We establish both the existence and uniqueness of non-negative global solutions for the nonlinear heat equation ut−Δu=∣x∣−γuq, 0<q<1, γ>0 in the whole space RN, and for non-negative initial data u0∈C0(RN).
We investigate the blow-up for a fourth-order Schrödinger equation with a mas-critical focusing inhomogeneous nonlinearity. We prove the finite/infinite-time blow-up of non-radial solutions with negative energy. Our result serves as a valuable complement to the existing literature and offers an improvement in our understanding of the subject matter.
We investigate the existence and the boundary regularity of source-type self-similar solutions to the thin-film equation ht=−(hnhzzz)z+(hn+3)zz, t>0,z∈R;h(0,z)=ωδ(z) where n∈(23,3),ω>0 and δ is the Dirac mass at the origin. It is known that the leading order expansion near the edge of the support coincides with that of a traveling-wave solution for the standard thin-film equation: ht=−(hnhzzz)z. In this paper we sharpen this result, proving that the higher order corrections are analytic with respect to three variables: the first one is just the {spatial} variable, whereas the second and the third (except for n=2) are irrational powers of it. It is known that this third variable does not appear for the thin-film equation without gravity.
We investigate the Cauchy problem for the focusing inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger equation i∂tu+Δu=−∣x∣b∣u∣p−1u in the radial Sobolev space Hrad1(RN), where b>0 and p>1. We show the global existence and energy scattering in the inter-critical regime, i.e., p>NN+4+2b and p<N−2N+2+2b if N≥3. We also obtain blowing-up solutions for the mass-critical and mass-supercritical nonlinearities. The main difficulty, coming from the spatial growing nonlinearity, is overcome by refined Gagliardo-Nirenberg type inequalities. Our proofs are based on improved Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequalities, the Morawetz-Sobolev approach of Dodson and Murphy, radial Sobolev embeddings, and localized virial estimates.
We study a class of initial boundary value problems of hyperbolic type. A new topological approach is applied to prove the existence of non-negative classical solutions. The arguments are based upon a recent theoretical result.
In this paper, we study the focusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation with exponential nonlinearities i∂tu+Δu=−(e4π∣u∣2−1−4πμ∣u∣2)u,u(0)=u0∈H1,(t,x)∈R×R2, where μ∈{0,1}. By using variational arguments, we first derive invariant sets where the global existence and finite time blow-up occur. In particular, we obtain sharp thresholds for global existence and finite time blow-up. In the case μ=1, by adapting a recent argument of Arora-Dodson-Murphy \cite{ADM}, we study the long time dynamics of global solutions. It turns out that either there exist tn→+∞ and Rn→∞ such that u(tn) vanishes inside B(0,Rn) for all n≥1 or the solution scatters in H1.
We investigate the p−Laplace heat equation ut−Δpu=ζ(t)f(u) on a bounded smooth domain Ω⊂RN. Using differential inequalities arguments, we prove blow-up results under suitable conditions on ζ,f, and the initial data u0. We also give an upper bound for the blow-up time in each case.
We study the Hardy-Hénon parabolic equations on RN (N=2,3) under the effect of an additive fractional Brownian noise with Hurst parameter H>max(1/2,N/4). We show local existence and uniqueness of a mid Lq-solution under suitable assumptions on q.
In this paper we study the equations governing the unsteady motion of an incompressible homogeneous generalized second grade fluid subject to periodic boundary conditions. We establish the existence of global-in-time strong solutions for shear thickening flows in the two and three dimensional case. We also prove uniqueness of such solution without any smallness condition on the initial data or restriction on the material moduli.
We prove global existence of strong solutions to the drift-diffusion-Maxwell system in two space dimension. We also provide an exponential growth estimate for the H1 norm of the solution.
We prove a Log Log inequality with a sharp constant in four dimensions for radially symmetric functions. We also show that the constant in the Log estimate is almost sharp.
In a recent paper, Struwe considered the Cauchy problem for a class of nonlinear wave and Scrödinger equations. Under some assumptions on the nonlinearities, it was shown that uniqueness of classical solutions can be obtained in the much larger class of distribution solutions satisfying the energy inequality. As pointed out in [38], the conditions on the nonlinearities are satisfied for any polynomial growth but they fail to hold for higher growth (for example eu2). Our aim here is to improve Struwe's result by showing that uniqueness holds for more general nonlinearities including higher growth or oscillations.
We investigate an evolutive system of non-linear partial differential equations derived from Oldroyd models on Non-Newtonian flows. We prove global existence of weak solutions, in the case of a smooth bounded domain, for general initial data. The results hold true for the periodic case.
This paper is devoted to the description of the lack of compactness of the Sobolev embedding of H1(R2) in the critical Orlicz space ${\cL}(\R^2)$. It turns out that up to cores our result is expressed in terms of the concentration-type examples derived by J. Moser in \cite{M} as in the radial setting investigated in \cite{BMM}. However, the analysis we used in this work is strikingly different from the one conducted in the radial case which is based on an L∞ estimate far away from the origin and which is no longer valid in the general framework. Within the general framework of H1(R2), the strategy we adopted to build the profile decomposition in terms of examples by Moser concentrated around cores is based on capacity arguments and relies on an extraction process of mass concentrations. The essential ingredient to extract cores consists in proving by contradiction that if the mass responsible for the lack of compactness of the Sobolev embedding in the Orlicz space is scattered, then the energy used would exceed that of the starting sequence.
This paper is devoted to the description of the lack of compactness of Hrad1(R2) in the Orlicz space. Our result is expressed in terms of the concentration-type examples derived by P. -L. Lions. The approach that we adopt to establish this characterization is completely different from the methods used in the study of the lack of compactness of Sobolev embedding in Lebesgue spaces and take into account the variational aspect of Orlicz spaces. We also investigate the feature of the solutions of non linear wave equation with exponential growth, where the Orlicz norm plays a decisive role.
In order to describe behavior of various liquid-like materials at high pressures, incompressible fluid models with pressure dependent viscosity seem to be a suitable choice. In the context of implicit constitutive relations involving the Cauchy stress and the velocity gradient these models are consistent with standard procedures of continuum mechanics. Understanding mathematical properties of governing equations is connected with various types of idealization, some of them lead to studies in unbounded domains. In this paper, we first bring up several characteristic features concerning fluids with pressure dependent viscosity. Then we study three-dimensional flows of a class of fluids with the viscosity depending on the pressure and the shear rate. By means of higher differentiability methods we establish large data existence of a weak solution for the Cauchy problem. This seems to be a first result that analyzes flows of considered fluids in unbounded domains. Even in the context of purely shear rate dependent fluids of a power-law type the result presented here improves some of earlier works.
We investigate the initial value problem for a semilinear heat equation with exponential-growth nonlinearity in two space dimension. First, we prove the local existence and unconditional uniqueness of solutions in the Sobolev space H1(R2). The uniqueness part is non trivial although it follows Brezis-Cazenave's proof \cite{Br} in the case of monomial nonlinearity in dimension d≥3. Next, %Following Caffarelli-Vasseur \cite{cv}, we show that in the defocusing case our solution is bounded, and therefore exists for all time. In the focusing case, we prove that any solution with negative energy blows up in finite time. Lastly, we show that the unconditional result is lost once we slightly enlarge the Sobolev space H1(R2). The proof consists in constructing a singular stationnary solution that will gain some regularity when it serves as initial data in the heat equation. The Orlicz space appears to be appropriate for this result since, in this case, the potential term is only an integrable function.
