Entropic uncertainty relations and topological-band insulator transitions in 2D gapped Dirac materials

Uncertainty relations are studied for a characterization of topological-band insulator transitions in 2D gapped Dirac materials isostructural with graphene. We show that the relative or Kullback-Leibler entropy in position and momentum spaces, and the standard variance-based uncertainty relation, give sharp signatures of topological phase transitions in these systems.

Some properties of Grassmannian $U(4)/U(2)^2$ coherent states and an entropic conjecture

We analyze mathematical and physical properties of a previously introduced [J. Phys. A47, 115302 (2014)] family of $U(4)$ coherent states (CS). They constitute a matrix version of standard spin $U(2)$ CS when we add an extra (pseudospin) dichotomous degree of freedom: layer, sublattice, two-well, nucleon, etc. Applications to bilayer quantum Hall systems at fractions of filling factor $ν=2$ are discussed, where Haldane's sphere picture is generalized to a Grassmannian picture. We also extend Wehrl's definition of entropy from Glauber to Grassmannian CS and state a conjecture on the entropy lower bound.

Wavelet transform on the torus: a group theoretical approach

We construct a Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT) on the torus $\mathbb T^2$ following a group-theoretical approach based on the conformal group $SO(2,2)$. The Euclidean limit reproduces wavelets on the plane $\mathbb R^2$ with two dilations, which can be defined through the natural tensor product representation of usual wavelets on $\mathbb R$. Restricting ourselves to a single dilation imposes severe conditions for the mother wavelet that can be overcome by adding extra modular group $SL(2,\mathbb Z)$ transformations, thus leading to the concept of \emph{modular wavelets}. We define modular-admissible functions and prove frame conditions.

Almost Complete Coherent State Subsystems and Partial Reconstruction of Wave Functions in the Fock-Bargmann Phase-Number Representation

We provide (partial) reconstruction formulas and discrete Fourier transforms for wave functions in standard Fock-Bargmann (holomorphic) phase-number representation from a finite number $N$ of phase samples $\{θ_k=2πk/N\}_{k=0}^{N-1}$ for a given mean number $p$ of particles. The resulting Coherent State (CS) subsystem ${\cal S}=\{|z_k=p^{1/2}e^{iθ_k}>\}$ is complete (a frame) for truncated Hilbert spaces (finite number of particles) and reconstruction formulas are exact. For an unbounded number of particles, ${\cal S}$ is "almost complete" (a \textit{pseudo-frame}) and partial reconstruction formulas are provided along with an study of the accuracy of the approximation, which tends to be exact when $p<N$ and/or $N\to\infty$.

Sampling Theorem and Discrete Fourier Transform on the Hyperboloid

Using Coherent-State (CS) techniques, we prove a sampling theorem for holomorphic functions on the hyperboloid (or its stereographic projection onto the open unit disk $\mathbb D_1$), seen as a homogeneous space of the pseudo-unitary group SU(1,1). We provide a reconstruction formula for bandlimited functions, through a sinc-type kernel, and a discrete Fourier transform from $N$ samples properly chosen. We also study the case of undersampling of band-unlimited functions and the conditions under which a partial reconstruction from $N$ samples is still possible and the accuracy of the approximation, which tends to be exact in the limit $N\to\infty$.

Sampling Theorem and Discrete Fourier Transform on the Riemann Sphere

Using coherent-state techniques, we prove a sampling theorem for Majorana's (holomorphic) functions on the Riemann sphere and we provide an exact reconstruction formula as a convolution product of $N$ samples and a given reconstruction kernel (a sinc-type function). We also discuss the effect of over- and under-sampling. Sample points are roots of unity, a fact which allows explicit inversion formulas for resolution and overlapping kernel operators through the theory of Circulant Matrices and Rectangular Fourier Matrices. The case of band-limited functions on the Riemann sphere, with spins up to $J$, is also considered. The connection with the standard Euler angle picture, in terms of spherical harmonics, is established through a discrete Bargmann transform.

Generalized W(infinity) Higher-Spin Algebras and Symbolic Calculus on Flag Manifolds

We study a new class of infinite-dimensional Lie algebras W_\infty(p,q) generalizing the standard W_\infty algebra, viewed as a tensor operator algebra of SU(1,1) in a group-theoretic framework. Here we interpret W_\infty(p,q) either as an infinite continuation of the pseudo-unitary symmetry U(p,q), or as a "higher-U(p,q)-spin extension" of the diffeomorphism algebra diff(p,q) of the N=p+q torus U(1)^N. We highlight this higher-spin structure of W_\infty(p,q) by developing the representation theory of U(p,q) (discrete series), calculating higher-spin representations, coherent states and deriving Kähler structures on flag manifolds. They are essential ingredients to define operator symbols and to infer a geometric pathway between these generalized W_\infty symmetries and algebras of symbols of U(p,q)-tensor operators. Classical limits (Poisson brackets on flag manifolds) and quantum (Moyal) deformations are also discussed. As potential applications, we comment on the formulation of diffeomorphism-invariant gauge field theories, like gauge theories of higher-extended objects, and non-linear sigma models on flag manifolds.

Relativistic field equations from higher-order polarizations of the Poincaré group

The theory of free relativistic fields is shown to arise in a unified manner from higher-order, configuration-space, irreducible representations of the Poincaré group. A de Sitter subalgebra, in the massive case, and a Poincaré subalgebra, in the massless case, of the enveloping algebra of the Poincaré group are the suitable higher-order polarizations. In particular, a simple group-theoretic derivation of the Dirac equation is given.
