Stability estimate for an inverse problem for the time harmonic magnetic Schrödinger operator from the near and far field pattern

We derive conditional stability estimates for inverse scattering problems related to time harmonic magnetic Schrödinger equation. We prove logarithmic type estimates for retrieving the magnetic (up to a gradient) and electric potentials from near field or far field maps. Our approach combines techniques from similar results obtained in the literature for inhomogeneous inverse scattering problems based on the use of geometrical optics solutions.

Stable recovery of a metric tensor from the partial hyperbolic Dirichlet to Neumann map

In this paper we consider the inverse problem of determining on a compact Riemannian manifold the metric tensor in the wave equation with Dirichlet data from measured Neumann boundary observations. This information is enclosed in the dynamical Dirichlet-to-Neumann map associated to the wave equation. We prove in dimension $n\geq 2$ that the knowledge of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map for the wave equation uniquely determines the metric tensor and we establish logarithm-type stability.

Stable determination of a vector field in a non-self-adjoint dynamical Schrödinger equation on Riemannian manifolds

This paper deals with an inverse problem for a non-self-adjoint Schrödinger equation on a compact Riemannian manifold. Our goal is to stably determine a real vector field from the dynamical Dirichlet-to Neumann map. We establish in dimension n greater than 2, an Hölder type stability estimate for the inverse problem under study. The proof is mainly based on the reduction to an equivalent problem for an electro-magnetic Schrödinger equation and the use of a Carleman estimate designed for elliptic operators.

An inverse problem for the magnetic Schrödinger equation in infinite cylindrical domains

We study the inverse problem of determining the magnetic field and the electric potential entering the Schrödinger equation in an infinite 3D cylindrical domain, by Dirichlet-to-Neumann map. The cylindrical domain we consider is a closed waveguide in the sense that the cross section is a bounded domain of the plane. We prove that the knowledge of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map determines uniquely, and even Hölder-stably, the magnetic field induced by the magnetic potential and the electric potential. Moreover, if the maximal strength of both the magnetic field and the electric potential, is attained in a fixed bounded subset of the domain, we extend the above results by taking finitely extended boundary observations of the solution, only.

Carleman estimates for elliptic operators with complex coefficients Part II: transmission problems

We consider elliptic transmission problems with complex coefficients across an interface. Under proper transmission conditions, that extend known conditions for well-posedness, and sub-ellipticity we derive microlocal and local Carleman estimates near the interface. Carleman estimates are weighted a priori estimates of the solutions of the elliptic transmission problem. The weight is of exponential form, exp($tau$ ϕ) where $tau$ can be taken as large as desired. Such estimates have numerous applications in unique continuation, inverse problems, and control theory. The proof relies on microlocal factorizations of the symbols of the conjugated operators in connection with the sign of the imaginary part of their roots. We further consider weight functions where ϕ = exp($γ$$ψ$), with $γ$ acting as a second large paremeter, and we derive estimates where the dependency upon the two parameters, $tau$ and $γ$, is made explicit. Applications to unique continuation properties are given.

An inverse stability result for non compactly supported potentials by one arbitrary lateral Neumann observation

In this paper we investigate the inverse problem of determining the time independent scalar potential of the dynamic Schrödinger equation in an infinite cylindrical domain, from partial measurement of the solution on the boundary. Namely, if the potential is known in a neighborhood of the boundary of the spatial domain, we prove that it can be logarithmic stably determined in the whole waveguide from a single observation of the solution on any arbitrary strip-shaped subset of the boundary.

Carleman estimate for Biot consolidation system in poro-elasticity and application to inverse problems

In this paper, we consider a coupled system of mixed hyperbolic-parabolic type which describes the Biot consolidation model in poro-elasticity. We establish a local Carleman estimate for Biot consilidation system. Using this estimate, we prove the uniqueness and a Hölder stability in determining on the one hand a physical parameter arising in connection with secondary consolidation effects $λ^*$ and on the other hand the two spatially varying density by a single measurement of solution over $ω\times (0, T)$, where $T>0$ is a sufficiently large time and a suitable subbdomain $ω$ satisfying $\p ω\supset \p Ω$.

Carleman estimate for the Navier-Stokes equations and an application to a lateral Cauchy problem

We consider the nonstationary linearized Navier-Stokes equations in a bounded domain and first we prove a Carleman estimate with a regular weight function. Second we apply the Carleman estimate to a lateral Cauchy problem for the Navier-Stokes equations and prove the Hölder stability in determining the velocity and pressure field in an interior domain.

Stable determination of coefficients in the dynamical Schrödinger equation in a magnetic field

In this paper we consider the inverse problem of determining on a compact Riemannian manifold the electric potential or the magnetic field in a Schrödinger equation with Dirichlet data from measured Neumann boundary observations. This information is enclosed in the dynamical Dirichlet-to-Neumann map associated to the magnetic Schrödinger equation. We prove that the knowledge of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map for the Schrödinger equation uniquely determines the magnetic field and the electric potential and we establish Hölder-type stability.

Carleman Estimate and Inverse Source Problem for Biot's Equations Describing Wave Propagation in Porous Media

According to Biot's paper in 1956, by using the Lagrangian equations in classical mechanics, we consider a problem of the filtration of a liquid in porous elastic-deformation media whose mechanical behavior is described by the Lam'e system coupled with a hyperbolic equation. Assuming the null surface displacement on the whole boundary, we discuss an inverse source problem of determining a body force only by observation of surface traction on a suitable subdomain along a sufficiently large time interval. Our main result is a Hölder stability estimate for the inverse source problem, which is proved by a new Carleman estimat for Biot's system.

Inverse boundary value problem for the dynamical heterogeneous Maxwell system

We consider the inverse problem of determining the isotropic inhomogeneous electromagnetic coefficients of the non-stationary Maxwell equations in a bounded domain of R^3, from a finite number of boundary measurements. Our main result is a Hölder stability estimate for the inverse problem, where the measurements are exerted only in some boundary components. For it, we prove a global Carleman estimate for the heterogeneous Maxwell's system with boundary conditions.

Stability estimates for the anisotropic wave equation from the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map

In this article we seek stability estimates in the inverse problem of determining the potential or the velocity in a wave equation in an anisotropic medium from measured Neumann boundary observations. This information is enclosed in the dynamical Dirichlet-to-Neumann map associated to the wave equation. We prove in dimension $n\geq 2$ that the knowledge of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map for the wave equation uniquely determines the electric potential and we prove Hölder-type stability in determining the potential.

Stable determination of coefficients in the dynamical anisotropic Schr{ö}dinger equation from the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map

In this paper we are interested in establishing stability estimates in the inverse problem of determining on a compact Riemannian manifold the electric potential or the conformal factor in a Schrödinger equation with Dirichlet data from measured Neumann boundary observations. This information is enclosed in the dynamical Dirichlet-to-Neumann map associated to the Schrödinger equation. We prove in dimension n bigger than 2 that the knowledge of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map for the Schrödinger equation uniquely determines the electric potential and we establish Hölder-type stability estimates in determining the potential. We prove similar results for the determination of a conformal factor close to 1.
