Mass spectrum of the hidden-charm pentaquarks in the compact diquark model

The LHCb collaboration have recently updated their analysis of the resonant $J/ψp$ mass spectrum in the decay $Λ_b^0 \to J/ψp K^-$, making use of their combined Run 1 and Run 2 data. In the updated analysis, three narrow states, $P_c (4312)^+$, $P_c (4440)^+$,and $P_c (4457)^+$, are observed. The spin-parity assignments of these states are not yet known. We interpret these narrow resonances as compact hidden-charm diquark-diquark-antiquark pentaquarks. Using an effective Hamiltonian, based on constituent quarks and diquarks, we calculate the pentaquark mass spectrum for the complete $SU (3)_F$ lowest $S$- and $P$-wave multiplets, taking into account dominant spin-spin, spin-orbit, orbital and tensor interactions. The resulting spectrum is very rich and we work out the quark flavor compositions, masses, and $J^P$ quantum numbers of the pentaquarks. However, heavy quark symmetry restricts the observable states in $Λ_b$-baryon, as well as in the decays of the other weakly-decaying $b$-baryons, $Ξ_b$ and $Ω_b$. In addition, some of the pentaquark states are estimated to lie below the $J/ψp$ threshold in $Λ_b$-decays (and corresponding thresholds in $Ξ_b$- and $Ω_b$-decays). They decay via $c \bar c$ annihilation into light hadrons or a dilepton pair, and are expected to be narrower than the $P_c$-states observed. We anticipate their discovery, as well as of the other pentaquark states present in the spectrum at the LHC, and in the long-term future at a Tera-$Z$ factory.

Asymmetries in $B \to K^\ast \ell^+ \ell^-$ Decays and Two Higgs Doublet Model

The study of polarized branching ratio and different lepton polarization asymmeteries in the exclusive rare decays $B\rightarrow K^{\ast}\ell^{+}\ell^{-}$ ($\ell=μ, τ$) have been made in the standard model (SM) and in type III of the THDM. It has been found that the effects arise from the THDM are quite promising in the longitudinal and transverse polarized branching ratios $(\mathcal{B}_{L, T})$. Likewise, in case of $μ$'s as final state leptons, the polarized branching ratios have an order of magnitude difference from their SM results. Similar trends have also been observed both in the longitudinal and normal lepton polarization asymmetries $P_{L, N}$ as well as their average values. We hope that the possible signatures of these observables in $B\rightarrow K^{\ast}\ell^{+}\ell^{-}$ decays at different on going and future experiments will serve as a good tool in the indirect searches of an extra Higgs boson doublet.

Heavy quark symmetry and weak decays of the $b$-baryons in pentaquarks with a $c\bar{c}$ component

The discovery of the baryonic states $P_c^+(4380)$ and $P_c^+(4450)$ by the LHCb collaboration has evoked a lot of theoretical interest. These states have the minimal quark content $c \bar{c} u u d$. Interpreted as hidden charm diquark-diquark-antiquark baryons, the assigned spin and angular momentum quantum numbers are $P_c^+(4380)= \{\bar{c} [cu]_{s=1} [ud]_{s=1}; L_{\mathcal{P}}=0, J^{\rm P}=\frac{3}{2}^- \}$ and $P_c^+(4450)= \{\bar{c} [cu]_{s=1} [ud]_{s=0}; L_{\mathcal{P}}=1, J^{\rm P}=\frac{5}{2}^+ \}$, where $s=0,1$ are the spins of the diquarks and $L_{\mathcal{P}}=0,1$ are the orbital angular momentum quantum numbers of the pentaquarks. We point out that heavy quark symmetry allows only the higher mass pentaquark state $P_c^+(4450)$ having $[ud]_{s=0}$ to be produced in $Λ_b^0$ decays, whereas the lower mass state $P_c^+(4380)$ having $[ud]_{s=1}$ is disfavored. Pentaquark spectrum is rich enough to accommodate a $J^P=\frac{3}{2}^-$ state, which has the correct light diquark spin $\{\bar{c} [cu]_{s=1} [ud]_{s=0}; L_{\mathcal{P}}=0, J^{\rm P}=\frac{3}{2}^- \}$ to be produced in $Λ_b^0$ decays. Assuming that the orbital mass difference between the charmed pentaquarks is similar to the corresponding mass difference in the charmed baryons, we estimate the mass of the lower pentaquark $J^P=3/2^-$ state to be about 4110 MeV and suggest to reanalyze the LHCb data to search for this third state. We present the spectroscopy of the $S$- and $P$-wave pentaquark states having a $c\bar{c}$ pair and three light quarks using an effective Hamiltonian approach. Some of these pentaquarks can be produced in weak decays of the $b$-baryons. Combining heavy quark symmetry and the $SU(3)_F$ symmetry results in strikingly simple relations among the decay amplitudes which are presented here.

Analysis of Forward-Backward and Lepton Polarization Asymmetries in $B\to K_{1}\ell^{+}\ell^{-}$ Decays in the Two-Higgs-doublet Model

The exclusive semileptonic $B\to K_{1}(1270) \ell^{+}\ell^{-}$ ($\ell=μ, τ$) decays are analyzed in variants of two Higgs double models (THDMs). The mass eigenstates $K_{1}(1270)$ and $K_{1}(1400)$ are the mixture of two axial-vector SU(3) $^{1}{P}_{1}$ and $^{3}{P}_{1}$ states with the mixing angle $θ_{K}$. Making use of the form factors calculated in the Light Cone QCD approach and by taking the mixing angle $θ_{K}=-34^{\circ}$, the impact of the parameters of the THDMs on different asymmetries in above mentioned semileptonic $B$ meson decays are studied. In this context the forward-backward asymmetry and different lepton polarization asymmetries have been analyzed. We have found comprehensive effects of the parameters of the THDMs on the above mentioned asymmetries. Therefore, the precise measurements of these asymmetries at the LHC and different $B$ factories, for the above mentioned processes, can serve as a good tool to put some indirect constraints on the parametric space of the different versions of THDM.

Local Gauge Transformation for the Quark Propagator in an SU(N) Gauge Theory

In an SU(N) gauge field theory, the n-point Green functions, namely, propagators and vertices, transform under the simultaneous local gauge variations of the gluon vector potential and the quark matter field in such a manner that the physical observables remain invariant. In this article, we derive this intrinsically non perturbative transformation law for the quark propagator within the system of covariant gauges. We carry out its explicit perturbative expansion till O(g_s^6) and, for some terms, till O(g_s^8). We study the implications of this transformation for the quark-anti-quark condensate, multiplicative renormalizability of the massless quark propagator, as well as its relation with the quark-gluon vertex at the one-loop order. Setting the color factors C_F=1 and C_A=0, Landau-Khalatnikov-Fradkin transformation for the abelian case of quantum electrodynamics is trivially recovered.

Effects of neutral $Z^{\prime}$ boson in $B_{s} \to ϕ\ell^{+} \ell^{-}$ decay with polarized $ϕ$ and the unpolarized and polarized $CP$ violation asymmetry

The effects of new neutral $Z^\prime$ boson in $B_{s}\toϕ\ell^{+}\ell^{-}$, when $ϕ$ is longitudinal or transverse polarized, are studied. In addition, the implications of $Z^{\prime}$ boson on the unpolarized and polarized $CP$ violation asymmetries, with reference to lepton, are also presented. It is observed that the branching ratio with polarized $ϕ$ are quite sensitive to the $Z^{\prime}$ contributions which are coming through the modification of Wilson coefficients $C^{eff}_{9}$ and $C_{10}$. Moreover, the off-diagonal elements of the chiral $Z^{\prime}$ couplings contain new weak phase $ϕ_{sb}$ that provide a new source of $CP$ violation. Keeping in view that in the FCNC transitions the $CP$ violation asymmetries are highly suppressed in the SM, we have studied the unpolarized and polarized $CP$ violation asymmetries in $B_{s}\toϕ\ell^{+}\ell^{-}$ decays. Our results indicate that these $CP$ violation asymmetries are remarkably significant and can attribute the any new physics coming through the $Z^{\prime}$ boson. It is hoped that the accurate measurements of these asymmetries will not only help us to establish NP but will also give a chance to determine the precise values of the coupling parameters of the $Z^{\prime}$ boson.

Imprints of CP violation asymmetries in rare $Λ_{b}\to Λ\ell^{+}\ell^{-}$ decay in family non-universal $Z^{\prime}$ model

We investigate the exclusive rare baryonic $Λ_{b}\toΛ\ell^{+}\ell^{-}$ in a family non-universal $Z^{\prime}$ model, which is one of the natural extension of standard model. Using transition form factors, calculated in the framework of light cone QCD sum rules, we analyze the effects of polarized and unpolarized CP violation asymmetries for the said decay. Our results indicate that the value of unpolarized and polarized CP-violation asymmetries are considerable in both $Λ_{b}\toΛμ^{+}μ^{-}$ and $Λ_{b}\toΛτ^{+}τ^{-}$ channels and hence they give clear indication of new physics arising from the neutral $Z^{\prime}$ gauge boson. It is hoped that the measurements of these CP-violating asymmetries will not only help us to relate new physics, but also help us to determine the precise values of the parameters of new gauge boson $Z^{\prime}$.

Lepton Polarization Asymmetries of $H\toγτ^+τ^-$ Decays in Standard Model

Recently, CMS and ATLAS collaborations at LHC announced a Higgs like particle with mass near $125$GeV. Regarding this, to explore its intrinsic properties, different observables are needed to be measured precisely at the LHC for various decay channels of the Higgs. In this context, we calculate the final state lepton polarization asymmetries, namely, single lepton polarization asymmetries ($P_i$) and double lepton polarization asymmetries ($P_{ij}$) in the SM for radiative semileptonic Higgs decay $H\toγτ^+τ^-$. In the phenomenological analysis of these lepton polarization asymmetries both tree and loop level diagrams are considered and it is found that these diagrams give important contributions in the evaluation of said asymmetries. Interestingly, it is found that in $P_{ij}$ the tree level diagrams contribute separately, which however, are missing in the calculations of $P_i$ and the lepton forward-backward asymmetries ($A_{FB}$). Similar to the other observables such as the decay rate and the lepton forward-backward asymmetries, the $τ$-lepton polarization asymmetries would be interesting observables. The experimental study of these observables will provide a fertile ground to explore the intrinsic properties of the SM Higgs boson and its dynamics as well as help us to extract the signatures of the possible new physics beyond the SM.

Ward identities, $\bm{ B\to V}$ transition form factors and applications

Long distance effects are studied in the rare exclusive semileptonic $B_{(d,s)}\to V \ell^+ \ell^-$ decays, where $V$ denotes a $K^*$ or $ϕ$ meson. The form factors, which describe the meson transition amplitudes in the effective Hamiltonian approach, are calculated by means of Ward identities, experimental constraints and extrapolated within a general vector meson dominance framework. These form factors are then compared to the ones obtained in Lattice QCD simulations, with Light Cone Sum Rules and a Dyson-Schwinger equation approach. Additionally, the $B_d\to K^* \ell^+ \ell^-$ and $B_s\to ϕ\ell^+ \ell^- $ branching ratios are computed and the differential branching fractions are given as a function of the squared-momentum transfer.

Impact of $Z^{\prime}$ and UED parameters on different asymmetries in $B_{s} \to ϕ\ell^{+} \ell^{-}$ decays

A comprehensive study of the impact of new-physics on different observables for $B_{s}\to ϕ\ell^{+}\ell^{-}$ has been done. We examine the new physics models such as $Z^{\prime}$ and UED models, where the effects of new physics coming through the modification of Wilson coefficients. We have analyzed these effects through the theoretical prediction of the branching ratio, the forward-backward asymmetry, lepton polarization asymmetries and the helicity fractions of the final state meson. These all observables will definitely be measured in present and future colliders with great precision. We also pointed out that hadronic uncertainties in various physical observables are small which make them an ideal probe to establish new physics. Therefore, the measurements of these observables for the same decay would permit the detection of physics beyond the Standard Model and will also help us to distinguish between different new physics scenarios.

Analysis of B_{C} --> D_{s}^{*}l^{+}l^{-} in the Standard Model Beyond Third Generation

The weak decays of B_{c} --> D_{s}^{*}l^{+}l^{-} (l=mu,tau) are investigated in the Standard Model with fourth generation (SM4). Taking fourth generation quark mass m_{t'} of about 300 to 600 GeV with the CKM matrix elements V_{t'b}^{*}V_{t's} in the range (0.03-1.2)*10^{-2} and using the new CP odd phase (phi_{sb}) to be 90^{o} the analysis of decay rates, forward-backward asymmetries, lepton polarization asymmetries and the helicity fractions of D_{s}^{*} meson in B_{c} --> D_{s}^{*}l^{+}l^{-} (l=mu,tau) is made. It is shown that the values of these physical observables are greatly influenced by the effects of extra sequential quark generation in the SM. It is found that the zero position of the forward-backward asymmetry in B_{c} --> D_{s}^{*} mu^{+} mu^{-} deviates significantly from that of the SM value while the effects in the decay rate, helicity fractions of D_s^{*} meson and the lepton polarization asymmetries are also quite promising. In B_{c} --> D_{s}^{*} tau^{+} tau^{-} decay, the SM4 the NP effects are somewhat mild in the decay rate and forward-backward asymmetry but they have shown them up in the longitudinal and transverse lepton polarization and also in the helicity fractions of the D_{s}^{*} meson which differ distinctively from the SM values. Thus the study of these physical observables will provide us useful information to probe new physics and helps us to search for the fourth generation of quarks (t',b') in an indirect way.

Comparative Study of B_{c} --> D_{s}^{*}l^{+}l^{-} Decays in Standard Model and Supersymmetric Models

A comparative study of the exclusive rare $B_{c}\rightarrow D_{s}^{\ast}\ell^{+}\ell^{-}$ ($\ell=μ, τ$) decays has been made in the minimal supersymmetric models (MSSM) and the SUSY SO(10) GUT models. In this context, various physical observables such as branching ratios $(\mathcal{BR})$, forward-backward asymmetries $(\mathcal{A}_{FB})$, lepton polarization asymmetries $(P_{L,N,T})$ and helicity fractions ($f_{L,T}$) of $D_{s}^{\ast}$ meson by using the the QCD sum rules form factors have been investigated. It is found that the SUSY effects are characteristically prominent to that of the SM values for these observables. For instance, in SUSY I and SUSY II, the forward-backward asymmetry does not cross zero which is mainly due to the same sign of the $C_{7}^{eff}$ and $C_{9}^{eff}$ Wilson coefficients. Similarly in SUSY SO(10) GUT models due to the complex nature of the new Wilson coefficients -- corresponding to the new operators arising due to the contribution of neutral Higgs bosons (NHBs) -- the above mentioned observables are sizably affected. Therefore the analysis of said observables in charmed semileptonic $B$ meson decays can put some stringent constraints on the parameter space of SUSY variants and can serve as a windowpane to look beyond the SM.

Complementarity of Semileptonic $B$ to $K_2^*(1430)$ and $K^*(892)$ Decays in the Standard Model with Fourth Generation

The $B\rightarrow K_{2}^{\ast}(1430)l^{+}l^{-}$ $(l=μ,τ)$ decays are analyzed in the Standard Model extended to fourth generation of quarks (SM4). The decay rate, forward-backward asymmetry, lepton polarization asymmetries and the helicity fractions of the final state $K^{*}_{2}(1430)$ meson are obtained using the form factors calculated in the light cone sum rules (LCSR) approach. We have utilized the constraints on different fourth generation parameters obtained from the experimental information on $K$, $B$ and $D$ decays and from the electroweak precision data to explore their impact on the $B\rightarrow K_{2}^{\ast}(1430)l^{+}l^{-}$ decay. We find that the values of above mentioned physical observables deviate deviate significantly from their minimal SM predications. We also identify a number of correlations between various observables in $B\rightarrow K_{2}^{\ast}(1430)l^{+}l^{-}$ and $B\rightarrow K^{\ast}(892)l^{+}l^{-}$ decays. Therefore a combined analysis of these two decays will compliment each other in the searches of SM4 effects in flavor physics.

Fourth-generation SM imprints in B -> K^*l^+l^- decays with polarized K^*

The implication of the fourth-generation quarks in the B -> K^*l^+l^- (l=mu,tau) decays, when K^* meson is longitudinally or transversely polarized, is presented. In this context, the dependence of the branching ratio with polarized K^* and the helicity fractions (f_{L,T}) of K^* meson are studied. It is observed that the polarized branching ratios as well as helicity fractions are sensitive to the NP parameters, especially when the final state leptons are tauons. Hence the measurements of these observables at LHC can serve as a good tool to investigate the indirect searches of new physics beyond the Standard Model.

Model Independent Analysis of the Forward-Backward Asymmetry for the $B\to K_{1}μ^{+}μ^{-}$ Decay

The sensitivity of the zero position of the forward backward asymmetry $\mathcal{A}_{FB}$ for the exclusive $B\rightarrow K_{1}(1270)μ^{+}μ^{-}$ decay is examined by using most general non-standard 4-fermion interactions. Our analysis shows that the zero position of the forward backward asymmetry is very sensitive to the sign and size of the Wilson coefficients corresponding to the new vector type interactions, which are the counter partners of the usual Standard Model operators but have opposite chirality. In addition to these, the other significant effect comes from the interference of Scalar-Pseudoscalar and Tensor type operators. These results will not only enhance our theoretical understanding about the axial vector mesons but will also serve as a good tool to look for physics beyond the SM.

Semileptonic B to Scalar meson Decays in the Standard Model with Fourth Generation

We study the effects of the fourth generation of quarks on the total branching ratio and the lepton polarizations in $\bar{B}_{0}\rightarrow K_{0}^{\ast}(1430)l^{+}l^{-}$($l$ = $μ$, $τ$) decay. Taking fourth generation quark mass $m_{t{\prime}}$ of about $400$ to $600$ GeV with the mixing angle $|V_{t^{\prime}b}^{\ast}V_{t^{\prime}s}|$ in the range $(0.05-1.4)\times 10^{-2}$ and using the phase to be $80^{o}$%, it is found that the branching ratio and lepton polarizations are quite sensitive to these fourth generation parameters. In future the experimental study of this decay will give us an opportunity to study new physics effects, precisely, to search for the fourth generation of quarks $% (t^{\prime},b^{\prime})$ in an indirect way.

Semileptonic charmed $B$ meson decays in Universal Extra Dimension Model

Form factors parameterizing the semileptonic decay $B_{c}\rightarrow D_{s}^{\ast}l^{+}l^{-}$ ($l=μ,τ$) are calculated using the frame work of Ward Identities. These form factors are then used to calculate the physical observables like branching ratio and helicity fractions of final state $D_{s}^{\ast}$ meson in these decay modes. The analysis is then extended to the the universal extra dimension (UED) model where the dependence of above mentioned physical variables to the compactification radius R, the only unknown parameter in UED model, is studied. It is shown that the helicity fractions of $D_{s}^{\ast}$ are quite sensitive to the UED model especially when have muons as the final state lepton. Therefore, these can serve as a useful tool to establish new physics predicted by the UED model.

A case for hidden $b\bar{b}$ tetraquarks based on $e^+e^- \to b\bar{b}$ cross section between $\sqrt{s}=10.54$ and 11.20 GeV

We study the spectroscopy and dominant decays of the bottomonium-like tetraquarks (bound diquarks-antidiquarks), focusing on the lowest lying P-wave $[bq][\bar{b}\bar{q}]$ states $Y_{[bq]}$ (with $q=u,d$), having $J^{PC}=1^{--}$. To search for them, we analyse the BABAR data \cite{:2008hx} obtained during an energy scan of the $e ^+ e^- \to b \bar{b}$ cross section in the range of $\sqrt{s}=10.54$ to 11.20 GeV. We find that these data are consistent with the presence of an additional $b \bar{b}$ state $Y_{[bq]}$ with a mass of 10.90 GeV and a width of about 30 MeV apart from the $Υ(5S)$ and $Υ(6S)$ resonances. A closeup of the energy region around the $Y_{[bq]}$-mass may resolve this state in terms of the two mass eigenstates, $Y_{[b,l]}$ and $Y_{[b,h]}$, with a mass difference, estimated as about 6 MeV. We tentatively identify the state $Y_{[bq]}(10900)$ from the $R_b$-scan with the state $Y_b(10890)$ observed by BELLE \cite{Abe:2007tk} in the process $e^+e^- \to Y_b(10890) \to Υ(1S, 2S) π^+ π^-$ due to their proximity in masses and decay widths.

Tetraquark interpretation of the BELLE data on the anomalous $Υ(1S) π^+π^-$ and $Υ(2S) π^+π^-$ production near the $Υ(5S)$ resonance

We analyze the Belle data [K. F. Chen {\it et al.} (Belle Collaboration), Phys.\ Rev.\ Lett.\ {\bf 100}, 112001 (2008); I. Adachi {\it et al.} (Belle Collaboration), arXiv:0808.2445] on the processes $e^+ e^- \to Υ(1S)\; π^+π^-, Υ(2S)\; π^+π^-$ near the peak of the $Υ(5S)$ resonance, which are found to be anomalously large in rates compared to similar dipion transitions between the lower $Υ$ resonances. Assuming these final states arise from the production and decays of the $J^{PC}=1^{--}$ state $Y_b(10890)$, which we interpret as a bound (diquark-antidiquark) tetraquark state $[bq][\bar{b}\bar{q}]$, a dynamical model for the decays $Y_b \to Υ(1S)\; π^+π^-, Υ(2S)\; π^+π^-$ is presented. Depending on the phase space, these decays receive significant contributions from the scalar $0^{++}$ states, $f_0(600)$ and $f_0(980)$, and from the $2^{++}$ $q\bar{q}$-meson $f_2(1270)$. Our model provides excellent fits for the decay distributions, supporting $Y_b$ as a tetraquark state.

$B \to K^{\ast}_0(1430) l^{+} l^{-}$ decays in supersymmetric theories

The weak decays of $B \to K^{\ast}_0(1430) l^{+} l^{-}$ ($l=μ, τ$) are investigated in Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) and also in Supersymmetric (SUSY) SO(10) Grand Unified Models. Neutral Higgs bosons are the point of main focus in MSSM because they make quite a large contribution in exclusive $B \to X_{s} l^{+} l^{-}$ decays at large $\tanβ$ regions of parameter space of SUSY models, as part of SUSY contributions is proportional to $\tan^{3}β$. The analysis of decay rate, forward-backward asymmetries and lepton polarization asymmetries in $B \to K^{\ast}_0(1430) l^{+} l^{-}$ show that the values of these physical observables are greatly modified by the effects of neutral Higgs bosons. In SUSY SO(10) GUT model, the new physics contribution comes from the operators which are induced by the neutral Higgs boson penguins and also from the operators with chirality opposite to that of the corresponding Standard Model (SM) operators. SUSY SO(10) effects show up only in the decay $B \to K^{\ast}_0 μ^{+} μ^{-}$ where the transverse lepton polarization asymmetries deviate significantly from the SM value while the effects in the decay rate, forward-backward asymmetries, the longitudinal and normal lepton polarization asymmetries are very mild. The transverse lepton polarization asymmetry is almost zero in SM and in MSSM model, whereas it can reach to -0.3 in SUSY SO(10) GUT model which could be seen at the future colliders; hence this asymmetry observable can be used to discriminate between different SUSY models.

Form factors and branching ratio for the B -> l nu gamma decay

Form factors parameterizing radiative leptonic decays of heavy mesons $% (B^{+}\to γl^{+}ν_{l}) $ for photon energy are computed in the language of dispersion relation. The contributing states to the absorptive part in the dispersion relation are the multiparticle continum, estimated by quark triangle graph and resonances with quantum numbers $1^{-}$ and $1^{+}$ which includes $B^{*}$ and $B_{A}^{*}$ and thier radial excitations, which model the higher state contributions. Constraints provided by the asymptotic behavior of the structure dependent amplitude, Ward Identities and gauge invariance are used to provide useful information for parameters needed. The couplings $g_{BB^{*}γ}$ and $% f_{BB_{A}^{*}γ}$ are predicted if we restrict to first radial excitation; otherwise using these as an input the radiative decay coupling constants for radial excitations are predicted. The value of the branching ratio for the process $B^{+}\to γμ^{+}ν_μ$ is found to be in the range $0.5\times 10^{-6}$. A detailed comparison is given with other approaches.

Role of lepton flavor violating (LFV) muon decay in Seesaw model and LSND

The aim of the work is to study LFV in a newly proposed Seesaw model of neutrino mass and to see whether it could explain LSND excess. The motivation of this Seesaw model was that there was no new physics beyond the TeV scale. By studying μ\to 3e in this model, it is shown that the upper bound on the branching ratio requires Higgs mass m_{h} of a new scalar doublet with lepton number L=-1 needed in the model has to be about 9 TeV. The predicted branching ratio for μ\to eν_{l}\barν_{l} is too small to explain the LSND. PACS: 11.30.Hv, 14.60.Pq

Studying Bounds on Lepton Flavor Violating (LFV) Decay Processes

This dissertation reviews the Standard Model formalism as well as the Lepton Flavour Violating (LFV) decay processes which cause its extension, known as the physics beyond the SM. Firstly, using the experimental bounds on three body LFV decays, the corresponding bounds on two body LFV decays are reviewed. The dynamical suppression of three body LFV decays due to momentum dependent couplings is also reviewed. Secondly, the role of the LFV decays to explain the LSND excess is discussed in detail, for which the experimental bounds on three body LFV decays, i.e. μ-> 3e are used to constraint the coupling \tilde{g}_{Z_{μe}}, which is needed to calculate the anomalous muon decay μ-> eν_l\barν_l. Then comparing the effective coupling of anomalous muon decay to r>1.6\times 10^{-3} [9809524], it is proved that LFV is not the correct hypothesis to explain the LSND excess. Finally, LFV decays at loop order are studied in Seesaw model of neutrino masses [PRL. 86 2502 (2001)] where the smallness of the Seesaw neutrino mass may be naturally realized with m_N (mass of right-handed singlet neutrinos) of order 1 TeV. It is shown that the Higgs mass of a new scalar doublet with lepton number L=-1 needed in the model has to be larger than 50 TeV to get the branching ratio of μ-> 3e to be consistent with the existing bound on μ-> 3e. This defeats the original motivation of the model, namely that there is no physics beyond the TeV energy scale.
