A reciprocity on finite abelian groups involving zero-sum sequences II

Let $G$ be a finite abelian group. For any positive integers $d$ and $m$, let $φ_G(d)$ be the number of elements in $G$ of order $d$ and $\mathsf M(G,m)$ be the set of all zero-sum sequences of length $m$. In this paper, for any finite abelian group $H$, we prove that $$|\mathsf M(G,|H|)|=|\mathsf M(H,|G|)|$$ if and only if $φ_G(d)=φ_H(d)$ for any $d|(|G|,|H|)$. We also consider an extension of this result to non-abelian groups in terms of invariant theory.

Genuine hidden nonlocality without entanglement: from the perspective of local discrimination

Quantum nonlocality without entanglement is a fantastic phenomenon in quantum theory. This kind of quantum nonlocality is based on the task of local discrimination of quantum states. Recently, Bandyopadhyay and Halder [Phys. Rev. A 104, L050201 (2021)] studied the problem: is there any set of orthogonal states which can be locally distinguishable, but under some orthogonality preserving local measurement, each outcome will lead to a locally indistinguishable set. We say that the set with such property has hidden nonlocality. Moreover, if such phenomenon can not arise from discarding subsystems which is termed as local irredundancy, we call it genuine hidden nonlocality. There, they presented several sets of entangled states with genuine hidden nonlocality. However, they doubted the existence of a set without entanglement but with genuine hidden nonlocality. In this paper, we eliminate this doubt by constructing a series of sets without entanglement but whose nonlocality can be genuinely activated. We derive a method to tackle with the local irredundancy problem which is a key tricky for the systems whose local dimensions are composite numbers. As Bandyopadhyay and Halder have been pointed out, sets with genuine hidden nonloclity would lead to some applications on the data hiding.

Strong quantum nonlocality for unextendible product bases in heterogeneous systems

A set of multipartite orthogonal product states is strongly nonlocal if it is locally irreducible in every bipartition, which shows the phenomenon of strong quantum nonlocality without entanglement. It is known that unextendible product bases (UPBs) can show the phenomenon of quantum nonlocality without entanglement. Thus it is interesting to investigate the strong quantum nonlocality for UPBs. Most of the UPBs with the minimum size cannot demonstrate strong quantum nonlocality. In this paper, we construct a series of UPBs with different large sizes in $d_A\otimes d_B\otimes d_C$ and $d_A\otimes d_B\otimes d_C\otimes d_D$ for $d_A, d_B, d_C, d_D\geq 3$, and we also show that these UPBs have strong quantum nonlocality, which answers an open question given by Halder \emph{et al.} [Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{122}, 040403 (2019)] and Yuan \emph{et al.} [Phys. Rev. A \textbf{102}, 042228 (2020)] for any possible three and four-partite systems. Furthermore, we propose an entanglement-assisted protocol to locally discriminate the UPB in $3\otimes 3\otimes 4$, and it consumes less entanglement resource than the teleportation-based protocol. Our results build the connection between strong quantum nonlocality and UPBs.

Strongly nonlocal unextendible product bases do exist

A set of multipartite orthogonal product states is locally irreducible, if it is not possible to eliminate one or more states from the set by orthogonality-preserving local measurements. An effective way to prove that a set is locally irreducible is to show that only trivial orthogonality-preserving local measurement can be performed to this set. In general, it is difficult to show that such an orthogonality-preserving local measurement must be trivial. In this work, we develop two basic techniques to deal with this problem. Using these techniques, we successfully show the existence of unextendible product bases (UPBs) that are locally irreducible in every bipartition in $d\otimes d\otimes d$ for any $d\geq 3$, and $3\otimes3\otimes 3$ achieves the minimum dimension for the existence of such UPBs. These UPBs exhibit the phenomenon of strong quantum nonlocality without entanglement. Our result solves an open question given by Halder \emph{et al.} [Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{122}, 040403 (2019)] and Yuan \emph{et al.} [Phys. Rev. A \textbf{102}, 042228 (2020)]. It also sheds new light on the connections between UPBs and strong quantum nonlocality.

Local discrimination of generalized Bell states via commutativity

We studied the distinguishability of generalized Bell states under local operations and classical communication. We introduced the concept of maximally commutative set (MCS), subset of generalized Pauli matrices whose elements are mutually commutative and there is no other generalized Pauli matrix that is commute with all the elements of this set. We found that MCS can be considered as a detector for local distinguishability of set $\mathcal{S}$ of generalized Bell states. In fact, we got an efficient criterion. That is, if the difference set of $\mathcal{S}$ is disjoint with or completely contain in some MCS, then the set $\mathcal{S}$ is locally distinguishable. Furthermore, we gave a useful characterization of MCS for arbitrary dimension, which provides great convenience for detecting the local discrimination of generalized Bell states. Our method can be generalized to more general settings which contains lattice qudit basis. Results in [Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{92}, 177905 (2004)], [Phys. Rev. A \textbf{92}, 042320 (2015)] and a recent work [arXiv: 2109.07390] can be deduced as special cases of our result.

Probabilistic and Approximate Masking of Quantum Information

The no-masking theorem states that it is impossible to encode an arbitrary quantum state into the correlations between two subsystems so that no original information about is accessible in the marginal state of either subsystem. In this paper, we generalize this theorem to allow for failure of the protocol. We then bound the performance of a masking protocol when we are allowed a (probabilistic) approximate protocol.

Twist-teleportation based local discrimination of maximally entangled states

In this work, we study the local distinguishability of maximally entangled states (MESs). In particular, we are concerned with whether any fixed number of MESs can be locally distinguishable for sufficiently large dimensions. Fan and Tian \emph{et al.} have already obtained two satisfactory results for the generalized Bell states (GBSs) and the qudit lattice states when applied to prime or prime power dimensions. We construct a general twist-teleportation scheme for any orthonormal basis with MESs that is inspired by the method used in [Phys. Rev. A \textbf{70}, 022304 (2004)]. Using this teleportation scheme, we obtain a sufficient and necessary condition for one-way distinguishable sets of MESs, which include the GBSs and the qudit lattice states as special cases. Moreover, we present a generalized version of the results in [Phys. Rev. A \textbf{92}, 042320 (2015)] for the arbitrary dimensional case.

Connecting the UMEB in $\mathbb{C}^{d}\bigotimes\mathbb{C}^{d}$ with partial Hadamard matrices

We study the unextendible maximally entangled bases (UMEB) in $\mathbb{C}^{d}\bigotimes\mathbb{C}^{d}$ and connect it with the partial Hadamard matrix. Firstly, we show that for a given special UMEB in $\mathbb{C}^{d}\bigotimes\mathbb{C}^{d}$, there is a partial Hadamard matrix can not extend to a complete Hadamard matrix in $\mathbb{C}^{d}$. As a corollary, any $(d-1)\times d$ partial Hadamard matrix can extend to a complete Hadamard matrix. Then we obtain that for any $d$ there is an UMEB except $d=p\ \text{or}\ 2p$, where $p\equiv 3\mod 4$ and $p$ is a prime. Finally, we argue that there exist different kinds of constructions of UMEB in $\mathbb{C}^{nd}\bigotimes\mathbb{C}^{nd}$ for any $n\in \mathbb{N}$ and $d=3\times5 \times7$.

The local indistinguishability of multipartite product states

In this paper, we mainly study the local indistinguishability of multipartite product states. Firstly, we follow the method of Z.-C. Zhang \emph{et al}[Phys. Rev. A 93, 012314(2016)] to give another more concise set of $2n-1$ orthogonal product states in $\mathbb{C}^m\otimes\mathbb{C}^n(4\leq m\leq n)$ which can not be distinguished by local operations and classical communication(LOCC). Then we use the 3 dimension cubes to present some product states which give us an intuitive view how to construct locally indistinguishable product states in tripartite quantum system. At last, we give an explicit construction of locally indistinguishable orthogonal product states for general multipartite system.

Nonlocality of orthogonal product basis quantum states

We study the local indistinguishability of mutually orthogonal product basis quantum states in the high-dimensional quantum system. In the quantum system of $\mathbb{C}^d\otimes\mathbb{C}^d$, where $d$ is odd, Zhang \emph{et al} have constructed $d^2$ orthogonal product basis quantum states which are locally indistinguishable in [Phys. Rev. A. {\bf 90}, 022313(2014)]. We find a subset contains with $6d-9$ orthogonal product states which are still locally indistinguishable. Then we generalize our method to arbitrary bipartite quantum system $\mathbb{C}^m\otimes\mathbb{C}^n$. We present a small set with only $3(m+n)-9$ orthogonal product states and prove these states are LOCC indistinguishable. Even though these $3(m+n)-9$ product states are LOCC indistinguishable, they can be distinguished by separable measurements. This shows that separable operations are strictly stronger than the local operations and classical communication.

Unextendible maximally entangled bases in $\mathbb{C}^{d}\bigotimes\mathbb{C}^{d'}$

We solved the unextendible maximally entangled basis (UMEB) problem in $\mathbb{C}^{d}\bigotimes\mathbb{C}^{d'}(d\neq d')$,the results turn out to be that there always exist a UMEB.In addition, there might be two sets of UMEB with different numbers. The main difficult is to prove the unextendibility of the set of states. We give an explicit construction of UMEB by considering the Schmidt number of the complementary space of the states we construct.
