InpaintHuman: Reconstructing Occluded Humans with Multi-Scale UV Mapping and Identity-Preserving Diffusion Inpainting

Reconstructing complete and animatable 3D human avatars from monocular videos remains challenging, particularly under severe occlusions. While 3D Gaussian Splatting has enabled photorealistic human rendering, existing methods struggle with incomplete observations, often producing corrupted geometry and temporal inconsistencies. We present InpaintHuman, a novel method for generating high-fidelity, complete, and animatable avatars from occluded monocular videos. Our approach introduces two key innovations: (i) a multi-scale UV-parameterized representation with hierarchical coarse-to-fine feature interpolation, enabling robust reconstruction of occluded regions while preserving geometric details; and (ii) an identity-preserving diffusion inpainting module that integrates textual inversion with semantic-conditioned guidance for subject-specific, temporally coherent completion. Unlike SDS-based methods, our approach employs direct pixel-level supervision to ensure identity fidelity. Experiments on synthetic benchmarks (PeopleSnapshot, ZJU-MoCap) and real-world scenarios (OcMotion) demonstrate competitive performance with consistent improvements in reconstruction quality across diverse poses and viewpoints.

On the Identification of Temporally Causal Representation with Instantaneous Dependence

Temporally causal representation learning aims to identify the latent causal process from time series observations, but most methods require the assumption that the latent causal processes do not have instantaneous relations. Although some recent methods achieve identifiability in the instantaneous causality case, they require either interventions on the latent variables or grouping of the observations, which are in general difficult to obtain in real-world scenarios. To fill this gap, we propose an \textbf{ID}entification framework for instantane\textbf{O}us \textbf{L}atent dynamics (\textbf{IDOL}) by imposing a sparse influence constraint that the latent causal processes have sparse time-delayed and instantaneous relations. Specifically, we establish identifiability results of the latent causal process based on sufficient variability and the sparse influence constraint by employing contextual information of time series data. Based on these theories, we incorporate a temporally variational inference architecture to estimate the latent variables and a gradient-based sparsity regularization to identify the latent causal process. Experimental results on simulation datasets illustrate that our method can identify the latent causal process. Furthermore, evaluations on multiple human motion forecasting benchmarks with instantaneous dependencies indicate the effectiveness of our method in real-world settings.

TransVLM: A Vision-Language Framework and Benchmark for Detecting Any Shot Transitions

Traditional Shot Boundary Detection (SBD) inherently struggles with complex transitions by formulating the task around isolated cut points, frequently yielding corrupted video shots. We address this fundamental limitation by formalizing the Shot Transition Detection (STD) task. Rather than searching for ambiguous points, STD explicitly detects the continuous temporal segments of transitions. To tackle this, we propose TransVLM, a Vision-Language Model (VLM) framework for STD. Unlike regular VLMs that predominantly rely on spatial semantics and struggle with fine-grained inter-shot dynamics, our method explicitly injects optical flow as a critical motion prior at the input stage. Through a simple yet effective feature-fusion strategy, TransVLM directly processes concatenated color and motion representations, significantly enhancing its temporal awareness without incurring any additional visual token overhead on the language backbone. To overcome the severe class imbalance in public data, we design a scalable data engine to synthesize diverse transition videos for robust training, alongside a comprehensive benchmark for STD. Extensive experiments demonstrate that TransVLM achieves superior overall performance, outperforming traditional heuristic methods, specialized spatiotemporal networks, and top-tier VLMs. This work has been deployed to production. Freetalker: Controllable Speech and Text-Driven Gesture Generation Based on Diffusion Models for Enhanced Speaker Naturalness

Current talking avatars mostly generate co-speech gestures based on audio and text of the utterance, without considering the non-speaking motion of the speaker. Furthermore, previous works on co-speech gesture generation have designed network structures based on individual gesture datasets, which results in limited data volume, compromised generalizability, and restricted speaker movements. To tackle these issues, we introduce FreeTalker, which, to the best of our knowledge, is the first framework for the generation of both spontaneous (e.g., co-speech gesture) and non-spontaneous (e.g., moving around the podium) speaker motions. Specifically, we train a diffusion-based model for speaker motion generation that employs unified representations of both speech-driven gestures and text-driven motions, utilizing heterogeneous data sourced from various motion datasets. During inference, we utilize classifier-free guidance to highly control the style in the clips. Additionally, to create smooth transitions between clips, we utilize DoubleTake, a method that leverages a generative prior and ensures seamless motion blending. Counterfactual Fairness with Partially Known Causal Graph

Fair machine learning aims to avoid treating individuals or sub-populations unfavourably based on \textit{sensitive attributes}, such as gender and race. Those methods in fair machine learning that are built on causal inference ascertain discrimination and bias through causal effects. Though causality-based fair learning is attracting increasing attention, current methods assume the true causal graph is fully known. This paper proposes a general method to achieve the notion of counterfactual fairness when the true causal graph is unknown. To be able to select features that lead to counterfactual fairness, we derive the conditions and algorithms to identify ancestral relations between variables on a \textit{Partially Directed Acyclic Graph (PDAG)}, specifically, a class of causal DAGs that can be learned from observational data combined with domain knowledge. Interestingly, we find that counterfactual fairness can be achieved as if the true causal graph were fully known, when specific background knowledge is provided: the sensitive attributes do not have ancestors in the causal graph. Results on both simulated and real-world datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our method.

FedDAG: Federated DAG Structure Learning

To date, most directed acyclic graphs (DAGs) structure learning approaches require data to be stored in a central server. However, due to the consideration of privacy protection, data owners gradually refuse to share their personalized raw data to avoid private information leakage, making this task more troublesome by cutting off the first step. Thus, a puzzle arises: \textit{how do we discover the underlying DAG structure from decentralized data?} In this paper, focusing on the additive noise models (ANMs) assumption of data generation, we take the first step in developing a gradient-based learning framework named FedDAG, which can learn the DAG structure without directly touching the local data and also can naturally handle the data heterogeneity. Our method benefits from a two-level structure of each local model. The first level structure learns the edges and directions of the graph and communicates with the server to get the model information from other clients during the learning procedure, while the second level structure approximates the mechanisms among variables and personally updates on its own data to accommodate the data heterogeneity. Moreover, FedDAG formulates the overall learning task as a continuous optimization problem by taking advantage of an equality acyclicity constraint, which can be solved by gradient descent methods to boost the searching efficiency. Extensive experiments on both synthetic and real-world datasets verify the efficacy of the proposed method.

MissDAG: Causal Discovery in the Presence of Missing Data with Continuous Additive Noise Models

State-of-the-art causal discovery methods usually assume that the observational data is complete. However, the missing data problem is pervasive in many practical scenarios such as clinical trials, economics, and biology. One straightforward way to address the missing data problem is first to impute the data using off-the-shelf imputation methods and then apply existing causal discovery methods. However, such a two-step method may suffer from suboptimality, as the imputation algorithm may introduce bias for modeling the underlying data distribution. In this paper, we develop a general method, which we call MissDAG, to perform causal discovery from data with incomplete observations. Focusing mainly on the assumptions of ignorable missingness and the identifiable additive noise models (ANMs), MissDAG maximizes the expected likelihood of the visible part of observations under the expectation-maximization (EM) framework. In the E-step, in cases where computing the posterior distributions of parameters in closed-form is not feasible, Monte Carlo EM is leveraged to approximate the likelihood. In the M-step, MissDAG leverages the density transformation to model the noise distributions with simpler and specific formulations by virtue of the ANMs and uses a likelihood-based causal discovery algorithm with directed acyclic graph constraint. We demonstrate the flexibility of MissDAG for incorporating various causal discovery algorithms and its efficacy through extensive simulations and real data experiments.

A Relational Intervention Approach for Unsupervised Dynamics Generalization in Model-Based Reinforcement Learning

The generalization of model-based reinforcement learning (MBRL) methods to environments with unseen transition dynamics is an important yet challenging problem. Existing methods try to extract environment-specified information $Z$ from past transition segments to make the dynamics prediction model generalizable to different dynamics. However, because environments are not labelled, the extracted information inevitably contains redundant information unrelated to the dynamics in transition segments and thus fails to maintain a crucial property of $Z$: $Z$ should be similar in the same environment and dissimilar in different ones. As a result, the learned dynamics prediction function will deviate from the true one, which undermines the generalization ability. To tackle this problem, we introduce an interventional prediction module to estimate the probability of two estimated $\hat{z}_i, \hat{z}_j$ belonging to the same environment. Furthermore, by utilizing the $Z$'s invariance within a single environment, a relational head is proposed to enforce the similarity between $\hat{Z}$ from the same environment. As a result, the redundant information will be reduced in $\hat{Z}$. We empirically show that $\hat{Z}$ estimated by our method enjoy less redundant information than previous methods, and such $\hat{Z}$ can significantly reduce dynamics prediction errors and improve the performance of model-based RL methods on zero-shot new environments with unseen dynamics. Adversarial Consistency for Single Domain Generalization in Medical Image Segmentation

An organ segmentation method that can generalize to unseen contrasts and scanner settings can significantly reduce the need for retraining of deep learning models. Domain Generalization (DG) aims to achieve this goal. However, most DG methods for segmentation require training data from multiple domains during training. We propose a novel adversarial domain generalization method for organ segmentation trained on data from a \emph{single} domain. We synthesize the new domains via learning an adversarial domain synthesizer (ADS) and presume that the synthetic domains cover a large enough area of plausible distributions so that unseen domains can be interpolated from synthetic domains. We propose a mutual information regularizer to enforce the semantic consistency between images from the synthetic domains, which can be estimated by patch-level contrastive learning. We evaluate our method for various organ segmentation for unseen modalities, scanning protocols, and scanner sites.

CausalAdv: Adversarial Robustness through the Lens of Causality

The adversarial vulnerability of deep neural networks has attracted significant attention in machine learning. As causal reasoning has an instinct for modelling distribution change, it is essential to incorporate causality into analyzing this specific type of distribution change induced by adversarial attacks. However, causal formulations of the intuition of adversarial attacks and the development of robust DNNs are still lacking in the literature. To bridge this gap, we construct a causal graph to model the generation process of adversarial examples and define the adversarial distribution to formalize the intuition of adversarial attacks. From the causal perspective, we study the distinction between the natural and adversarial distribution and conclude that the origin of adversarial vulnerability is the focus of models on spurious correlations. Inspired by the causal understanding, we propose the Causal inspired Adversarial distribution alignment method, CausalAdv, to eliminate the difference between natural and adversarial distributions by considering spurious correlations. Extensive experiments demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method. Our work is the first attempt towards using causality to understand and mitigate the adversarial vulnerability.

CRIS: CLIP-Driven Referring Image Segmentation

Referring image segmentation aims to segment a referent via a natural linguistic expression.Due to the distinct data properties between text and image, it is challenging for a network to well align text and pixel-level features. Existing approaches use pretrained models to facilitate learning, yet separately transfer the language/vision knowledge from pretrained models, ignoring the multi-modal corresponding information. Inspired by the recent advance in Contrastive Language-Image Pretraining (CLIP), in this paper, we propose an end-to-end CLIP-Driven Referring Image Segmentation framework (CRIS). To transfer the multi-modal knowledge effectively, CRIS resorts to vision-language decoding and contrastive learning for achieving the text-to-pixel alignment. More specifically, we design a vision-language decoder to propagate fine-grained semantic information from textual representations to each pixel-level activation, which promotes consistency between the two modalities. In addition, we present text-to-pixel contrastive learning to explicitly enforce the text feature similar to the related pixel-level features and dissimilar to the irrelevances. The experimental results on three benchmark datasets demonstrate that our proposed framework significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art performance without any post-processing. Do We Need to Penalize Variance of Losses for Learning with Label Noise?

Algorithms which minimize the averaged loss have been widely designed for dealing with noisy labels. Intuitively, when there is a finite training sample, penalizing the variance of losses will improve the stability and generalization of the algorithms. Interestingly, we found that the variance should be increased for the problem of learning with noisy labels. Specifically, increasing the variance will boost the memorization effects and reduce the harmfulness of incorrect labels. By exploiting the label noise transition matrix, regularizers can be easily designed to reduce the variance of losses and be plugged in many existing algorithms. Empirically, the proposed method by increasing the variance of losses significantly improves the generalization ability of baselines on both synthetic and real-world datasets.

Exploring Set Similarity for Dense Self-supervised Representation Learning

By considering the spatial correspondence, dense self-supervised representation learning has achieved superior performance on various dense prediction tasks. However, the pixel-level correspondence tends to be noisy because of many similar misleading pixels, e.g., backgrounds. To address this issue, in this paper, we propose to explore \textbf{set} \textbf{sim}ilarity (SetSim) for dense self-supervised representation learning. We generalize pixel-wise similarity learning to set-wise one to improve the robustness because sets contain more semantic and structure information. Specifically, by resorting to attentional features of views, we establish corresponding sets, thus filtering out noisy backgrounds that may cause incorrect correspondences. Meanwhile, these attentional features can keep the coherence of the same image across different views to alleviate semantic inconsistency. We further search the cross-view nearest neighbours of sets and employ the structured neighbourhood information to enhance the robustness. Empirical evaluations demonstrate that SetSim is superior to state-of-the-art methods on object detection, keypoint detection, instance segmentation, and semantic segmentation.

Few-Shot Font Generation by Learning Fine-Grained Local Styles

Few-shot font generation (FFG), which aims to generate a new font with a few examples, is gaining increasing attention due to the significant reduction in labor cost. A typical FFG pipeline considers characters in a standard font library as content glyphs and transfers them to a new target font by extracting style information from the reference glyphs. Most existing solutions explicitly disentangle content and style of reference glyphs globally or component-wisely. However, the style of glyphs mainly lies in the local details, i.e. the styles of radicals, components, and strokes together depict the style of a glyph. Therefore, even a single character can contain different styles distributed over spatial locations. In this paper, we propose a new font generation approach by learning 1) the fine-grained local styles from references, and 2) the spatial correspondence between the content and reference glyphs. Therefore, each spatial location in the content glyph can be assigned with the right fine-grained style. To this end, we adopt cross-attention over the representation of the content glyphs as the queries and the representations of the reference glyphs as the keys and values. Instead of explicitly disentangling global or component-wise modeling, the cross-attention mechanism can attend to the right local styles in the reference glyphs and aggregate the reference styles into a fine-grained style representation for the given content glyphs. The experiments show that the proposed method outperforms the state-of-the-art methods in FFG. In particular, the user studies also demonstrate the style consistency of our approach significantly outperforms previous methods.

Hierarchical Amortized Training for Memory-efficient High Resolution 3D GAN

Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) have many potential medical imaging applications, including data augmentation, domain adaptation, and model explanation. Due to the limited memory of Graphical Processing Units (GPUs), most current 3D GAN models are trained on low-resolution medical images, these models either cannot scale to high-resolution or are prone to patchy artifacts. In this work, we propose a novel end-to-end GAN architecture that can generate high-resolution 3D images. We achieve this goal by using different configurations between training and inference. During training, we adopt a hierarchical structure that simultaneously generates a low-resolution version of the image and a randomly selected sub-volume of the high-resolution image. The hierarchical design has two advantages: First, the memory demand for training on high-resolution images is amortized among sub-volumes. Furthermore, anchoring the high-resolution sub-volumes to a single low-resolution image ensures anatomical consistency between sub-volumes. During inference, our model can directly generate full high-resolution images. We also incorporate an encoder with a similar hierarchical structure into the model to extract features from the images. Experiments on 3D thorax CT and brain MRI demonstrate that our approach outperforms state of the art in image generation. We also demonstrate clinical applications of the proposed model in data augmentation and clinical-relevant feature extraction.

Instance-dependent Label-noise Learning under a Structural Causal Model

Label noise will degenerate the performance of deep learning algorithms because deep neural networks easily overfit label errors. Let X and Y denote the instance and clean label, respectively. When Y is a cause of X, according to which many datasets have been constructed, e.g., SVHN and CIFAR, the distributions of P(X) and P(Y|X) are entangled. This means that the unsupervised instances are helpful to learn the classifier and thus reduce the side effect of label noise. However, it remains elusive on how to exploit the causal information to handle the label noise problem. In this paper, by leveraging a structural causal model, we propose a novel generative approach for instance-dependent label-noise learning. In particular, we show that properly modeling the instances will contribute to the identifiability of the label noise transition matrix and thus lead to a better classifier. Empirically, our method outperforms all state-of-the-art methods on both synthetic and real-world label-noise datasets.

Maximum Spatial Perturbation Consistency for Unpaired Image-to-Image Translation

Unpaired image-to-image translation (I2I) is an ill-posed problem, as an infinite number of translation functions can map the source domain distribution to the target distribution. Therefore, much effort has been put into designing suitable constraints, e.g., cycle consistency (CycleGAN), geometry consistency (GCGAN), and contrastive learning-based constraints (CUTGAN), that help better pose the problem. However, these well-known constraints have limitations: (1) they are either too restrictive or too weak for specific I2I tasks; (2) these methods result in content distortion when there is a significant spatial variation between the source and target domains. This paper proposes a universal regularization technique called maximum spatial perturbation consistency (MSPC), which enforces a spatial perturbation function (T ) and the translation operator (G) to be commutative (i.e., TG = GT ). In addition, we introduce two adversarial training components for learning the spatial perturbation function. The first one lets T compete with G to achieve maximum perturbation. The second one lets G and T compete with discriminators to align the spatial variations caused by the change of object size, object distortion, background interruptions, etc. Our method outperforms the state-of-the-art methods on most I2I benchmarks. We also introduce a new benchmark, namely the front face to profile face dataset, to emphasize the underlying challenges of I2I for real-world applications. We finally perform ablation experiments to study the sensitivity of our method to the severity of spatial perturbation and its effectiveness for distribution alignment.

MetaComp: Learning to Adapt for Online Depth Completion

Relying on deep supervised or self-supervised learning, previous methods for depth completion from paired single image and sparse depth data have achieved impressive performance in recent years. However, facing a new environment where the test data occurs online and differs from the training data in the RGB image content and depth sparsity, the trained model might suffer severe performance drop. To encourage the trained model to work well in such conditions, we expect it to be capable of adapting to the new environment continuously and effectively. To achieve this, we propose MetaComp. It utilizes the meta-learning technique to simulate adaptation policies during the training phase, and then adapts the model to new environments in a self-supervised manner in testing. Considering that the input is multi-modal data, it would be challenging to adapt a model to variations in two modalities simultaneously, due to significant differences in structure and form of the two modal data. Therefore, we further propose to disentangle the adaptation procedure in the basic meta-learning training into two steps, the first one focusing on the depth sparsity while the second attending to the image content. During testing, we take the same strategy to adapt the model online to new multi-modal data. Experimental results and comprehensive ablations show that our MetaComp is capable of adapting to the depth completion in a new environment effectively and robust to changes in different modalities.

MP2: A Momentum Contrast Approach for Recommendation with Pointwise and Pairwise Learning

Binary pointwise labels (aka implicit feedback) are heavily leveraged by deep learning based recommendation algorithms nowadays. In this paper we discuss the limited expressiveness of these labels may fail to accommodate varying degrees of user preference, and thus lead to conflicts during model training, which we call annotation bias. To solve this issue, we find the soft-labeling property of pairwise labels could be utilized to alleviate the bias of pointwise labels. To this end, we propose a momentum contrast framework (MP2) that combines pointwise and pairwise learning for recommendation. MP2 has a three-tower network structure: one user network and two item networks. The two item networks are used for computing pointwise and pairwise loss respectively. To alleviate the influence of the annotation bias, we perform a momentum update to ensure a consistent item representation. Extensive experiments on real-world datasets demonstrate the superiority of our method against state-of-the-art recommendation algorithms.

Rethinking Class-Prior Estimation for Positive-Unlabeled Learning

Given only positive (P) and unlabeled (U) data, PU learning can train a binary classifier without any negative data. It has two building blocks: PU class-prior estimation (CPE) and PU classification; the latter has been well studied while the former has received less attention. Hitherto, the distributional-assumption-free CPE methods rely on a critical assumption that the support of the positive data distribution cannot be contained in the support of the negative data distribution. If this is violated, those CPE methods will systematically overestimate the class prior; it is even worse that we cannot verify the assumption based on the data. In this paper, we rethink CPE for PU learning-can we remove the assumption to make CPE always valid? We show an affirmative answer by proposing Regrouping CPE (ReCPE) that builds an auxiliary probability distribution such that the support of the positive data distribution is never contained in the support of the negative data distribution. ReCPE can work with any CPE method by treating it as the base method. Theoretically, ReCPE does not affect its base if the assumption already holds for the original probability distribution; otherwise, it reduces the positive bias of its base. Empirically, ReCPE improves all state-of-the-art CPE methods on various datasets, implying that the assumption has indeed been violated here.

Robust Weight Perturbation for Adversarial Training

Overfitting widely exists in adversarial robust training of deep networks. An effective remedy is adversarial weight perturbation, which injects the worst-case weight perturbation during network training by maximizing the classification loss on adversarial examples. Adversarial weight perturbation helps reduce the robust generalization gap; however, it also undermines the robustness improvement. A criterion that regulates the weight perturbation is therefore crucial for adversarial training. In this paper, we propose such a criterion, namely Loss Stationary Condition (LSC) for constrained perturbation. With LSC, we find that it is essential to conduct weight perturbation on adversarial data with small classification loss to eliminate robust overfitting. Weight perturbation on adversarial data with large classification loss is not necessary and may even lead to poor robustness. Based on these observations, we propose a robust perturbation strategy to constrain the extent of weight perturbation. The perturbation strategy prevents deep networks from overfitting while avoiding the side effect of excessive weight perturbation, significantly improving the robustness of adversarial training. Extensive experiments demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method over the state-of-the-art adversarial training methods.

Understanding Robust Overfitting of Adversarial Training and Beyond

Robust overfitting widely exists in adversarial training of deep networks. The exact underlying reasons for this are still not completely understood. Here, we explore the causes of robust overfitting by comparing the data distribution of \emph{non-overfit} (weak adversary) and \emph{overfitted} (strong adversary) adversarial training, and observe that the distribution of the adversarial data generated by weak adversary mainly contain small-loss data. However, the adversarial data generated by strong adversary is more diversely distributed on the large-loss data and the small-loss data. Given these observations, we further designed data ablation adversarial training and identify that some small-loss data which are not worthy of the adversary strength cause robust overfitting in the strong adversary mode. To relieve this issue, we propose \emph{minimum loss constrained adversarial training} (MLCAT): in a minibatch, we learn large-loss data as usual, and adopt additional measures to increase the loss of the small-loss data. Technically, MLCAT hinders data fitting when they become easy to learn to prevent robust overfitting; philosophically, MLCAT reflects the spirit of turning waste into treasure and making the best use of each adversarial data; algorithmically, we designed two realizations of MLCAT, and extensive experiments demonstrate that MLCAT can eliminate robust overfitting and further boost adversarial robustness.

3D-FUTURE: 3D Furniture shape with TextURE

The 3D CAD shapes in current 3D benchmarks are mostly collected from online model repositories. Thus, they typically have insufficient geometric details and less informative textures, making them less attractive for comprehensive and subtle research in areas such as high-quality 3D mesh and texture recovery. This paper presents 3D Furniture shape with TextURE (3D-FUTURE): a richly-annotated and large-scale repository of 3D furniture shapes in the household scenario. At the time of this technical report, 3D-FUTURE contains 20,240 clean and realistic synthetic images of 5,000 different rooms. There are 9,992 unique detailed 3D instances of furniture with high-resolution textures. Experienced designers developed the room scenes, and the 3D CAD shapes in the scene are used for industrial production. Given the well-organized 3D-FUTURE, we provide baseline experiments on several widely studied tasks, such as joint 2D instance segmentation and 3D object pose estimation, image-based 3D shape retrieval, 3D object reconstruction from a single image, and texture recovery for 3D shapes, to facilitate related future researches on our database.

Multi-Class Classification from Noisy-Similarity-Labeled Data

A similarity label indicates whether two instances belong to the same class while a class label shows the class of the instance. Without class labels, a multi-class classifier could be learned from similarity-labeled pairwise data by meta classification learning. However, since the similarity label is less informative than the class label, it is more likely to be noisy. Deep neural networks can easily remember noisy data, leading to overfitting in classification. In this paper, we propose a method for learning from only noisy-similarity-labeled data. Specifically, to model the noise, we employ a noise transition matrix to bridge the class-posterior probability between clean and noisy data. We further estimate the transition matrix from only noisy data and build a novel learning system to learn a classifier which can assign noise-free class labels for instances. Moreover, we theoretically justify how our proposed method generalizes for learning classifiers. Experimental results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method over the state-of-the-art method on benchmark-simulated and real-world noisy-label datasets.

Short-Term and Long-Term Context Aggregation Network for Video Inpainting

Video inpainting aims to restore missing regions of a video and has many applications such as video editing and object removal. However, existing methods either suffer from inaccurate short-term context aggregation or rarely explore long-term frame information. In this work, we present a novel context aggregation network to effectively exploit both short-term and long-term frame information for video inpainting. In the encoding stage, we propose boundary-aware short-term context aggregation, which aligns and aggregates, from neighbor frames, local regions that are closely related to the boundary context of missing regions into the target frame. Furthermore, we propose dynamic long-term context aggregation to globally refine the feature map generated in the encoding stage using long-term frame features, which are dynamically updated throughout the inpainting process. Experiments show that it outperforms state-of-the-art methods with better inpainting results and fast inpainting speed.
