Investigation of measuring hazardous substances in printed circuit boards using the micro-focus X-ray fluorescence screening

Printed circuit boards (PCBs) are widely used in most electrical and electronic equipments or products. Hazardous substances such as Pb, Hg, Cd, etc, can be present in high concentrations in PCBs and the degradation and release of these substances poses a huge threat to humans and the environment. To investigation the chemical composition of PCBs in domestic market of China, a practical micro-focus X-ray fluorescence system is setup to make the elements analysis, especially for detecting hazardous substances. Collimator is adopted to focus the X-ray emitted from X-ray tube. BRUKER X-ray detector with proportional counter is used to detect the emitted fluorescence from the PCB samples. Both single layer PCB samples and double layers PCB samples made of epoxy glass fiber are purchased from the domestic market of China. Besides, a MC55 wireless communication module made by SIEMENS in Germany is used as the reference material. Experimental results from the fluorescence spectrums of the testing points of PCB samples show that, hazardous substances, mainly Pb and Br, are detected from the welding pads and substrates. In addition, statistical data about the average relatively amount of the main substances in testing points are also illustrated. It is verified that micro-XRF screening offers a simple and quick qualitative measurement of hazardous substances in PCBs.

Unified BRST description of AdS gauge fields

A concise formulation for mixed-symmetry gauge fields on AdS space is proposed. It is explicitly local, gauge invariant, and has manifest AdS symmetry. Various other known formulations (including the original formulation of Metsaev and the unfolded formulation) can be derived through the appropriate reductions and gauge fixing. As a byproduct, we also identify some new useful formulations of the theory that can be interesting for further developments. The formulation is presented in the BRST terms and extensively uses Howe duality. In particular, the BRST operator is a sum of the term associated to the spacetime isometry algebra and the term associated to the Howe dual symplectic algebra.

Massless Poincare modules and gauge invariant equations

Starting with an indecomposable Poincare module M_0 induced from a given irreducible Lorentz module we construct a free Poincare invariant gauge theory defined on the Minkowski space. The space of its gauge inequivalent solutions coincides with (in general, is closely related to) the starting point module M_0. We show that for a class of indecomposable Poincare modules the resulting theory is a Lagrangian gauge theory of the mixed-symmetry higher spin fields. The procedure is based on constructing the parent formulation of the theory. The Labastida formulation and the unfolded description of the mixed symmetry fields are reproduced through the appropriate reductions of the parent formulation. As an independent check we show that in the momentum representation the solutions form a unitary irreducible Poincare module determined by the respective module of the Wigner little group.

Surface charges and dynamical Killing tensors for higher spin gauge fields in constant curvature spaces

In the context of massless higher spin gauge fields in constant curvature spaces, we compute the surface charges which generalize the electric charge for spin one, the color charges in Yang-Mills theories and the energy-momentum and angular momentum for asymptotically flat gravitational fields. We show that there is a one-to-one map from surface charges onto divergence free Killing tensors. These Killing tensors are computed by relating them to a cohomology group of the first quantized BRST model underlying the Fronsdal action.

Seiberg-Witten maps from the point of view of consistent deformations of gauge theories

Noncommutative versions of theories with a gauge freedom define (when they exist) consistent deformations of their commutative counterparts. General aspects of Seiberg-Witten maps are discussed from this point of view. In particular, the existence of the Seiberg-Witten maps for various noncommutative theories is related to known cohomological theorems on the rigidity of the gauge symmetries of the commutative versions. In technical terms, the Seiberg-Witten maps define canonical transformations in the antibracket that make the solutions of the master equation for the commutative and noncommutative versions coincide in their antifield-dependent terms. As an illustration, the on-shell reducible noncommutative Freedman-Townsend theory is considered.
