Holographic variables for CFT$_2$ conformal blocks with heavy operators

We consider large-$c$ $n$-point Virasoro blocks with $n-k$ background heavy operators and $k$ perturbative heavy operators. Conformal dimensions of heavy operators scale linearly with large $c$, while splitting into background/perturbative operators assumes an additional perturbative expansion. Such conformal blocks can be calculated within the monodromy method that basically reduces to solving auxiliary Fuchsian second-order equation and finding monodromy of solutions. We show that there exist particular variables that we call holographic, use of which drastically simplifies the whole analysis. In consequence, we formulate the uniformization property of the large-$c$ blocks which states that in the holographic variables their form depends only on the number of perturbative heavy operators. On the other hand, the holographic variables encode the metric in the bulk space so that the conformal blocks with the same number of perturbative operators are calculated by the same geodesic trees but on different geometries created by the background operators.

On BF-type higher-spin actions in two dimensions

We propose a non-abelian higher-spin theory in two dimensions for an infinite multiplet of massive scalar fields and infinitely many topological higher-spin gauge fields together with their dilaton-like partners. The spectrum includes local degrees of freedom although the field equations take the form of flatness and covariant constancy conditions because fields take values in a suitable extension of the infinite-dimensional higher-spin algebra $hs[λ]$. The corresponding action functional is of BF-type and generalizes the known topological higher-spin Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity.

From global to heavy-light: 5-point conformal blocks

We consider Virasoro conformal blocks in the large central charge limit. There are different regimes depending on the behavior of the conformal dimensions. The most simple regime is reduced to the global sl(2, C) conformal blocks while the most complicated one is known as the classical conformal blocks. Recently, Fitzpatrick, Kaplan, and Walters showed that the two regimes are related through the intermediate stage of the so-called heavy-light semiclassical limit. We study this idea in the particular case of the 5-point conformal block. To find the 5-point global block we use the projector technique and the Casimir operator approach. Furthermore, we discuss the relation between the global and the heavy-light limits and construct the heavy-light block from the global block. In this way we reproduce our previous results for the 5-point perturbative classical block obtained by means of the monodromy method.

Holographic interpretation of 1-point toroidal block in the semiclassical limit

We propose the holographic interpretation of the 1-point conformal block on a torus in the semiclassical regime. To this end we consider the linearized version of the block and find its coefficients by means of the perturbation procedure around natural seed configuration corresponding to the zero-point block. From the AdS/CFT perspective the linearized block is given by the geodesic length of the tadpole graph embedded into the thermal AdS plus the holomorphic part of the thermal AdS action.

Classical conformal blocks via AdS/CFT correspondence

We continue to develop the holographic interpretation of classical conformal blocks in terms of particles propagating in an asymptotically $AdS_3$ geometry. We study $n$-point block with two heavy and $n-2$ light fields. Using the worldline approach we propose and explicitly describe the corresponding bulk configuration, which consists of $n-3$ particles propagating in the conical defect background produced by the heavy fields. We test this general picture in the case of five points. Using the special combinatorial representation of the Virasoro conformal block we compute $5$-point classical block and find the exact correspondence with the bulk worldline action. In particular, the bulk analysis relies upon the special perturbative procedure which treats the $5$-point case as a deformation of the $4$-pt case.

Uniformizing higher-spin equations

Vasiliev's higher-spin theories in various dimensions are uniformly represented as a simple system of equations. These equations and their gauge invariances are based on two superalgebras and have a transparent algebraic meaning. For a given higher-spin theory these algebras can be inferred from the vacuum higher-spin symmetries. The proposed system of equations admits a concise AKSZ formulation. We also discuss novel higher-spin systems including partially-massless and massive fields in AdS, as well as conformal and massless off-shell fields.

Conformal blocks of W_N Minimal Models and AGT correspondence

We study the AGT correspondence between four-dimensional supersymmetric gauge field theory and two-dimensional conformal field theories in the context of W_N minimal models. The origin of the AGT correspondence is in a special integrable structure which appears in the properly extended conformal theory. One of the basic manifestations of this integrability is the special orthogonal basis which arises in the extended theory. We propose modification of the AGT representation for the W_N conformal blocks in the minimal models. The necessary modification is related to the reduction of the orthogonal basis. This leads to the explicit combinatorial representation for the conformal blocks of minimal models and employs the sum over N-tupels of Young diagrams with additional restrictions.

Frame-like Lagrangians and presymplectic AKSZ-type sigma models

We study supergeometric structures underlying frame-like Lagrangians. We show that for the theory in n spacetime dimensions both the frame-like Lagrangian and its gauge symmetries are encoded in the target supermanifold equipped with the odd vector field, the closed 2-form of ghost degree n-1, and the scalar potential of ghost degree n. These structures satisfy a set of compatibility conditions ensuring the gauge invariance of the theory. The Lagrangian and the gauge symmetries have the same structures as those of AKSZ sigma model so that frame-like formulation can be seen as its presymplectic generalization. In contrast to the conventional AKSZ model the generalization allows to describe systems with local degrees of freedom in terms of finite-dimensional target space. We argue that the proposed frame-like approach is directly related de Donder-Weyl polymomentum Hamiltonian formalism. Along with the standard field-theoretical examples like Einstein-Yang-Mills theory we consider free higher spin fields, multi-frame gravity, and parameterized systems. In particular, we propose the frame-like action for free totally symmetric massless fields that involves all higher spin connections on an equal footing.

Global and local properties of AdS(2) higher spin gravity

Two-dimensional BF theory with infinitely many higher spin fields is proposed. It is interpreted as the AdS(2) higher spin gravity model describing a consistent interaction between local fields in AdS(2) space including gravitational field, higher spin partially-massless fields, and dilaton fields. We carry out analysis of the frame-like and the metric-like formulation of the theory. Infinite-dimensional higher spin global algebras and their finite-dimensional truncations are realized in terms of o(2,1) - sp(2) Howe dual auxiliary variables.

On higher spin extension of the Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity model

We formulate AdS_2 higher spin gravity as BF theory with fields taking values in sl(N,R) algebra treated as higher spin algebra. The theory is topological and naturally extends the Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity model so as to include higher spin fields. The BF equations linearized about AdS_2 background are interpreted as describing higher spin partially-massless fields of maximal depth along with dilaton fields. It is shown that there are dual metric-like formulations following from the original linearized BF higher spin theory. The duality establishes a dynamical equivalence of the metric-like field equations that can be given either as massive scalar field equations or as conservation conditions for higher spin currents.

Massless hook field in AdS(d+1) from the holographic perspective

We systematically consider the AdS/CFT correspondence for a simplest mixed-symmetry massless gauge field described by hook Young diagram. We introduce the radial gauge fixing and explicitly solve the Dirichlet problem for the hook field equations. Solution finding conveniently splits in two steps. We first define an incomplete solution characterized by a functional freedom and then impose the boundary conditions. The resulting complete solution is fixed unambiguously up to boundary values. Two-point correlation function of hook primary operators is found via the corresponding boundary effective action computed separately in even and odd boundary dimensions. In particular, the higher-derivative action for boundary conformal hook fields is identified with a singular part of the effective action in even dimensions. The bulk/boundary symmetry transmutation within the Dirichlet boundary problem is explicitly studied. It is shown that traces of boundary fields are Stueckelberg-like modes that can be algebraically gauged away so that boundary fields are traceless.

Mixed-symmetry tensor conserved currents and AdS/CFT correspondence

We present the full list of conserved currents built of two massless spinor fields in Minkowski space and their derivatives multiplied by Clifford algebra elements. The currents have particular mixed-symmetry type described by Young diagrams with one row and one column of arbitrary lengths and heights. Along with Yukawa-like totally antisymmetric currents the complete set of constructed currents exactly matches the spectrum of AdS mixed-symmetry fields arising in the generalized Flato-Fronsdal theorem for two spinor singletons. As a by-product, we formulate and study general properties of primary fields and conserved currents of mixed-symmetry type.

Unified BRST approach to (partially) massless and massive AdS fields of arbitrary symmetry type

We construct a concise gauge invariant formulation for massless, partially massless, and massive bosonic AdS fields of arbitrary symmetry type at the level of equations of motion. Our formulation admits two equivalent descriptions: in terms of the ambient space and in terms of an appropriate vector bundle, as an explicitly local first-order BRST formalism. The second version is a parent-like formulation that can be used to generate various other formulations via equivalent reductions. In particular, we demonstrate a relation to the unfolded description of massless and partially massless fields.

Unified BRST description of AdS gauge fields

A concise formulation for mixed-symmetry gauge fields on AdS space is proposed. It is explicitly local, gauge invariant, and has manifest AdS symmetry. Various other known formulations (including the original formulation of Metsaev and the unfolded formulation) can be derived through the appropriate reductions and gauge fixing. As a byproduct, we also identify some new useful formulations of the theory that can be interesting for further developments. The formulation is presented in the BRST terms and extensively uses Howe duality. In particular, the BRST operator is a sum of the term associated to the spacetime isometry algebra and the term associated to the Howe dual symplectic algebra.

Massless Poincare modules and gauge invariant equations

Starting with an indecomposable Poincare module M_0 induced from a given irreducible Lorentz module we construct a free Poincare invariant gauge theory defined on the Minkowski space. The space of its gauge inequivalent solutions coincides with (in general, is closely related to) the starting point module M_0. We show that for a class of indecomposable Poincare modules the resulting theory is a Lagrangian gauge theory of the mixed-symmetry higher spin fields. The procedure is based on constructing the parent formulation of the theory. The Labastida formulation and the unfolded description of the mixed symmetry fields are reproduced through the appropriate reductions of the parent formulation. As an independent check we show that in the momentum representation the solutions form a unitary irreducible Poincare module determined by the respective module of the Wigner little group.

On the Frame-Like Formulation of Mixed-Symmetry Massless Fields in (A)dS(d)

The frame-like covariant Lagrangian formulation of bosonic and fermionic mixed-symmetry type higher spin massless fields propagating on the AdS(d) background is proposed. Higher spin fields are described in terms of gauge p-forms which carry tangent indices representing certain traceless tensor or gamma transversal spinor-tensor representations of the AdS(d) algebra o(d-1,2) (or o(d,1) for bosonic fields in dS(d)). Manifestly gauge invariant Abelian higher spin field strengths are introduced for the general case. We describe the general framework and demonstrate how it works for the mixed-symmetry type fields associated with the three-cell "hook" and arbitrary two-row rectangular tableaux. The manifestly gauge invariant actions for these fields are presented in a simple form. The flat limit is also analyzed.
