Maximal characterisation of local Hardy spaces on locally doubling manifolds

We prove a radial maximal function characterisation of the local atomic Hardy space h^1(M) on a Riemannian manifold M with positive injectivity radius and Ricci curvature bounded from below. As a consequence, we show that an integrable function belongs to h^1(M) if and only if either its local heat maximal function or its local Poisson maximal function are integrable. A key ingredient is a decomposition of Hölder cut-offs in terms of an appropriate class of approximations of the identity, which we obtain on arbitrary Ahlfors-regular metric measure spaces and generalises a previous result of A. Uchiyama.

BMO spaces on weighted homogeneous trees

We consider an infinite homogeneous tree $\mathcal V$ endowed with the usual metric $d$ defined on graphs and a weighted measure $μ$. The metric measure space $(\mathcal V,d,μ)$ is nondoubling and of exponential growth, hence the classical theory of Hardy and $BMO$ spaces does not apply in this setting. We introduce a space $BMO(μ)$ on $(\mathcal V,d,μ)$ and investigate some of its properties. We prove in particular that $BMO(μ)$ can be identified with the dual of a Hardy space $H^1(μ)$ introduced in a previous work and we investigate the sharp maximal function related with $BMO(μ)$.

A family of Hardy type spaces on nondoubling manifolds

We introduce a decreasing one-parameter family $\mathfrak{X}^γ(M)$, $γ>0$, of Banach subspaces of the Hardy-Goldberg space $\mathfrak{h}^1(M)$ on certain nondoubling Riemannian manifolds with bounded geometry and we investigate their properties. In particular, we prove that $\mathfrak{X}^{1/2}(M)$ agrees with the space of all functions in $\mathfrak{h}^1(M)$ whose Riesz transform is in $L^1(M)$, and we obtain the surprising result that this space does not admit an atomic decomposition.

Analysis on harmonic extensions of H-type groups

The subject of this PhD thesis is harmonic analysis on solvable extensions of H-type groups. Let N be an H-type group and S=NA be its solvable extension of rank one. The author study the weak type 1 boundedness of suitable Hardy-Littlewood maximal functions on S and develop a Calderon-Zygmund theory on S. The previous theory is then applied to obtain a Mihlin-Hormander type theorem for spectral multipliers of a distinguished Laplacian on S.

Equivalent Characterizations for Boundedness of Maximal Singular Integrals on $ax+b$\,--Groups

Let $(S, d, ρ)$ be the affine group $\mathrm{R}^n \ltimes \mathrm{R}^+$ endowed with the left-invariant Riemannian metric $d$ and the right Haar measure $ρ$, which is of exponential growth at infinity. In this paper, for any linear operator $T$ on $(S, d, ρ)$ associated with a kernel $K$ satisfying certain integral size condition and Hörmander's condition, the authors prove that the following four statements regarding the corresponding maximal singular integral $T^\ast$ are equivalent: $T^\ast$ is bounded from $L_c^\infty$ to $\mathrm{BMO}$, $T^\ast$ is bounded on $L^p$ for all $p\in(1, \infty)$, $T^\ast$ is bounded on $L^p$ for certain $p\in(1, \infty)$ and $T^\ast$ is bounded from $L^1$ to $L^{1,\,\infty}$. As applications of these results, for spectral multipliers of a distinguished Laplacian on $(S, d, ρ)$ satisfying certain Mihlin-Hörmander type condition, the authors obtain that their maximal singular integrals are bounded from $L_c^\infty$ to $\mathrm{BMO}$, from $L^1$ to $L^{1,\,\infty}$, and on $L^p$ for all $p\in(1, \infty)$.

Heat maximal function on a Lie group of exponential growth

Let G be the Lie group R^2\rtimes R^+ endowed with the Riemannian symmetric space structure. Let X_0, X_1, X_2 be a distinguished basis of left-invariant vector fields of the Lie algebra of G and define the Laplacian Δ=-(X_0^2+X_1^2+X_2^2). In this paper, we show that the maximal function associated with the heat kernel of the Laplacian Δis bounded from the Hardy space H^1 to L^1. We also prove that the heat maximal function does not provide a maximal characterization of the Hardy space H^1.

Dyadic Sets, Maximal Functions and Applications on $ax+b$ --Groups

Let $S$ be the Lie group $\mathrm{R}^n\ltimes \mathrm{R}^+$ endowed with the left-invariant Riemannian symmetric space structure and the right Haar measure $ρ$, which is a Lie group of exponential growth. Hebisch and Steger in [Math. Z. 245(2003), 37--61] proved that any integrable function on $(S,ρ)$ admits a Calderón--Zygmund decomposition which involves a particular family of sets, called Calderón--Zygmund sets. In this paper, we first show the existence of a dyadic grid in the group $S$, which has {nice} properties similar to the classical Euclidean dyadic cubes. Using the properties of the dyadic grid we shall prove a Fefferman--Stein type inequality, involving the dyadic maximal Hardy--Littlewood function and the dyadic sharp dyadic function. As a consequence, we obtain a complex interpolation theorem involving the Hardy space $H^1$ and the $BMO$ space introduced in [Collect. Math. 60(2009), 277--295].

Schrödinger equation on Damek-Ricci spaces

In this paper we consider the Laplace-Beltrami operator Δon Damek-Ricci spaces and derive pointwise estimates for the kernel of exp(τΔ), when τ\in C* with Re(τ) \geq 0. When τ\in iR*, we obtain in particular pointwise estimates of the Schrödinger kernel associated with Δ. We then prove Strichartz estimates for the Schrödinger equation, for a family of admissible pairs which is larger than in the Euclidean case. This extends the results obtained by Anker and Pierfelice on real hyperbolic spaces. As a further application, we study the dispersive properties of the Schrödinger equation associated with a distinguished Laplacian on Damek-Ricci spaces, showing that in this case the standard dispersive estimate fails while suitable weighted Strichartz estimates hold.
