Delayed and rushed motions through time change

We introduce a definition of delayed and rushed processes in terms of lifetimes of base processes and time-changed base processes. Then, we consider time changes given by subordinators and their inverse processes. Our analysis shows that, quite surprisingly, time-changing with inverse subordinators does not necessarily imply delay of the base process. Moreover, time-changing with subordinators does not necessarily imply rushed base process.

Fractional SIS epidemic models

In this paper we consider the fractional SIS epidemic model ($α$-SIS model) in the case of constant population size. We provide a representation of the explicit solution to the fractional model and we illustrate the results by numerical schemes. A comparison with the limit case when the fractional order $α\uparrow 1$ (the SIS model) is also given. We analyse the effects of the fractional derivatives by comparing the SIS and the $α$-SIS models.

Spectral functions related to some fractional stochastic differential equations

In this paper we consider fractional higher-order stochastic differential equations of the form \begin{align*} \left( μ+ c_α\frac{d^α}{d(-t)^α} \right)^βX(t) = \mathcal{E}(t) , \quad t\geq 0,\; μ>0,\; β>0,\; α\in (0,1) \cup \mathbb{N} \end{align*} where $\mathcal{E}(t)$ is a Gaussian white noise. We derive stochastic processes satisfying the above equations of which we obtain explicitly the covariance functions and the spectral functions.

Discussion on the paper "On Simulation and Properties of the Stable Law" by L. Devroye and L. James

We congratulate the authors for the interesting paper. The reading has been really pleasant and instructive. We discuss briefly only some of the interesting results given in Devroye and James "On simulation and properties of the stable law", 2014 with particular attention to evolution problems. The contribution of the results collected in the paper is useful in a more wide class of applications in many areas of applied mathematics.

Fractional Poisson process with random drift

We study the connection between PDEs and Lévy processes running with clocks given by time-changed Poisson processes with stochastic drifts. The random times we deal with are therefore given by time-changed Poissonian jumps related to some Frobenious-Perron operators $K$ associated to random translations. Moreover, we also consider their hitting times as a random clock. Thus, we study processes driven by equations involving time-fractional operators (modelling memory) and fractional powers of the difference operator $I-K$ (modelling jumps). For this large class of processes we also provide, in some cases, the explicit representation of the transition probability laws. To this aim, we show that a special role is played by the translation operator associated to the representation of the Poisson semigroup.

Coordinate changed random fields on manifolds

We introduce a class of time dependent random fields on compact Riemannian monifolds. These are represented by time-changed Brownian motions. These processes are time-changed diffusion, or the stochastic solution to the equation involving the Laplace-Beltrami operator and a time-fractional derivative of order $β\in (0,1)$. The time dependent random fields we present in this work can therefore be realized through composition and can be viewed as random fields on randomly varying manifolds.

Higher-order Laplace equations and hyper-Cauchy distributions

In this paper we introduce new distributions which are solutions of higher-order Laplace equations. It is proved that their densities can be obtained by folding and symmetrizing Cauchy distributions. Another class of probability laws related to higher-order Laplace equations is obtained by composing pseudo-processes with positively-skewed Cauchy distributions which produce asymmetric Cauchy densities in the odd-order case. A special attention is devoted to the third-order Laplace equation where the connection between the Cauchy distribution and the Airy functions is obtained and analyzed.

Time-changed processes governed by space-time fractional telegraph equations

In this work we construct compositions of processes of the form \bm{S}_n^{2β}(c^2 \mathpzc{L}^ν(t) \r, t>0, ν\in (0, 1/2], β\in (0,1], n \in \mathbb{N}, whose distribution is related to space-time fractional n-dimensional telegraph equations. We present within a unifying framework the pde connections of n-dimensional isotropic stable processes \bm{S}_n^{2β} whose random time is represented by the inverse \mathpzc{L}^ν(t), t>0, of the superposition of independent positively-skewed stable processes, \mathpzc{H}^ν(t) = H_1^{2ν} (t) + (2λ\r^{\frac{1}ν} H_2^ν(t), t>0, (H_1^{2ν}, H_2^ν, independent stable subordinators). As special cases for n=1, ν= 1/2 and β= 1 we examine the telegraph process T at Brownian time B (Orsingher and Beghin) and establish the equality in distribution B (c^2 \mathpzc{L}^{1/2} (t)) \stackrel{\textrm{law}}{=} T (|B(t)|), t>0. Furthermore the iterated Brownian motion (Allouba and Zheng) and the two-dimensional motion at finite velocity with a random time are investigated. For all these processes we present their counterparts as Brownian motion at delayed stable-distributed time.

From Sturm-Liouville problems to fractional and anomalous diffusions

Some fractional and anomalous diffusions are driven by equations involving fractional derivatives in both time and space. Such diffusions are processes with randomly varying times. In representing the solutions to those diffusions, the explicit laws of certain stable processes turn out to be fundamental. This paper directs one's efforts towards the explicit representation of solutions to fractional and anomalous diffusions related to Sturm-Liouville problems of fractional order associated to fractional power function spaces. Furthermore, we study a new version of the Bochner's subordination rule and we establish some connections between subordination and space-fractional operator

Probabilistic representation of fundamental solutions to $\frac{\partial u}{\partial t} = κ_m \frac{\partial^m u}{\partial x^m}$

For the fundamental solutions of heat-type equations of order $n$ we give a general stochastic representation in terms of damped oscillations with generalized gamma distributed parameters. By composing the pseudo-process $X_n$ related to the higher-order heat-type equation with positively skewed stable r.v.'s $T^j_{1/3}$, $j=1,2, ..., n$ we obtain genuine r.v.'s whose explicit distribution is given for $n=3$ in terms of Cauchy asymmetric laws. We also prove that $X_3(T^1_{1/3}(...(T^n_{(1/3)}(t))...))$ has a stable asymmetric law.

Time dependent random fields on spherical non-homogeneous surfaces

We introduce a class of isotropic time dependent random fields on the non-homogeneous sphere represented by a time-changed spherical Brownian motion of order ν\in (0,1] with which some anisotrophies can be captured in Cosmology. This process is a time-changed rotational diffusion (TRD) or the stochastic solution to the equation involving the spherical Laplace operator and a time-fractional derivative of order ν. TRD is a diffusion on the non-homogeneous sphere and therefore, the spherical coordinates given by TRD represent the coordinates of a non-homogeneous sphere by means of which an isotopic random field is indexed. The time dependent random fields we present in this work is therefore realized through composition and can be viewed as isotropic random field on randomly varying sphere.

Wright functions governed by fractional directional derivatives and fractional advection diffusion equations

We consider fractional directional derivatives and establish some connection with stable densities. Solutions to advection equations involving fractional directional derivatives are presented and some properties investigated. In particular we obtain solutions written in terms of Wright functions by exploiting operational rules involving the shift operator. We also consider fractional advection diffusion equations involving fractional powers of the negative Laplace operator and directional derivatives of fractional order and discuss the probabilistic interpretations of solutions.
