A formula by $LDL^{T}$ decomposition for the minimal type-I seesaw mechanism and conditions of $CP$ symmetry in an arbitrary basis

In this paper, defining a formula by $LDL^{T}$ decomposition for the minimal type-I seesaw mechanism, we obtain conditions of $CP$ symmetry for the neutrino mass matrix $m$ in an arbitrary basis. The conditions are found to be ${\rm Re\,} (M_{22} a_{i} - M_{12} b_{i}) \, {\rm Im \,} ( M_{22} a_{j} - M_{12} b_{j}) = - \det M \, {\rm Re\,} b_{i} \, {\rm Im \,} b_{j}$ or $ = - \det M \, {\rm Im \,} b_{i} \, {\rm Re\,} b_{j}$ for the Yukawa matrix $Y_{ij} = (a_{j}, b_{j})$ and the right-handed neutrino mass matrix $M_{ij}$. In other words, the real or imaginary part of $b_{i}$ must be proportional to the real or imaginary part of the quantity $(M_{22} a_{i} - M_{12} b_{i})$.

A general formula by $LDL^{T}$ decomposition for the type-I seesaw mechanism

By performing an approximate spectral decomposition to the inverse mass matrix of the right-handed neutrinos $M^{-1}$, we obtain a basis-independent formula for the type-I seesaw mechanism. Mathematically, it is based on the generalized Cholesky (or $LDL^{T}$) decomposition of the symmetric matrix $M^{-1} = L D L^{T}$, with a diagonal matrix $D$ and a lower unitriangular matrix $L$. Since the diagonalization of $L$ can be inverted without solving cubic equations, the formula will be useful to investigate general properties of the mechanism, such as flavor symmetries, generalized $CP$ symmetries, and fine-tunings.

Conditions of general $Z_{2}$ symmetry and TM$_{1,2}$ mixing for the minimal type-I seesaw mechanism in an arbitrary basis

In this paper, using a formula for the minimal type-I seesaw mechanism by $LDL^{T}$ (or generalized Cholesky) decomposition, conditions of general $Z_{2}$-invariance for the neutrino mass matrix $m$ is obtained in an arbitrary basis. The conditions are found to be $(M_{22} a_{i}^{+} - M_{12} b_{i}^{+}) \, ( M_{22} a_{j}^{-} - M_{12} b_{j}^{-}) = - \det M \, b_{i}^{+} \, b_{j}^{-}$ for the $Z_{2}$-symmetric and -antisymmetric part of a Yukawa matrix $Y_{ij}^{\pm} \equiv (Y \pm T Y )_{ij} /2 \equiv (a_{j}^{\pm}, b_{j}^{\pm})$ and the right-handed neutrino mass matrix $M_{ij}$. In other words, the symmetric and antisymmetric part of $b_{i}$ must be proportional to those of the quantity $\tilde a_{i} \equiv a_{i} - {M_{12} \over M_{22}} b_{i}$. They are equivalent to the condition that $m$ is block diagonalized by eigenvectors of the generator $T$. These results are applied to three $Z_{2}$ symmetries, the $μ-τ$ symmetry, the TM$_{1}$ mixing, and the magic symmetry which predicts the TM$_{2}$ mixing. For the case of TM$_{1,2}$, the symmetry conditions become $ M_{22}^{2} \, \tilde {a}_{1}^{\rm TBM} \tilde a_{2}^{\rm TBM} = - \det M \, b_{1}^{\rm TBM} b_{2}^{\rm TBM}$ and $ M_{22}^{2} \, \tilde {a}_{1,2}^{\rm TBM} \tilde a_{3}^{\rm TBM} = - \det M \, b_{1,2}^{\rm TBM} b_{3}^{\rm TBM}$ with components $\tilde a_{i}^{\rm TBM}$ and $b_{i}^{\rm TBM}$ in the TBM basis $\mathbf{v}_{1,2,3}$. In particular, for the TM$_{2}$ mixing, the magic (anti-)symmetric Yukawa matrix with $S_{2} Y = \pm Y$ is phenomenologically excluded because it predicts $m_{2}=0$ or $m_{1}, m_{3} = 0$. In the case where Yukawa is not (anti-)symmetric, the mass singular values are displayed without a root sign.

Conditions of naturalness and fine-tunings for type-I seesaw mechanism with four-zero texture

In this paper, we search for conditions that the mass matrix of light neutrinos $m_ν$ is not a result of large cancellations for the type-I seesaw mechanism with four-zero texture. For the Yukawa matrix of neutrinos $Y_ν$ and heavy Majorana mass matrix $M_{R}$, these conditions are written as $(Y_ν)_{i2} \propto (m_ν)_{i2} \, \Rightarrow \, (Y_ν)_{i2} \propto (M_{R})_{i2}$. We call them {\it alignment} conditions because they align the certain rows or columns of the three neutrino mass matrices. If these conditions do not hold, the large mixing in $m_ν$ is a result of fine-tuning due to the cancellation of several terms. Then they are required from a viewpoint of naturalness. They give an explanation of the seesaw-invariance of four-zero texture, and place rough restrictions on flavor structures of neutrinos. Under these conditions, $Y_ν$ must have a cascade hierarchy. For $M_{R}$, the 12 submatrix has a similar hierarchy as $Y_ν$ and $m_ν$. However, the 23 submatrix has a waterfall hierarchy without some fine-tuning. Therefore, it is likely that $Y_ν$ and $M_{R}$ have qualitatively different flavor structures. Furthermore, since the conditions restrict CP phases of the matrix elements, they imply existence of a universal generalized CP symmetry in the neutrino sector.

Diagonal reflection symmetries, four-zero texture, and trimaximal mixing with predicted $θ_{13}$ in an $A_{4}$ symmeric model

In this paper, we impose a magic symmetry on the neutrino mass matrix $m_ν$ with universal four-zero texture and diagonal reflection symmetries. Due to the magic symmetry, the MNS matrix has trimaximal mixing inevitably. Since the lepton sector has only six free parameters, physical observables of leptons are all determined from the charged leptons masses $m_{ei}$, the neutrino mass differences $Δm_{i1}^{2}$, and the mixing angle $θ_{23}$. This scheme predicts $\sin θ_{13} = 0.149$, that is almost equal to the latest best fit, as a function of the lepton masses $m_{e, μ}$ and the mass differences $Δm_{i1}^{2}$. Moreover, even if the mass matrix has perturbations that break the magic symmetry, the prediction of $\sin θ_{13}$ is retained with good accuracy for the four-zero texture with diagonal reflection symmetries.

Interplay between $μ$-$τ$ reflection symmetry, four-zero texture and universal texture

In this letter, we consider exact $μ-τ$ reflection symmetries for quarks and leptons. Fermion mass matrices are assumed to be four-zero textures for charged fermions $f = u,d,e$ and a symmetric matrix for neutrinos $ν_{L}$. By a bi-maximal transformation, all the mass matrices lead to $μ-τ$ reflection symmetric forms, which seperately satisfy $T_{u} \, m_{u,ν}^{*} \, T_{u} = m_{u,ν}$ and $T_{d} \, m_{d,e}^{*} \, T_{d} = m_{d,e}$. Reconciliation between the $μ-τ$ reflection symmetries and observed $\sin θ_{13}$ predicts $δ_{CP} \simeq 203^{\circ}$. Moreover, imposition of universal texture $(m_{f})_{11} = 0$ for $f=u,d,ν,e$ predicts the normal hierarchy with the lightest neutrino mass $|m_{1}| = 6.26$ or $2.54$ meV.

Flavor structure from misalignment of inner products in noncommutative geometry

In this letter, we consider an idea that induces flavor structure from inner products in noncommutative geometry. Assuming proper components of vectors $v_{(L,R) i}$ in enlarged representation space for fermions, we can induce the waterfall texture for Yukawa matrices retaining gauge interactions are universal. The hierarchy of the Yukawa interactions is a consequence of "misalignment" between the vectors $v_{Li}$ and $v_{Rj}$.

Hierarchical majorana neutrinos from democratic mass matrices

In this paper, we obtain the light neutrino masses and mixings consistent with the experiments, in the democratic texture approach. The essential ansatz is that $ν_{Ri}$ are assumed to transform as "right-handed fields" $\bf 2_{R} + 1_{R}$ under the $S_{3L} \times S_{3R}$ symmetry. The symmetry breaking terms are assumed to be diagonal and hierarchical. This setup only allows the normal hierarchy of the neutrino mass, and excludes both of inverted hierarchical and degenerated neutrinos. Although the neutrino sector has nine free parameters, several predictions are obtained at the leading order. When we neglect the smallest parameters $ζ_ν$ and $ζ_{R}$, all components of the mixing matrix $U_{\rm PMNS}$ are expressed by the masses of light neutrinos and charged leptons. From the consistency between predicted and observed $U_{\rm PMNS}$, we obtain the lightest neutrino masses $m_{1}$ = (1.1 $\to$ 1.4) meV, and the effective mass for the double beta decay $\vev{m_{ee}} \simeq$ 4.5 meV.

A symmetry breaking mechanism by parity assignment in the noncommutative Higgs model

We apply the orbifold grand unified theory (GUT) mechanism to the noncommutative Higgs model. An assignment of $Z_{2}$ parity to the "constituent fields" induces parity assignments of both the gauge and Higgs bosons, because these bosons are treated as some kind of composite field in this formalism. As a result, some of the gauge bosons and the colored triplet Higgs boson receive heavy mass comparable to the GUT scale, and the gauge symmetry is broken. No particles appear other than the SM ones in the massless states.

Nilpotent Matrix Representation of Exterior Derivative Operator in Noncommutative Geometry

In this letter, we show a nilpotent matrix representation of the exterior derivative operator in noncommutative geometry (NCG), by translating the noncommutative relations of the algebraic formalization into the original one. As a result, we can construct the extended gauge theory without complicated algebraic rules nor excessively large differential algebra and non-monomorphic representation.

Reconstruction of the standard model with classical conformal invariance in noncommutative geometry

In this paper, we derive the standard model with classical conformal invariance from the Yang--Mills--Higgs model in noncommutative geometry (NCG). In the ordinary context of the NCG, the {\it distance matrix} $M_{nm}$ which corresponds to the vacuum expectation value of Higgs fields is taken to be finite. However, since $M_{nm}$ is arbitrary in this formulation, we can take all $M_{nm}$ to be zero. In the original composite scheme, the Higgs field itself vanishes with the condition $M_{nm} = 0$. Then, we adopt the elemental scheme, in which the gauge and the Higgs bosons are regarded as elemental fields. By these assumptions, all scalars do not have vevs at tree level. The symmetry breaking mechanism will be implemented by the Coleman--Weinberg mechanism. As a result, we show a possibility to solve the hierarchy problem in the context of NCG. Unfortunately, the Coleman--Weinberg mechanism does not work in the SM Higgs sector, because the Coleman--Weinberg effective potential becomes unbounded from below for $m_{t} > m_{Z}$. However, viable models can be possible by proper extensions.

SU(5) orbifold GUT in noncommutative geometry

In this paper, we appliy the orbifold GUT mechanism to the SU(5) model in noncommutative geometry, including the fermonic sector. Imposing proper parity assignments for "constituent fields" of bosons and fermions, the couplings between fermions and the heavy bosons $X_μ, Y_μ$, and $ H^{c}$ are prohibited by the parity symmetry. As a result, the derived fermionic Lagrangian is just that of the standard model, and proton decay is forbidden at tree level. If quantum fluctuation respects the parity symmetry, the process will be naturally suppressed or even forbidden completely.

QCD Corrections to Neutron Electric Dipole Moment from Dimension-six Four-Quark Operators

In this paper, the renormalization-group equations for the (flavor-conserving) CP-violating interaction are derived up to the dimension six, including all the four-quark operators, at one-loop level. We apply them to the models with the neutral scalar boson or the color-octet scalar boson which have CP-violating Yukawa interactions with quarks, and discuss the neutron electric dipole moment in these models.
