Hodge polynomials of the SL(2,C)-character variety of an elliptic curve with two marked points

We compute the Hodge polynomials for the moduli space of representations of an elliptic curve with two marked points into SL(2,C). When we fix the conjugacy classes of the representations around the marked points to be diagonal and of modulus one, the character variety is diffeomorphic to the moduli space of strongly parabolic Higgs bundles, whose Betti numbers are known. In that case we can recover some of the Hodge numbers of the character variety. We extend this result to the moduli space of doubly periodic instantons.

A lax monoidal Topological Quantum Field Theory for representation varieties

We construct a lax monoidal Topological Quantum Field Theory that computes Deligne-Hodge polynomials of representation varieties of the fundamental group of any closed manifold into any complex algebraic group GG. As byproduct, we obtain formulas for these polynomials in terms of homomorphisms between the space of mixed Hodge modules on GG. The construction is developed in a categorical-theoretic framework allowing its application to other situations.

Bohr--Sommerfeld Lagrangians of moduli spaces of Higgs bundles

Let XX be a compact connected Riemann surface of genus at least two. Let MH(r,d)M_H(r,d) denote the moduli space of semistable Higgs bundles on XX of rank rr and degree dd. We prove that the compact complex Bohr-Sommerfeld Lagrangians of MH(r,d)M_H(r,d) are precisely the irreducible components of the nilpotent cone in MH(r,d)M_H(r,d). This generalizes to Higgs GG-bundles and also to the parabolic Higgs bundles.

Integrable systems and Torelli theorems for the moduli spaces of parabolic bundles and parabolic Higgs bundles

We prove a Torelli theorem for the moduli space of semistable parabolic Higgs bundles over a smooth complex projective algebraic curve under the assumption that the parabolic weight system is generic. When the genus is at least two, using this result we also prove a Torelli theorem for the moduli space of semistable parabolic bundles of rank at least two with generic parabolic weights. The key input in the proofs is a method of J.C. Hurtubise, Integrable systems and algebraic surfaces, Duke Math. Jour. 83 (1996), 19--49.

The Topology of Parabolic Character Varieties of Free Groups

Let G be a complex affine algebraic reductive group, and let K be a maximal compact subgroup of G. Fix elements h_1,...,h_m in K. For n greater than or equal to 0, let X (respectively, Y) be the space of equivalence classes of representations of the free group of m+n generators in G (respectively, K) such that for each i between 1 and m, the image of the i-th free generator is conjugate to h_i. These spaces are parabolic analogues of character varieties of free groups. We prove that Y is a strong deformation retraction of X. In particular, X and Y are homotopy equivalent. We also describe explicit examples relating X to relative character varieties.

On moduli spaces of Hitchin pairs

Let XX be a compact Riemann surface XX of genus at--least two. Fix a holomorphic line bundle LL over XX. Let M\mathcal M be the moduli space of Hitchin pairs (E,ϕ∈H0(End(E)⊗L))(E ,ϕ\in H^0(End(E)\otimes L)) over XX of rank rr and fixed determinant of degree dd. We prove that, for some numerical conditions, M\mathcal M is irreducible, and that the isomorphism class of the variety M\mathcal M uniquely determines the isomorphism class of the Riemann surface XX.

Moduli of Parabolic Higgs Bundles and Atiyah Algebroids

In this paper we study the geometry of the moduli space of (non-strongly) parabolic Higgs bundles over a Riemann surface with marked points. We show that this space possesses a Poisson structure, extending the one on the dual of an Atiyah algebroid over the moduli space of parabolic vector bundles. By considering the case of full flags, we get a Grothendieck-Springer resolution for all other flag types, in particular for the moduli spaces of twisted Higgs bundles, as studied by Markman and Bottacin and used in the recent work of Laumon-Ngô. We discuss the Hitchin system, and demonstrate that all these moduli spaces are integrable systems in the Poisson sense.

Torelli theorem for the Deligne--Hitchin moduli space

Fix integers g≥3g\geq 3 and r≥2r\geq 2, with r≥3r\geq 3 if g=3g=3. Given a compact connected Riemann surface XX of genus gg, let $\MDH(X)$ denote the corresponding SL(r,C)\text{SL}(r, {\mathbb C}) Deligne--Hitchin moduli space. We prove that the complex analytic space $\MDH(X)$ determines (up to an isomorphism) the unordered pair {X,X‾}\{X, \overline{X}\}, where X‾\overline{X} is the Riemann surface defined by the opposite almost complex structure on XX.
