Classifying deviation from standard quantum behavior using Kullback Leibler divergence

In this letter, we propose a novel statistical method to measure which system is better suited to probe small deviations from the usual quantum behavior. Such deviations are motivated by a number of theoretical and phenomenological motivations, and various systems have been proposed to test them. We propose that measuring deviations from quantum mechanics for a system would be easier if it has a higher Kullback Leibler divergence. We show this explicitly for a nonlocal Schrodinger equation and argue that it will hold for any modification to standard quantum behaviour. Thus, the results of this letter can be used to classify a wide range of theoretical and phenomenological models.

Quantum Thermodynamics of a Quantum Sized AdS Black Hole

In this paper, we investigate the effects of non-perturbative quantum gravitational corrections on a quantum sized AdS black hole. It will be observed that these non-perturbative quantum gravitational corrections modify the stability of this black hole. We will use the non-equilibrium quantum thermodynamics to investigate the evaporation of this black hole between two states. We will analyze the effects of non-perturbative quantum gravitational corrections on this non-equilibrium quantum thermodynamics. We will explicitly obtain the quantum work distribution for this black hole, as it evaporates between two states. It will be observed that this quantum work distribution is modified due to non-perturbative quantum gravitational corrections.

Quantum Thermodynamics of an M2-M5 Brane System

We will investigate a system of M2-M5 branes as a black M2-M5 bound state. The behavior of this system will be investigated at short distances. At such scales, we will have to incorporate quantum gravitational corrections to the supergravity solutions. We will study the non-equilibrium quantum thermodynamics of this black M2-M5 bound state. The quantum work for this solution will be obtained using the Jarzynski equality. We will also study the corrections to the thermodynamic stability of this system from quantum gravitational corrections. We will use the concept of a novel quantum mass to analyze the quantum gravitational corrections to the information geometry of this system. This will be done using effective quantum metrics for this system.

A Quantum Informational Approach to the Problem of Time

Several novel approaches have been proposed to resolve the problem of time by relating it to change. We argue using quantum information theory that the Hamiltonian constraint in quantum gravity cannot probe change, so it cannot be used to obtain a meaningful notion of time. This is due to the absence of quantum Fisher information with respect to the quantum Hamiltonian of a time-reparametization invariant system. We also observe that the inability of this Hamiltonian to probe change can be related to its inability to discriminate between states of such a system. However, if the time-reparametization symmetry is spontaneously broken due to the formation of quantum cosmological time crystals, these problems can be resolved, and it is possible for time to emerge in quantum gravity.

Construction of Quantum Target Space from World-Sheet States using Quantum State Tomography

In this paper, we will construct the quantum states of target space coordinates from world-sheet states, using quantum state tomography. To perform quantum state tomography of an open string, we will construct suitable quadrature operators. We do this by first defining the quadrature operators in world-sheet, and then using them to construct the quantum target space quadrature operators for an open string. We will connect the quantum target space to classical geometry using coherent string states. We will be using a novel construction based on a string displacement operator to construct these coherent states. The coherent states of the world-sheet will also be used to construct the coherent states in target space.

Effects of discrete topology on quantum transport across a graphene $n-p-n$ junction: A quantum gravity analogue

In this article, we investigate the effect of next-to-the-nearest atom hopping on Klein tunnelling in graphene. An effective quantum dynamics equation is obtained based on an emergent generalized Dirac structure by analyzing the tight-binding model beyond the linear regime. We show that this structure has some interesting theoretical properties. First, it can be used to simplify quantum transport calculations used to characterize Klein tunnelling; second, it is not Chirally symmetric as hinted by previous work. Finally, it is reminiscent of theories on a space with a discrete topology. Exploiting these properties, we show that the discrete topology of the crystal lattice has an effect on the Klein tunnelling, which can be experimentally probed by measuring the transmittance through $n-p-n$ junctions. We argue that this simulates quantum gravitational analogues using graphene and we propose an experiment to perform such measurements.

The large scale structure formation in an expanding universe

In this paper, we analyze the effects of expansion on large scale structure formation in our Universe. We do that by incorporating a cosmological constant term in the gravitational partition function. This gravitational partition function with a cosmological constant is used for analyzing the thermodynamics of this system. We analyze the virial expansion for this system, and obtain its equation of state. It is observed that the generalization of this equation of state is like the Van der Waals equation. We also analyze a gravitational phase transition in this system using the mean field theory. We construct the cosmic energy equation for this system of galaxies, and discuss its consequences. We obtain and analyze the distribution function for this system, using the gravitational partition function. We also compare the results obtained in this paper with the observational data.

Five-Dimensional Yang-Mills Black Holes in Massive Gravity's Rainbow

In this paper, we will analyze a five-dimensional Yang-Mills black hole solution in massive gravity's rainbow. We will also investigate the flow of such a solution with scale. Then, we will discuss the scale dependence of the thermodynamics for this black hole. Also, we study the criticality in the extended phase space by treating the cosmological constant as the thermodynamics pressure of this black hole solution. Moreover, we will use the partition function for this solution to obtaining corrections to the thermodynamics of this system and examine their key role on the behavior of corrected solutions.

Proposed experimental test of Randall-Sundrum Models

The Randall-Sundrum models are expected to modify the short distance behavior of general relativity. In this paper, we will propose an experimental test for this short distance modification due to Randall-Sundrum models. This will be done by analyzing motion of a particle which is moving in spherical gravitational field with a drag force. The position at which the particle stops will be different in general relativity and Randall-Sundrum model. This difference in the distance moved by the particle before stopping can be measured using a Nanoelectromechanical setup. Thus, it is possible to experimentally test Randall-Sundrum models using currently available technology.

Quantum corrections to a finite temperature BIon

In this paper, we will analyze a finite temperature BIon, which is a finite temperature brane-anti-brane wormhole configuration. We will analyze the quantum fluctuations to this BIon solution using the Euclidean quantum gravity. It will be observed that these quantum fluctuations produce logarithmic corrections to the entropy of this finite temperature BIon solution. These corrections to the entropy also correct the internal energy and the specific heat for this finite temperature BIon. We will also analyze the critical points for this finite temperature BIonic system, and analyze the effects of quantum corrections on the stability of this system.

Charged scalar quasi-normal modes for higher-dimensional Born-Infeld dilatonic black holes with Lifshitz scaling

We study quasi-normal modes for a higher dimensional black hole with Lifshitz scaling, as these quasi-normal modes can be used to test Lifshitz models with large extra dimensions. Furthermore, as the effective Planck scale is brought down in many models with large extra dimensions, we study these quasi-normal modes for a UV completion action. Thus, we analyze quasi-normal modes for higher dimensional dilaton-Lifshitz black hole solutions coupled to a non-linear Born-Infeld action. We will analyze the charged perturbations for such a black hole solution. We will first analyze the general conditions for stability analytically, for a positive potential. Then, we analyze this system for a charged perturbation as well as negative potential, using the asymptotic iteration method for quasi-normal modes. Thus, we analyze the behavior of these modes numerically.

Low Energy Consequences of Loop Quantum Gravity

As the loop quantum gravity is based on polymer quantization, we will argue that the polymer length (like string length) can be several orders larger than the Planck length, and this can have low energy consequences. We will demonstrate that a short distance modification of a quantum system by polymer quantization and by string theoretical considerations can produce similar behavior. Moreover, it will be demonstrated that a family of different deformed Heisenberg algebras can produce similar low energy effects. We will analyze such polymer correction to a degenerate Fermi gases in a harmonic trap, and its polymer corrected thermodynamics.

Operator Ordering Ambiguity and Third Quantization

In this paper, we will constrain the operator ordering ambiguity of Wheeler-DeWitt equation by analyzing the quantum fluctuations in the universe. This will be done using a third quantized formalism. It is expected that the early stages of the universe are dominated by quantum fluctuations. Furthermore, it is also expected that these quantum fluctuations get suppressed with the expansion of the universe. We will show that this desired behavior of quantum fluctuations could be realized by a wide ranges of the factor ordering parameters. We will examined two different cosmological models, and observe that a similar range of factor ordering parameters produces this desired behavior in both those cosmological models.

Universality of Short Distance Corrections to Quantum Optics

As quantum optical phenomena are based on Maxwell's equations, and it is becoming important to understand quantum optical phenomena at short distances, so it is important to analyze quantum optics using short distance corrected Maxwell's equation. Maxwell's action can be obtained from quantum electrodynamics using the framework of effective field theory, and so the leading order short distance corrections to Maxwell's action can also be obtained from the derivative expansion of the same effective field theory. Such short distance corrections will be universal for all quantum optical systems, and they will effect all short distance quantum optical phenomena. In this paper, we will analyze the form of such corrections, and demonstrate the standard formalism of quantum optics can still be used (with suitable modifications), to analyze quantum optical phenomena from this short distance corrected Maxwell's actions.

Generalized Uncertainty Principle as a Consequence of the Effective Field Theory

We will demonstrate that the generalized uncertainty principle exists because of the derivative expansion in the effective field theories. This is because, in the framework of the effective field theories, the minimum measurable length scale has to be integrated away to obtain the low energy effective action. We will analyze the deformation of a massive free scalar field theory by the generalized uncertainty principle, and demonstrate that the minimum measurable length scale corresponds to a second more massive scale in the theory, which has been integrated away. We will also analyze CFT operators dual to this deformed scalar field theory, and observe that scaling of the new CFT operators indicates that they are dual to this more massive scale in the theory. We will use holographic renormalization to explicitly calculate the renormalized boundary action with counterterms for this scalar field theory deformed by the generalized uncertainty principle and show that the generalized uncertainty principle contributes to the matter conformal anomaly.

A Logarithmic Correction in the Entropy Functional Formalism

The entropy functional formalism allows one to recover general relativity, modified gravity theories, as well as the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy formula. In most approaches to quantum gravity, the Bekenstein-Hawking's entropy formula acquires a logarithmic correction term. As such terms occur almost universally in most approaches to quantum gravity, we analyze the effect of such terms on the entropy functional formalism. We demonstrate that the leading correction to the micro-canonical entropy in the entropy functional formalism can be used to recover modified theories of gravity already obtained with an uncorrected micro-canonical entropy. Furthermore, since the entropy functional formalism reproduces modified gravity, the rise of gravity-dependent logarithmic corrections turns out to be one way to impose constraints on these theories of modified gravity. The constraints found here for the simple case of an F(R)-gravity are the same as those obtained in the literature from cosmological considerations.

Black Hole Thermodynamics in MOdified Gravity (MOG)

We analyze the thermodynamical properties of black holes in a modified theory of gravity, which was initially proposed to obtain correct dynamics of galaxies and galaxy clusters without dark matter. The thermodynamics of non-rotating and rotating black hole solutions resembles similar solutions in Einstein-Maxwell theory with the electric charge being replaced by a new mass dependent gravitational charge $Q = \sqrt{αG_N}M$. This new mass dependent charge modifies the effective Newtonian constant from $G_N$ to $G = G_N(1+α)$, and this in turn critically affects the thermodynamics of the black holes. We also investigate the thermodynamics of regular solutions, and explore the limiting case when no horizons forms. So, it is possible that the modified gravity can lead to the absence of black hole horizons in our universe. Finally, we analyze corrections to the thermodynamics of a non-rotating black hole and obtain the usual logarithmic correction term.

Branes in Gravity's Rainbow

In this work, we investigate the thermodynamics of black $p$-branes (BB) in the context of Gravity's Rainbow. We investigate this using rainbow functions that have been motivated from loop quantum gravity and $κ$-Minkowski noncommutative spacetime. Then for the sake of comparison, we examine a couple of other rainbow functions that have also appeared in the literature. We show that, for consistency, Gravity's Rainbow imposes a constraint on the minimum mass of the BB, a constraint that we interpret here as implying the existence of a black $p$-brane remnant. This interpretation is supported by the computation of the black $p$-brane's heat capacity that shows that the latter vanishes when the Schwarzschild radius takes on a value that is bigger than its extremal limit. We found that the same conclusion is reached for the third version of rainbow functions treated here but not with the second one for which only standard black $p$-brane thermodynamics is recovered.

Charged Dilatonic Black Holes in Gravity's Rainbow

In this paper, we present charged dilatonic black holes in gravity's rainbow. We study geometric and thermodynamic properties of black hole solutions. We also investigate the effects of rainbow functions on different thermodynamic quantities for these charged black holes in dilatonic gravity's rainbow. Then, we demonstrate that first law of thermodynamics is valid for these solutions. After that, we investigate thermal stability of the solutions using canonical ensemble and analyze the effects of different rainbow functions on thermal stability. In addition, we present some arguments regarding the bound and phase transition points in context of geometrical thermodynamics. We also study the phase transition in extended phase space in which cosmological constant is treated as the thermodynamic pressure. Finally, we use another approach to calculate and demonstrate that obtained critical points in extended phase space are representing a second order phase transition for these black holes.

Clustering of Galaxies in Brane World Models

In this paper, we analyze the clustering of galaxies using a modified Newtonian potential. This modification of the Newtonian potential occurs due to the existence of extra dimensions in brane world models. We will analyze a system of galaxies interacting with each other through this modified Newtonian potential. The partition function for this system of galaxies will be calculated, and this partition function will be used to calculate the free energy of this system of galaxies. The entropy and the chemical potential for this system will also be calculated. We will derive explicit expression for the clustering parameter for this system. This parameter will determine the behavior of this system, and we will be able to express various thermodynamic quantities using this clustering parameter. Thus, we will be able to explicitly analyze the effect that modifying the Newtonian potential can have on the clustering of galaxies. We also analyze the effect of extra dimensions on the two-point functions between galaxies.

Constraints on Operator Ordering from Third Quantization

In this paper, we analyse the Wheeler-DeWitt equation in the third quantized formalism. We will demonstrate that for certain operator ordering, the early stages of the universe are dominated by quantum fluctuations, and the universe becomes classical at later stages during the cosmic expansion. This is physically expected, if the universe is formed from quantum fluctuations in the third quantized formalism. So, we will argue that this physical requirement can be used to constrain the form of the operator ordering chosen. We will explicitly demonstrate this to be the case for two different cosmological models.

Cosmological Constant from a Deformation of the Wheeler-DeWitt Equation

In this paper, we consider the Wheeler-DeWitt equation modified by a deformation of the second quantized canonical commutation relations. Such modified commutation relations are induced by a Generalized Uncertainty Principle. Since the Wheeler-DeWitt equation can be related to a Sturm-Liouville problem where the associated eigenvalue can be interpreted as the cosmological constant, it is possible to explicitly relate such an eigenvalue to the deformation parameter of the corresponding Wheeler-DeWitt equation. The analysis is performed in a Mini-Superspace approach where the scale factor appears as the only degree of freedom. The deformation of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation gives rise to a Cosmological Constant even in absence of matter fields. As a Cosmological Constant cannot exists in absence of the matter fields in the undeformed Mini-Superspace approach, so the existence of a non-vanishing Cosmological Constant is a direct consequence of the deformation by the Generalized Uncertainty Principle. In fact, we are able to demonstrate that a non-vanishing Cosmological Constant exists even in the deformed flat space. We also discuss the consequences of this deformation on the big bang singularity.

Critical behavior of charged black holes in Gauss-Bonnet gravity`s rainbow

Following an earlier study regarding Gauss-Bonnet-Maxwell black holes in the presence of gravity's rainbow [S. H. Hendi and M. Faizal, Phys. Rev. D 92, 044027 (2015)], in this paper, we will consider all constants as energy dependent ones. The geometrical and thermodynamical properties of this generalization are studied and the validation of the first law of thermodynamics is examined. Next, through the use of proportionality between cosmological constant and thermodynamical pressure, van der Waals-like behavior of these black holes in extended phase space is investigated. An interesting critical behavior for sets of rainbow functions in this case is reported. Also, the critical behavior of uncharged and charged solutions is analyzed and it is shown that the generalization to a charged case puts an energy dependent restriction on values of different parameters.

Cyclic and heteroclinic flows near general static spherically symmetric black holes

We investigate the Michel-type accretion onto a static spherically symmetric black hole. Using a Hamiltonian dynamical approach, we show that the standard method employed for tackling the accretion problem has masked some properties of the fluid flow. We determine new analytical solutions that are neither transonic nor supersonic as the fluid approaches the horizon(s); rather, they remain subsonic for all values of the radial coordinate. Moreover, the three velocity vanishes and the pressure diverges on the horizon(s), resulting in a flowout of the fluid under the effect of its own pressure. This is in favor of an earlier prediction that pressure-dominant regions form near the horizon. This result does not depend on the form of the metric and it applies to a neighborhood of any horizon where the time coordinate is timelike. For anti-de Sitter-like $\text{f}(R)$ black holes we discuss the stability of the critical flow and determine separatrix heteroclinic orbits. For de Sitter-like $\text{f}(R)$ black holes, we construct polytropic cyclic, non-homoclinic, physical flows connecting the two horizons. These flows become non-relativistic for Hamiltonian values higher than the critical value allowing for a good estimate of the proper period of the flow.

Effect of Thermal Fluctuations on a Charged Dilatonic Black Saturn

In this paper, we will analyze the effect of thermal fluctuations on the thermodynamics of a charged dilatonic black Saturn. These thermal fluctuations will correct the thermodynamics of the charged dilatonic black Saturn. We will analyze the corrections to the thermodynamics of this system by first relating the fluctuations in the entropy to the fluctuations in the energy. Then, we will use the relation between entropy and a conformal field theory to analyze the fluctuations in the entropy. We will demonstrate that similar physical results are obtained from both these approaches. We will also study the effect of thermal fluctuations on the phase transition in this charged dilatonic black Saturn.

Effects of Cosmological Constant on Clustering of Galaxies

In this paper, we analyse the effect of the expansion of the universe on the clustering of galaxies. We evaluate the configurational integral for interacting system of galaxies in an expanding universe by including effects produced by the cosmological constant. The gravitational partition function is obtained using this configuration integral. Thermodynamic quantities, specifically, Helmholtz free energy, entropy, internal energy, pressure and chemical potential are also derived for this system. It is observed that they depend on the modified clustering parameter for this system of galaxies. It is also demonstrated that these thermodynamical quantities get corrected because of the cosmological constant.

Effects of Thermal Fluctuations on the Thermodynamics of Modified Hayward Black Hole

In this work, we analyze the effects of thermal fluctuations on the thermodynamics of a modified Hayward black hole. These thermal fluctuations will produce correction terms for various thermodynamic quantities like entropy, pressure, inner energy and specific heats. We also investigate the effect of these correction terms on the first law of thermodynamics. Finally, we study the phase transition for the modified Hayward black hole. It is demonstrated that the modified Hayward black hole is stable even after the thermal fluctuations are taken into account, as long as the event horizon is larger than a certain critical value.

Fidelity Susceptibility as Holographic PV-Criticality

It is well known that entropy can be used to holographically establish a connection between geometry, thermodynamics and information theory. In this paper, we will use complexity to holographically establish a connection between geometry, thermodynamics and information theory. Thus, we will analyse the relation between holographic complexity, fidelity susceptibility, and thermodynamics in extended phase space. We will demonstrate that fidelity susceptibility (which is the informational complexity dual to a maximum volume in AdS) can be related to the thermodynamical volume (which is conjugate to the cosmological constant in the extended thermodynamic phase space). Thus, this letter establishes a relation between geometry, thermodynamics, and information theory, using complexity.

Holographic Complexity for Time-Dependent Backgrounds

In this paper, we will analyse the holographic complexity for time-dependent asymptotically $AdS$ geometries. We will first use a covariant zero mean curvature slicing of the time-dependent bulk geometries, and then use this co-dimension one spacelike slice of the bulk spacetime to define a co-dimension two minimal surface. The time-dependent holographic complexity will be defined using the volume enclosed by this minimal surface. This time-dependent holographic complexity will reduce to the usual holographic complexity for static geometries. We will analyse the time-dependence as a perturbation of the asymptotically $AdS$ geometries. Thus, we will obtain time-dependent asymptotically $AdS$ geometries, and we will calculate the holographic complexity for such a time-dependent geometries.

Holographic Cosmology from a System of M2-M5 Branes

In this paper, we analyze the holographic cosmology using a M2-M5 brane configuration. In this configuration, a M2-brane will be placed in between a M5-brane and an anti-M5-brane. The M2-brane will act as a channel for energy to flow from an anti-M5-brane to a M5-brane, and this will increase the degrees of freedom on the M5-brane causing inflation. The inflation will end when the M5-brane and anti-M5-brane get separated. However, at a later stage the distance between the M5-brane and the anti-M5-bran can reduce and this will cause the formation of tachyonic states. These tachyonic states will be again open a bridge between the M5-branes and the anti-M5-branes, which will cause further acceleration of the universe.

Imaginary Interactions with Minimum Length

We analyze the effect of having minimum length on a two dimensional anisotropic simple harmonic oscillator with PT symmetric imaginary interaction perturbatively. The characteristics of PT phase transition remain unaltered in this deformed formulation of quantum mechanics.

IR finite graviton propagators in de Sitter spacetime

Graviton propagator diverges in certain gauges in de Sitter spacetime. We address this problem in this work by generalizing the infinitesimal BRST transformations in de Sitter spacetime to finite field-dependent BRST (FFBRST) transformations. These FFBRST transformations are symmetry of the classical action, but do not leave path integral measure invariant for the graviton theory in de Sitter spacetime. Due to the non-trivial Jacobian of such finite transformation the path integral measure changes and hence FFBRST transformation is capable of relating theories in two different gauges. We explicitly construct FFBRST transformation which relates theory with diverging graviton two-point function to theory with infrared (IR) finite graviton. The FFBRST transformation thus establishes that divergence in graviton two-point function may be only a gauge artifact.

Supersymmetric Chern-Simons Theory in Presence of a Boundary in the Light-Like Direction

In this paper, we will analyze a three dimensional supersymmetric Chern-Simons theory on a manifold with a boundary. The boundary we will consider in this paper will be defined by $n\cdot x=0$, where $n$ is a light-like vector. It will be demonstrated that this boundary is preserved under the action of the $SIM(1)$ subgroup of the Lorentz group. Furthermore, the presence of this boundary will break half of the supersymmetry of the original theory. As the original Chern-Simons theory had $\mathcal{N} =1$ supersymmetry in absence of a boundary, it will only have $\mathcal{N}=1/2$ supersymmetry in presence of this boundary. We will also observe that the Chern-Simons theory can be made gauge invariant by introducing new degrees of freedom on the boundary. The gauge transformation of these new degrees of freedom will exactly cancel the boundary term obtained from the gauge transformation of the Chern-Simons theory.

Supersymmetry Breaking as a new source for the Generalized Uncertainty Principle

In this letter, we will demonstrate that the breaking of supersymmetry by a non-anticommutative deformation can be used to generate the generalized uncertainty principle. We will analyse the physical reasons for this observation, in the framework of string theory. We also discuss the relation between the generalized uncertainty principle and the Lee-Wick field theories.

The Most General Form of Deformation of the Heisenberg Algebra from the Generalized Uncertainty Principle

In this paper, we will propose the most general form of the deformation of Heisenberg algebra motivated by the generalized uncertainty principle. This deformation of the Heisenberg algebra will deform all quantum mechanical systems. The form of the generalized uncertainty principle used to motivate these results will be motivated by space fractional quantum mechanics and non-locality in quantum mechanical systems. We also analyse a specific limit of this generalized deformation for one dimensional system, and in that limit, a nonlocal deformation of the momentum operator generates a local deformation of all one dimensional quantum mechanical systems. We analyse the low energy effects of this deformation on a harmonic oscillator, Landau levels, Lamb shift, and potential barrier. We also demonstrate that this deformation leads to a discretization of space.

Thermodynamics of a Sufficient Small Singly Spinning Kerr-AdS Black Hole

In this paper, we will analyze the thermodynamics of a small singly spinning Kerr-AdS black hole. As the black hole will be sufficient small, its temperature will be large and so we can not neglect the effects of thermal fluctuations. We will demonstrate that these thermal fluctuations correct the entropy of singly spinning Kerr-AdS black hole by a logarithmic correction term. We will analyze the implications of the logarithmic correction on other thermodynamic properties of this black hole, and analyze the stability of such a black hole. We will observe that this form of correction becomes important when the size of the black hole is sufficient small. We will also analyze the effect of these thermal fluctuations on the critical phenomena for such a black hole.

Time Crystals from Minimum Time Uncertainty

Motivated by the Generalized Uncertainty Principle, covariance, and a minimum measurable time, we propose a deformation of the Heisenberg algebra and show that this leads to corrections to all quantum mechanical systems. We also demonstrate that such a deformation implies a discrete spectrum for time. In other words, time behaves like a crystal. As an application of our formalism, we analyze the effect of such a deformation on the rate of spontaneous emission in a hydrogen atom.

Violation of the Holographic Principle in the Loop Quantum Gravity

In this paper, we analyze the holographic principle using loop quantum gravity (LQG). This will be done by using polymeric quantization for analysing the Yurtsever's holographic bound on the entropy, which is obtained from local quantum field theories. As the polymeric quantization is the characteristic feature of loop quantum gravity, we will argue that this calculation will indicate the effect of loop quantum gravity on the holographic principle. Thus, we will be able to explicitly demonstrate the violation of the holographic principle in the loop quantum gravity.

Absence of Black Holes at LHC due to Gravity's Rainbow

In this paper, we investigate the effect of Planckian deformation of quantum gravity on the production of black holes at colliders using the framework of gravity's rainbow. We demonstrate that a black hole remnant exists for Schwarzschild black holes in higher dimensions using gravity's rainbow. The mass of this remnant is found to be greater than the energy scale at which experiments were performed at the LHC. We propose this as a possible explanation for the absence of black holes at the LHC. Furthermore, we demonstrate that it is possible for black holes in six (and higher) dimensions to be produced at energy scales that will be accessible in the near future.

AdS/CFT Correspondence Beyond its Supergravity Approximation

We will study the AdS/CFT correspondence in an intermediate region between the strong form of this correspondence (string theory on AdS being dual to a boundary CFT), and the weak form of this correspondence (supergravity on AdS being dual to a boundary CFT). We will go beyond the supergravity approximation in the AdS by using the fact that strings have an extended structure. We will also calculate the CFT dual to such string corrections in the bulk, and demonstrate that they are consistent with the strong form of the AdS/CFT correspondence. So, even though the conformal dimensions of both the relevant and the irrelevant operators will receive string corrections, the conformal dimension of marginal operators will not receive any such corrections.

Black Holes in Gauss-Bonnet Gravity's Rainbow

In this paper, we will generalize the Gauss-Bonnet gravity to an energy dependent Gauss-Bonnet theory of gravity, which we shall call as the Gauss-Bonnet gravity's rainbow. We will also couple this theory to a Maxwell's theory. We will analyze black hole solutions in this energy dependent Gauss-Bonnet gravity's rainbow. We will calculate the modifications to the thermodynamics of black holes in the Gauss-Bonnet's gravity's rainbow. We will demonstrate that even though the thermodynamics of the black holes get modified in the Gauss-Bonnet gravity's rainbow, the first law of thermodynamics still holds for this modified thermodynamics. We will also comment on the thermal stability of the black hole solutions in this theory.

Chern-Simons Theory in SIM(1) Superspace

In this paper, we will analyse a three dimensional supersymmetric Chern-Simons theory in SIM(1) superspace formalism. The breaking of the Lorentz symmetry down to the SIM(1) symmetry, breaks half the supersymmetry of the Lorentz invariant theory. So, the supersymmetry of the Lorentz invariant Chern-Simons theory with N=1 supersymmetry will break down to N=1/2 supersymmetry, when the Lorentz symmetry is broken down to the SIM(1) symmetry. First, we will write the Chern-Simons action using SIM(1) projections of N=1 superfields. However, as the SIM(1) transformations of these projections are very complicated, we will define SIM(1) superfields which transform simply under SIM(1) transformations. We will then express the Chern-Simons action using these SIM(1) superfields. Furthermore, we will analyse the gauge symmetry of this Chern-Simons theory. This is the first time that a Chern-Simons theory with N=1/2 supersymmetry will be constructed on a manifold without a boundary.

Constraints on the Generalized Uncertainty Principle from Black Hole Thermodynamics

In this paper, we calculate the modification to the thermodynamics of a Schwarzschild black hole in higher dimensions because of Generalized Uncertainty Principle (GUP). We use the fact that the leading order corrections to the entropy of a black hole has to be logarithmic in nature to restrict the form of GUP. We observe that in six dimensions, the usual GUP produces the correct form for the leading order corrections to the entropy of a black hole. However, in five and seven dimensions a linear GUP, which is obtained by a combination of DSR with the usual GUP, is needed to produce the correct form of the corrections to the entropy of a black hole. Finally, we demonstrate that in five dimensions, a new form of GUP containing quadratic and cubic powers of the momentum also produces the correct form for the leading order corrections to the entropy of a black hole.

In this paper, we will analyze the effects of thermal fluctuations on the stability of a black Saturn. The entropy of the black Saturn will get corrected due to these thermal fluctuations. We will demonstrate that the correction term generated by these thermal fluctuations is a logarithmic term. Then we will use this corrected value of the entropy to obtain bounds for various parameters of the black Saturn. We will also analyze the thermodynamical stability of the black Saturn in presence of thermal fluctuations, using this corrected value of the entropy.

Deformation of Second and Third Quantization

In this paper, we will deform the second and third quantized theories by deforming the canonical commutation relations in such a way that they become consistent with the generalized uncertainty principle. Thus, we will first deform the second quantized commutator and obtain a deformed version of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation. Then we will further deform the third quantized theory by deforming the third quantized canonical commutation relation. This way we will obtain a deformed version of the third quantized theory for the multiverse.

Deformation of the Dirac Equation

In this paper, we will first clarify the physical meaning of having a minimum measurable time. Then we will combine the deformation of the Dirac equation due to the existence of minimum measurable length and time scales with its deformation due to the doubly special relativity. We will also analyse this deformed Dirac equation in curved spacetime, and observe that this deformation of the Dirac equation also leads to a non-trivial modification of general relativity. Finally, we will analyse the stochastic quantization of this deformed Dirac equation on curved spacetime.

Four Dimensional Supersymmetric Theories in Presence of a Boundary

In this paper, we study $\mathcal{N} =1$ supersymmetric theories in four dimensions in presence of a boundary. We demonstrate that it is possible to preserve half the supersymmetry of the original theory by suitably modifying it in presence of a boundary. This is done by adding new boundary terms to the original action, such that the supersymmetric variation of the new terms exactly cancels the boundary terms generated by the supersymmetric transformation of the original bulk action. We also analyze the boundary projections of such supercharges used in such a theory. We study super-Yang-Mills theories in presence of a boundary using these results. Finally, we study the Born-Infeld action in presence of a boundary. We analyse the boundary effects for the Born-Infeld action coupled to a background dilaton and an axion field. We also analyse the boundary effects for an non-abelian Born-Infeld action. We explicitly construct the actions for these systems in presence of a boundary. This action preserves half of the original supersymmetry.

Generalized Faddeev-Popov Method for a Deformed Supersymmetric Yang-Mills Theory

In this paper, we will study the deformation of a three dimensional $\mathcal{N} = 2$ supersymmetry gauge theory. We will deform this theory by imposing non-anticommutativity. This will break the supersymmetry of the theory from $\mathcal{N} = 2$ supersymmetry to $\mathcal{N} = 1$ supersymmetry. We will address the problem that occurs in the Landau gauge due to the existence of multiple solutions to the gauge fixing condition. This will be done by generalizing the Faddeev-Popov method. This formalism is motivated from the Nicolai map in topological field theories. Finally, we will study the extended BRST symmetry that occurs in this theory.

Gravitational Collapse in Gravity's Rainbow

In this paper, we will analyze the gravitational collapse in the framework of gravity's rainbow. We will demonstrate that the position of the horizon for a particle inside the black hole depends on the energy of that particle. It will also be observe that the position of the horizon for a particle falling radially into the black hole also depends on its energy. Thus, it is possible for a particle coming from outside to interact with a particle inside the black, and take some information outside the black hole. This is because for both these particles the position of horizon is different. So, even though the particle from inside the black hole is in its own horizon, it is not in the horizon of the particle coming from outside. Thus, we will demonstrate that in gravity's rainbow information can get out of a black hole.

GUP-Corrected Thermodynamics for all Black Objects and the Existence of Remnants

Based on the universality of the entropy-area relation of a black hole, and the fact that the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP) adds a logarithmic correction term to the entropy in accordance with most approaches to quantum gravity, we argue that the GUP-corrected entropy-area relation is universal for all black objects. This correction to the entropy produces corrections to the thermodynamics. We explicitly calculate these corrections for three types of black holes: Reissner--Nordström, Kerr, and charged AdS black holes, in addition to spinning black rings. In all cases we find that they produce a remnant. Even though the GUP-corrected entropy-area relation produces the logarithmic term in the series expansion, we need to use the full form of the GUP-corrected entropy-area relation to get remnants for these black holes.

Higher Derivative Terms in Three Dimensional Supersymmetric Theories

In this work, we systematically analyze higher derivative terms in the supersymmetric effective actions for three dimensional scalar field theories using $\mathcal{N} =1$ superspace formalism. In these effective actions, we show that auxiliary fields do not propagate and their effective actions can be expressed in terms of the physical fields. So, the theory does not change its field content upon addition of higher derivative terms. We use derivative expansion to generate four, five and six dimensional terms for an interacting scalar field theory with $\mathcal{N} =1$ supersymmetry. We show that along with pure fermionic and bosonic terms, there are various five and six dimensional topological terms that mix bosonic and fermionic fields. Finally, we use these results to obtain higher derivative topological terms in the effective action for two M2-branes.

Incorporation of Generalized Uncertainty Principle into Lifshitz Field Theories

In this paper, we will incorporation the generalized uncertainty principle into field theories with Lifshitz scaling. We will first construct both bososnic and fermionic theories with Lifshitz scaling based on generalized uncertainty principle. After that we will incorporate the generalized uncertainty principle into an non-abelian gauge theory with Lifshitz scaling. We will observe that even though the action for this theory is non-local, it is invariant under local gauge transformations. We will also perform the stochastic quantization of this Lifshitz fermionic theory based generalized uncertainty principle.

Kählerian Effective Potentials for Chern-Simons-Matter Theories

In this paper, we will calculate the effective potential for a theory of multiple M2-branes. As the theory of multiple M2-branes can be described by a Chern-Simons-matter theory, this will be done by calculating the Kählerian effective potential for a Chern-Simons-matter theory. This calculation will be performed in $\mathcal{N} = 1$ superspace formalism. We will initially study an Abelian Chern-Simons-matter theory, and then generalize those results to the full non-Abelian Chern-Simons-matter theory. We will obtain explicit expressions for the superpropagators for this theory. These superpropagators will be used to calculate the one-loop effective potential.

Lorentz Symmetry Breaking in $\mathcal{N} =2$ Superspace

In this paper, we will study the deformation of a three dimensional theory with $\mathcal{N} =2$ supersymmetry. This theory will be deformed by the presence of a constant vector field. This deformation will break the Lorentz symmetry. So, we will analyse this theory using $\mathcal{N} =2$ aether superspace. The $\mathcal{N} =2$ aether superspace will be obtained from a deformation of the usual $\mathcal{N} =2$ superspace. This will be done by deforming the generators of the three dimensional $\mathcal{N} =2$ supersymmetry. After analysing this deformed superalgebra, we will derive an explicit expression for the superspace propagators in this deformed superspace. Finally, we will use these propagators for performing perturbative calculations.

Remnant for all Black Objects due to Gravity's Rainbow

We argue that a remnant is formed for all black objects in gravity's rainbow. This will be based on the observation that a remnant depends critically on the structure of the rainbow functions, and this dependence is a model independent phenomena. We thus propose general relations for the modified temperature and entropy of all black objects in gravity's rainbow. We explicitly check this to be the case for Kerr, Kerr-Newman-dS, charged-AdS, and higher dimensional Kerr-AdS black holes. We also try to argue that a remnant should form for black Saturn in gravity's rainbow. This work extends our previous results on remnants of Schwarzschild black holes [ arXiv:1402.5320] and black rings [arXiv:1409.5745].

Short Distance Physics of the Inflationary de Sitter Universe

In this work, we investigate inflationary cosmology using scalar field theory deformed by the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP) containing a linear momentum term. Apart from being consistent with the existence of a minimum measurable length scale, this GUP is also consistent with doubly special relativity and hence with the existence of maximum measurable momentum. We use this deformed scalar field theory to analyze the tensor and scalar mode equations in a de Sitter background, and to calculate modifications to the tensor-to-scalar ratio. Finally, we compare our results for the tensor-to-scalar ratio with the Planck data to constrain the minimum length parameter in the GUP.

Super-Yang-Mills Theory in SIM(1) Superspace

In this paper, we will analyse three dimensional supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory coupled to matter fields in $SIM(1)$ superspace formalism. The original theory which is invariant under the full Lorentz group has $\mathcal{N} =1$ supersymmetry. However, when we break the Lorentz symmetry down to $SIM(1)$ group, the $SIM(1)$ superspace will break half the supersymmetry of the original theory. Thus, the resultant theory in $SIM(1)$ superspace will have $\mathcal{N} =1/2$ supersymmetry. This is the first time that $\mathcal{N} =1 $ supersymmetry will be broken down to $\mathcal{N} =1/2$ supersymmetry, for a three dimensional theory, on a manifold without a boundary. This is because it is not possible to use non-anticommutativity to break $\mathcal{N} =1$ supersymmetry down to $\mathcal{N} =1/2$ supersymmetry in three dimensions.

Supersymmetric Duality in Deformed Superloop Space

In this paper, we will analyse the superloop space formalism for a four dimensional supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory in deformed superspace. We will deform the $\mathcal{N} =1$ superspace by imposing non-anticommutativity. This non-anticommutative deformation of the superspace will break half the supersymmetry of the original theory. So, this theory will have $\mathcal{N} =1/2$ supersymmetry. We will analyse the superloop space duality for this deformed supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory using the $\mathcal{N} =1/2$ superspace formalism. We will demonstrate that the sources in the original theory will become monopoles in the dual theory, and the monopoles in the original theory will become sources in the dual theory.

Supersymmetric Duality in Superloop Space

In this paper we constructed superloop space duality for a four dimensional supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory with $\mathcal{N} =1$ supersymmetry. This duality reduces to the ordinary loop space duality for the ordinary Yang-Mills theory. It also reduces to the Hodge duality for an abelian gauge theory. Furthermore, the electric charges, which are the sources in the original theory, appear as monopoles in the dual theory. Whereas, the magnetic charges, which appear as monopoles in the original theory, become sources in the dual theory.

The Path Integral Quantization corresponding to the Deformed Heisenberg Algebra

In this paper, the deformation of the Heisenberg algebra, consistent with both the generalized uncertainty principle and doubly special relativity, has been analyzed. It has been observed that, though this algebra can give rise to fractional derivative terms in the corresponding quantum mechanical Hamiltonian, a formal meaning can be given to them by using the theory of harmonic extensions of function. Depending on this argument, the expression of the propagator of the path integral corresponding to the deformed Heisenberg algebra, has been obtained. In particular, the consistent expression of the one dimensional free particle propagator has been evaluated explicitly. With this propagator in hand, it has been shown that, even in free particle case, normal generalized uncertainty principle and doubly special relativity shows very much different result.

Absence of an Effective Horizon for Black Holes in Gravity's Rainbow

In fact, a similar divergence in time will also occur for an in-going observer in Gravity's Rainbow, if we again specify the position of the Horizon beyond the Planck scale. On the other hand, if we accept the occurrence of a minimum measurable length scale associated with a universal invariant maximum energy scale in Gravity's Rainbow, then the time taken by both the in-going and asymptotic observers will be finite.

However, this modified theory will only preserve half the supersymmetry of the original theory. Consequences of Deformation of the Heisenberg Algebra

In this paper we will demonstrate that like the existence of a minimum measurable length, the existence of a maximum measurable momentum, also influence all quantum mechanical systems. Beyond the simple one dimensional case, the existence of a maximum momentum will induce non-local corrections to the first quantized Hamiltonian. However, these non-local corrections can be effectively treated as local corrections by using the theory of harmonic extensions of functions. We will also analyses the second quantization of this deformed first quantized theory. Finally, we will analyses the gauge symmetry corresponding to this deformed theory.

Deformation of the Wheeler-DeWitt Equation

In this paper, we will analyse the consequences of deforming the canonical commutation relations consistent with the existence of a minimum length and a maximum momentum. We first generalize the deformation of first quantized canonical commutation relation to second quantized canonical commutation relation. Thus, we arrive at a modified version of second quantization. A modified Wheeler-DeWitt equation will be constructed by using this deformed second quantized canonical commutation relation. Finally, we demonstrate that in this modified theory the big bang singularity gets naturally avoided.

Monopoles in Superloop Space

In this paper, we will analyse a four dimensional gauge theory with $\mathcal{N} =1$ supersymmetry in superloop space formalism. We will thus obtain an expression for the connection in the infinite-dimensional superloop space. We will then use this connection to obtain an expression for the curvature of the infinite-dimensional superloop space. We will also show that this curvature is proportional to the Bianchi identity in spacetime. Thus, in absence of a monopole this curvature will vanish. Remnants of Black Rings from Gravity's Rainbow

In this paper, we investigate a spinning black ring and a charged black ring in the context of gravity's rainbow. By incorporating rainbow functions proposed by Amelino-Camelia, et al. in [arXiv:hep-th/9605211, arXiv:0806.0339v2] in the metric of the black rings, a considerable modification happens to their thermodynamical properties. We calculate corrections to the temperature, entropy and heat capacity of the black rings. These calculations demonstrate that the behavior of Hawking radiation changes considerably near the Planck scale in gravity's rainbow, where it is shown that black rings do not evaporate completely and a remnant is left as the black rings evaporate down to Planck scale.

Spontaneous Breaking of the BRST Symmetry in the ABJM theory

In this paper, we will analyse the ghost condensation in the ABJM theory. We will perform our analysis in ${\cal N}=1$ superspace. We show that in the Delbourgo-Jarvis-Baulieu-Thierry-Mieg gauge the spontaneous breaking of BRST symmetry can occur in the ABJM theory. This spontaneous breaking of BRST symmetry is caused by ghost-anti-ghost condensation. We will also show that in the ABJM theory, the ghost-anti-ghost the condensates remains present in the modified abelian gauge. Thus, the spontaneous breaking of BRST symmetry in ABJM theory can even occur in the modified abelian gauge.

We will note that this Wheeler-DeWitt equation, in this minisuperspace approximation, can be expressed as an eigenvalue equation. We will use this fact to analyse the spacetime foam in this formalism. Absence of Black Holes Information Paradox in Group Field Cosmology

In this paper we will analyse the black hole information paradox in group field cosmology. We will first construct a group field cosmology with third quantized gauge symmetry. Then we will argue that that in this group field cosmology the process that change the topology of spacetime are unitarity process. Thus, the information paradox from this perspective appears only because we are using a second quantized formalism to explain a third quantized process. A similar paradox would also occur if we analyse a second quantized process in first quantized formalism. Hence, we will demonstrated that in reality there is no information paradox but only a breakdown of the second quantized formalism.

We modify the original Lagrangian in such a way that it preserves half the supersymmetry even in the presence of a boundary. We also analyse the partial breaking of supersymmetry caused by non-anticommutativity between fermionic coordinates. Unlike in four dimensions, in three dimensions a theory with $\mathcal{N} =1/2$ supersymmetry cannot be obtained by a non-anticommutative deformation of an $\mathcal{N} =1$ theory. Gauge and Supersymmetric Invariance of a Boundary Bagger-Lambert-Gustavsson Theory

In this paper we will discuss the effect of a having a boundary on the supersymmetric invariance and gauge invariance of the Bagger-Lambert-Gustavsson (BLG) Theory. We will show that even though the supersymmetry and gauge invariance of the original BLG theory is broken due to the presence of a boundary, it restored by the addition of suitable boundary terms. In fact, to achieve the gauge invariance of this theory, we will have to introduce new boundary degrees of freedom. The boundary theory obeyed by these new boundary degrees of freedom will be shown to be a generalization of the gauged Wess-Zumino-Witten model, with the generators of the Lie algebra replaced by the generators of the Lie 3-algebra. The gauge and supersymmetry variations of the boundary theory will exactly cancel the boundary terms generated by the gauge and supersymmetric variations of the bulk theory.

Physical equivalence between the covariant and physical graviton two-point functions in de Sitter spacetime

It is known that the covariant graviton two-point function in de Sitter spacetime is infrared divergent for some choices of gauge parameters. On the other hand it is also known that there are no infrared divergences requiring an infrared cutoff for the physical graviton two-point function for this spacetime in the transverse-traceless-synchronous gauge in the global coordinate system. We show in this paper that the covariant graviton Wightman two-point function with two gauge parameters is equivalent to the physical one in the global coordinate system in the sense that they produce the same two-point function of any local gauge-invariant tensor linear in the graviton field such as the linearized Weyl tensor. This confirms the fact, pointed out decades ago, that the infrared divergences of the graviton two-point function in the covariant gauge for some choices of gauge parameters are gauge artifact in the sense that they do not contribute to the Wightman two-point function of any local gauge invariant tensor field in linearized theory.

Super-Group Field Cosmology

In this paper we construct a model for group field cosmology. The classical equations of motion for the non-interactive part of this model generate the Hamiltonian constraint of loop quantum gravity for a homogeneous isotropic universe filled with a scalar matter field. The interactions represent topology changing processes that occurs due to joining and splitting of universes. These universes in the multiverse are assumed to obey both bosonic and fermionic statistics, and so a supersymmetric multiverse is constructed using superspace formalism. We also introduce gauge symmetry in this model. The supersymmetry and gauge symmetry are introduced at the level of third quantized fields, and not the second quantized ones. This is the first time that supersymmetry has been discussed at the level of third quantized fields.

Supersymmetric Chern-Simons Theory in Presence of a Boundary

In this paper we analyse super-Chern-Simons theory in $\mathcal{N} =1$ superspace formalism, in the presence of a boundary. We modify the Lagrangian for the Chern-Simons theory in such a way that it is supersymmetric even in the presence of a boundary. Also, even though the Chern-Simons theory is not gauge invariant in the presence of a boundary, if it is suitable coupled to a gauged Wess-Zumino-Witten model, then the resultant theory can be made gauge invariant. Thus, by suitably adding extra boundary degrees of freedom, the gauge and supersymmetry variations of the boundary theory exactly cancel the boundary terms generated by the variations of the bulk Chern-Simons theory. We also discuss how this can be applied to the ABJM model in $\mathcal{N} =1$ superspace, and we then describe the BRST and anti-BRST symmetries of the resultant gauge invariant supersymmetric theory.

Multiverse in the Third Quantized Horava-Lifshits Theory of Gravity

In this paper we analyze the third quantization of Horava-Lifshits theory of gravity without detail balance. We show that the Wheeler-DeWitt equation for Horava-Lifshits theory of gravity in minisuperspace approximation becomes the equation for time-dependent harmonic oscillator. After interpreting the scaling factor as the time, we are able to derive the third quantized wavefunction for multiverse. We also show in third quantized formalism it is possible that the universe can form from nothing. After we go on to analyze the effect of introducing interactions in the Wheeler-DeWitt equation. We see how this model of interacting universes can be used to explain baryogenesis with violation of baryon number conservation in the multiverse. We also analyze how this model can possibly explain the present value of the cosmological constant. Finally we analyze the possibility of the multiverse being formed from perturbations around a false vacuum and its decay to a true vacuum.

Perturbative Quantum Gravity and Yang-Mills Theories in de Sitter Spacetime

This thesis consists of three parts. In the first part we review the quantization of Yang-Mills theories and perturbative quantum gravity in curved spacetime. In the second part we calculate the Feynman propagators of the Faddeev-Popov ghosts for Yang-Mills theories and perturbative quantum gravity in the covariant gauge. In the third part we investigate the physical equivalence of covariant Wightman graviton two-point function with the physical graviton two-point function. The Feynman propagators of the Faddeev-Popov ghosts for Yang-Mills theories and perturbative quantum gravity in the covariant gauge are infrared (IR) divergent in de Sitter spacetime. We point out, that if we regularize these divergences by introducing a finite mass and take the zero mass limit at the end, then the modes responsible for these divergences will not contribute to loop diagrams in computations of time-ordered products in either Yang-Mills theories or perturbative quantum gravity. We thus find effective Feynman propagators for ghosts in Yang-Mills theories and perturbative quantum gravity by subtracting out these divergent modes. It is known that the covariant graviton two-point function in de Sitter spacetime is infrared divergent for some choices of gauge parameters. On the other hand it is also known that there are no infrared problems for the physical graviton two-point function obtained by fixing all gauge degrees of freedom, in global coordinates. We show that the covariant Wightman graviton two-point function is equivalent to the physical one in the sense that they result in the same two-point function of any local gauge-invariant quantity. Thus any infrared divergence in the Wightman graviton two-point function in de Sitter spacetime can only be an gauge artefact.

Perturbative Quantum Gravity on Complex Spacetime

In this paper we will study non-anticommutative perturbative quantum gravity on spacetime with a complex metric. After analysing the BRST symmetry of this non-anticommutative perturbative quantum gravity, we will also analyse the effect of shifting all the fields. We will construct a Lagrangian density which is invariant under the original BRST transformations and the shift transformations in the Batalin-Vilkovisky (BV) formalism. Finally, we will show that the sum of the gauge-fixing term and the ghost term for this shift symmetry invariant Lagrangian density can be elegantly written down in superspace with a single Grassmann parameter.

Some Aspects of Virtual Black Holes

In this paper we shall consistently third quantize modified gravity. Then we shall analyse certain aspects of virtual black holes in this third quantized modified gravity. We will see how a statistical mechanical origin for the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy naturally arises in this model. Furthermore, in this model the area and thus the entropy of a real macroscopic black hole is quantized. Virtual black holes cause loss of quantum coherence and this gives an intrinsic entropy to all physical systems which can be used to define a direction of time and hence provide a solution to the problem of time.

Spontaneous Breaking of Lorentz Symmetry by Ghost Condensation in Perturbative Quantum Gravity

In this paper we will study the spontaneous breakdown of the Lorentz symmetry by ghost condensation in perturbative quantum gravity. Our analysis will be done in the Curci-Ferrari gauge. We will also analyse modification of the BRST and the anti-BRST transformations by the formation of this ghost condensate. It will be shown that even though the modified BRST and the modified anti-BRST transformations are not nilpotent, their nilpotency is restored on-shell.

BRST and Anti-BRST Symmetries in Perturbative Quantum Gravity

In perturbative quantum gravity, the sum of the classical Lagrangian density, a gauge fixing term and a ghost term is invariant under two sets of supersymmetric transformations called the BRST and the anti-BRST transformations. In this paper we will analyse the BRST and the anti-BRST symmetries of perturbative quantum gravity in curved spacetime, in linear as well as non-linear gauges. We will show that even though the sum of ghost term and the gauge fixing term can always be expressed as a total BRST or a total anti-BRST variation, we can express it as a combination of both of them only in certain special gauges. We will also analyse the violation of nilpotency of the BRST and the anti-BRST transformations by introduction of a bare mass term, in the massive Curci-Ferrari gauge.
