Measurement of the leptonic decay width of J/ψJ/ψ using initial state radiation

Using a data set of 2.93 fb−1^{-1} taken at a center-of-mass energy of s\sqrt{s} = 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we measure the process e+e−→J/ψγ→μ+μ−γe^+e^-\rightarrow J/ψγ\rightarrow μ^+μ^-γ and determine the product of the branching fraction and the electronic width Bμμ⋅Γee=(333.4±2.5stat±4.4sys)\mathcal B_{μμ}\cdot Γ_{ee} = (333.4 \pm 2.5_{\rm stat} \pm 4.4_{\rm sys})~eV. Using the earlier-published BESIII result for Bμμ\mathcal B_{μμ} = (5.973 ±\pm 0.007stat_{\rm stat} ±\pm 0.037sys_{\rm sys})\%, we derive the J/ψJ/ψ electronic width ΓeeΓ_{ee}~= (5.58 ±\pm 0.05stat_{\rm stat} ±\pm 0.08sys_{\rm sys}) keV.

Search for the weak decay η′→K±π∓η^{\prime}\to K^{\pm}π^{\mp} and precise measurement of the branching fraction B(J/ψ→ϕη′){\cal B}(J/ψ\toϕη^{\prime})

We present the first search for the rare decay of η′η^\prime into K±π∓K^{\pm}π^{\mp} in J/ψ→ϕη′J/ψ\toϕη^{\prime}, using a sample of 1.3×1091.3\times10^{9} J/ψJ/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector. No significant signal is observed, and the upper limit at the 90\% confidence level for the ratio B(η′→K±π∓)B(η′→γπ+π−)\frac{{\cal B}(η^{\prime}\to K^{\pm}π^{\mp})}{{\cal B}(η^{\prime}\toγπ^{+}π^{-})} is determined to be 1.3×10−41.3\times10^{-4}. In addition, we report the measurement of the branching fraction of J/ψ→ϕη′J/ψ\toϕη^{\prime} to be (5.10±0.03(stat.)±0.32(syst.))×10−4(5.10\pm0.03(\text{stat.})\pm0.32(\text{syst.}))\times10^{-4}, which agrees with previous results from BESII.

An amplitude analysis of the π0π0π^{0}π^{0} system produced in radiative J/ψJ/ψ decays

An amplitude analysis of the π0π0π^{0}π^{0} system produced in radiative J/ψJ/ψ decays is presented. In particular, a piecewise function that describes the dynamics of the π0π0π^{0}π^{0} system is determined as a function of Mπ0π0M_{π^{0}π^{0}} from an analysis of the (1.311±0.011)×109(1.311\pm0.011)\times10^{9} J/ψJ/ψ decays collected by the BESIII detector. The goal of this analysis is to provide a description of the scalar and tensor components of the π0π0π^0π^0 system while making minimal assumptions about the properties or number of poles in the amplitude. Such a model-independent description allows one to integrate these results with other related results from complementary reactions in the development of phenomenological models, which can then be used to directly fit experimental data to obtain parameters of interest. The branching fraction of J/ψ→γπ0π0J/ψ\to γπ^{0}π^{0} is determined to be (1.15±0.05)×10−3(1.15\pm0.05)\times10^{-3}, where the uncertainty is systematic only and the statistical uncertainty is negligible.

Measurement of B(ψ(3770)→γχc1)\mathcal B(ψ(3770)\toγχ_{c1}) and search for ψ(3770)→γχc2ψ(3770)\toγχ_{c2}

We report a measurement of the branching fraction of ψ(3770)→γχc1ψ(3770)\toγχ_{c1} and search for the transition ψ(3770)→γχc2ψ(3770)\rightarrow γχ_{c2} based on 2.92~fb−1^{-1} of e+e−e^+e^- data accumulated at s=3.773\sqrt{s}=3.773~GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The measured branching fraction of ψ(3770)→γχc1ψ(3770) \rightarrow γχ_{c1} is B(ψ(3770)→γχc1)=(2.48±0.15±0.23)×10−3\mathcal B(ψ(3770) \rightarrow γχ_{c1})=(2.48 \pm 0.15 \pm 0.23) \times 10^{-3}, which is the most precise measurement to date. The upper limit on the branching fraction of ψ(3770)→γχc2ψ(3770)\rightarrow γχ_{c2} at a 90%90\% confidence level is B(ψ(3770)→γχc2)<0.64×10−3\mathcal B(ψ(3770) \rightarrow γχ_{c2})<0.64 \times 10^{-3}. The corresponding partial widths are Γ(ψ(3770)→γχc1)=(67.5±4.1±6.7)Γ(ψ(3770) \to γχ_{c1}) =(67.5\pm 4.1\pm 6.7)~keV and Γ(ψ(3770)→γχc2)<17.4Γ(ψ(3770) \to γχ_{c2}) < 17.4~keV.

Measurement of yCPy_{CP} in D0−D‾0D^0-\overline{D}^0 oscillation using quantum correlations in e+e−→D0D‾0e^+e^-\to D^0\overline{D}^0 at s\sqrt{s} = 3.773\,GeV

We report a measurement of the parameter yCPy_{CP} in $\ensuremath{D^0}\xspace-\ensuremath{\overline{D}^{0}}\xspace$ oscillations performed by taking advantage of quantum coherence between pairs of $\ensuremath{D^0}\xspace \ensuremath{\overline{D}^{0}}\xspace$ mesons produced in e+e−e^+e^- annihilations near threshold. In this work, doubly-tagged $\ensuremath{D^0}\xspace \ensuremath{\overline{D}^{0}}\xspace$ events, where one DD decays to a CPCP eigenstate and the other DD decays in a semileptonic mode, are reconstructed using a data sample of 2.92\,fb−1^{-1} collected with the BESIII detector at the center-of-mass energy of s\sqrt{s} = 3.773\,GeV. We obtain yCP=(−2.0±1.3±0.7)%y_{CP} = (-2.0\pm1.3\pm0.7)\%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. This result is compatible with the current world average.

Measurement of the e+e−→ηJ/ψe^{+}e^{-} \to ηJ/ψ cross section and search for e+e−→π0J/ψe^{+}e^{-} \to π^{0} J/ψ at center-of-mass energies between 3.810 and 4.600~GeV

Using data samples collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider at center-of-mass energies from 3.810 to 4.600 GeV, we perform a study of e+e−→ηJ/ψe^{+}e^{-} \to ηJ/ψ and π0J/ψπ^0 J/ψ. Statistically significant signals of e+e−→ηJ/ψe^{+}e^{-} \to ηJ/ψ are observed at s\sqrt{s} = 4.190, 4.210, 4.220, 4.230, 4.245, 4.260, 4.360 and 4.420 GeV, while no signals of e+e−→π0J/ψe^{+}e^{-} \to π^{0} J/ψ are observed. The measured energy-dependent Born cross section for e+e−→ηJ/ψe^{+}e^{-} \to ηJ/ψ shows an enhancement around 4.2~GeV. The measurement is compatible with an earlier measurement by Belle, but with a significantly improved precision.

Measurement of the branching fractions of Ds+→η′XD_{s}^{+}\rightarrow η'X and Ds+→η′ρ+D_{s}^{+}\rightarrow η'ρ^{+} in e+e−→Ds+Ds−e^+e^-\to D^+_{s}D^-_{s}

We study Ds+D_{s}^{+} decays to final states involving the η′η' with a 482 \,pb−1^{-1} data sample collected at s\sqrt{s} = 4.009 \,GeV with the \mbox{BESIII} detector at the BEPCII collider. We measure the branching fractions B(Ds+→η′X)\mathcal{B}(D^+_{s}\rightarrow η'X) = (8.8±\pm1.8±\pm0.5)%\% and B(Ds+→η′ρ+)\mathcal{B}(D_{s}^{+}\rightarrow η'ρ^{+}) = (5.8±1.4±0.45.8\pm1.4\pm0.4)%\% where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. In addition, we estimate an upper limit on the non-resonant branching ratio B(Ds+→η′π+π0)<5.1%\mathcal{B}(D_{s}^{+}\rightarrow η'π^+π^0)<5.1\% at the 90%\% confidence level. Our results are consistent with CLEO's recent measurements and help to resolve the disagreement between the theoretical prediction and CLEO's previous measurement of B(Ds+→η′ρ+)\mathcal{B}(D_{s}^{+}\rightarrow η'ρ^{+}).

Measurement of the Matrix Elements for the Decays η→π+π−π0η\rightarrow π^{+}π^{-}π^0 and η/η′→π0π0π0η/η^{\prime}\rightarrowπ^0π^0π^0

Based on a sample of 1.31×1091.31 \times 10^9 J/ψJ/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, Dalitz plot analyses of selected 79,625 η→π+π−π0η\rightarrowπ^{+}π^{-}π^0 events, 33,908 η→π0π0π0η\rightarrowπ^0π^0π^0 events and 1,888 η′→π0π0π0η^{\prime}\rightarrowπ^0π^0π^0 events are performed. The measured matrix elements of η→π+π−π0η\rightarrowπ^+π^-π^0 are in reasonable agreement with previous measurements. The Dalitz plot slope parameters of η→π0π0π0η\rightarrowπ^0π^0π^0 and η′→π0π0π0η^{\prime}\rightarrowπ^0π^0π^0 are determined to be −0.055±0.014±0.004-0.055 \pm 0.014 \pm 0.004 and −0.640±0.046±0.047-0.640 \pm 0.046 \pm 0.047, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. Both values are consistent with previous measurements, while the precision of the latter one is improved by a factor of three. Final state interactions are found to have an important role in those decays.

Measurement of the proton form factor by studying e+e−→ppˉe^{+} e^{-}\rightarrow p\bar{p}

Using data samples collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we measure the Born cross section of e+e−→ppˉe^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow p\bar{p} at 12 center-of-mass energies from 2232.4 to 3671.0 MeV. The corresponding effective electromagnetic form factor of the proton is deduced under the assumption that the electric and magnetic form factors are equal (∣GE∣=∣GM∣)(|G_{E}|= |G_{M}|). In addition, the ratio of electric to magnetic form factors, ∣GE/GM∣|G_{E}/G_{M}|, and ∣GM∣|G_{M}| are extracted by fitting the polar angle distribution of the proton for the data samples with larger statistics, namely at s=\sqrt{s}= 2232.4 and 2400.0 MeV and a combined sample at s\sqrt{s} = 3050.0, 3060.0 and 3080.0 MeV, respectively. The measured cross sections are in agreement with recent results from BaBar, improving the overall uncertainty by about 30\%. The ∣GE/GM∣|G_{E}/G_{M}| ratios are close to unity and consistent with BaBar results in the same q2q^{2} region, which indicates the data are consistent with the assumption that ∣GE∣=∣GM∣|G_{E}|=|G_{M}| within uncertainties.

Using a sample of $1.06\times10^8\ \psip$ events produced in e+e−e^+e^- collisions at s\sqrt{s} = 3.686 GeV and collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we present studies of the decays $\klx+c.c.$ and $\gklx+c.c.$. Observation and Spin-Parity Determination of the X(1835)X(1835) in J/ψ→γKS0KS0ηJ/ψ\rightarrowγK^0_S K^0_Sη

We report an observation of the process J/ψ→γX(1835)→γKS0KS0ηJ/ψ\rightarrowγX(1835)\rightarrowγK^0_S K^0_Sη at low KS0KS0K^0_S K^0_S mass with a statistical significance larger than 12.9σσ using a data sample of 1.31×1091.31 \times 10^{9} J/ψJ/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector. In this region of phase space the KS0KS0K^0_S K^0_S system is dominantly produced through the f0(980)f_0(980). By performing a partial wave analysis, we determine the spin-parity of the X(1835)X(1835) to be JPC=0−+J^{PC}=0^{-+}. The mass and width of the observed X(1835)X(1835) are 1844±9(stat)−25+16(syst)1844\pm9(\text{stat})^{+16}_{-25}(\text{syst})~\MeV~and 192−17+20(stat)−43+62(syst)192^{+20}_{-17}(\text{stat})^{+62}_{-43}(\text{syst})~MeV, respectively, which are consistent with the results obtained by BESIII in the channel J/ψ→γπ+π−η′J/ψ\rightarrowγπ^+π^-η^{\prime}.

Observation of a neutral charmoniumlike state Zc(4025)0Z_c(4025)^0 in e+e−→(D∗Dˉ∗)0π0e^{+} e^{-} \to (D^{*} \bar{D}^{*})^{0} π^0

We report a study of the process e+e−→(D∗Dˉ∗)0π0e^{+} e^{-} \to (D^{*} \bar{D}^{*})^{0} π^0 using e+e−e^+e^- collision data samples with integrated luminosities of 1092pb−11092 \rm{pb}^{-1} at s=4.23GeV\sqrt{s}=4.23 \rm{GeV} and 826pb−1826 \rm{pb}^{-1} at s=4.26GeV\sqrt{s}=4.26 \rm{GeV} collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring. We observe a new neutral structure near the (D∗Dˉ∗)0(D^{*} \bar{D}^{*})^{0} mass threshold in the π0π^0 recoil mass spectrum, which we denote as Zc(4025)0Z_{c}(4025)^{0}. Assuming a Breit-Wigner line shape, its pole mass and pole width are determined to be (4025.5−4.7+2.0±3.1)MeV/c2(4025.5^{+2.0}_{-4.7}\pm3.1) \rm{MeV}/c^2 and (23.0±6.0±1.0)MeV(23.0\pm 6.0\pm 1.0) \rm{MeV}, respectively. The Born cross sections of e+e−→Zc(4025)0π0→(D∗Dˉ∗)0π0e^{+}e^{-}\to Z_{c}(4025)^{0} π^0\to (D^{*} \bar{D}^{*})^{0}π^0 are measured to be (61.6±8.2±9.0)pb(61.6\pm8.2\pm9.0) \rm{pb} at s=4.23GeV\sqrt{s}=4.23 \rm{GeV} and (43.4±8.0±5.4)pb(43.4\pm8.0\pm5.4) \rm{pb} at s=4.26GeV\sqrt{s}=4.26 \rm{GeV}. We report the observation of the X(3823)X(3823) in the process e+e−→π+π−X(3823)→π+π−γχc1e^+e^-\to π^+π^-X(3823) \to π^+π^-γχ_{c1} with a statistical significance of 6.2σ6.2σ, in data samples at center-of-mass energies s=\sqrt{s}=4.230, 4.260, 4.360, 4.420 and 4.600~GeV collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII electron positron collider. The measured mass of the X(3823)X(3823) is (3821.7±1.3±0.7)(3821.7\pm 1.3\pm 0.7)~MeV/c2c^2, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic, and the width is less than 1616~MeV at the 90\% confidence level. The products of the Born cross sections for e+e−→π+π−X(3823)e^+e^-\to π^+π^-X(3823) and the branching ratio B[X(3823)→γχc1,c2]\mathcal{B}[X(3823)\to γχ_{c1,c2}] are also measured. These measurements are in good agreement with the assignment of the X(3823)X(3823) as the ψ(13D2)ψ(1^3D_2) charmonium state.

Observation of the Dalitz Decay η′→γe+e−η' \to γe^+e^-

We report the first observation of the Dalitz decay η′→γe+e−η' \to γe^+e^-, based on a data sample of 1.31 billion J/ψJ/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector. The η′η' mesons are produced via the J/ψ→γη′J/ψ\to γη' decay process. The ratio Γ(η′→γe+e−)/Γ(η′→γγ)Γ(η' \to γe^+ e^-)/Γ(η'\toγγ) is measured to be (2.13±0.09(stat.)±0.07(sys.))×10−2(2.13\pm0.09(\text{stat.})\pm0.07(\text{sys.}))\times10^{-2}. This corresponds to a branching fraction B(η′→γe+e−)=(4.69±0.20(stat.)±0.23(sys.))×10−4{\cal B}(η' \to γe^+e^-)= (4.69 \pm0.20(\text{stat.})\pm0.23(\text{sys.}))\times10^{-4}. The transition form factor is extracted and different expressions are compared to the measured dependence on the e+e−e^+e^- invariant mass. The results are consistent with the prediction of the Vector Meson Dominance model.

Observation of the electromagnetic doubly OZI-suppressed decay J/ψ→ϕπ0J/ψ\rightarrow ϕπ^{0}

Using a sample of 1.311.31 billion J/ψJ/ψ events accumulated with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we report the observation of the decay J/ψ→ϕπ0J/ψ\rightarrow ϕπ^{0}, which is the first evidence for a doubly Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka suppressed electromagnetic J/ψJ/ψ decay. A clear structure is observed in the K+K−K^{+} K^{-} mass spectrum around 1.02 GeV/c2c^2, which can be attributed to interference between J/ψ→ϕπ0J/ψ\rightarrow ϕπ^{0} and J/ψ→K+K−π0J/ψ\rightarrow K^{+}K^{-}π^{0} decays. Due to this interference, two possible solutions are found. The corresponding measured values of the branching fraction of J/ψ→ϕπ0J/ψ\to ϕπ^{0} are [2.94±0.16(stat.)±0.16(syst.)]×10−6[2.94 \pm 0.16\text{(stat.)} \pm 0.16\text{(syst.)}] \times 10^{-6} and [1.24±0.33(stat.)±0.30(syst.)]×10−7[1.24 \pm 0.33\text{(stat.)} \pm 0.30\text{(syst.)}] \times 10^{-7}.

Observation of the isospin-violating decay J/ψ→ϕπ0f0(980)J/ψ\to ϕπ^{0}f_{0}(980)

Using a sample of 1.31 billion J/ψJ/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, the decays J/ψ→ϕπ+π−π0J/ψ\to ϕπ^{+}π^{-}π^{0} and J/ψ→ϕπ0π0π0J/ψ\to ϕπ^{0}π^{0}π^{0} are investigated. The isospin violating decay J/ψ→ϕπ0f0(980)J/ψ\to ϕπ^{0} f_{0}(980) with f0(980)→ππf_{0}(980) \to ππ, is observed for the first time. The width of the f0(980)f_{0}(980) obtained from the dipion mass spectrum is found to be much smaller than the world average value. In the π0f0(980)π^{0} f_{0}(980) mass spectrum, there is evidence of f1(1285)f_1(1285) production. By studying the decay J/ψ→ϕη′J/ψ\to ϕη', the branching fractions of η′→π+π−π0η' \to π^{+}π^{-}π^{0} and η′→π0π0π0η' \to π^{0}π^{0}π^{0}, as well as their ratio, are also measured.

Precision measurement of the D∗0D^{*0} decay branching fractions

Using 482 pb−1^{-1} of data taken at s=4.009\sqrt{s}=4.009 GeV, we measure the branching fractions of the decays of D∗0D^{*0} into D0π0D^0π^0 and D0γD^0γ to be $\BR(D^{*0} \to D^0π^0)=(65.5\pm 0.8\pm 0.5)%$ and $\BR(D^{*0} \to D^0γ)=(34.5\pm 0.8\pm 0.5)%$ respectively, by assuming that the D∗0D^{*0} decays only into these two modes. The ratio of the two branching fractions is $\BR(D^{*0} \to D^0π^0)/\BR(D^{*0} \to D^0γ) =1.90\pm 0.07\pm 0.05$, which is independent of the assumption made above. The first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones systematic. The precision is improved by a factor of three compared to the present world average values.

Study of e+e−→ωχcJe^+e^-\toωχ_{cJ} at center-of-mass energies from 4.21 to 4.42 GeV

Based on data samples collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at 9 center-of-mass energies from 4.21 to 4.42 GeV, we search for the production of e+e−→ωχcJe^+e^-\to ωχ_{cJ} (JJ=0, 1, 2). The process e+e−→ωχc0e^+e^-\to ωχ_{c0} is observed for the first time, and the Born cross sections at s\sqrt{s}=4.23 and 4.26 GeV are measured to be (55.4±6.0±5.9)(55.4\pm 6.0\pm 5.9) and (23.7±5.3±3.5)(23.7\pm 5.3\pm 3.5) pb, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. The ωχc0ωχ_{c0} signals at the other 7 energies and e+e−→ωχc1e^+e^-\to ωχ_{c1} and ωχc2ωχ_{c2} signals are not significant, and the upper limits on the cross sections are determined. By examining the ωχc0ωχ_{c0} cross section as a function of center-of-mass energy, we find that it is inconsistent with the line shape of the Y(4260)Y(4260) observed in e+e−→π+π−J/ψe^+ e^-\toπ^+π^-J/ψ. Assuming the ωχc0ωχ_{c0} signals come from a single resonance, we extract mass and width of the resonance to be (4230±8±6)(4230\pm8\pm6) MeV/c2c^2 and (38±12±2)(38\pm12\pm2) MeV, respectively, and the statistical significance is more than 9σ9σ.

Study of χcJχ_{cJ} decaying into ϕϕ K∗(892)K^*(892) Kˉ\bar{K}

Using a data sample of 106 million ψ(3686)ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector operated at the BEPCII storage ring, we study for the first time the decay χcJ→ϕKS0K±π∓χ_{cJ}\toϕK^{0}_S K^{\pm}π^{\mp} and χcJ→ϕK+K−π0χ_{cJ}\toϕK^{+} K^{-}π^{0} in the E1 radiative transition ψ(3686)→γχcJψ(3686)\toγχ_{cJ}. The decays are dominated by the three-body decay χcJ→ϕK∗(892)Kˉχ_{cJ}\to ϕK^*(892)\bar{K}. We measure branching fractions for this reaction via the neutral and charged K∗(892)K^*(892) and find them consistent with each other within the expectation of isospin symmetry. In the KKˉπK\bar{K}π invariant mass distribution a structure near the K∗(892)KˉK^*(892)\bar{K} mass threshold is observed, and the corresponding mass and width are measured to be 1412±4(stat.)±8(sys.)MeV/c21412\pm4(\mathrm{stat.})\pm8(\mathrm{sys.}) \mathrm{MeV}/c^2 and ΓΓ = 84±12(stat.)±40(sys.)MeV84\pm12(\mathrm{stat.})\pm40(\mathrm{sys.}) \mathrm{MeV}, respectively. The observed state favors an assignment to the h1(1380)h_1(1380), considering its possible JPCJ^{PC} and comparing its mass, width and decay mode to those reported in the Particle Data Group.

Study of ψ(3686)→π0hc,hc→γηcψ(3686)\toπ^0 h_c, h_c\toγη_c via ηcη_c exclusive decays

The process ψ(3686)→π0hc,hc→γηcψ(3686) \to π^0 h_c, h_c \to γη_c has been studied with a data sample of 106±4106 \pm 4 million ψ(3686)ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring. The mass and width of the PP-wave charmonium spin-singlet state hc(1P1)h_c(^1P_1) are determined by simultaneously fitting distributions of the π0π^0 recoil mass for 16 exclusive ηcη_c decay modes. The results, $M(\hc) = 3525.31 \pm 0.11 {\rm (stat.)} \pm 0.14 {\rm (syst.)}$\,MeV/c2c^2 and $Γ(\hc) = 0.70 \pm 0.28 \pm 0.22$\,MeV, are consistent with and more precise than previous measurements. We also determine the branching ratios for the 16 exclusive ηcη_c decay modes, five of which have not been measured previously. New measurements of the ηcη_c line-shape parameters in the E1E1 transition hc→γηch_c\toγη_c are made by selecting candidates in the hch_c signal sample and simultaneously fitting the hadronic mass spectra for the 16 ηcη_c decay channels. The resulting ηcη_c mass and width values are M(ηc)=2984.49±1.16±0.52M(η_c) = 2984.49 \pm 1.16 \pm 0.52\,MeV/c2c^2 and Γ(ηc)=36.4±3.2±1.7Γ(η_c) = 36.4 \pm 3.2 \pm 1.7\,MeV.

Measurement of the D→K−π+D\to K^-π^+ strong phase difference in ψ(3770)→D0D‾0ψ(3770)\to D^0\overline{D}{}^0

We study D0D‾0D^0\overline{D}{}^0 pairs produced in e+e−e^+e^- collisions at s=3.773\sqrt{s}=3.773 GeV using a data sample of 2.92 fb−1^{-1} collected with the BESIII detector. We measure the asymmetry AKπCP\mathcal{A}^{CP}_{Kπ} of the branching fractions of D→K−π+D \to K^-π^+ in CPCP-odd and CPCP-even eigenstates to be (12.7±1.3±0.7)×10−2(12.7\pm1.3\pm0.7)\times10^{-2}. AKπCP\mathcal{A}^{CP}_{Kπ} can be used to extract the strong phase difference δKπδ_{Kπ} between the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed process D‾0→K−π+\overline{D}{}^{0}\to K^-π^+ and the Cabibbo-favored process D0→K−π+D^0\to K^- π^+. Here, the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively, while the third uncertainty arises from the external parameters. Measurement of the branching fraction for ψ(3686)→ωK+K−ψ(3686)\toωK^+ K^-

With 1.06×1081.06\times 10^8 ψ(3686)ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector, the branching fraction of ψ(3686)→ωK+K−ψ(3686) \to ωK^+ K^- is measured to be (1.54±0.04±0.11)×10−4(1.54 \pm 0.04 \pm 0.11) \times 10^{-4}. This is the most precise result to date, due to the largest ψ(3686)ψ(3686) sample, improved signal reconstruction efficiency, good simulation of the detector performance, and a more accurate knowledge of the continuum contribution. Using the branching fraction of J/ψ→ωK+K−J/ψ\to ωK^+ K^-, the ratio B(ψ(3868)→K+K−)/B(J/ψ→K+K−)\mathcal{B}(ψ(3868) \to K^+K^-) / \mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to K^+K^-) is determined to be (18.4±3.7) %(18.4 \pm 3.7)\,\%. This constitutes a significantly improved test of the 12 %12\,\% rule, with the uncertainty now dominated by the J/ψJ/ψ branching fraction.

Nuclear modification factor in intermediate-energy heavy-ion collisions

The transverse momentum dependent nuclear modification factors (NMF), namely RCPR_{CP}, is investigated for protons produced in Au + Au at 1AA GeV within the framework of the isospin-dependent quantum molecular dynamics (IQMD) model. It is found that the radial collective motion during the expansion stage affects the NMF at low transverse momentum a lot. By fitting the transverse mass spectra of protons with the distribution function from the Blast-Wave model, the magnitude of radial flow can be extracted. After removing the contribution from radial flow, the RCPR_{CP} can be regarded as a thermal one and is found to keep unitary at transverse momentum lower than 0.6 GeV/c and enhance at higher transverse momentum, which can be attributed to Cronin effect.

Upper limits on the branching fractions are set to be B(J/ψ→γγ)<2.7×10−7\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to γγ) < 2.7 \times 10^{-7} and B(J/ψ→γϕ)<1.4×10−6\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to γϕ) < 1.4 \times 10^{-6} at the 90\% confidence level. The former is one order of magnitude more stringent than the previous upper limit, and the latter represents the first limit on this decay channel.

Search for the radiative transitions ψ(3770)→γηcψ(3770)\toγη_c and γηc(2S)γη_c(2S)

By using a 2.92 fb−1^{-1} data sample taken at s=3.773\sqrt{s} = 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider, we search for the radiative transitions ψ(3770)→γηcψ(3770)\toγη_c and γηc(2S)γη_c(2S) through the hadronic decays ηc(ηc(2S))→KS0K±π∓η_c(η_c(2S))\to K^0_SK^\pmπ^\mp. No significant excess of signal events above background is observed. We set upper limits at a 90% confidence level for the product branching fractions to be B(ψ(3770)→γηc)×B(ηc→KS0K±π∓)<1.6×10−5\mathcal{B}(ψ(3770)\toγη_c)\times \mathcal{B}(η_c\to K^0_SK^\pmπ^\mp) < 1.6\times10^{-5} and B(ψ(3770)→γηc(2S))×B(ηc(2S)→KS0K±π∓)<5.6×10−6\mathcal{B}(ψ(3770)\toγη_c(2S))\times \mathcal{B}(η_c(2S)\to K^0_SK^\pmπ^\mp) < 5.6\times10^{-6}. Combining our result with world-average values of B(ηc(ηc(2S))→KS0K±π∓)\mathcal{B}(η_c(η_c(2S))\to K^0_SK^\pmπ^\mp), we find the branching fractions B(ψ(3770)→γηc)<6.8×10−4\mathcal{B}(ψ(3770)\toγη_c) < 6.8\times10^{-4} and B(ψ(3770)→γηc(2S))<2.0×10−3\mathcal{B}(ψ(3770)\toγη_c(2S)) < 2.0\times10^{-3} at a 90% confidence level.

Observation of a charged charmoniumlike structure in e+e- to pi+pi-J/psi at \sqrt{s}=4.26 GeV

We study the process e+e- to pi+pi-J/psi at a center-of-mass energy of 4.260 GeV using a 525 pb^{-1} data sample collected with the BESIII detector operating at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider. The Born cross section is measured to be (62.9\pm 1.9\pm 3.7) pb, consistent with the production of the Y(4260). We observe a structure at around 3.9 GeV/c^2 in the π^\pm J/psi mass spectrum, which we refer to as the Z_c(3900). If interpreted as a new particle, it is unusual in that it carries an electric charge and couples to charmonium. A fit to the π^\pm J/psi invariant mass spectrum, neglecting interference, results in a mass of (3899.0\pm 3.6\pm 4.9) MeV/c^2 and a width of (46\pm 10\pm 20) MeV. Its production ratio is measured to be R=\frac{σ(e+e- to π^\pm Z_c(3900)^\mp to pi+pi-J/psi))} {σ(e+e- to pi+pi-J/psi)}=(21.5\pm 3.3\pm 7.5)%. In all measurements the first errors are statistical and the second are systematic.

Observation of a charged charmoniumlike structure Z_c(4020) and search for the Z_c(3900) in e+e- to pi+pi-h_c

We study e+e- --> pi+pi-h_c at center-of-mass energies from 3.90 GeV to 4.42 GeV using data samples collected with the BESIII detector operating at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider. The Born cross sections are measured at 13 energies, and are found to be of the same order of magnitude as those of e+e- --> pi+pi-J/psi but with a different line shape. In the π^\pm h_c mass spectrum, a distinct structure, referred to as Z_c(4020), is observed at 4.02 GeV/c^2. The Z_c(4020) carries an electric charge and couples to charmonium. A fit to the π^\pm h_c invariant mass spectrum, neglecting possible interferences, results in a mass of (4022.9\pm 0.8\pm 2.7) MeV/c^2 and a width of (7.9\pm 2.7\pm 2.6) MeV for the Z_c(4020), where the first errors are statistical and the second systematic. No significant Z_c(3900) signal is observed, and upper limits on the Z_c(3900) production cross sections in π^\pm h_c at center-of-mass energies of 4.23 and 4.26 GeV are set.

Evidence for the Direct Two-Photon Transition from ψ(3686)ψ(3686) to J/ψJ/ψ

The two-photon transition ψ(3686)→γγJ/ψψ(3686)\toγγJ/ψ is studied in a sample of 106 million ψ(3686)ψ(3686) decays collected by the BESIII detector. The branching fraction is measured to be $(3.1\pm0.6(\unit{stat})^{+0.8}_{-1.0}(\unit{syst})) \times10^{-4}$ using J/ψ→e+e−J/ψ\to e^+e^- and J/ψ→μ+μ−J/ψ\toμ^+μ^- decays, and its upper limit is estimated to be 4.5×10−44.5\times10^{-4} at the 90% conference level. This work represents the first measurement of a two-photon transition among charmonium states. The orientation of the ψ(3686)ψ(3686) decay plane and the J/ψJ/ψ polarization in this decay are also studied. In addition, the product branching fractions of sequential E1E1 transitions ψ(3686)→γχcJ,χcJ→γJ/ψ(J=0,1,2)ψ(3686)\toγχ_{cJ}, χ_{cJ}\toγJ/ψ(J=0,1,2) are reported.

In these final states, the decay ψ′→K2∗(1430)+K−+c.c.ψ'\to K_2^{*}(1430)^+K^-+c.c. is observed for the first time, and its branching fraction is measured to be (7.12±0.62(stat.)−0.61+1.13(syst.))×10−5(7.12\pm{0.62}{\rm (stat.)}^{+1.13}_{-0.61}{\rm (syst.)})\times 10^{-5}, which indicates a violation of the helicity selection rule in $\psip$ decays. The branching fractions of ψ′→K∗(892)+K−+c.c.,ϕη,ϕπ0ψ'\to K^*(892)^+K^-+c.c., ϕη, ϕπ^0 are also measured. The measurements are used to test the QCD predictions on charmonium decays.

First observation of the M1 transition ψ(3686)→γηc(2S)ψ(3686)\to γη_c(2S)

Using a sample of 106 million ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring, we have made the first measurement of the M1 transition between the radially excited charmonium S-wave spin-triplet and the radially excited S-wave spin-singlet states: ψ(3686)\toγη_c(2S). Analyses of the processes ψ(2S)\to γη_c(2S) with η_c(2S)\to \K_S^0 Kπand K^+K^-π^0 gave an η_c(2S) signal with a statistical significance of greater than 10 standard deviations under a wide range of assumptions about the signal and background properties. The data are used to obtain measurements of the η_c(2S) mass (M(η_c(2S))=3637.6\pm 2.9_\mathrm{stat}\pm 1.6_\mathrm{sys} MeV/c^2), width (Γ(η_c(2S))=16.9\pm 6.4_\mathrm{stat}\pm 4.8_\mathrm{sys} MeV), and the product branching fraction (\BR(ψ(3686)\to γη_c(2S))\times \BR(η_c(2S)\to K\bar Kπ) = (1.30\pm 0.20_\mathrm{stat}\pm 0.30_\mathrm{sys})\times 10^{-5}). Combining our result with a BaBar measurement of \BR(η_c(2S)\to K\bar K π), we find the branching fraction of the M1 transition to be \BR(ψ(3686)\toγη_c(2S)) = (6.8\pm 1.1_\mathrm{stat}\pm 4.5_\mathrm{sys})\times 10^{-4}.

We study the decays of the J/psi and psi' mesons to pi+pi-pi0 using data samples at both resonances collected with the BES III detector in 2009. We measure the corresponding branching fractions with unprecedented precision and provide mass spectra and Dalitz plots. The branching fraction for J/psi -> pi+pi-pi0 is determined to be (2.137 +- 0.004 (stat.) +0.058-0.056 (syst.) +0.027-0.026 (norm.))*10-2, and the branching fraction for psi' -> pi+pi-pi0 is measured as (2.14 +- 0.03 (stat.) +0.08-0.07 (syst.) +0.09-0.08 (norm.))*10-4. The J/psi decay is found to be dominated by an intermediate rho(770) state, whereas the psi' decay is dominated by di-pion masses around 2.2 GeV/c2, leading to strikingly different Dalitz distributions.

Search for hadronic transition χcJ→ηcπ+π−χ_{cJ}\toη_{c}π^{+}π^{-} and observation of χcJ→KKˉπππχ_{cJ}\to K\bar{K}πππ

Hadronic transitions of χcJ→ηcπ+π−χ_{cJ}\to η_{c}π^{+}π^{-} (J=0, 1, 2) are searched for using a sample of 1.06×1081.06\times 10^{8} ψ(3686)ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring. The $\etac$ is reconstructed with KS0K+π−+c.c.K_{S}^{0}K^{+}π^{-}+c.c. and K+K−π0K^{+}K^{-}π^{0} final states. No signals are observed in any of the three χcJχ_{cJ} states in either $\etac$ decay mode. At the 90% confidence level, the upper limits are determined to be $\BR(χ_{c0}\to η_{c}π^{+}π^{-})<0.07%$, $\BR(χ_{c1}\to η_{c}π^{+}π^{-})<0.32%$, and $\BR(χ_{c2}\to η_{c}π^{+}π^{-})<0.54%$. Study of the near-threshold ωϕωϕ mass enhancement in doubly OZI suppressed J/ψ→γωϕJ/ψ\to γωϕ decays

A 2.25×108\times10^8 $\jpsi$ event sample accumulated with the BESIII detector is used to study the doubly OZI suppressed decay modes $\jpsi\toγ\of$, $ω\to\ppp$, $ϕ\to\kk$. A strong deviation (>> 30σσ) from three-body $\jpsi\toγωϕ$ phase space is observed near the ωϕωϕ mass threshold that is consistent with a previous observation reported by the BESII experiment. A partial wave analysis with a tensor covariant amplitude that assumes that the enhancement is due to the presence of a resonance, the X(1810), is performed, and confirms that the spin-parity of the X(1810) is 0++0^{++}. Constraint on parameters of the Inverse Compton Scattering model for radio pulsars

The inverse Compton scattering (ICS) model can explain various pulse profile shapes and diversity of pulse profile evolution based on the mechanism that the radio emission is generated through inverse Compton scattering between secondary relativistic particles and radio waves from polar gap avalanches. In this paper, we study the parameter space of ICS model for 15 pulsars, which share the common pulse profile evolution phenomena that the pulse profiles are narrower at higher observing frequencies. Two key parameters, the initial Lorentz factor and the energy loss factor of secondary particles are constrained using the least square fitting method, where we fit the theoretical curve of the "beam-frequency mapping" of the ICS model to the observed pulse widths at multiple frequencies. The uncertainty of the inclination and viewing angles are taken into account in the fitting process. It is found that the initial Lorentz factor is larger than 4000, and the energy loss factor is between 20 and 560. The Lorentz factor is consistent with the prediction of the inner vacuum gap model. Such high energy loss factors suggest significant energy loss for secondary particles at altitudes of a few tens to hundreds of kilometers.
