On the topology of some hyperspaces of convex bodies associated to tensor norms

For every tuple $d_1,\dots, d_l\geq 2,$ let $\mathbb{R}^{d_1}\otimes\cdots\otimes\mathbb{R}^{d_l}$ denote the tensor product of $\mathbb{R}^{d_i},$ $i=1,\dots,l.$ Let us denote by $\mathcal{B}(d)$ the hyperspace of centrally symmetric convex bodies in $\mathbb{R}^d,$ $d=d_1\cdots d_l,$ endowed with the Hausdorff distance, and by $\mathcal{B}_\otimes(d_1,\dots,d_l)$ the subset of $\mathcal{B}(d)$ consisting of the convex bodies that are closed unit balls of reasonable crossnorms on $\mathbb{R}^{d_1}\otimes\cdots\otimes\mathbb{R}^{d_l}.$ It is known that $\mathcal{B}_\otimes(d_1,\dots,d_l)$ is a closed, contractible and locally compact subset of $\mathcal{B}(d).$ The hyperspace $\mathcal{B}_\otimes(d_1,\dots,d_l)$ is called the space of tensorial bodies. In this work we determine the homeomorphism type of $\mathcal{B}_\otimes(d_1,\dots,d_l).$ We show that even if $\mathcal{B}_\otimes(d_1,\dots,d_l)$ is not closed with respect to the Minkowski sum, it is an absolute retract homeomorphic to $\mathcal{Q}\times\mathbb{R}^p,$ where $\mathcal{Q}$ is the Hilbert cube and $p=\frac{d_1(d_1+1)+\cdots+d_l(d_l+1)}{2}.$ Among other results, the relation between the Banach-Mazur compactum and the Banach-Mazur type compactum associated to $\mathcal{B}_\otimes(d_1,\dots,d_l)$ is examined.

A General Theory of Tensor Products of Convex Sets in Euclidean Spaces

We introduce both the notions of tensor product of convex bodies that contain zero in the interior, and of tensor product of $0$-symmetric convex bodies in Euclidean spaces. We prove that there is a bijection between tensor products of $0$-symmetric convex bodies and tensor norms on finite dimensional spaces. This bijection preserves duality, injectivity and projectivity. We obtain a formulation of Grothendieck`s Theorem for $0$-symmetric convex bodies and use it to give a geometric representation (up to the $K_G$-constant) of the Hilbertian tensor product. We see that the property of having enough symmetries is preserved by these tensor products, and exhibit relations with the Löwner and the John ellipsoids.

A hyperspace of convex bodies arising from tensor norms

In a preceding work it is determined when a centrally symmetric convex body in $\mathbb{R}^d,$ $d=d_1\cdots d_l,$ is the closed unit ball of a reasonable crossnorm on $\mathbb{R}^{d_1}\otimes\cdots\otimes\mathbb{R}^{d_l}.$ Consequently, the class of tensorial bodies is introduced, an associated tensorial Banach-Mazur distance is defined and the corresponding Banach-Mazur type compactum is proved to exist. In this paper, we introduce the hyperspace of these convex bodies. We called "the space of tensorial bodies". It is proved that the group of linear isomorphisms on $\mathbb{R}^{d_1}\otimes\cdots\otimes\mathbb{R}^{d_l}$ preserving decomposable vectors acts properly (in the sense of Palais) on it. A convenient compact global slice for the space is constructed. With it, topological representatives for the space of tensorial bodies and the Banach-Mazur type compactum are given. Among others, it is showed that the set of ellipsoids in the class of tensorial bodies is homeomorphic to the Euclidean space of dimension $p=\frac{d_1(d_1+1)}{2}+\cdots+\frac{d_l(d_l+1)}{2}.$ We also prove that both the projective and the injective tensor products of $0$-symmetric convex bodies are continuous functions with respect to the Hausdorff distance.
