Mall bundles and flat connections on Hopf manifolds

A Mall bundle on a Hopf manifold H is a holomorphic vector bundle whose pullback to the universal cover of H is trivial. We define resonant and non-resonant Mall bundles, generalizing the notion of the resonance in ODE, and prove that a non-resonant Mall bundle always admits a flat holomorphic connection. We use this observation to prove a version of Poincare-Dulac linearization theorem, showing that any non-resonant invertible holomorphic contraction of a complex space is linear in appropriate holomorphic coordinates. We define the notion of resonance in Hopf manifolds, and show that all non-resonant Hopf manifolds are linear; previously, this result was obtained by Kodaira using the Poincare-Dulac theorem.

Locally conformally Kahler manifolds admitting a holomorphic conformal flow

A manifold $M$ is locally conformally Kahler (LCK) if it admits a Kahler covering with monodromy acting by holomorphic homotheties. Let $M$ be an LCK manifold admitting a holomorphic conformal flow of diffeomorphisms, lifted to a non-isometric homothetic flow on its covering. We show that $M$ admits an automorphic potential. This version was added 10 years after publication to correct some errors in the original.

Twisted Dolbeault cohomology of nilpotent Lie algebras

It is well known that cohomology of any non-trivial 1-dimensional local system on a nilmanifold vanishes (this result is due to L. Alaniya). A complex nilmanifold is a quotient of a nilpotent Lie group equipped with a left-invariant complex structure by an action of a discrete, co-compact subgroup. We prove a Dolbeault version of Alaniya's theorem, showing that the Dolbeault cohomology of a nilpotent Lie algebra with coefficients in any non-trivial 1-dimensional local system vanishes. Note that the Dolbeault cohomology of the corresponding local system on the manifold is not necessarily zero. This implies that the twisted version of Console-Fino theorem is false (Console-Fino proved that the Dolbeault cohomology of a complex nilmanifold is equal to the Dolbeault cohomology of its Lie algebra). As an application, we give a new proof of a theorem due to H. Sawai, who obtained an explicit description of LCK nilmanifolds. An LCK structure on a manifold $M$ is a Kähler structure on its cover $\tilde M$ such that the deck transform map acts on $\tilde M$ by homotheties. We show that any complex nilmanifold admitting an LCK structure is Vaisman, and is obtained as a compact quotient of the product of a Heisenberg group and the real line.

Mapping class group and global Torelli theorem for hyperkahler manifolds: an erratum

A mapping class group of an oriented manifold is a quotient of its diffeomorphism group by the isotopies. In the published version of "Mapping class group and a global Torelli theorem for hyperkahler manifolds" I made an error based on a wrong quotation of Dennis Sullivan's famous paper "Infinitesimal computations in topology". I claimed that the natural homomorphism from the mapping class group to the group of automorphims of cohomology of a simply connected Kahler manifold has finite kernel. In a recent preprint arXiv:1907.05693, Matthias Kreck and Yang Su produced counterexamples to this statement. Here I correct this error and other related errors, observing that the results of "Mapping class group and a global Torelli theorem" remain true after an appropriate change of terminology.

Embedding of LCK manifolds with potential into Hopf manifolds using Riesz-Schauder theorem

An locally conformally Kahler (LCK) manifold with potential is a complex manifold with a cover which admits an automorphic Kahler potential. An LCK manifold with potential can be embedded to a Hopf manifold, if its dimension is at least 3. We give a functional-analytic proof of this result based on Riesz-Schauder theorem and Montel theorem. We give an alternative argument for complex surfaces, deducing embedding theorem from the Spherical Shell Conjecture.

Compact pluricanonical manifolds are Vaisman

A locally conformally Kahler manifold is a Hermitian manifold $(M,I,ω)$ satisfying $dω=θ\wedge ω$, where $θ$ is a closed 1-form, called the Lee form of $M$. It is called pluricanonical if $\nablaθ$ is of Hodge type $(2,0)+(0,2)$, where $\nabla$ is the Levi-Civita connection, and Vaisman if $\nablaθ=0$. We show that a compact LCK manifold is pluricanonical if and only if the Lee form has constant length and the Kahler form of its covering admits an automorphic potential. Using a degenerate Monge-Ampere equation and the classification of surfaces of Kahler rank one, due to Brunella, Chiose and Toma, we show that any pluricanonical metric on a compact manifold is Vaisman. Several errata to our previous work are given in the last Section.

Complex geometry of moment-angle manifolds

Moment-angle manifolds provide a wide class of examples of non-Kaehler compact complex manifolds. A complex moment-angle manifold Z is constructed via certain combinatorial data, called a complete simplicial fan. In the case of rational fans, the manifold Z is the total space of a holomorphic bundle over a toric variety with fibres compact complex tori. In general, a complex moment-angle manifold Z is equipped with a canonical holomorphic foliation F which is equivariant with respect to the (C*)^m-action. Examples of moment-angle manifolds include Hopf manifolds of Vaisman type, Calabi-Eckmann manifolds, and their deformations. We construct transversely Kaehler metrics on moment-angle manifolds, under some restriction on the combinatorial data. We prove that any Kaehler submanifold (or, more generally, a Fujiki class C subvariety) in such a moment-angle manifold is contained in a leaf of the foliation F. For a generic moment-angle manifold Z in its combinatorial class, we prove that all subvarieties are moment-angle manifolds of smaller dimension. This implies, in particular, that the algebraic dimension of Z is zero.

LCK rank of locally conformally Kahler manifolds with potential

An LCK manifold with potential is a compact quotient of a Kahler manifold $X$ equipped with a positive Kahler potential $f$, such that the monodromy group acts on $X$ by holomorphic homotheties and multiplies $f$ by a character. The LCK rank is the rank of the image of this character, considered as a function from the monodromy group to real numbers. We prove that an LCK manifold with potential can have any rank between 1 and $b_1(M)$. Moreover, LCK manifolds with proper potential (ones with rank 1) are dense. Two errata to our previous work are given in the last Section.

Degenerate twistor spaces for hyperkahler manifolds

Let $M$ be a hyperkaehler manifold, and $η$ a closed, positive (1,1)-form which is degenerate everywhere on $M$. We associate to $η$ a family of complex structures on $M$, called a degenerate twistor family, and parametrized by a complex line. When $η$ is a pullback of a Kaehler form under a Lagrangian fibration $L$, all the fibers of degenerate twistor family also admit a Lagrangian fibration, with the fibers isomorphic to that of $L$. Degenerate twistor families can be obtained by taking limits of twistor families, as one of the Kahler forms in the hyperkahler triple goes to $η$.

Ergodic complex structures on hyperkahler manifolds

Let $M$ be a compact complex manifold. The corresponding Teichmuller space $\Teich$ is a space of all complex structures on $M$ up to the action of the group of isotopies. The group $Γ$ of connected components of the diffeomorphism group (known as the mapping class group) acts on $\Teich$ in a natural way. An ergodic complex structure is the one with a $Γ$-orbit dense in $\Teich$. Let $M$ be a complex torus of complex dimension $\geq 2$ or a hyperkahler manifold with $b_2>3$. We prove that $M$ is ergodic, unless $M$ has maximal Picard rank (there is a countable number of such $M$). This is used to show that all hyperkahler manifolds are Kobayashi non-hyperbolic.

Hyperbolic geometry of the ample cone of a hyperkahler manifold

Let $M$ be a compact hyperkahler manifold with maximal holonomy (IHS). The group $H^2(M, R)$ is equipped with a quadratic form of signature $(3, b_2-3)$, called Bogomolov-Beauville-Fujiki (BBF) form. This form restricted to the rational Hodge lattice $H^{1,1}(M,Q)$, has signature $(1,k)$. This gives a hyperbolic Riemannian metric on the projectivisation of the positive cone in $H^{1,1}(M,Q)$, denoted by $H$. Torelli theorem implies that the Hodge monodromy group $Γ$ acts on $H$ with finite covolume, giving a hyperbolic orbifold $X=H/Γ$. We show that there are finitely many geodesic hypersurfaces which cut $X$ into finitely many polyhedral pieces in such a way that each of these pieces is isometric to a quotient $P(M')/Aut(M')$, where $P(M')$ is the projectivization of the ample cone of a birational model $M'$ of $M$, and $Aut(M')$ the group of its holomorphic automorphisms. This is used to prove the existence of nef isotropic line bundles on a hyperkahler birational model of a simple hyperkahler manifold of Picard number at least 5, and also illustrates the fact that an IHS manifold has only finitely many birational models up to isomorphism, originally deduced by Markman and Yoshioka from the Morrison-Kawamata cone conjecture.

Teichmuller space for hyperkahler and symplectic structures

Let S be an infinite-dimensional manifold of all symplectic, or hyperkahler, structures on a compact manifold M, and $Diff_0$ the connected component of its diffeomorphism group. The quotient $S/\Diff_0$ is called the Teichmuller space of symplectic (or hyperkahler) structures on M. MBM classes on a hyperkahler manifold M are cohomology classes which can be represented by a minimal rational curve on a deformation of M. We determine the Teichmuller space of hyperkahler structures on a hyperkahler manifold, identifying any of its connected components with an open subset of the Grassmannian $SO(b_2-3,3)/SO(3)\times SO(b_2-3)$ consisting of all Beauville-Bogomolov positive 3-planes in $H^2(M, R)$ which are not orthogonal to any of the MBM classes. This is used to determine the Teichmuller space of symplectic structures of Kahler type on a hyperkahler manifold of maximal holonomy. We show that any connected component of this space is naturally identified with the space of cohomology classes $v\in H^2(M,\R)$ with $q(v,v)>0$, where $q$ is the Bogomolov-Beauville-Fujiki form on $H^2(M,\R)$.

Compact Kähler 3-manifolds without non-trivial subvarieties

We prove that any compact Kähler 3-dimensional manifold which has no non-trivial complex subvarieties is a torus. This is a very special case of a general conjecture on the structure of 'simple manifolds', central in the bimeromorphic classification of compact Kähler manifolds. The proof follows from the Brunella pseudo-effectivity theorem, combined with fundamental results of Siu and of the second author on the Lelong numbers of closed positive (1,1)-currents, and with a version of the hard Lefschetz theorem for pseudo-effective line bundles, due to Takegoshi and Demailly-Peternell-Schneider. In a similar vein, we show that a normal compact and Kähler 3-dimensional analytic space with terminal singularities and nef canonical bundle is a cyclic quotient of a simple non-projective torus if it carries no effective divisor. This is a crucial step to complete the bimeromorphic classification of compact Kähler 3-folds

Locally conformally Kahler metrics obtained from pseudoconvex shells

A locally conformally Kahler (LCK) manifold is a complex manifold admitting a Kahler covering M, such that its monodromy acts on this covering by homotheties. A compact LCK manifold is called LCK with potential if M admits an authomorphic Kahler potential. It is known that in this case it is an algebraic cone, that is, the set of all non-zero vectors in the total space of an anti-ample line bundle over a projective orbifold. We start with an algebraic cone C, and show that the set of Kahler metrics with potential which could arise from an LCK structure is in bijective correspondence with the set of pseudoconvex shells, that is, pseudoconvex hypersurfaces in C meeting each orbit of the associated R-action exactly once. This is used to produce explicit LCK and Vaisman metrics on Hopf manifolds, generalizing earlier work by Gauduchon-Ornea and Kamishima-Ornea.

Parabolic nef currents on hyperkaehler manifolds

Let M be a compact, holomorphically symplectic Kahler manifold, and $η$ a (1,1)-current which is nef (a limit of Kahler forms). Assume that the cohomology class of $η$ is parabolic, that is, its top power vanishes. We prove that all Lelong sets of $η$ are coisotropic. When M is generic, this is used to show that all Lelong numbers of $η$ vanish. We prove that any hyperkahler manifold with Pic(M) of rank 1 has non-trivial coisotropic subvarieties, if a generator of Pic(M) is parabolic.

Rational curves on hyperkahler manifolds

Let $M$ be an irreducible holomorphically symplectic manifold. We show that all faces of the Kahler cone of $M$ are hyperplanes $H_i$ orthogonal to certain homology classes, called monodromy birationally minimal (MBM) classes. Moreover, the Kahler cone is a connected component of a complement of the positive cone to the union of all $H_i$. We provide several characterizations of the MBM-classes. We show the invariance of MBM property by deformations, as long as the class in question stays of type (1,1). For hyperkahler manifolds with Picard group generated by a negative class $z$, we prove that $\pm z$ is Q-effective if and only if it is an MBM class. We also prove some results towards the Morrison-Kawamata cone conjecture for hyperkahler manifolds.

Teichmuller spaces, ergodic theory and global Torelli theorem

A Teichmüller space $Teich$ is a quotient of the space of all complex structures on a given manifold $M$ by the connected components of the group of diffeomorphisms. The mapping class group $Γ$ of $M$ is the group of connected components of the diffeomorphism group. The moduli problems can be understood as statements about the $Γ$-action on $Teich$. I will describe the mapping class group and the Teichmuller space for a hyperkahler manifold. It turns out that this action is ergodic. We use the ergodicity to show that a hyperkahler manifold is never Kobayashi hyperbolic. This is my ICM submission, with review of some of my work on Teichmuller spaces and moduli; proofs are sketched, new observations and some open problems added.

A global Torelli theorem for hyperkahler manifolds

A mapping class group of an oriented manifold is a quotient of its diffeomorphism group by the isotopies. We compute a mapping class group of a hypekahler manifold $M$, showing that it is commensurable to an arithmetic subgroup in SO(3, b_2-3). A Teichmuller space of $M$ is a space of complex structures on $M$ up to isotopies. We define a birational Teichmuller space by identifying certain points corresponding to bimeromorphically equivalent manifolds, and show that the period map gives an isomorphism of the birational Teichmuller space and the corresponding period space $SO(b_2-3, 3)/SO(2)\times SO(b_2 -3, 1)$. We use this result to obtain a Torelli theorem identifying any connected component of birational moduli space with a quotient of a period space by an arithmetic subgroup. When $M$ is a Hilbert scheme of $n$ points on a K3 surface, with $n-1$ a prime power, our Torelli theorem implies the usual Hodge-theoretic birational Torelli theorem (for other examples of hyperkahler manifolds the Hodge-theoretic Torelli theorem is known to be false).

Holomorphic Lagrangian fibrations on hypercomplex manifolds

A hypercomplex manifold is a manifold equipped with a triple of complex structures satisfying the quaternionic relations. A holomorphic Lagrangian variety on a hypercomplex manifold with trivial canonical bundle is a holomorphic subvariety which is calibrated by a form associated with the holomorphic volume form; this notion is a generalization of the usual holomorphic Lagrangian subvarieties known in hyperkaehler geometry. An HKT (hyperkaehler with torsion) metric on a hypercomplex manifold is a metric determined by a local potential, in a similar way to the Kaehler metric. We prove that a base of a holomorphic Lagrangian fibration is always Kaehler, if its total space is HKT. This is used to construct new examples of hypercomplex manifolds which do not admit an HKT structure.

Calibrations in hyperkahler geometry

We describe a family of calibrations arising naturally on a hyperkähler manifold $M$. These calibrations calibrate the holomorphic Lagrangian, holomorphic isotropic and holomorphic coisotropic subvarieties. When $M$ is an HKT (hyperkaehler with torsion) manifold with holonomy $SL(n, {\Bbb H})$, we construct another family of calibrations $Φ_i$, which calibrates holomorphic Lagrangian and holomorphic coisotropic subvarieties. The calibrations $Φ_i$ are (generally speaking) not parallel with respect to any torsion-free connection on $M$.

Families of Lagrangian fibrations on hyperkaehler manifolds

A holomorphic Lagrangian fibration on a holomorphically symplectic manifold is a holomorphic map with Lagrangian fibers. It is known that a given compact manifold admits only finitely many holomorphic symplectic structures, up to deformation. We prove that a given compact manifold with $b_2 \geq 7$ admits only finitely many deformation types of holomorphic Lagrangian fibrations. We also prove that all known hyperkahler manifolds are never Kobayashi hyperbolic.

Holography principle for twistor spaces

Let $S$ be a smooth rational curve on a complex manifold $M$. It is called ample if its normal bundle is positive. We assume that $M$ is covered by smooth holomorphic deformations of $S$. The basic example of such a manifold is a twistor space of a hyperkahler or a 4-dimensional anti-selfdual Riemannian manifold $X$ (not necessarily compact). We prove "a holography principle" for such a manifold: any meromorphic function defined in a neighbourhood $U$ of $S$ can be extended to $M$, and any section of a holomorphic line bundle can be extended from $U$ to $M$. This is used to define the notion of a Moishezon twistor space: this is a twistor space $\Tw(X)$ admitting a holomorphic embedding to a Moishezon variety $M'$. We show that this property is local on $X$, and the variety $M'$ is unique up to birational transform. We prove that the twistor spaces of hyperkahler manifolds obtained by hyperkahler reduction of flat quaternionic-Hermitian spaces by the action of reductive Lie groups (such as Nakajima's quiver varieties) are always Moishezon.

Hyperholomorphic sheaves and new examples of hyperkaehler manifolds

Given a compact hyperkaehler manifold $M$ and a holomorphic bundle B over $M$, we consider a Hermitian connection $\nabla$ on B which is compatible with all complex structures on $M$ induced by the hyperkaehler structure. Such a connection is unique, because it is Yang-Mills. We call the bundles admitting such connections hyperholomorphic bundles. A stable bundle is hyperholomorphic if and only if its Chern classes $c_1$, $c_2$ are SU(2)-invariant, with respect to the natural SU(2)-action on the cohomology. For several years, it was known that the moduli space of stable hyperholomorphic bundles is singular hyperkaehler. More recently, it was proven that singular hyperkaehler varieties admit a canonical hyperkaehler desingularization. In the present paper, we show that a moduli space of stable hyperholomorphic bundles is compact, given some assumptions on Chern classes of B and hyperkaehler geometry of $M$ (we also require $dim_C M>2$). Conjecturally, this leads to new examples of hyperkaehler manifolds. We develop the theory of hyperholomorphic sheaves, which are (intuitively speaking) coherent sheaves compatible with hyperkaehler structure. We show that hyperholomorphic sheaves with isolated singularities can be canonically desingularized by a blow-up. This theory is used to study degenerations of hyperholomorphic bundles.

Pseudoholomorphic curves on nearly Kahler manifolds

Let M be an almost complex manifold equipped with a Hermitian form such that its de Rham differential has Hodge type (3,0)+(0,3), for example a nearly Kahler manifold. We prove that any connected component of the moduli space of pseudoholomorphic curves on M is compact. This can be used to study pseudoholomorphic curves on a 6-dimensional sphere with the standard (G_2-invariant) almost complex structure.

Rational curves and special metrics on twistor spaces

A Hermitian metric $ω$ on a complex manifold is called SKT or pluriclosed if $dd^cω=0$. Let M be a twistor space of a compact, anti-selfdual Riemannian manifold, admitting a pluriclosed Hermitian metric. We prove that in this case M is Kähler, hence isomorphic to $\C P^3$ or a flag space. This result is obtained from rational connectedness of the twistor space, due to F. Campana. As an aside, we prove that the moduli space of rational curves on the twistor space of a K3 surface is Stein.

Subvarieties of hypercomplex manifolds with holonomy in SL(n,H)

A hypercomplex manifold M is a manifold with a triple I,J,K of complex structure operators satisfying quaternionic relations. For each quaternion L=aI +bJ+cK, L^2=-1, L is also a complex structure operator on M, called an induced complex structure. We are studying compact complex subvarieties of (M,L), when L is a generic induced complex structure. Under additional assumptions (Obata holonomy contained in SL(n,H), existence of an HKT metric), we prove that (M,L) contains no divisors, and all complex subvarieties of codimension 2 are trianalytic (that is, also hypercomplex).

Blow-ups of locally conformally Kahler manifolds

A locally conformally Kahler (LCK) manifold is a manifold which is covered by a Kahler manifold, with the deck transform group acting by homotheties. We show that the blow-up of a compact LCK manifold along a complex submanifold admits an LCK structure if and only if this submanifold is globally conformally Kahler. We also prove that a twistor space (of a compact 4-manifold, a quaternion-Kahler manifold or a Riemannian m anifold) cannot admit an LCK metric, unless it is Kahler.

Hodge theory on nearly Kaehler manifolds

Let (M,I, ω, Ω) be a nearly Kaehler 6-manifold, that is, an SU(3)-manifold with the (3,0)-form Ωand the Hermitian form ωwhich satisfies $dω=3λ\ReΩ, d\ImΩ=-2λω^2$, for a non-zero real constant λ. We develop an analogue of Kaehler relations on M, proving several useful identities for various intrinsic Laplacians on M. When M is compact, these identities bring powerful results about cohomology of M. We show that harmonic forms on M admit the Hodge decomposition, and prove that H^{p,q}(M)=0 unless p=q or (p=1, q=2) or (p=2, q=1).

Hyperholomorpic connections on coherent sheaves and stability

Let $M$ be a hyperkaehler manifold, and $F$ a torsion-free and reflexive coherent sheaf on $M$. Assume that $F$ (outside of its singularities) admits a connection with a curvature which is invariant under the standard SU(2)-action on 2-forms. If the curvature is square-integrable, then $F$ is stable and its singularities are hyperkaehler subvarieties in $M$. Such sheaves (called hyperholomorphic sheaves) are well understood. In the present paper, we study sheaves admitting a connection with SU(2)-invariant curvature which is not necessarily square-integrable. This situation arises often, for instance, when one deals with higher direct images of holomorphic bundles. We show that such sheaves are stable.

Moduli spaces of framed instanton bundles on CP^3 and twistor sections of moduli spaces of instantons on C^2

We show that the moduli space $M$ of holomorphic vector bundles on $CP^3$ that are trivial along a line is isomorphic (as a complex manifold) to a subvariety in the moduli of rational curves of the twistor space of the moduli space of framed instantons on $\R^4$, called the space of twistor sections. We then use this characterization to prove that $M$ is equipped with a torsion-free affine connection with holonomy in $Sp(2n,\C)$.

Oeljeklaus-Toma manifolds admitting no complex subvarieties

The Oeljeklaus-Toma (OT-) manifolds are complex manifolds constructed by Oeljeklaus and Toma from certain number fields, and generalizing the Inoue surfaces $S_m$. On each OT-manifold we construct a holomorphic line bundle with semipositive curvature form and trivial Chern class. Using this form, we prove that the OT-manifolds admitting a locally conformally Kahler structure have no non-trivial complex subvarieties. The proof is based on the Strong Approximation theorem for number fields, which implies that any leaf of the null-foliation of w is Zariski dense.

Automorphisms of locally conformally Kahler manifolds

A manifold M is locally conformally Kahler (LCK) if it admits a Kahler covering with monodromy acting by holomorphic homotheties. For a compact connected group G acting on an LCK manifold by holomorphic automorphisms, an averaging procedure gives a G-invariant LCK metric. Suppose that U(1) acts on an LCK manifold M by holomorphic isometries, and the lifting of this action to the Kahler cover of M is not isometric. We show that the cover admits an automorphic Kahler potential, and hence can be embedded to a Hopf manifold.

Stable bundles on hypercomplex surfaces

A hypercomplex manifold is a manifold equipped with three complex structures I, J, K satisfying the quaternionic relations. Let M be a 4-dimensional compact smooth manifold equipped with a hypercomplex structure, and E be a vector bundle on M. We show that the moduli space of anti-self-dual connections on E is also hypercomplex, and admits a strong HKT metric. We also study manifolds with (4,4)-supersymmetry, that is, Riemannian manifolds equipped with a pair of strong HKT-structures that have opposite torsion. In the language of Hitchin's and Gualtieri's generalized complex geometry, (4,4)-manifolds are called ``generalized hyperkaehler manifolds''. We show that the moduli space of anti-self-dual connections on M is a (4,4)-manifold if M is equipped with a (4,4)-structure.

Topology of locally conformally Kahler manifolds with potential

Locally conformally Kahler (LCK) manifolds with potential are those which admit a Kahler covering with a proper, automorphic Kaehler potential. Existence of a potential can be characterized cohomologically as a vanishing of a certain cohomology class, called the Bott-Chern class. Compact LCK manifolds with potential are stable at small deformations and admit holomorphic embeddings into Hopf manifolds. This class strictly includes the Vaisman manifolds. We show that every compact LCK manifold with potential can be deformed into a Vaisman manifold. Therefore, every such manifold is diffeomorphic to a smooth elliptic fibration over a Kahler orbifold. We show that the pluricanonical condition on LCK manifolds introduced by G. Kokarev is equivalent to vanishing of the Bott-Chern class. This gives a simple proof of some of the results on topology of pluricanonical LCK-manifolds, discovered by Kokarev and Kotschick.

Manifolds with parallel differential forms and Kaehler identities for G_2-manifolds

Let M be a compact Riemannian manifold equipped with a parallel differential form ω. We prove a version of Kaehler identities in this setting. This is used to show that the de Rham algebra of M is weakly equivalent to its subquotient $(H^*_c(M), d)$, called {\bf the pseudocohomology} of M. When M is compact and Kaehler and ωis its Kaehler form, $(H^*_c(M), d)$ is isomorphic to the cohomology algebra of M. This gives another proof of homotopy formality for Kaehler manifolds, originally shown by Deligne, Griffiths, Morgan and Sullivan. We compute $H^i_c(M)$ for a compact G_2-manifold, showing that it is isomorphic to cohomology unless i=3,4. For i=3,4, we compute $H^*_c(M)$ explicitly in terms of the first order differential operator $*d: Λ^3(M)\arrow Λ^3(M)$.

Morse-Novikov cohomology of locally conformally Kähler manifolds

A locally conformally Kahler (LCK) manifold is a complex manifold admitting a Kahler covering, with the monodromy acting on this covering by homotheties. We define three cohomology invariants, the Lee class, the Morse-Novikov class, and the Bott-Chern class, of an LCK-structure. These invariants together play the same role as the Kahler class in Kahler geometry. If these classes for two LCK-structures coincide, the difference between these structures can be expressed by a smooth potential, similar to the Kahler case. We show that the Morse-Novikov class and the Bott-Chern class of a Vaisman manifold vanishes. Moreover, for any LCK-structure on a Vaisman manifold, we prove that its Morse-Novikov class vanishes. We show that a compact LCK-manifold $M$ with vanishing Bott-Chern class admits a holomorphic embedding to a Hopf manifold, if $\dim_\C M \geq 3$, a result which parallels the Kodaira embedding theorem.

Plurisubharmonic functions in calibrated geometry and q-convexity

Let $(M,ω)$ be a Kahler manifold. An integrable function on M is called $ω^q$-plurisubharmonic if it is subharmonic on all q-dimensional complex subvarieties. We prove that a smooth $ω^q$-plurisubharmonic function is q-convex. A continuous $ω^q$-plurisubharmonic function admits a local approximation by smooth, $ω^q$-plurisubharmonic functions. For any closed subvariety $Z\subset M$, $\dim Z < q$, there exists a strictly $ω^q$-plurisubharmonic function in a neighbourhood of $Z$ (this result is known for q-convex functions). This theorem is used to give a new proof of Sibony's lemma on integrability of positive closed (p,p)-forms which are integrable outside of a complex subvariety of codimension >p.

Positive forms on hyperkahler manifolds

Let $(M,I,J,K)$ be a hyperkaehler manifold, $\dim_\R M =4n$. We study positive, Dolbeault-closed $(2p,0)$-forms on $(M,I)$. These forms are quaternionic analogues of the positive $(p,p)$-forms. We construct an injective homomorphism mapping Dolbeault-closed $(2p,0)$-forms to closed $(n+p,n+p)$-forms, and positive $(2p,0)$-forms to positive $(n+p,n+p)$-forms. This construction is used to prove a hyperkaehler version of the classical Skoda-El Mir theorem, which says that a trivial extension of a closed, positive current over a pluripolar set is again closed. We also prove the hyperkaehler version of the Sibony's lemma, showing that a closed, positive $(2p,0)$-form defined outside of a compact complex subvariety $Z\subset (M,I)$, $\codim Z > 2p$ is locally integrable in a neighbourhood of $Z$. These results are used to prove polystability of derived direct images of certain coherent sheaves.

Positive toric fibrations

A principal toric bundle $M$ is a complex manifold equipped with a free holomorphic action of a compact complex torus $T$. Such a manifold is fibered over $M/T$, with fiber $T$. We discuss the notion of positivity in fiber bundles and define positive toric bundles. Given an irreducible complex subvariety $X\subset M$ of a positive principal toric bundle, we show that either $X$ is $T$-invariant, or it lies in an orbit of $T$-action. For principal elliptic bundles, this theorem is known (math.AG/0403430). As follows from Borel-Remmert-Tits theorem, any compact simply connected homogeneous complex manifold is a principal toric bundle. We show that compact Lie groups with left-invariant complex structure $I$ are positive toric bundles, if $I$ is generic. Other examples of positive toric bundles are discussed.

Quaternionic Monge-Ampere equation and Calabi problem for HKT-manifolds

A quaternionic version of the Calabi problem on Monge-Ampere equation is introduced. It is a quaternionic Monge-Ampere equation on a compact hypercomplex manifold with an HKT-metric. The equation is non-linear elliptic of second order. For a hypercomplex manifold with holonomy in SL(n;H), uniqueness (up to a constant) of a solution is proven, as well as the zero order a priori estimate. The existence of solution is conjectured, similar to Calabi-Yau theorem. We reformulate this quaternionic equation as a special case of a complex Hessian equation, making sense on any complex manifold.

Locally conformally Kaehler manifolds with potential

A locally conformally Kähler (LCK) manifold $M$ is one which is covered by a Kähler manifold $\tilde M$ with the deck transform group acting conformally on $\tilde M$. If $M$ admits a holomorphic flow, acting on $\tilde M$ conformally, it is called a Vaisman manifold. Neither the class of LCK manifolds nor that of Vaisman manifolds is stable under small deformations. We define a new class of LCK-manifolds, called LCK manifolds with potential, which is closed under small deformations. All Vaisman manifolds are LCK with potential. We show that an LCK-manifold with potential admits a covering which can be compactified to a Stein variety by adding one point. This is used to show that any LCK manifold M with potential, $\dim M > 2$, can be embedded to a Hopf manifold, thus improving on similar results for Vaisman. manifolds.
