Isoperimetric inequalities for the magnetic Neumann and Steklov problems with Aharonov-Bohm magnetic potential

We discuss isoperimetric inequalities for the magnetic Laplacian on bounded domains of $\mathbb R^2$ endowed with an Aharonov-Bohm potential. When the flux of the potential around the pole is not an integer, the lowest eigenvalue for the Neumann and the Steklov problems is positive. We establish isoperimetric inequalitites for the lowest eigenvalue in the spirit of the classical inequalities of Szegö-Weinberger, Brock and Weinstock, the model domain being a disk with the pole at its center. We consider more generally domains in the plane endowed with a rotationally invariant metric, which include the spherical and the hyperbolic case.

The first Grushin eigenvalue on cartesian product domains

In this paper we consider the first eigenvalue $λ_1(Ω)$ of the Grushin operator $Δ_G:=Δ_{x_1}+|x_1|^{2s}Δ_{x_2}$ with Dirichlet boundary conditions on a bounded domain $Ω$ of $\mathbb{R}^d= \mathbb{R}^{d_1+d_2}$. We prove that $λ_1(Ω)$ admits a unique minimizer in the class of domains with prescribed finite volume which are the cartesian product of a set in $\mathbb{R}^{d_1}$ and a set in $\mathbb{R}^{d_2}$, and that the minimizer is the product of two balls $Ω^*_1 \subseteq \mathbb{R}^{d_1}$ and $Ω_2^* \subseteq \mathbb{R}^{d_2}$. Moreover, we provide a lower bound for $|Ω^*_1|$ and for $λ_1(Ω_1^*\timesΩ_2^*)$. Finally, we consider the limiting problem as $s$ tends to $0$ and to $+\infty$.

A note on the Neumann eigenvalues of the biharmonic operator

We study the dependence of the eigenvalues of the biharmonic operator subject to Neumann boundary conditions on the Poisson's ratio. In particular, we prove that the Neumann eigenvalues are Lipschitz continuous with respect to $σ\in [0,1[$ and that all the Neumann eigenvalues tend to zero as $σ\rightarrow 1^-$. Moreover, we show that the Neumann problem defined by setting $σ=1$ admits a sequence of positive eigenvalues of finite multiplicity which are not limiting points for the Neumann eigenvalues with $σ\in[0,1[$ as $σ\rightarrow 1^-$, and which coincide with the Dirichlet eigenvalues of the biharmonic operator.

Neumann to Steklov eigenvalues: asymptotic and monotonicity results

We consider the Steklov eigenvalues of the Laplace operator as limiting Neumann eigenvalues in a problem of mass concentration at the boundary of a ball. We discuss the asymptotic behavior of the Neumann eigenvalues and find explicit formulas for their derivatives at the limiting problem. We deduce that the Neumann eigenvalues have a monotone behavior in the limit and that Steklov eigenvalues locally minimize the Neumann eigenvalues.

On the stability of some isoperimetric inequalities for the fundamental tones of free plates

We provide a quantitative version of the isoperimetric inequality for the fundamental tone of a biharmonic Neumann problem. Such an inequality has been recently established by Chasman adapting Weinberger's argument for the corresponding second order problem. Following a scheme introduced by Brasco and Pratelli for the second order case, we prove that a similar quantitative inequality holds also for the biharmonic operator. We also prove the sharpness of both such an inequality and the corresponding one for the biharmonic Steklov problem.

Weyl-type bounds for Steklov eigenvalues

We present upper and lower bounds for Steklov eigenvalues for domains in $\mathbb{R}^{N+1}$ with $C^2$ boundary compatible with the Weyl asymptotics. In particular, we obtain sharp upper bounds on Riesz-means and the trace of corresponding Steklov heat kernel. The key result is a comparison of Steklov eigenvalues and Laplacian eigenvalues on the boundary of the domain by applying Pohozaev-type identities on an appropriate tubular neigborhood of the boundary and the min-max principle. Asymptotically sharp bounds then follow from bounds for Riesz-means of Laplacian eigenvalues.

A few shape optimization results for a biharmonic Steklov problem

We derive the equation of a free vibrating thin plate whose mass is concentrated at the boundary, namely a Steklov problem for the biharmonic operator. We provide Hadamard-type formulas for the shape derivatives of the corresponding eigenvalues and prove that balls are critical domains under volume constraint. Finally, we prove an isoperimetric inequality for the first positive eigenvalue.

On the eigenvalues of a biharmonic Steklov problem

We consider an eigenvalue problem for the biharmonic operator with Steklov-type boundary conditions. We obtain it as a limiting Neumann problem for the biharmonic operator in a process of mass concentration at the boundary. We study the dependence of the spectrum upon the domain. We show analyticity of the symmetric functions of the eigenvalues under isovolumetric perturbations and prove that balls are critical points for such functions under measure constraint. Moreover, we show that the ball is a maximizer for the first positive eigenvalue among those domains with a prescribed fixed measure.

Strong existence and uniqueness of the stationary distribution for a stochastic inviscid dyadic model

We consider an inviscid stochastically forced dyadic model, where the additive noise acts only on the first component. We prove that a strong solution for this problem exists and is unique by means of uniform energy estimates. Moreover, we exploit these results to establish strong existence and uniqueness of the stationary distribution.

A maximum principle in spectral optimization problems for elliptic operators subject to mass density perturbations

We consider eigenvalue problems for general elliptic operators of arbitrary order subject to homogeneous boundary conditions on open subsets of the euclidean N-dimensional space. We prove stability results for the dependence of the eigenvalues upon variation of the mass density and we prove a maximum principle for extremum problems related to mass density perturbations which preserve the total mass.

Viewing the Steklov eigenvalues of the Laplace operator as critical Neumann eigenvalues

We consider the Steklov eigenvalues of the Laplace operator as limiting Neumann eigenvalues in a problem of boundary mass concentration. We discuss the asymptotic behavior of the Neumann eigenvalues in a ball and we deduce that the Steklov eigenvalues minimize the Neumann eigenvalues. Moreover, we study the dependence of the eigenvalues of the Steklov problem upon perturbation of the mass density and show that the Steklov eigenvalues violates a maximum principle in spectral optimization problems.
