Deformations of polystable sheaves on surfaces: quadraticity implies formality

We study relations between the quadraticity of the Kuranishi family of a coherent sheaf on a complex projective scheme and the formality of the DG-Lie algebra of its derived endomorphisms. In particular, we prove that for a polystable coherent sheaf on a smooth complex projective surface the DG-Lie algebra of derived endomorphisms is formal if and only if the Kuranishi family is quadratic.

Homotopy abelianity of the DG-Lie algebra controlling deformations of pairs (variety with trivial canonical bundle, line bundle)

We investigate the deformations of pairs $(X,L)$, where $L$ is a line bundle on a smooth projective variety $X$, defined over an algebraically closed field $\mathbb{K}$ of characteristic 0. In particular, we prove that the DG-Lie algebra controlling the deformations of the pair $(X,L)$ is homotopy abelian whenever $X$ has trivial canonical bundle, and so these deformations are unobstructed.

Deformations of algebraic schemes via Reedy-Palamodov cofibrant resolutions

Let $X$ be a Noetherian separated and finite dimensional scheme over a field $\mathbb{K}$ of characteristic zero. The goal of this paper is to study deformations of $X$ over a differential graded local Artin $\mathbb{K}$-algebra by using local Tate-Quillen resolutions, i.e., the algebraic analog of the Palamodov's resolvent of a complex space. The above goal is achieved by describing the DG-Lie algebra controlling deformation theory of a diagram of differential graded commutative algebras, indexed by a direct Reedy category.

Universal Lie Formulas for Higher Antibrackets

We prove that the hierarchy of higher antibrackets (aka higher Koszul brackets, aka Koszul braces) of a linear operator $Δ$ on a commutative superalgebra can be defined by some universal formulas involving iterated Nijenhuis-Richardson brackets having as arguments $Δ$ and the multiplication operators. As a byproduct, we can immediately extend higher antibrackets to noncommutative algebras in a way preserving the validity of generalized Jacobi identities.

On coisotropic deformations of holomorphic submanifolds

We describe the differential graded Lie algebras governing Poisson deformations of a holomorphic Poisson manifold and coisotropic embedded deformations of a coisotropic holomorphic submanifold. In both cases, under some mild additional assumption, we show that the infinitesimal first order deformations induced by the anchor map are unobstructed. Applications include the analog of Kodaira stability theorem for coisotropic deformation and a generalization of McLean-Voisin's theorem about the local moduli space of lagrangian submanifold. Finally it is shown that our construction is homotopy equivalent to the homotopy Lie algebroid, in the cases where this is defined.

Formality of Koszul brackets and deformations of holomorphic Poisson manifolds

We show that if a generator of a differential Gerstenhaber algebra satisfies certain Cartan-type identities, then the corresponding Lie bracket is formal. Geometric examples include the shifted de Rham complex of a Poisson manifold and the subcomplex of differential forms on a symplectic manifold vanishing on a Lagrangian submanifold, endowed with the Koszul bracket. As a corollary we generalize a recent result by Hitchin on deformations of holomorphic Poisson manifolds.

L-infinity structures on mapping cones

We show that the mapping cone of a morphism of differential graded Lie algebras $χ\colon L\to M$ can be canonically endowed with an $L_\infty$-algebra structure which at the same time lifts the Lie algebra structure on $L$ and the usual differential on the mapping cone. Moreover, this structure is unique up to isomorphisms of $L_\infty$-algebras. The associated deformation functor coincides with the one introduced by the second author in arXiv:math.AG/0507287.

Lie description of higher obstructions to deforming submanifolds

To every morphism $χ\colon L\to M$ of differential graded Lie algebras we associate a functors of artin rings $\Def_χ$ whose tangent and obstruction spaces are respectively the first and second cohomology group of the cylinder of $χ$. Such construction applies to Hilbert and Brill-Noether functors and allow to prove with ease that every higher obstruction to deforming a smooth submanifold of a Kaehler manifold is annihilated by the semiregularity map.
