutions remain biologically meaningful, i.e., are positivity preserving, and perform a thorough, local stability analysis for the equilibrium states of the system. Finally, we incorporate random coefficients within the model and obtain numerical results to predict the probability of infection given the transmission of the virus to a new individual.

Some remarks about interpolating sequences in reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces

In this paper we study two separate problems on interpolation. We first give some new equivalences of Stout's Theorem on necessary and sufficient conditions for a sequence of points to be an interpolating sequence on a finite open Riemann surface. We next turn our attention to the question of interpolation for reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces on the polydisc and provide a collection of equivalent statements about when it is possible to interpolation in the Schur-Agler class of the associated reproducing kernel Hilbert space.

The Toeplitz corona problem for algebras of multipliers on a Nevanlinna-Pick space

Suppose $\fA$ is an algebra of operators on a Hilbert space $H$ and $A_1,..., A_n \in \fA$. If the row operator $[A_1,..., A_n] \in B(H^{(n)},H)$ has a right inverse in $B(H, H^{(n)})$, the Toeplitz corona problem for $\fA$ asks if a right inverse can be found with entries in $\fA$. When $H$ is a complete Nevanlinna-Pick space and $\fA$ is a weakly-closed algebra of multiplication operators on $H$, we show that under a stronger hypothesis, the corona problem for $\fA$ has a solution. When $\fA$ is the full multiplier algebra of $H$, the Toeplitz corona theorems of Arveson, Schubert and Ball-Trent-Vinnikov are obtained. A tangential interpolation result for these algebras is developed in order to solve the Toeplitz corona problem.

Duality, Tangential Interpolation, and Toeplitz Corona Problems

In this paper we extend a method of Arveson and McCullough to prove a tangential interpolation theorem for subalgebras of $H^\infty$. This tangential interpolation result implies a Toelitz corona theorem. In particular, it is shown that the set of matrix positivity conditions is indexed by cyclic subspaces, which is analogous to the results obtained for the ball and the polydisk algebra by Trent-Wick and Douglas-Sarkar.

Representations of logmodular algebras

We study the question of whether or not contractive representations of logmodular algebras are completely contractive. We prove that a 2-contractive representation of a logmodular algebra extends to a positive map on the enveloping C*-algebra, which we show generalizes a result of Foias and Suciu on uniform logmodular algebras. Our proof uses non-commutative operator space generalizations of classical results on 2-summing maps and semispectral measures. We establish some matrix factorization results for uniform logmodular algebras
