On smoothing estimates for Schrödinger equations on product spaces $\mathbb{T}^m\times \mathbb{R}^n$

Let $Δ_{\mathbb{T}^m\times \mathbb{R}^n}$ denote the Laplace-Beltrami operator on the product spaces $\mathbb{T}^m\times \mathbb{R}^n$. In this article we show that $$ \left\|e^{itΔ_{\mathbb{T}^m\times \mathbb{R}^n}}f\right\|_{L^p(\mathbb{T}^m\times \mathbb{R}^n\times [0,1])} \leq C \|f\|_{W^{α,p}(\mathbb{T}^m\times\mathbb{R}^n)} $$ holds if $p\geq 2(m+n+2)/(m+n)$ and $α> (m+2n)(1/2-1/p)-2/p$. Furthermore, we apply the $\ell^2$-decoupling inequalities to establish local $L^p$-smoothing estimates for the Schrödinger operator $e^{itΔ_{\mathbb{T}^m\times\mathbb{R}^n}}$ in modulation spaces $M_{p,q}^α(\mathbb{T}^m\times\mathbb{R}^n)$: $$ \|e^{itΔ_{\mathbb{T}^m\times\mathbb{R}^n}}f\|_{L^p(\mathbb{T}^m\times\mathbb{R}^n\times [0,1])}\leq C \|f\|_{M_{p,q}^α(\mathbb{T}^m\times\mathbb{R}^n)} $$ for some range of $α$ and $p, q$. The smoothing estimates in $L^p$-Sobolev and modulation spaces are sharp up to the endpoint regularity, in a certain range of $p$ and $q$.

Singular spherical maximal operators on a class of degenerate two-step nilpotent Lie groups

Let $G\cong\mathbb{R}^{d} \ltimes \mathbb{R}$ be a finite-dimensional two-step nilpotent group with the group multiplication $(x,u)\cdot(y,v)\rightarrow(x+y,u+v+x^{T}Jy)$ where $J$ is a skew-symmetric matrix satisfying a degeneracy condition with $2\leq {\rm rank}\, J <d$. Consider the maximal function defined by $$ {\frak M}f(x, u)=\sup_{t>0}\big|\int_Σ f(x-ty, u- t x^{T}Jy) dμ(y)\big|, $$ where $Σ$ is a smooth convex hypersurface and $dμ$ is a compactly supported smooth density on $Σ$ such that the Gaussian curvature of $Σ$ is nonvanishing on supp $dμ$. In this paper we prove that when $d\geq 4$, the maximal operator ${\frak M}$ is bounded on $L^{p}(G)$ for the range $(d-1)/(d-2)<p\leq\infty$.

The Schrödinger equation in $L^p$ spaces for operators with heat kernel satisfying Poisson type bounds

Let $L$ be a non-negative self-adjoint operator acting on $L^2(X)$ where $X$ is a space of homogeneous type with a dimension $n$. In this paper, we study sharp endpoint $L^p$-Sobolev estimates for the solution of the initial value problem for the Schrödinger equation, $i \partial_t u + L u=0 $ and show that for all $f\in L^p(X), 1<p<\infty,$ \begin{eqnarray*} \left\| e^{itL} (I+L)^{-{σn}} f\right\|_{p} \leq C(1+|t|)^{σn} \|f\|_{p}, \ \ \ t\in{\mathbb R}, \ \ \ σ\geq \big|{1\over 2}-{1\over p}\big|, \end{eqnarray*} where the semigroup $e^{-tL}$ generated by $L$ satisfies a Poisson type upper bound. This extends the previous result in \cite{CDLY1} in which the semigroup $e^{-tL}$ generated by $L$ satisfies the exponential decay.

Towards a compact all optical terahertz-driven electron source at Tsinghua University

We propose a physical design of a compact all optical terahertz (THz)-driven electron source. The 300 mm accelerator beamline, powered by Joule level laser system, is easily to be integrated to tabletop scale. A dual-feed THz-driven electron gun with an exponential impedance, a tapered dielectric loaded cylindrical waveguide, THz-driven bunch compressors and permanent magnet solenoids (PMS) have been designed and optimized. Dynamics simulations show that the electron source can deliver a 19 fC, 3 MeV electron beams with a normalized transverse emittance of 0.079 π.mm.mrad. A minimum relative energy spread of 0.04% or a minimum root-mean-square bunch length of 6.1 fs can be achieved by adjusting the beam shaping line. Sensitivity analysis shows that the THz-driven electron source can effectively work under a 1.5% energy jitter of the THz power system. Simulated diffraction pattern up to the fourth order of an aluminum sample based on the beamline can be clearly distinguished. A prototype THz gun has beam fabricated and is now under testing, more results will be reported in future works.

A Boundedness Criterion for Singular Integral Operators of convolution type on the Fock Space

We show that for an entire function $φ$ belonging to the Fock space ${\mathscr F}^2(\mathbb{C}^n)$ on the complex Euclidean space $\mathbb{C}^n$, the integral operator \begin{eqnarray*} S_φF(z)=\int_{\mathbb{C}^n} F(w) e^{z \cdot\bar{w}} φ(z- \bar{w})\,dλ(w), \ \ \ \ \ z\in \mathbb{C}^n, \end{eqnarray*} is bounded on ${\mathscr F}^2(\mathbb{C}^n)$ if and only if there exists a function $m\in L^{\infty}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ such that $$ φ(z)=\int_{\mathbb{R}^n} m(x)e^{-2\left(x-\frac{i}{2} z \right)\cdot \left(x-\frac{i}{2} z \right)} dx, \ \ \ \ \ \ z\in \mathbb{C}^n. $$ Here $dλ(w)= π^{-n}e^{-\left\vert w\right\vert^2}dw$ is the Gaussian measure on $\mathbb C^n$. With this characterization we are able to obtain some fundamental results including the normaility, the algebraic property, spectrum and compactness of this operator $S_φ$. Moreover, we obtain the reducing subspaces of $S_φ$. In particular, in the case $n=1$, we give a complete solution to an open problem proposed by K. Zhu for the Fock space ${\mathscr F}^2(\mathbb{C})$ on the complex plane ${\mathbb C}$ (Integr. Equ. Oper. Theory {\bf 81} (2015), 451--454).

Almost everywhere convergence of Bochner-Riesz means for the Hermite operators

Let $H = -Δ+ |x|^2$ be the Hermite operator in ${\mathbb R}^n$. In this paper we study almost everywhere convergence of the Bochner-Riesz means associated with $H$ which is defined by $S_R^λ(H)f(x) = \sum\limits_{k=0}^{\infty} \big(1-{2k+n\over R^2}\big)_+^λ P_k f(x).$ Here $P_k f$ is the $k$-th Hermite spectral projection operator. For $2\le p<\infty$, we prove that $$ \lim\limits_{R\to \infty} S_R^λ(H) f=f \ \ \ \text{a.e.} $$ for all $f\in L^p(\mathbb R^n)$ provided that $λ> λ(p)/2$ and $λ(p)=\max\big\{ n\big({1/2}-{1/p}\big)-{1/ 2}, \, 0\big\}.$ Conversely, we also show the convergence generally fails if $λ< λ(p)/2$ in the sense that there is an $f\in L^p(\mathbb R^n)$ for $2n/(n-1)\le p$ such that the convergence fails. This is in surprising contrast with a.e. convergence of the classical Bochner-Riesz means for the Laplacian. For $n\geq 2$ and $p\ge 2$ our result tells that the critical summability index for a.e. convergence for $S_R^λ(H)$ is as small as only the \emph{half} of the critical index for a.e. convergence of the classical Bochner-Riesz means. When $n = 1$, we show a.e. convergence holds for $f\in L^p({\mathbb R})$ with $ p\geq 2$ whenever $λ>0$. Compared with the classical result due to Askey and Wainger who showed the optimal $L^p$ convergence for $S_R^λ(H)$ on ${\mathbb R}$ we only need smaller summability index for a.e. convergence.

Sharp endpoint $L^p$ estimates for Schrödinger groups

Let $L$ be a non-negative self-adjoint operator acting on $L^2(X)$ where $X$ is a space of homogeneous type with a dimension $n$. Suppose that the heat operator $e^{-tL}$ satisfies the generalized Gaussian $(p_0, p'_0)$-estimates of order $m$ for some $1\leq p_0 < 2$. In this paper we prove {\it sharp} endpoint $L^p$-Sobolev bound for the Schrödinger group $e^{itL}$, that is for every $p\in (p_0, p'_0)$ there exists a constant $C=C(n,p)>0$ independent of $t$ such that \begin{eqnarray*} \left\| (I+L)^{-{s}}e^{itL} f\right\|_{p} \leq C(1+|t|)^{s}\|f\|_{p}, \ \ \ t\in{\mathbb R}, \ \ \ s\geq n\big|{1\over 2}-{1\over p}\big|. \end{eqnarray*} As a consequence, the above estimate holds for all $1<p<\infty$ when the heat kernel of $L$ satisfies a Gaussian upper bound. This extends classical results due to Feffermann and Stein, and Miyachi for the Laplacian on the Euclidean spaces ${\mathbb R}^n$. We also give an application to obtain an endpoint estimate for $L^p$-boundedness of the Riesz means of the solutions of the Schrödinger equations.

Exponential-square integrability, weighted inequalities for the square functions associated to operators and applications

Let $X$ be a metric space with a doubling measure. Let $L$ be a nonnegative self-adjoint operator acting on $L^2(X)$, hence $L$ generates an analytic semigroup $e^{-tL}$. Assume that the kernels $p_t(x,y)$ of $e^{-tL}$ satisfy Gaussian upper bounds and Hölder's continuity in $x$ but we do not require the semigroup to satisfy the preservation condition $e^{-tL}1 = 1$. In this article we aim to establish the exponential-square integrability of a function whose square function associated to an operator $L$ is bounded, and the proof is new even for the Laplace operator on the Euclidean spaces ${\mathbb R^n}$. We then apply this result to obtain: (i) estimates of the norm on $L^p$ as $p$ becomes large for operators such as the square functions or spectral multipliers; (ii) weighted norm inequalities for the square functions; and (iii) eigenvalue estimates for Schrödinger operators on ${\mathbb R}^n$ or Lipschitz domains of ${\mathbb R}^n$.

Maximal function characterizations for Hardy spaces associated to nonnegative self-adjoint operators on spaces of homogeneous type

Let $X$ be a metric measure space with a doubling measure and $L$ be a nonnegative self-adjoint operator acting on $L^2(X)$. Assume that $L$ generates an analytic semigroup $e^{-tL}$ whose kernels $p_t(x,y)$ satisfy Gaussian upper bounds but without any assumptions on the regularity of space variables $x$ and $y$. In this article we continue a study in \cite{SY} to give an atomic decomposition for the Hardy spaces $ H^p_{L,max}(X)$ in terms of the nontangential maximal function associated with the heat semigroup of $L$, and hence we establish characterizations of Hardy spaces associated to an operator $L$, via an atomic decomposition or the nontangential maximal function. We also obtain an equivalence of $ H^p_{L, max}(X)$ in terms of the radial maximal function.

Spectral multipliers via resolvent type estimates on non-homogeneous metric measure spaces

We describe a simple but surprisingly effective technique of obtaining spectral multiplier results for abstract operators which satisfy the finite propagation speed property for the corresponding wave equation propagator. We show that, in this setting, spectral multipliers follow from resolvent type estimates. The most notable point of the paper is that our approach is very flexible and can be applied even if the corresponding ambient space does not satisfy the doubling condition or if the semigroup generated by an operator is not uniformly bounded. As a corollary we obtain the $L^p$ spectrum independence for several second order differential operators and recover some known results. Our examples include the Laplace-Belltrami operator on manifolds with ends and Schrödinger operators with strongly subcritical potentials.

A maximal function characterization for Hardy spaces associated to nonnegative self-adjoint operators satisfying Gaussian estimates

Let $L$ be a nonnegative, self-adjoint operator satisfying Gaussian estimates on $L^2(\RR^n)$. In this article we give an atomic decomposition for the Hardy spaces $ H^p_{L,max}(\R)$ in terms of the nontangential maximal functions associated with the heat semigroup of $L$, and this leads eventually to characterizations of Hardy spaces associated to $L$, via atomic decomposition or the nontangential maximal functions. The proofs are based on a modification of technique due to A. Calderón \cite{C}.

Demonstration of nonlinear-energy-spread compensation in relativistic electron bunches with corrugated structures

High quality electron beams with flat distributions in both energy and current are critical for many accelerator-based scientific facilities such as free-electron lasers and MeV ultrafast electron diffraction and microscopes. In this Letter we report on using corrugated structures to compensate for the beam nonlinear energy chirp imprinted by the curvature of the radio-frequency field, leading to a significant reduction in beam energy spread. By using a pair of corrugated structures with orthogonal orientations, we show that the quadrupole wake fields which otherwise increase beam emittance can be effectively canceled. This work also extends the applications of corrugated structures to the low beam charge (a few pC) and low beam energy (a few MeV) regime and may have a strong impact in many accelerator-based facilities.

End-point estimates for singular integrals with non-smooth kernels on product spaces

The main aim of this article is to establish boundedness of singular integrals with non-smooth kernels on product spaces. Let $L_1$ and $L_2$ be non-negative self-adjoint operators on $L^2(\mathbb{R}^{n_1})$ and $L^2(\mathbb{R}^{n_2})$, respectively, whose heat kernels satisfy Gaussian upper bounds. First, we obtain an atomic decomposition for functions in $H^1_{L_1,L_2}(\mathbb{R}^{n_1}\times\mathbb{R}^{n_2})$ where the Hardy space $H^1_{L_1,L_2}(\mathbb{R}^{n_1}\times\mathbb{R}^{n_2})$ associated with $L_1$ and $L_2$ is defined by square function norms, then prove an interpolation property for this space. Next, we establish sufficient conditions for certain singular integral operators to be bounded on the Hardy space $H^1_{L_1,L_2}(\mathbb{R}^{n_1}\times\mathbb{R}^{n_2})$ when the associated kernels of these singular integrals only satisfy regularity conditions significantly weaker than those of the standard Calderón--Zygmund kernels. As applications, we obtain endpoint estimates of the double Riesz transforms associated to Schrdingier operators and a Marcinkiewicz-type spectral multiplier theorem for non-negative self-adjoint operators on product spaces.

Marcinkiewicz-type spectral multipliers on Hardy and Lebesgue spaces on product spaces of homogeneous type

Let $X_1$ and $X_2$ be metric spaces equipped with doubling measures and let $L_1$ and $L_2$ be nonnegative self-adjoint second-order operators acting on $L^2(X_1)$ and $L^2(X_2)$ respectively. We study multivariable spectral multipliers $F(L_1, L_2)$ acting on the Cartesian product of $X_1$ and $X_2$. Under the assumptions of the finite propagation speed property and Plancherel or Stein--Tomas restriction type estimates on the operators $L_1$ and~$L_2$, we show that if a function~$F$ satisfies a Marcinkiewicz-type differential condition then the spectral multiplier operator $F(L_1, L_2)$ is bounded from appropriate Hardy spaces to Lebesgue spaces on the product space $X_1\times X_2$. We apply our results to the analysis of second-order elliptic operators in the product setting, specifically Riesz-transform-like operators and double Bochner--Riesz means.

Product Hardy spaces associated to operators with heat kernel bounds on spaces of homogeneous type

The aim of this article is to develop the theory of product Hardy spaces associated with operators which possess the weak assumption of Davies--Gaffney heat kernel estimates, in the setting of spaces of homogeneous type. We also establish a Calderón--Zygmund decomposition on product spaces, which is of independent interest, and use it to study the interpolation of these product Hardy spaces. We then show that under the assumption of generalized Gaussian estimates, the product Hardy spaces coincide with the Lebesgue spaces, for an appropriate range of~$p$.

Spectral multipliers, Bochner-Riesz means and uniform Sobolev inequalities for elliptic operators

This paper comprises two parts. In the first, we study $L^p$ to $L^q$ bounds for spectral multipliers and Bochner-Riesz means with negative index in the general setting of abstract self-adjoint operators. In the second we obtain the uniform Sobolev estimates for constant coefficients higher order elliptic operators $P(D)-z$ and all $z\in {\mathbb C}\backslash [0, \infty)$, which give an extension of the second order results of Kenig-Ruiz-Sogge \cite{KRS}. Next we use perturbation techniques to prove the uniform Sobolev estimates for Schrödinger operators $P(D)+V$ with small integrable potentials $V$. Finally we deduce spectral multiplier estimates for all these operators, including sharp Bochner-Riesz summability results.

On characterization of Poisson integrals of Schrodinger operators with BMO traces

Let L be a Schrodinger operator of the form L=-Δ+V acting on L^2(Rn) where the nonnegative potential V belongs to the reverse Holder class Bq for some q>= n. Let BMO_L(Rn) denote the BMO space on Rn associated to the Schrodinger operator L. In this article we will show that a function f in BMO_L(Rn) is the trace of the solution of L'u=-u_tt+Lu=0, u(x,0)= f(x), where u satisfies a Carleson condition. Conversely, this Carleson condition characterizes all the L-harmonic functions whose traces belong to the space BMO_L(Rn). This result extends the analogous characterization founded by Fabes, Johnson and Neri for the classical BMO space of John and Nirenberg.

Restriction estimates, sharp spectral multipliers and endpoint estimates for Bochner-Riesz means

We consider abstract non-negative self-adjoint operators on $L^2(X)$ which satisfy the finite speed propagation property for the corresponding wave equation. For such operators we introduce a restriction type condition which in the case of the standard Laplace operator is equivalent to $(p,2)$ restriction estimate of Stein and Tomas. Next we show that in the considered abstract setting our restriction type condition implies sharp spectral multipliers and endpoint estimates for the Bochner-Riesz summability. We also observe that this restriction estimate holds for operators satisfying dispersive or Strichartz estimates. We obtain new spectral multiplier results for several second order differential operators and recover some known results. Our examples include Schrödinger operators with inverse square potentials on $\RR^n$, the harmonic oscillator, elliptic operators on compact manifolds and Schrödinger operators on asymptotically conic manifolds.

Sharp spectral multipliers for operators satisfying generalized Gaussian estimates

Let $L$ be a non-negative self adjoint operator acting on $L^2(X)$ where $X$ is a space of homogeneous type. Assume that $L$ generates a holomorphic semigroup $e^{-tL}$ whose kernels $p_t(x,y)$ satisfy generalized $m$-th order Gaussian estimates. In this article, we study singular and dyadically supported spectral multipliers for abstract self-adjoint operators. We show that in this setting sharp spectral multiplier results follow from Plancherel or Stein-Tomas type estimates. These results are applicable to spectral multipliers for large classes of operators including $m$-th order elliptic differential operators with constant coefficients, biharmonic operators with rough potentials and Laplace type operators acting on fractals.

Weighted $L^p$ estimates for the area integral associated to self-adjoint operators

This article is concerned with some weighted norm inequalities for the so-called horizontal (i.e. involving time derivatives) area integrals associated to a non-negative self-adjoint operator satisfying a pointwise Gaussian estimate for its heat kernel, as well as the corresponding vertical (i.e. involving space derivatives) area integrals associated to a non-negative self-adjoint operator satisfying in addition a pointwise upper bounds for the gradient of the heat kernel. As applications, we obtain sharp estimates for the operator norm of the area integrals on $L^p(\RN)$ as $p$ becomes large, and the growth of the $A_p$ constant on estimates of the area integrals on the weighted $L^p$ spaces.

Gradient Estimate on the Neumann Semigroup and Applications

We prove the following sharp upper bound for the gradient of the Neumann semigroup $P_t$ on a $d$-dimensional compact domain $\OO$ with boundary either $C^2$-smooth or convex: $$\|\nn P_t\|_{1\to \infty}\le \ff{c}{t^{(d+1)/2}},\ \ t>0,$$ where $c>0$ is a constant depending on the domain and $\|\cdot\|_{1\to\infty}$ is the operator norm from $L^1(\OO)$ to $L^\infty(\OO)$. This estimate implies a Gaussian type point-wise upper bound for the gradient of the Neumann heat kernel, which is applied to the study of the Hardy spaces, Riesz transforms, and regularity of solutions to the inhomogeneous Neumann problem on compact convex domains.

Weighted norm inequalities, Gaussian bounds and sharp spectral multipliers

Let $L$ be a non-negative self adjoint operator acting on $L^2(X)$ where $X$ is a space of homogeneous type. Assume that $L$ generates a holomorphic semigroup $e^{-tL}$ whose kernels $p_t(x,y)$ have Gaussian upper bounds but possess no regularity in variables $x$ and $y$. In this article, we study weighted $L^p$-norm inequalities for spectral multipliers of $L$. We show sharp weighted Hörmander-type spectral multiplier theorems follow from Gaussian heat kernel bounds and appropriate $L^2$ estimates of the kernels of the spectral multipliers. These results are applicable to spectral multipliers for large classes of operators including Laplace operators acting on Lie groups of polynomial growth or irregular non-doubling domains of Euclidean spaces, elliptic operators on compact manifolds and Schrödinger operators with non-negative potentials on complete Riemannian manifolds.
