Interpolation for analytic families of multilinear operators on metric measure spaces

Let (X j , d j , $μ$ j), j = 0, 1,. .. , m be metric measure spaces. Given 0 < p $κ$ $\le$ $\infty$ for $κ$ = 1,. .. , m and an analytic family of multilinear operators T z : L p 1 (X 1) x $\bullet$ $\bullet$ $\bullet$ L p m (X m) $\rightarrow$ L 1 loc (X 0), for z in the complex unit strip, we prove a theorem in the spirit of Stein's complex interpolation for analytic families. Analyticity and our admissibility condition are defined in the weak (integral) sense and relax the pointwise definitions given in [9]. Continuous functions with compact support are natural dense subspaces of Lebesgue spaces over metric measure spaces and we assume the operators T z are initially defined on them. Our main lemma concerns the approximation of continuous functions with compact support by similar functions that depend analytically in an auxiliary parameter z. An application of the main theorem concerning bilinear estimates for Schr{ö}dinger operators on L p is included.

Multilinear rough singular integral operators

We study $m$-linear homogeneous rough singular integral operators $\mathcal{L}_Ω$ associated with integrable functions $Ω$ on $\mathbb{S}^{mn-1}$ with mean value zero. We prove boundedness for $\mathcal{L}_Ω$ from $L^{p_1}\times \cdots \times L^{p_m}$ to $L^p$ when $1<p_1,\dots, p_m<\infty$ and $1/p=1/p_1+\cdots +1/p_m$ in the largest possible open set of exponents when $Ω\in L^q(\mathbb S^{mn-1})$ and $q\ge 2$. This set can be described by a convex polyhedron in $\mathbb R^m$.

On pointwise a.e. convergence of multilinear operators

In this work we obtain the pointwise almost everywhere convergence for two families of multilinear operators: (a) truncated homogeneous singular integral operators associated with $L^q$ functions on the sphere and (b) lacunary multiplier operators of limited decay. The a.e. convergence is deduced from the $L^2\times\cdots\times L^2\to L^{2/m}$ boundedness of the associated maximal multilinear operators.

Riesz transform associated with the fractional Fourier transform and applications in image edge detection

The fractional Hilbert transform was introduced by Zayed [30, Zayed, 1998] and has been widely used in signal processing. In view of is connection with the fractional Fourier transform, Chen, the first, second and fourth authors of this paper in [6, Chen et al., 2021] studied the fractional Hilbert transform and other fractional multiplier operators on the real line. The present paper is concerned with a natural extension of the fractional Hilbert transform to higher dimensions: this extension is the fractional Riesz transform which is defined by multiplication which a suitable chirp function on the fractional Fourier transform side. In addition to a thorough study of the fractional Riesz transforms, in this work we also investigate the boundedness of singular integral operators with chirp functions on rotation invariant spaces, chirp Hardy spaces and their relation to chirp BMO spaces, as well as applications of the theory of fractional multipliers in partial differential equations. Through numerical simulation, we provide physical and geometric interpretations of high-dimensional fractional multipliers. Finally, we present an application of the fractional Riesz transforms in edge detection which verifies a hypothesis insinuated in [26, Xu et al., 2016]. In fact our numerical implementation confirms that amplitude, phase, and direction information can be simultaneously extracted by controlling the order of the fractional Riesz transform.

A sharp variant of the Marcinkiewicz theorem with multipliers in Sobolev spaces of Lorentz type

Given a bounded measurable function $σ$ on $\mathbb{R}^n$, we let $T_σ$ be the operator obtained by multiplication on the Fourier transform by $σ$. Let $0<s_1\le s_2\le \cdots \le s_n<1$ and $ψ$ be a Schwartz function on the real line whose Fourier transform $\widehatψ$ is supported in $[-2,-1/2]\cup[1/2,2]$ and which satisfies $\sum_{j \in \mathbb{Z}} \widehatψ\left(2^{-j} ξ\right)=1$ for all $ξ\neq 0$. In this work we sharpen the known forms of the Marcinkiewicz multiplier theorem by finding an almost optimal function space with the property that, if the function \begin{equation*} (ξ_1,\dots, ξ_n)\mapsto \prod_{i=1}^n (I-\partial_i^2)^{\frac {s_i}2} \Big[ \prod_{i=1}^n \widehatψ(ξ_i) σ(2^{j_1}ξ_1,\dots , 2^{j_n}ξ_n)\Big] \end{equation*} belongs to it uniformly in $j_1,\dots , j_n \in \mathbb Z$, then $T_σ$ is bounded on $ {L}^p(\mathbb R^n)$ when $ |\frac{1}{p}-\frac{1}{2} | < s_1$ and $1<p<\infty$. In the case where $s_i\neq s_{i+1}$ for all $i$, it was proved in [Grafakos, Israel J. Math., to appear] that the Lorentz space $L ^{\frac{1}{s_1},1} (\mathbb{R}^n) $ is the function space sought. In this work we address the significantly more difficult general case when for certain indices $i$ we might have $s_i=s_{i+1}$. We obtain a version of the Marcinkiewicz multiplier theorem in which the space $L ^{\frac{1}{s_1},1}$ is replaced by an appropriate Lorentz space associated with a certain concave function related to the number of terms among $s_2,\dots , s_n$ that equal $s_1$. Our result is optimal up to an arbitrarily small power of the logarithm in the defining concave function of the Lorentz space.

Fractional Fourier transforms on $L^p$ and applications

This paper is devoted to the $L^p(\mathbb R)$ theory of the fractional Fourier transform (FRFT) for $1\le p < 2$. In view of the special structure of the FRFT, we study FRFT properties of $L^1$ functions, via the introduction of a suitable chirp operator. However, in the $L^1(\mathbb{R})$ setting, problems of convergence arise even when basic manipulations of functions are performed. We overcome such issues and study the FRFT inversion problem via approximation by suitable means, such as the fractional Gauss and Abel means. We also obtain the regularity of fractional convolution and results on pointwise convergence of FRFT means. Finally we discuss $L^p$ multiplier results and a Littlewood-Paley theorem associated with FRFT.

Sparse domination and weighted estimates for rough bilinear singular integrals

Let $r>\frac{4}{3}$ and let $Ω\in L^{r}(\mathbb{S}^{2n-1})$ have vanishing integral. We show that the bilinear rough singular integral $$T_Ω(f,g)(x)= \textrm{p.v.} \int_{\mathbb{R}^n}\int_{\mathbb{R}^n}\frac{Ω((y,z)/|(y,z)|)}{|(y,z)|^{2n}}f(x-y)g(x-z)\,dydz,$$ satisfies a sparse bound by $(p,p,p)$-averages, where $p$ is bigger than a certain number explicitly related to $r$ and $n$. As a consequence we deduce certain quantitative weighted estimates for bilinear homogeneous singular integrals associated with rough homogeneous kernels.

The multilinear Hormander multiplier theorem with a Lorentz-Sobolev condition

In this article, we provide a multilinear version of the Hörmander multiplier theorem with a Lorentz-Sobolev space condition. The work is motivated by the recent result of the first author and Slavíková where an analogous version of classical Hörmander multiplier theorem was obtained; this version is sharp in many ways and reduces the number of indices that appear in the statement of the theorem. As a natural extension of the linear case, in this work, we prove that if $mn/2<s<mn$, then $$ \big\Vert T_σ(f_1,\dots,f_m)\big\Vert_{L^p((\mathbb{R})^n)}\lesssim \sup_{k\in\mathbb{Z}}\big\Vert σ(2^k\;\vec{\cdot}\;)\widehat{Ψ^{(m)}}\big\Vert_{L_{s}^{mn/s,1}(\mathbb{R}^{mn})}\Vert f_1\Vert_{L^{p_1}((\mathbb{R})^n)}\cdots \Vert f_m\Vert_{L^{p_m}((\mathbb{R})^n)} $$ for certain $p,p_1,\dots,p_m$ with $1/p=1/p_1+\dots+1/p_m$. We also show that the above estimate is sharp, in the sense that the Lorentz-Sobolev space $L_s^{mn/s,1}$ cannot be replaced by $L_{s}^{r,q}$ for $r<mn/s$, $0<q\leq \infty$, or by $L_s^{mn/s,q}$ for $q>1$.

The Hörmander multiplier theorem I: The Linear Case

We discuss $L^p(\mathbb R^n)$ boundedness for Fourier multiplier operators that satisfy the hypotheses of the Hörmander multiplier theorem in terms of an optimal condition that relates the distance $|\frac 1p-\frac12|$ to the smoothness $s$ of the associated multiplier measured in some Sobolev norm. We provide new counterexamples to justify the optimality of the condition $|\frac 1p-\frac12|<\frac sn$ and we discuss the endpoint case $|\frac 1p-\frac12|=\frac sn$.

The Hörmander multiplier theorem, II: The bilinear local $L^2$ case

We use wavelets of tensor product type to obtain the boundedness of bilinear multiplier operators on $\mathbb R^n\times \mathbb R^n$ associated with Hörmander multipliers on $\mathbb R^{2n}$ with minimal smoothness. We focus on the local $L^2$ case and we obtain boundedness under the minimal smoothness assumption of $n/2$ derivatives. We also provide counterexamples to obtain necessary conditions for all sets of indices.

Certain Multi(sub)linear square functions

Let $d\ge 1, \ell\in\Z^d$, $m\in \mathbb Z^+$ and $θ_i$, $i=1,\dots,m $ are fixed, distinct and nonzero real numbers. We show that the $m$-(sub)linear version below of the Ratnakumar and Shrivastava \cite{RS1} Littlewood-Paley square function $$T(f_1,\dots , f_m)(x)=\Big(\sum\limits_{\ell\in\Z^d}|\int_{\mathbb{R}^d}f_1(x-θ_1 y)\cdots f_m(x-θ_m y)e^{2πi \ell \cdot y}K (y)dy|^2\Big)^{1/2} $$ is bounded from $L^{p_1}(\mathbb{R}^d) \times\cdots\times L^{p_m}(\mathbb{R}^d) $ to $L^p(\mathbb{R}^d) $ when $2\le p_i<\infty$ satisfy $1/p=1/p_1+\cdots+1/p_m$ and $1\le p<\infty$. Our proof is based on a modification of an inequality of Guliyev and Nazirova \cite{GN} concerning multilinear convolutions.

Multilinear Fourier Multipliers with Minimal Sobolev Regularity, I

We find optimal conditions on $m$-linear Fourier multipliers to give rise to bounded operators from a product of Hardy spaces $H^{p_j}$, $0<p_j\le 1$, to Lebesgue spaces $L^p$. The conditions we obtain are necessary and sufficient for boundedness and are expressed in terms of $L^2$-based Sobolev spaces. Our results extend those obtained in the linear case ($m=1 $) by Calderón and Torchinsky [http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0001870877800169] and in the bilinear case ($m=2$) by Miyachi and Tomita [http://www.ems-ph.org/journals/show_abstract.php?issn=0213-2230&vol=29&iss=2&rank=4]. We also prove a coordinate-type Hörmander integral condition which we use to obtain certain extreme cases.

Multilinear Fourier Multipliers with Minimal Sobolev Regularity, II

We provide characterizations for boundedness of multilinear Fourier operators on Hardy-Lebesgue spaces with symbols locally in Sobolev spaces. Let $H^q(\mathbb R^n)$ denote the Hardy space when $0<q\le 1$ and the Lebesgue space $L^q(\mathbb R^n)$ when $1<q\le \infty$. We find optimal conditions on $m$-linear Fourier multiplier operators to be bounded from $H^{p_1}\times \cdots \times H^{p_m}$ to $L^p$ when $1/p=1/p_1+\cdots +1/p_m$ in terms of local $L^2$-Sobolev space estimates for the symbol of the operator. Our conditions provide multilinear analogues of the linear results of Calderón and Torchinsky [http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0001870877800169] and of the bilinear results of Miyachi and Tomita [http://www.ems-ph.org/journals/show_abstract.php?issn=0213-2230&vol=29&iss=2&rank=4]. The extension to general $m$ is significantly more complicated both technically and combinatorially, the optimal Sobolev space smoothness required of the symbol depends on the Hardy-Lebesgue exponents and is constant on various convex simplices formed by configurations of $m2^{m-1} +1$ points in $[0,\infty)^m$.

Rough Bilinear Singular Integrals

We study the rough bilinear singular integral, introduced by Coifman and Meyer , $$ T_Ω(f,g)(x)=p.v. \! \int_{\mathbb R^{n}}\! \int_{\mathbb R^{n}}\! |(y,z)|^{-2n} Ω((y,z)/|(y,z)|)f(x-y)g(x-z) dydz, $$ when $Ω$ is a function in $L^q(\mathbb S^{2n-1})$ with vanishing integral and $2\le q\le \infty$. When $q=\infty$ we obtain boundedness for $T_Ω$ from $L^{p_1}(\mathbb R^n)\times L^{p_2}(\mathbb R^n)$ to $ L^p(\mathbb R^n) $ when $1<p_1, p_2<\infty$ and $1/p=1/p_1+1/p_2$. For $q=2$ we obtain that $T_Ω$ is bounded from $L^{2}(\mathbb R^n)\times L^{ 2}(\mathbb R^n)$ to $ L^1(\mathbb R^n) $. For $q$ between $2$ and infinity we obtain the analogous boundedness on a set of indices around the point $(1/2,1/2,1)$. To obtain our results we introduce a new bilinear technique based on tensor-type wavelet decompositions.

Multilinear generalized Radon transforms and point configurations

We study multilinear generalized Radon transforms using a graph-theoretic paradigm that includes the widely studied linear case. These provide a general mechanism to study Falconer-type problems involving $(k+1)$-point configurations in geometric measure theory, with $k \ge 2$, including the distribution of simplices, volumes and angles determined by the points of fractal subsets $E \subset {\Bbb R}^d$, $d \ge 2$. If $T_k(E)$ denotes the set of noncongruent $(k+1)$-point configurations determined by $E$, we show that if the Hausdorff dimension of $E$ is greater than $d-\frac{d-1}{2k}$, then the ${k+1 \choose 2}$-dimensional Lebesgue measure of $T_k(E)$ is positive. This compliments previous work on the Falconer conjecture (\cite{Erd05} and the references there), as well as work on finite point configurations \cite{EHI11,GI10}. We also give applications to Erdös-type problems in discrete geometry and a fractal regular value theorem, providing a multilinear framework for the results in \cite{EIT11}.

On Fourier transforms of radial functions and distributions

We find a formula that relates the Fourier transform of a radial function on $\mathbf{R}^n$ with the Fourier transform of the same function defined on $\mathbf{R}^{n+2}$. This formula enables one to explicitly calculate the Fourier transform of any radial function $f(r)$ in any dimension, provided one knows the Fourier transform of the one-dimensional function $t\to f(|t|)$ and the two-dimensional function $(x_1,x_2)\to f(|(x_1,x_2)|)$. We prove analogous results for radial tempered distributions.

The Kato-Ponce Inequality

In this article we develop a simplistic approach to revisit the classical Kato-Ponce inequality, which is also known as 'fractional Leibniz rule.' As a consequence, we derive the validity of this inequality even in quasi-Banach spaces $L^p$ for $p<1$ with a certain restrictions on the indices. Also, we display the sharpness of this restriction by means of a counter-example. Finally, we also prove a multi-parameter variant of the inequality, which allows for partial fractional derivatives on $R^n$.

The multilinear strong maximal function

A multivariable version of the strong maximal function is introduced and a sharp distributional estimate for this operator in the spirit of the Jessen, Marcinkiewicz, and Zygmund theorem is obtained. Conditions that characterize the boundedness of this multivariable operator on products of weighted Lebesgue spaces equipped with multiple weights are obtained. Results for other multi(sub)linear maximal functions associated with bases of open sets are studied too. Certain bilinear interpolation results between distributional estimates, such as that obtained for the multivariable strong maximal function, are also proved.
