Stability estimates for the Calderón problem with partial data

This is a follow-up of a previous article where we proved local stability estimates for a potential in a Schrödinger equation on an open bounded set in dimension $n=3$ from the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map with partial data. The region under control was the penumbra delimited by a source of light outside of the convex hull of the open set. These local estimates provided stability of log-log type corresponding to the uniqueness results in Calderón's inverse problem with partial data proved by Kenig, Sjöstrand and Uhlmann. In this article, we prove the corresponding global estimates in all dimensions higher than three. The estimates are based on the construction of solutions of the Schrödinger equation by complex geometrical optics developed in the anisotropic setting by Dos Santos Ferreira, Kenig, Salo and Uhlmann to solve the Calderón problem in certain admissible geometries.

The Calderon problem in transversally anisotropic geometries

We consider the anisotropic Calderon problem of recovering a conductivity matrix or a Riemannian metric from electrical boundary measurements in three and higher dimensions. In the earlier work \cite{DKSaU}, it was shown that a metric in a fixed conformal class is uniquely determined by boundary measurements under two conditions: (1) the metric is conformally transversally anisotropic (CTA), and (2) the transversal manifold is simple. In this paper we will consider geometries satisfying (1) but not (2). The first main result states that the boundary measurements uniquely determine a mixed Fourier transform / attenuated geodesic ray transform (or integral against a more general semiclassical limit measure) of an unknown coefficient. In particular, one obtains uniqueness results whenever the geodesic ray transform on the transversal manifold is injective. The second result shows that the boundary measurements in an infinite cylinder uniquely determine the transversal metric. The first result is proved by using complex geometrical optics solutions involving Gaussian beam quasimodes, and the second result follows from a connection between the Calderon problem and Gel'fand's inverse problem for the wave equation and the boundary control method.

Stability estimates for an inverse scattering problem at high frequencies

We consider an inverse scattering problem and its near-field approximation at high frequencies. We first prove, for both problems, Lipschitz stability results for determining the low-frequency component of the potential. Then we show that, in the case of a radial potential supported sufficiently near the boundary, infinite resolution can be achieved from measurements of the near-field operator in the monotone case.

Determining an unbounded potential from Cauchy data in admissible geometries

In a previous article of Dos Santos Ferreira, Kenig, Salo and Uhlmann, anisotropic inverse problems were considered in certain admissible geometries, that is, on compact Riemannian manifolds with boundary which are conformally embedded in a product of the Euclidean line and a simple manifold. In particular, it was proved that a bounded smooth potential in a Schrödinger equation was uniquely determined by the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map in dimensions n \geq 3. In this article we extend this result to the case of unbounded potentials, namely those in Ln/2. In the process, we derive Lp Carleman estimates with limiting Carleman weights similar to the Euclidean estimates of Jerison-Kenig and Kenig-Ruiz-Sogge.

Global and local regularity of Fourier integral operators on weighted and unweighted spaces

We investigate the global continuity on $L^p$ spaces with $p\in [1,\infty]$ of Fourier integral operators with smooth and rough amplitudes and/or phase functions subject to certain non-degeneracy conditions. We initiate the investigation of the continuity of smooth and rough Fourier integral operators on weighted $L^{p}$ spaces, $L_{w}^p$ with $1< p < \infty$ and $w\in A_{p},$ (i.e. the Muckenhoput weights), and establish weighted norm inequalities for operators with rough and smooth amplitudes and phase functions satisfying a suitable rank condition. These results are then applied to prove weighted and unweighted estimates for the commutators of Fourier integral operators with functions of bounded mean oscillation BMO, then to some estimates on weighted Triebel-Lizorkin spaces, and finally to global unweighted and local weighted estimates for the solutions of the Cauchy problem for $m$-th and second order hyperbolic partial differential equations on $\mathbf{R}^n .$

On $L^p$ resolvent estimates for Laplace-Beltrami operators on compact manifolds

In this article we prove $L^p$ estimates for resolvents of Laplace-Beltrami operators on compact Riemannian manifolds, generalizing results of Kenig, Ruiz and Sogge in the Euclidean case and Shen for the torus. We follow Sogge and construct Hadamard's parametrix, then use classical boundedness results on integral operators with oscillatory kernels related to the Carleson and Sjölin condition. Our initial motivation was to obtain $L^p$ Carleman estimates with limiting Carleman weights generalizing those of Jerison and Kenig; we illustrate the pertinence of $L^p$ resolvent estimates by showing the relation with Carleman estimates. Such estimates are useful in the construction of complex geometrical optics solutions to the Schrödinger equation with unbounded potentials, an essential device for solving anisotropic inverse problems.

Stability estimates for the anisotropic wave equation from the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map

In this article we seek stability estimates in the inverse problem of determining the potential or the velocity in a wave equation in an anisotropic medium from measured Neumann boundary observations. This information is enclosed in the dynamical Dirichlet-to-Neumann map associated to the wave equation. We prove in dimension $n\geq 2$ that the knowledge of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map for the wave equation uniquely determines the electric potential and we prove Hölder-type stability in determining the potential.

Stable determination of coefficients in the dynamical anisotropic Schr{ö}dinger equation from the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map

In this paper we are interested in establishing stability estimates in the inverse problem of determining on a compact Riemannian manifold the electric potential or the conformal factor in a Schrödinger equation with Dirichlet data from measured Neumann boundary observations. This information is enclosed in the dynamical Dirichlet-to-Neumann map associated to the Schrödinger equation. We prove in dimension n bigger than 2 that the knowledge of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map for the Schrödinger equation uniquely determines the electric potential and we establish Hölder-type stability estimates in determining the potential. We prove similar results for the determination of a conformal factor close to 1.
